Raza Hasan, the Pakistan left-arm spinner, injured his disc in his spine and has been ruled out of the limited-overs tour of India. He suffered the injury while bowling against Quetta Bears in a Faysal Bank Twenty20 Cup game at Lahore City Cricket Association Ground on Sunday.

Hasan, 20, made his international debut in September this year against Australia. He's played seven T20 internationals, picking up six wickets at 25.66. According to the preliminary report, he damaged his spine and has been advised rest for six to eight weeks.

Pakistan are due to tour India later this month to play three ODIs and two T20Is. The selectors will be monitoring the ongoing Twenty20 tournament in Pakistan; with Hasan out, left-arm spinner Zulfiqar Babar, who is 34 and eager for a chance to play for Pakistan, could have an opening.

Asad Shafiq, the Pakistan middle-order batsman, has sustained a finger injury and is doubtful for the India series. He injured himself while playing for Karachi Dolphins against Bahawalpur Stags at the Bagh-e-Jinnah in Lahore.

Iqbal Qasim's selection committee is set to announce the ODI and T20 squads for the India series this weekend. Should Shafiq be ruled out, selectors could consider a likely replacement in Harris Sohail, 23, a left-hand batsman who plays for ZTBL. He recently finished as second-highest run-getter in the President's Trophy, the first-class tournament, scoring 673 in five matches at 134.60. He has an average of 72.83 in T20 cricket with a strike-rate of 105.55.

The selectors could also be leaning towards experience for the India tour. Umar Gul and Younis Khan, who were dropped from the ODI squad, are likely to return. It won't be surprising if Shahid Afridi is left out, on account of his form. Imran Nazir hasn't been very productive, either, scoring 176 runs in his previous nine T20I innings.

The bowling line-up may undergo change, as the focus may shift from spin to strengthening the pace department. Pakistan have been relying largely on Saeed Ajmal, but Misbah-ul-Haq and Mohammad Hafeez, Pakistan's captains for ODIs and T20s respectively, have hinted at a change of tactics while playing in India.

Allrounder Abdul Razzaq, who had criticised his captain Mohammad Hafeez for not taking him in the XI during the World Twenty20, is still in contention. He smashed 14 off 3 balls on Friday night for Lahore Lions, pulling off an unlikely victory for this team. He was deemed not fully fit but made a strong statement with that cameo.

I don't think they shoud think of changing the. The spin Attack to. Fast bowling.. Cause they don't have one. Lol

Umar Amin must be given a chance. And instead of giving a 34 year old who will be of no benefit in 4 years a chance, give a young bowler a chance. If you want pace give a chance to left arm seamer Sadaf Hussain or give a chance to allrounder Ehsan Adil. We need youngsters not those past their prime. We as a cricketing nation need to start planning for the future NOW. IF only they would let me be selector :D

Nasir Jamshid, Hafiz, Younis Khan, Misbah, Umar Akmal, Haris sohail, Kamran Akmal, Afridi, Gul, Ihsan Adil, Saeed Ajmal... Abdul Razaq, Zulfiqar Baber, Imran Farhat, Azhar Ali, Junaid Khan

Ihsan Adil should be selected. We have earlier selected players after only a few first class matches. Waqar is one example of it. Ihsan has performed exceptionally in presidents trophy and faisal cup. Another prospect is Haris Sohail. Zulfiqar Baber is way better than Abdul Rehman. USMAN SALLAHUDIn is performing for 3 seasons now. Him and Naved Yasin also needs to be rewarded. WE CAN'T GO ON WITH THOSE WHO ONLY SCORE IN 30s AND 40s.

Ehsan Aadil & Haris Sohail deserve to be in team. just check Ehsan Aadil figures in President trophy and in 20 Over cup. in president cup Ehsan got 53 wicket in 9 games at an average of17.00 with 3 times 5 wickets haul in inngsand 6 times above 4 wickets in an innings in 20 over he got 10 wiskets in 4 games at an average of 10.90 Also he played very well in last under 19 world cup in Australia this year.

Harris sohail really deserve. he always proved that he is a good middle order batsman who can score quick and can retain the wicket with his passion.

so my tem for India is M Hafeez, Nasir J, Ahmad Shahzad, Harris Sohail, Umar Akmal, Sohaib Malik, Younis K, K Akmal, A Razzaq, Hammad Azam,Shahid Afridi, Umar Gull, Junaid K, Ehsan Aadil, Saeed Ajmal,Zulfiqar Babar. Reserves. Sohail Tanveer, Babar Azam, Uzair ul Haq, Nayyar Abass, M Rizwan

Its a chance for Haris Sohail to get into national side. Ehsan Aadil is another guy to look forward. Its real shame that pakistan is having no international cricket at home and these guys are not getting any chances. I hope yousaf gets back to test side. Ahmad shahzad deserves a chance in T20'S along with anwar ali.

Interesting comments by readers but unfortunately all of them are selecting teams according to their personal likes and dislikes without taking into consideration the recent form and performances. Nobody has mentioned the name of Ehsan Adil, the Pakistan U19 fast bowler, who was the best fast bowler of the President's Trophy. Zulfiqar Baber was the best spinner and there is no harm if a 30+ player is selected on sheer merit. Aizaz Cheema, Ahmad Shehzad and Imran Farhat have performed well in both forms of cricket and should be selected on recent form. Two other youngsters who performed exceedingly well are Haris Sohail and Ali Waqas. These two were the best batsmen of President's Trophy. It is a pity that merit is always ignored in Pakistan and it is a big reason of our downward trend in all spheres of life. Gul and Afridi were very very mediocre and should be dropped. They think that their big names are enough for their selection. I hope Iqbql Qasim and Co. select teams on merit.

I totally agree with Zubair, each player should prove his worth and seniority should not play any role in it. Enough of these so called senior (malilk, Gul, Kamran, Abdul Razzaq) failure and give chance to younger talent who are more hungry then these old timers. But I am sure it is PCB, Let's not except any right and honest move from these group of corrupt individuals.............I would say it will again a biggest gambling event in India where money would play a huge rule in it. Let's not forget the biggest thief in the world is running the show from background.

haris sohail deserve a chance in playing 11. I saw him bating in Champion league. he is technically sound batsman. and he deserve a chance bcoz of his recent performance in domestic session.

What's up with the fitness level of these feeble players from sub-continent? These players must need to go through tough conditioning training before stepping on the cricket ground! Ciao...

y its dont make sense to include a 34 years guy in the team..he can still play few years more. who have been performing well since last few years but couldnt make into the team bcz of Ajmal and Rehman..he have been consistently performing in domestic and just waiting for a chance which should be given..

Great news!!

Pak selectors should select Haris Sohail or Naved Yasin as the replacement for Shafiq and Nayyer Abbas must be given a chance because he is young and a much better spinner than Raza Hassan.

Rassaq should be considered for both ODIs & T20s. He is the best finisher as far as Pakistan is concerned.

Hello Iqbal Qasim, please include Muhammad Yousuf for one internationals.. we respect our players who contributed to the country and we respect Muhammad Yousuf for whatever he has done this country.... Please have him included in one days against India and he will contribute to our victories.. i am longing to see him play for Pakistan and many others I am sure.. I personal friend of Afridi but i feel he needs a break and should stay out of team...... Thank you Selectors.. hope you do the right selection. Yousuf deserves some respect to be Pakistani and the key player for us for so many years......please pick him for India one day team.... we Pakistanis respectexperience like any other country does it, Australia or India etc. Thank you Malik - Australia

I am against inducting a 34 year old into International Cricket, no matter how good his least season in the domestic cricket matches has been. It just doesn't make sense.

I have a strong believe to make a complete overhaul in Team Pakistan. Each player should buy his place in the team instead of taken for granted. Irrespective senior or juniors, whoever perform good should earn the place. Its a one time hard decision but it have a deep impact in our future. Pakistan is a nation where almost every child played this game at least once in his life. So we don't need to bother about shortage of talent. Do best as much as you can. GO MAN IN GREEN GO.

At least make it a point to give Babar Azam or Usman Salahuddin the chance to play since Shafiq is injured. Good luck Pakistan from a Sri Lankan who adores you all from the bottom of my heart. I hope Sri Lanka tours Pakistan this time next year as per the ICC FTP.
