Shahid Afridi, the Pakistan allrounder, could be considered for the ODI squad for the tour of India, days after he was dropped from the same, according to ODI captain Misbah-ul-Haq. Afridi looked in good form during the ongoing practice matches at the conditioning training camp ahead of the India tour, scoring two back-to-back half-centuries to press his case for a recall. He was, however, named in the Twenty20 squad.

"If his form remains like this and we need him, we will definitely consider him," Misbah said at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. "The form of senior players, who are experienced enough, is very important. They are seniors, whenever you give performances like this it will be good for Pakistan."

Afridi had a poor World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka, where he scored 30 runs in six matches at an average of six and claimed four wickets at 42.74. In his last 12 international innings across all formats, he averages 6.30 with the bat. He failed to make an impact in the recently concluded national Twenty20 competition and looked rusty.

However, during the one-day practice matches, he scored 52 off 40 balls on Monday and clubbed another impressive 92 off 64 balls on Wednesday. He looked composed and controlled with the bat, cutting, sweeping and executing with a straight bat rather than slogging wildly. A lofty six over the bowler's head into the dressing room was perhaps the biggest hit in the last three days. But if he is to cement his place in the side as an allrounder his bowling needs to improve. At the moment, though, his power hitting is a positive for Pakistan.

Misbah said Inzamam-ul-Haq, Pakistan's batting consultant, has given the batsmen tips on how to tackle pressure while playing against India. "Inzamam has been very useful in helping us prepare both psychologically and mentally - what type of hurdles we are going to face, how to get out of it, how as a batsman you should carry yourself," Misbah said. "No doubt in India-Pakistan cricket you have to play aggressive cricket and we will try to apply it over there."

Misbah was wary of India despite their defeat in the Test series against England at home. "There is no point underestimating them. We will have to play hard cricket. Every bowler has a role to play. Against India you need a balanced attack," Misbah said, stopping short of naming Saeed Ajmal as their key bowler. "You can't depend on any one, otherwise you will be under a lot of pressure. India has depth in their batting line-up and you can't catch them with any one bowler."

Hope for the best and be prepared for the WORST(only for pakistanis)

it is easy to get carried away with afridi performance, as we all know when he performs he really leaves big impact, the reason he was dropped was due to his inconsistancy and lets hang on to it for a while get harris sohail umar akmal and anwar ali chance and lets build a team arround them, just like WI did and not they are world t20 chanpions, afridi needs to learn he cannot just score one or two inngs and misbah wants him in his side, i have a better idea get rid of misbah from ODIs too and play afridi instead :) he is definately better batsman than misbah and bowls too so we get extra bat and bowl misbah must go he is not going to be arround for next wc in aus then y carry the burden when u have better captain and better replacements e.g afridi can contribute till next wc :) but most imp with respect to this series is chance to new commers we do need anwar ali and harris sohaili to play every game to be able to contribute to Pakistan

You PCB and pakistan people have made Afridi is a Joker...He should open the innings in T20 and ODI nothing else!!!...his best would come as opener and he can get you win in every 6th match.....very sort and very acuurate....Long Live Lala...Long live Afridi.....

2 CricFanster->What do you know about Pakistan cricket? In Past Afridi was used be a part time bowler only..Started taking wickets consistently not very long ago.just a few years back.& you expect him to take 5 wickets in each match just to show off his Avg to people like you?He was never considered to be a bowler. He was a batsman but mostly hit & miss type of batsman. But whenever it was his hit day,it used be a nightmare for opponent team.He was off color in recent T20 but his bowling has become so deadly that Pak started relying on him in recent times.

PS->You are telling that he played 65 matches against India & in most of them Afridi was introduced as a batman.Just compare both the halves of those 65 matches. Then you'll know his deadly form.Lol how many matches did both countries play in last 4 years?& how many matches did Afridi play as a batsmen only.Tell me how many of part time bowlers India got who became leading wicket takers? Now dont tell me that Kumble was a part timer :

His test record is better than all others.. i think he should be recalled to test matches.. and i hope Ehsan adil gets a chance in SA series. He is a good find along with Haris Sohail.

all the people talking against afridi n presenting all kinda stats need to know one thing. a match winning player isnt decided on basis of any stats, stats are for geeks. match winners r seen on the field and on the field afridi has proved many times that he is the match changer n match winner kinda player. he is out of form n throwing a guy of huge impact just bcoz of a bad form cant go in favour of a team.from jayasuriya to kallis u have seen everyone going out of form but then bouncing back big time. so give this guy a break. its ur fault if u put pressure on a bowling alrounder to hit sixes n fifties and hundreds all the time. its not his fault that for a long time u didnt have many other match winning players n u all hoped everything from him. guy deserves to b backed by fans and pcb to get in form again bcoz he is definitely one of the best

Posted by CricFanster on (December 21, 2012, 19:59 GMT)

Look at the Stats for Afridi against India then run your mouth MATES

Matches = 65 , Runs = 1468 , HS = 109 , Bat Avg = 24.88 , Wickets = 38 , BB = 4/20 , Bowl Avg = 58.21

While his Batting Avg is Pathetic in overall career which is 23.4 but look at his Bowling Avg which is 33.69 with 8 five for's .

Do you see the difference of his Leg breaks lol 58.21 compared to 33.69 Mate ?

I agree He's been force for PAK as a all-rounder in the past but His Bowling 's been never a problem for Indian Batsmen and you can see that looking at his Bowling Avg and Wickets column which is 38 wickets in 65 Matches .

Good to see him back. I am from his tribe, I hope he performs as well. What he lacks is self-confidence. His ability and technique are fine. Best of luck to Pakistan. I hope we beat India in India like England just did.

Reflecting, It is teh case that we see ourselves in Shahid Bhai, the fact is that Atleast the man is honest Atleast the man has a never say die attitude There is that maverick, TopgunStyle and John Raamboness in him, and this world is in need of heroes (just like I guess Pakistan is in need of Imran Khan as the PM in the upcoming elections. Hope he wins). Disgruntled with the corrupt, not-fuling trying power centres, we do need idols to stand up to, we see ourselves in them. Same was Shoaib Akhtar Bhai, no one can match him charging down to bowl those heart our yorkers. Guess PCB ne use thoda Laad Payar karna chaia tha. He asid I don't need ki muje God mai bithao, but toda Laad Payar. Guess he had earned it. Involve Shahid Bhai in decision making, make your champs count. Seems some Afgan players too coming up like this. Some of those are gutsy to say the least. The last fighter must be supported. Maybe this year Shahis Bhai can lit up the IPL too in fire ( the PPL too!!). Allah-Hoo

good to see shahid bhai coming back in form we appreciate his hard work for his form if he will continue his hard work then he will regain his form back inshaallah

Such is follwing fr Afridi that even if he fails and fail and fail some quarters stll want him in team not only as a player but even Captain!!!! My suggestion that Afridi like Aleem Dar & Dharamsea should take up job of Umpiring so that his fans see him on the pitch all the times.

Posted by Sakul_Gupta on (December 21, 2012, 5:48 GMT)

Insha Allah, and By the will of all God's ShabZada, Lala Shahid Khan Afridi will be in the squad. I totally agree, he should have listened to some saner minds and never quit the test captiancy. Look what happened, leaving the mantle for the likes of Salman Butt, who so badly disrespected the highest mantle and ruined teh carrers of 2 other brilliant players. (one documentary I saw Ben Grrion came back from teh farm lands to take PM role to lead) Hence they say, if you have it in you, be at the helm of affairs, be in the place that matters. Be the captian, make a diffference. Shahid bhai has it in him the charisma and leadership skills to take this team to wonders like in the ODI WC. He is an inspiration to millions, 'There's a song, Every little thing you do becomes magic'. So yes he should be in and be leading the side. Great to see him do justice to his talent by those 94. Wish it was a 100. Become a man, take it to the limit, one sane stem away is a 100 from 94. Lead us by doing it.

Posted by   on (December 20, 2012, 22:44 GMT)

As usual an extremely unsure statement by Misbah! That's the reason Pakistanis are always confused & never fully prepared! Afridi's has lost his form in recent times, Pcb should give him a break instead of putting more pressure of expectations on him!

Posted by PaklionYousuf on (December 20, 2012, 21:51 GMT)

Ashley Giles about MOHAMMAD YOUSUFs century on May 11, 2011: "the best I've seen in difficult conditions." He scored 109 of 181 and again 68 of 73 against Worcestershire at Birmingham, on a pitch so difficult to score on, that Warwickshire got a 8 points penalty for it. A Afridi is never close to the class that MOHAMMAD YOUSUF has. Nor does anybody in the whole limited overs line ups. In tests only Azhar Ali, the most discussed test player in the Pakistani test line up comes near to Mohammad Yousufs class. But not even he can score at rate that Yousf used to to score. Yousuf has 79 fifty+ scores in ODIs compared to the whole current 15 member squads 93, including M Hafeez (18), MISBAH-ul-Haq (20) of course all of them are 50s), KAMRAN A (14) IN 122 INNINGS, Umar AKMAL (17) most of them coming under costly circumstances, like scoring slowly during power plays), I Farhat (13), N Jamshed (7), Azhar Ali (4). (Not included test pro Younis). Nobody a match to him. Zaka Ashraf? Reason?

Posted by   on (December 20, 2012, 19:43 GMT)

Misbah should not be part of that ODI squad... No need to comment on Afridi, he is still more useful than Misbah atleast...

Posted by Solid_Snake on (December 20, 2012, 18:52 GMT)

@abhinav sachdeva->Do you remember that blazing fast century of afridi against India..102 off 45 balls???I am sure that match still haunts you :P So dont just underestimate this guy.He is capable of beating up Indian bowlers once again..He might be a flop show against any other team. But when it comes to India,he plays like crazy

Posted by Solid_Snake on (December 20, 2012, 18:47 GMT)

@ irfan-omer ->Indian bowlers are below club level..So as our batsmen..So this makes us equal :P But recently iv'e witnessed that Indian batsmen are overcoming Pak bowlers..Like what happened in ODI WC,Asia Cup,then T20 WC match..So whenever there is India & Pak playing together,All try to give their best..

PS->G.narsimha->For the first time i agree what you just said :)

Come on man - let the man go - let him find more form in more practice matches

Posted by ahabib on (December 20, 2012, 17:29 GMT)

Afridi should retire. The problem is not his form. This is how he has always played. His fans like to suggest that he is a matchwinner. The problem is that the matchwinning performance is extremely rare. The rest of the time he is a useless burden on the team. I am suprised by Misbah's comment. I thought he had some sense. If Afridi is selected for the Indian tour-- if the past is any indicator of the future-- he will only embarass himself and waste a spot on the team.

Posted by cyberstudent on (December 20, 2012, 17:04 GMT)

This is just Ridiculous, changing selection on practice matches result? Drop him for couple of series and let him prove himself in domestic circuit, give chance to new blood, we have seen enough of his failures, avg of under

His place was only as a spinner, which he lost to Saeej Ajmal and Hafeez , so sorry Afridi.

let him earn his place, don't beg it for him.

Posted by Nisargorsi on (December 20, 2012, 15:58 GMT)

Well Afridi did a big mistake when he left out the captancy in England after loosing the ist test match against Australia even he announced the retirement and that was a big surprise for all of us if he continuely played the test matches today he could be a better batsman i guess he could improve himself alot as a batsman but he always didi those things who just appeared very surprised for the people even go and hit the ist ball out of the ground still the same attitude even after playing more than twelve years for PAkistan quiet ashamed for us and i am realy surprised who compare MIsbah Ul HAq and Afridi they r both having too much differences as a player as a captan as a captan i already gave u an example how gud captan Afridi is after loosing the ist test against aus he left out captancy even there were few matches left and that was only the ist test match of the series other hand MIsbah Ul HAq is a cool temper always tried to adopt the condition and play as a mature player..

Posted by   on (December 20, 2012, 15:38 GMT)

@ Abhinav Sachdeva

Afridi scored 90 off 64 balls against the bowling attack of Gul, Wahab Riaz, Junaid Khan, Saeed Ajmal, Hafeez and Zulfiqar Babar. This is not not just a world class bowling attack, its more lethal than any Indian bowling attack ever. You're right, the entire Indian team will score a 100 each in such a practice match, but that's because the poor quality bowlers you have. I didn't see them getting 100s against England.

Posted by LahoriLion009 on (December 20, 2012, 13:24 GMT)

I dont know why you guys are comparing Misbah with Afridi. Afridi is far better than misbah who is only good at longer version of game. Afridi has won matches for pakistan while misbah only achieved losses (except tests). Afridi should play ODI against india.

Posted by   on (December 20, 2012, 13:07 GMT)

There are same issue between BCCI & PCB some players are very special In India Sachin, In Pak. Misbah, Both are not doing very well for self as well as there team

Posted by   on (December 20, 2012, 13:05 GMT)

No point .. Afridi shdnt be recalled. Let him work harder for his ODI place.

Posted by jaffar678 on (December 20, 2012, 12:47 GMT)

ahh!!come on Pcb please ditch the players like afridi, misbah, these are just useless players...i hope and pray that pak do win the odi series but it seems difficult with misbah, younis, afridi, gul in the team....these old guys are blocking the way of some very talented young players!!AHH these non perfomers!

IRFAAN OMER PAK too dont have class bowlers like u r yesteryeargreats =AKRAM&CO spinners are winning matches thattoo in uae only cant win even in sl , present day pacers in pak team cant be seen as world beaters, how ever its u r team u can think of u r players as l u ike but insulting INDIAN PLAYERS BY SAYING BELOW CLUB LEVEL is not apriciated, yaa we lost to ENG , that too after 3 decades , u can celebrat it but its better to concentrat on u r team instead of reminding us of our loses..

Posted by khurramsch on (December 20, 2012, 10:44 GMT)

well yes if he performs well in t20s then why not BUT not on basis of these practice matches and not for name & politics. Problem for pak is that selcetion doesnt include any Medium pace batting allrounder. If there was no razak , hammad should be in or any 1 else who can be 3rd seamer. modren games can not be played with out 1 medium oace allrounder. india plays spin well we have seen it in asia cup & t20. no point packing in with spinners. & 6th bowler needs to be in as a batting allounder

Posted by irfan-omer on (December 20, 2012, 10:17 GMT)

@ mr abhinav sachdeva . afridi is all time fav for pakistan cricket fans. and if he give some good performance in practice match against club level bowlers so its a good sign for pak team as indian bowlers now a days even below club level . as u can imagine how our club are who are producing legends like waseem akram , shoib akhtar , waqar younus , mohammed asif , mohammed amir etc etc . sorry to say but its truth india dont have any class fast bowler like old days of srinath , prasad etc .

Posted by WickyRoy.paklover on (December 20, 2012, 10:16 GMT)

We need new, young batsmen to be given gud run of matches 4rm now on.playrs like afridi should only b allowed to play in t20s.WE HAV A FAIRLY GUD young talent in the form of shahzad, nasir, haris, babar, usman salahuddin 4 odis n asad, azhar 4 tests, its about time that pcb should look to build an odi team based on above mentioned young starts.

Posted by   on (December 20, 2012, 10:10 GMT)

@Abhinav Sachdeva...it is what Captain thinking about him..he wasn't agree with the decision of exclusion of afridi from ODI's ..he is indeed a asset for Pakistani team...and for your practice match thing...he needs little motivation thats it..

we'll see what your team gonna do ..after humiliating by english team

Posted by UK_Chap on (December 20, 2012, 10:01 GMT)

Well now that gnanzcupid has spoken we should all pack up our bags and go home. Coming back to reality, never mind the Indians, the cowboys at the PCB in their wisdom are including Afridi and Misbah, I have only one question... WHY ?. Misbah is a brilliant test match player but equally awful limited overs player, Afridi is a spent force, it is time to ditch him. Please bring in other youthful players and look forward not backwards.

Posted by Solid_Snake on (December 20, 2012, 9:55 GMT)

@Shehzad Ahmed->So imran Nazir is better than Ahmad Shehzad? You kidding me?Look at the recent performances of both players.Sure Ahmed Shehzad has got some attitude problem.Other than that his performance was top class.Look how he played in BPL then recent Faysal Bank T20 Championship. What has Imran Nazir Done lately?Smashing Bangladesh only cannot help you make your way into the team. His performance was really poor recently

Posted by   on (December 20, 2012, 9:48 GMT)

I think Inzi will perform better thn Misbah!!in what basis he is in team!politicszz!!!first 5/6batsman should b nasir, hafiz, safiq, azhar, yunus, umar for oneday.even test MdYusuf would do btr perfrmance if he gets proper chances.

my all brothers afrid should play like .pointing, simind, lara, gili, dohni, other players having strick rate about 80+

Posted by   on (December 20, 2012, 9:21 GMT)

we should care and respect our national here like afridi but now i think its all end of afridi , misbha and razzaq players. its time that these player should be become examples like Pointing and Andrew strus as wel.

Posted by likeintcricket on (December 20, 2012, 9:18 GMT)

It seems that Afridi s struggling a lot in his batting and dur to this his bowling is suffering from that. Pak can keep trying him as a bowler and don't consider him an allrounder. Once he gets his confidence back he can still be good in ODIs and T20s. But no question he is at his career's twilight and should retire next year with respect rather than finally kicked out eventually. He is a Pak Hero and should deserve a better ending.

Posted by   on (December 20, 2012, 9:17 GMT)

Imran Nazir had way too many chances. He is done. The problem is dearth of batting talent in Pakistan and that is why Afridi will com back,he is score for a 50 of 40 balls and on the back of that will be allowed to play for another year.Really pathetic!!!!!!!!! Our Batsmen must look at Indians and Cook,to learn how to apply themselves, how to form an innings and manage a innings. Hafeez who made a comeback due to improved form few yrs ago,has lost his form with the bat and has a miserable 2012. If you are not able to lead by example then you shouldnt captain the side, dont set a bad example.Hafeez has to stop looking up to Afridi and be his own man. If he cant then we should look another captain,Azhar Ali will be a good choice.

Posted by captainpermod on (December 20, 2012, 9:17 GMT)

You Beauty, Shahid Afridi. Good to know that you have performed well after so long. You must have known by now that while playing in Green it is impossible to do well. While playing in Blue, you still have charm of past days. Come On Man, you have future in Blue coloured playing kit such as India, Sri Lanka, England). I still remember the days when you along with Saeed Anwar were responsible of giving headache to our Indian Bowlers but I hope so that these days have really passed. Looking forward to competitive cricket ahead in India.

Posted by HumzaRafaqat on (December 20, 2012, 9:14 GMT)

I think so afridi should be dropped ,as well as imran, along with ahmed shehzad as all dont perfom in complete last year,What the PCB doing not produce even one best batsman in last decade, although we have a great talent,But PCB reponsible of that, totlay politics and ignore talented new generation crickters.

Posted by aslamPK on (December 20, 2012, 9:13 GMT)

Afridi and Imran Nazir are part of the past. Pakistan must think of future. Afridi may only be considered for T20's only for one year. No more.

Posted by   on (December 20, 2012, 9:02 GMT)

What kind of a practice match was this! How quickly do Pakistani fans get excited by the scores of practice matches!

I can send the whole Indian team to play practice matches and all of them will get 100s,doesn't mean they are all back in form. Haha!

We'll see what Afridi does. People in Pakistan are crazy!

Even if Afridi scores quickfire 50 against school boys, they'll say "he's in form".

Posted by   on (December 20, 2012, 8:56 GMT)

there is not a single allrounder in Pak's ODI side except Hafeez and we do need him to balance the side!

Posted by   on (December 20, 2012, 8:27 GMT)

that is totally unfair to drop imran nazir from one day and t20. imran is better player as compare to some other players like ahmed shehzad and umer ameen.

Posted by sramesh_74 on (December 20, 2012, 8:21 GMT)

Afridi as a batsman is history. He no longer has the temperament to make an impact with his bat. His bowling is still decent. But can he make the starting 11 as a bowler??

Serioulsy I cannot see any difference between Pakistan's polictics and cricket. Who is Misbah to say that in the first place, this comment is a direct breach of his contract with PCB. The selection committee kept Afridi out and Misbah is pressing hard to get him back, why ? on what basis ? Doesn't anybody see a player is under-performing for a good year or so, what's the justification of keeping him in the team. Can Misbah explain what's the motive behind this ? When would this favoratism end ? What about the deserving people waiting in the ranks, what about Afridi's claims that he would quit when he thinks he's burden on the team and that he would sit and think about whether to continue or not ? Do we have anybody honoring their words here ? It's hurting Pakistan cricket more than anyhting else.

YEs Afridi should be recalled in odis as being coached under inzamam,,he is the one in pakistan who can help afridi to play good knocks

Posted by ColJJ on (December 20, 2012, 7:06 GMT)

Afridi is the best player and of course a match winner. Bad patches are part of game and life, so we must support the one like afridi under such circumstances.

Posted by   on (December 20, 2012, 7:00 GMT)

He always look good in practice when comes to International Matches he cant even cross the ball till circle

Posted by   on (December 20, 2012, 6:54 GMT)

Afridi should be picked for ODIs also. he brings plenty of FEAR for india. and Pakistan need a player like afridi in their team which has Hafeez, Younis and Misbah. Pakistan will need hitters to keep the balance.

Posted by   on (December 20, 2012, 6:31 GMT)

Hassan Rafique Mir can you name one player who is a consistent match winner in out team. Consistent in Pakistan team are those player who play there own game irrelevant of what the situation dictates if we win we win if not no one supported them.

Same can me said of Afridi off late but he was one player who didnot play for his own statistics.

Posted by   on (December 20, 2012, 6:06 GMT)

The problem with Afridi is that he will preform here but fail there... that has been the case for last couple of years... whenever it comes to domestic games, he start scoring and whenever he play against the likes of India, Australia, Sri Lanka, England, SA suddenly his form disappears...

Posted by wakaPAK on (December 20, 2012, 6:04 GMT)

If you look at stas in case of Afridi, he may not be a good player but he won 29 MoM awards in ODIs, the only pakistani in the top ten ; for complet list check out http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/records/283705.html Afridi is a classic example that limited cricket stats are useless; you can have average stats but you can still be a match winner in so many matches.

go afridi go.....make your day.....let india pay...

Hafeez is concern Pakistan will loose all T20 matches in India. Captain should think about the player how is perform. Due to Hafeez, All rounder GREAT Abdul Razzaq not in the team., Pakistan will loose all matches in India.

Posted by fastrack10 on (December 20, 2012, 5:47 GMT)

afridi was always a over rated player & that can be seen in his record. a man who has been playing @ the top level with so much of hype for soo long has such bad avrg. (ODI avrg-23.34, T20-16.95) simply not good enough. he has been playing for so long just because he is in pakistan, with his kind of record he would have been chucked out long before in other country..the pakistani fan will know better how many times he has brought about the dowfall of the team when a little bit of sensible batting wud have won the match..for example 2007 T20 WC against India, & also the ODI WC semi-final & many many more such occations..just one of 37ball 100 shud not be enough to be in the team.pakistan has such good raw talent im sure there must be many desearving a place in the team,me as a indian fan wud love to see him in the oposition team.

Posted by   on (December 20, 2012, 5:44 GMT)

Afridi should be selected in the team squad due to his experience, because experience matters against rivals like India.. Muhammad Aamir also should be given the chance to come back in the teamsquad..

Posted by farhaan84 on (December 20, 2012, 5:33 GMT)

waiting to watch a good cricket from both teams, and we should keep calm in any situation of the game, wishing good luck for both teams, i am happy to see both teams in action against each other,, and 1 more thing that i never enjoy cricket from pakistan without afidi,he should be in squad, and like to see yuvraj in form , i dont like yuvraj but as a player i should admit that he is 1 of the best player in the world,

Posted by Meherdeen on (December 20, 2012, 4:55 GMT)

This Guy called Afridi, I want to insist, is not a good cricketer. He will score well in domestic and practice matches but not when it come to the serious game. It is good for the Pak Team if they just keep him out for some time and see. I'm sue the Pak team is better with out Afridi. Pak team needs a good player, not someone who plays good once in 10-12 matches.

Posted by Shazia_Javed on (December 20, 2012, 4:40 GMT)

razzaq was far better all rounder than afridi... he was unlucky and afridi ruined his career by not utilizing him propoerly while being captain... specially in world cup...

Posted by Shazia_Javed on (December 20, 2012, 4:38 GMT)

a man who has not performed for almost two years... and whose batting average is 6.30 in last 12 innings that he played, he is going to be selected based on just two practice matches performances... if this is the criteria then it is p-a-t-h-a-t-i-c... he is less than an average player and never was a captain material. politics at the best. i wonder if someone can explain why he should be given a chance based on his last two years performances... if it is experience, then please bring back wasim, waqar etc and they will perform far better than him. we dont realise that we are going to sacrifice a youngster at the cost of 'name'. he averages 23.34 in 349 ODIs, 16.95 in 56 T20s and bowling is less than average (for someone claiming to be a bowler only). i really not able to understand what afridi has done that no one else has done in cricket.. players like him, will not have a second chance in most international teams. people should realise that he is taking place of a deserving youngste

Afridi-effect against India is a must requirement. great move... Aggressive Afridi is needed to encourage our younger boys... I would say Inzi is doing a great job !!! I am not going to miss this series now for sure...

Posted by mfmfaiq on (December 20, 2012, 4:14 GMT)

Afridi is Icon!! He Should be in the Team.. Just Like Sanath!!

Posted by CricIndia208 on (December 20, 2012, 4:06 GMT)

No matter who plays, it is not possible for Pakistan to beat India. Pakistan have not beaten India in 20 years in world cup matches.

Posted by mtalhas on (December 20, 2012, 3:28 GMT)

Afridi's role and performances are always a mystery. Anyways, this news should be enough to affect the mental state of Indians who are suffering from pressure and humiliation after the so called revenge series. It is good time for Pakistan to regain their dominance over India which seemed to be lost over the last 10 years. India vs Pakistan is just a game of pressure, something which the Indians were able to do well for a decade while improving their stats and rankings, basically because other teams like WI,PAK,AUS,etc. were going through the worst patches of their history.

Posted by   on (December 20, 2012, 3:16 GMT)

@ Hassan rafique, When did Misbah finshed the game. Isn't this unfair dat he is captaining the side. U picked Kamran for T20 world cup. Did he played as expected. Did Umar Akmal Played well, What about Shoib Malik. It is unfair to drop Afridi like player from one day squad. We agree he is not in good form. but In Sha Allah Taala he will comeback very well.

Posted by getsetgopk on (December 20, 2012, 3:10 GMT)

haq33: Some good points, over the years Afridi has improved alot both as a bowler and a batsman. In 2009 out shone every one, with ball, bat and in fielding. And since he's been made captain, has consistently delivered. Highest wicket taker of WC 11, man of the series against SL in the UAE series, but since then seems to have lost interest when Hafeez was made captain of T20 side. This man thrives on attention and a very dynamic personality. The moment you take that away, you kill half the player in him. Slogging first ball he faced in recent T20 WC, he didn't do that in 2009 or afterwards. He used to take his time a bit like he did in the 4th match against SL in UAE where he scored 75 runs and took 5 wickets. Ijaz Butts PCB ruined him by shoving him in the limelight and then throwing him away in a very disgusting manner. But lets hope he does it for the country this time and puts his personal feeling aside for now.

afridi is always my favourite but even if he not perform well we should not give entry to the team

Posted by   on (December 20, 2012, 2:53 GMT)

The Most hyped, The most Over-rated, the most useless player. If you do not believe me, Check his record against top teams. Such a waste of a place. Pakistan MUST try new talent instead of an old burden called 'AFRIDI'.

Posted by sam_m on (December 20, 2012, 1:36 GMT)

Nothing new here folks. We knew from the start that PCB never sticks to a decision it makes. That being said, if selected, I'm sure Afridi will single-handedly win a match against India.

Posted by   on (December 20, 2012, 1:34 GMT)

Afridi rock in Pakistan team ,,, he,s v.good bowler $ batsman $ fielder ,, afridi against not compare pakistan other plyer ,,, afridi is one man show of all team ,,, Go afridi best of luck ,,,,,,,,,,

Posted by jimbond on (December 20, 2012, 1:31 GMT)

Afridi may do well in batting as well as bowling in India (Currently India does not have good pacemen or players who can play spin). And given the circus that Pakistan team selection is, I wouldnt be surprised if they find to insert him into the test team as well.

Posted by   on (December 20, 2012, 1:25 GMT)

As an India fan, Afridi returning to batting form is not good news - but I really enjoy watching him bat, so I hope he gets picked for the ODIs. Go Afridi!

Posted by   on (December 20, 2012, 0:20 GMT)

India Might have lost the Test series but it is due to lack of temperament as most of there players in the team were aggressive and stroke makers who are used for one day and T20 matches and as far as Afridi is concerned he just needed rest as he played so many matches before that he did not have time to practice in the net on his weaknesses and now he has worked them out so became a better batsman and work on his bowling too so will remain the best all rounder Pakistan has

Posted by   on (December 20, 2012, 0:13 GMT)

Good for Afrii to perform in the paractice match however he has been performing in practice matches for too long. He needs to perform in internation level...i think bowlers are not upto the mark in paractice matches therefore players like afridi perform at this level. Other teams they know his weaknesses and they bowl afridi in his weak areas therefor he only survives one or two overs......We need to bring new blood like harris sohail. Misbah should stop insisting on afridis inclusion. This is bad politics.

Posted by aamir007 on (December 19, 2012, 23:36 GMT)

Guys,

Please stop living in the past. When was the last time Afridi performed. This is a professional sports and very competitive not your backyard cricket or Galli cricket. He had his chances and now give other youngster chance to prove. It will take some games to perform for them not just one game. Move on with your life without Afridi please. No wonder Pakistan is not developing like other countries....

Posted by xylo on (December 19, 2012, 23:33 GMT)

I believe that the Pakistan team should have got Saeed Anwar to coach them on batting.

Posted by   on (December 19, 2012, 23:01 GMT)

we can take a chance specially in indian batting friendly pitch,i hope he will click!!!

Posted by jmcilhinney on (December 19, 2012, 22:59 GMT)

Apparently dropping Afridi has pretty much the same affect as his retiring, i.e. he's back in the team a day or two later. ;-)

Posted by   on (December 19, 2012, 21:57 GMT)

In Sha Allah Afridi did well in this series, Indo Pak Series is such a pressure series.

Posted by   on (December 19, 2012, 21:41 GMT)

InhsALLAH .... My Man will perform good in India.

Posted by ZsZs on (December 19, 2012, 21:12 GMT)

I like Afridi. I wish he could focus on his batting as well and wish him success. His 37 ball 100 is what legends are made of. God Speed sir.

Posted by   on (December 19, 2012, 21:01 GMT)

Good way to shut critics ahead of the big game.

Posted by dontlikecricket on (December 19, 2012, 20:52 GMT)

Afridi should only play T20 and when his form improves then only he should play one day. Sometime players need time away from the international games and concentrate on local leagues before rediscovering the form!! Good decision by PCB to appoint Inzi as a batting consultant/coach though!!

Posted by zarasochozarasamjho on (December 19, 2012, 20:39 GMT)

The other day I scored a very quick fifty - against a local club. I suppose that qualifies me to play for Pakistan. Afrida does represent Pakistan, as generally followers of cricket in Pakistan do not have the sense to understand the game, have little statiscal knowledge and doing some research before commenting seems like far too much hard work for them.

Looking at Afridi's record historically, it can be seen that his batting figures are pathetic compared to standard international performers. He has been a great misfortune for Pakistan. Being the cause of 1 win for every 9 losses does not seem to me a good bargain for Pakistan. I understand that Pakistan batting is still weal though improving. Afridi as a nightmare batsman - No! As a bowler and a lower end batsman, he may be useful - just. Misbah definitely must not be involved in limited overs cricket; as a test batsman he has been excellent.

Posted by   on (December 19, 2012, 20:36 GMT)

Where did he score those runs again ?? Practice matches ? are we crazy or not. Leave the guy alone. He is LUCKY to be picked in the T20 side. His selection is unfair to others who have consistently performed and have the capacity to perform more consistently .

Posted by K.A.K on (December 19, 2012, 20:32 GMT)

It will be great to see him in action against India. Go Afridi!

Posted by   on (December 19, 2012, 20:26 GMT)

no doubt he is the best...right now he is in bad form but we all know he is a true fighter and now this is the best time to show the world why he is called boom boom....

Posted by   on (December 19, 2012, 20:24 GMT)

Afridi will always be there on my All time Pakistan XI team...!!! He is their best one day player...!!!

Posted by   on (December 19, 2012, 20:03 GMT)

Afridi is the best player in the Pakistan team, everyone know he is not in foam but he is the most experience player in the world and he also can change the game, and if u see he is also useful in the last overs of the game and he can also take wickets when u need one.

Posted by MWaqqar on (December 19, 2012, 20:03 GMT)

Why can't PCB do anything right logically. First Afridi is dropped then a couple of meaningless practice matches and there is talk of return of Afridi. Hopeless way of doing things.

Posted by   on (December 19, 2012, 19:48 GMT)

Glad to hear :) Well done Boom Boom Afridi ... we love you all Pakistan Love you .. we want to see you in same form in India as well .. BOOM BOOM wish you Best of luck ..

Posted by   on (December 19, 2012, 19:45 GMT)

ok now I will watch the series

Posted by   on (December 19, 2012, 19:38 GMT)

well no doubt Afridi hasn't been in the best of his forms lately, but he can be quite handy with the ball at the pitches in india. He was the only bowler in the last ODI world cup performing well for pakistan, taking the maximum number of wickets beside zaheer khan. His batting is something he needs to work on, if he wants himself to remain as an all-rounder.

Posted by pak78 on (December 19, 2012, 19:37 GMT)

great news, we do need afridi effect against india to spice things up. with being one of the top allrounders in the world pcb shuld pick him 4 every odi or t20 until he finally hangs up his kit. he is such a great servant 4 his country and always gives his 100%.

Posted by PAKISTANiLive on (December 19, 2012, 19:02 GMT)

gr8 effort, I think he will be considered for ODIs against India!

Posted by Jay.Raj on (December 19, 2012, 18:47 GMT)

Afridi has a pretty decent history against india and if we can prove his bowling as well I think he can be given another chance mainly considering his experience.

Posted by gangsta78 on (December 19, 2012, 18:44 GMT)

Misbah knows how to keep his opponent in presure, the only thing indian team will b worried about is afridi's form coz they knows if he click's either with the ball or bat he can win the game for pakistan single handly, clever move.

Posted by vinodzz on (December 19, 2012, 18:37 GMT)

India are a different side in ODI, remember World Champions 2012

Posted by sitaram58 on (December 19, 2012, 18:33 GMT)

I thought he had retired!!!!

Posted by   on (December 19, 2012, 18:26 GMT)

Afridi should do well on batting friendly Indian pitches, hoping for a repeat of the 2005 tour where he scored 100 from 45.

Posted by Baber_Baloch on (December 19, 2012, 18:21 GMT)

Except bowling ,,,if Afridi use of Batting that only send him OPNER that it...other number he never can do................

Posted by palla.avinash on (December 19, 2012, 18:05 GMT)

The thing really surprises me not afridi form or niether he will play odis, but misbah supporting afridi so much.. in my life time i have never seen a Pakistan player supporting other player to come good.Good times for Pakistan they are looking forward to play as a team rather playing as inviduals, respecting each other.

Posted by   on (December 19, 2012, 17:40 GMT)

lolz Afridi is definitely not an all-rounder just an okay player. Pakistan still using their older players still.

Posted by   on (December 19, 2012, 17:37 GMT)

Keep him out for a while please....

Posted by   on (December 19, 2012, 17:31 GMT)

He should be used as a bowling allrounder. he is a v good hitter. v valuable player

Posted by   on (December 19, 2012, 17:27 GMT)

Why all this drama?? Either drop him and stick with the decision or don't drop him and stick with the decision.

Posted by   on (December 19, 2012, 17:23 GMT)

yes he is match winner,we do need afridi effect against india,,thats great happy to listen this......................

Posted by Syed_imran_abbas on (December 19, 2012, 17:16 GMT)

I hope he was droped before world t20 to realise the worth for playing national side..

Posted by haq33 on (December 19, 2012, 17:14 GMT)

Many have written Afridi off in recent times. When you recount what he has actually done for Pakistan during his prime, you will appreciate that he is one of the most naturally gifted strokemakers around. If he focuses on actually playing shots and doesn't actually occcupy his mind with thoughts about strike rate, then he can still provide Pakistan with a few more years of batting, not to mention his good bowling and excellent fielding. If we are being truly fair to him, I also think he fares better when there is less pressure on him individually, so he should be sent in to bat at a position that is according to the situation the team finds itself in. I say let's leave it open and decide after the T20's. After all, as it was during the England T20...cometh the hour...

Posted by   on (December 19, 2012, 17:01 GMT)

he is match winner, he must be in the squad he would be in mine.!!!

Posted by   on (December 19, 2012, 16:57 GMT)

GREAT NEWS finally for pakistan , we do need afridi effect against india =P he should get his aggression back
