New Zealand in India ODI Series - 3rd ODI

India v New Zealand

India won by 9 wickets (with 63 balls remaining)

All set for the start. Zaheer has the ball

Look out for the XIs above.

8.33am Gambhir has won the toss and decided to bowl. "We've got three quality fast bowlers who can exploit the conditions", he says. Zaheer Khan comes in for Sreesanth, and Ravindra Jadeja comes in for Suresh Raina. Brendon McCullum comes back. James Franklin replaces Tim Southee. Bazza replaces Jamie How, who's fallen ill. He won't keep wickets, Bazza, he doesn't want to strain his back any further.

8.26am Mohinder Amarnath says a minimum of 270, and ideally a score of over 300, would be needed on this pitch, where scores have been difficult to defend. Here's the preview for this game by Sriram Veera, who makes a special mention for Yusuf Pathan, the home boy.

8.20am Hello and welcome to our coverage of the third ODI of this series between India and New Zealand. Vadodara is the venue and it's a bright, sunny day, refreshing for someone who's been watching the dampener in Pallekele for quite some time. India are 2-0 up, and will look to seal the series here. Toss in about ten minutes, so stay put.

2.4

Khan to Williamson, no run, big appeal for lbw, looked out on first sight, swinging in, he's across the line and tries to play it into the leg side, struck on the pads and that was plumb, would have gone on to hit middle and leg, umpire Tarapore doesn't think so, Zaheer should have had him there, the bat hitting the pad might have led the umpire to think there was an inside edge

2.6

Khan to Guptill, no run, short of a good length on the off, knocks it down in front of point

Taylor didn't look in the best form, but was trying determinedly to occupy the crease. That determination went for a toss when he played that shot.

10.6

Khan to Styris, no run, big appeal for lbw, did it pitch outside leg? That's probably the reason why it was not given, struck the batsman in line with middle and off as he moved across to drive it through the leg side, struck in line but could have pitched outside leg, lets look at the replays in a bit. It didn't pitch outside leg at all, in fact it pitched on leg and struck him in front of middle. Was there an inside edge? Didn't look like it. Tarapore suggested it pitched outside leg, but it didn't. Styris is lucky

Vishnu: "@Shardul; Let's not also forget about Yuvraj Singh who have done an amazing job in the ongoing series with his Slow Left arm. So I don't think there was a need for Ravindra Jadeja. They could have tried Saurabh Tiwary. Saurabh is a left hander. Yusuf is a right hander. both are hard hitters. they would have made a handy pair down the order in the slog overs."

New Zealand have recovered well after losing seven wickets with not much on the board. Franklin, called in for Southee, made his mark, and was supported well by Nathan McCullum followed by Kyle Mills at the death. This is still a below-par total, though, and one India will back themselves to chase. Though, one wonders if they should have attacked more by bringing the seamers on a little earlier rather than persisting with Yusuf and Jadeja. Nevertheless, they are left with 225 to chase so join us in about 30 minutes for the reply. See you then. Sid Monga's bulletin will be ready soon, so make sure to read it.

End of over 50 (11 runs) New Zealand 224/9
     A Nehra    8-1-38-0
JEC Franklin    72* (108b 5x4 1x6)      Z Khan    8-2-31-2
