MS Dhoni's participation in the final ODI against Pakistan is in doubt after he complained of soreness in his back during practice at the Kotla in Delhi. Wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik has been called up as back-up for the Indian captain.

"If at all somebody is doubtful, it's me," Dhoni said when asked about the absence of Yuvraj Singh at the practice session. "Since it was an optional practice session, Yuvraj did not come."

The issue of who will take over the captaincy will come to the fore if Dhoni misses out on Sunday. Over the last year, India have had three alternatives: Virender Sehwag when Dhoni was out with over-rate bans in Australia, Virat Kohli was vice-captain in Asia Cup, Gautam Gambhir in Sri Lanka, and now there is no official vice-captain. When asked, Dhoni said, "Let's hope that I play. We'll see tomorrow."

The final decision on Dhoni's fitness will be taken on the morning of the match.

The news will be a setback for the Indian side who have already lost the series to Pakistan, and are looking to avoid their first home ODI series whitewash since 1983-84.

Dhoni was the only India batsman who showed form in the previous two matches. He has scored 167 runs - 106 more than Suresh Raina, who is second - in the series without being dismissed.

Only twice in his career before he has been ruled out due to injury. Both times, it was the back problem that kept him out - once against New Zealand in Napier and against Bangladesh in Chittagong. In 2012, Dhoni missed two matches because of over-rate penalties, but played every other series, including the IPL and Champion League Twenty20.

Karthik, who has 1008 ODI runs against his name, last played for India in August 2010.

I like this comment and that is my opinion too "Dhoni is a politician. In WC 2011 he promoted himself ahed of Yuvi just because he want to be hero, couldnot yuvraj able to score in final match when he is doing well in all WC, Yuvraj is the real hero of both the WCs india won under dhoni,s captaincy. Why not Dhoni promoting himself now when all other guys are struggling. He is a selfish guy, playing for himself and his average not for India."

Could Dhoni face the 1st spells of new ball bowlers!

Difficult times for Team India ! Media has (probably) gone over-board condemning Dhoni & Co. Imo, the think tanks ( Selectors, Coaches, Management & of course Captain) are responsible and must take the blame for present fiasco. What were/are their short & long term strategies/plans to repair the situation ? Why persist with players whose shelf life is nearly over and why delay the integration of young talents ? India/Pakistan are always high intensity/pressure cooker games that bring out the best out of individuals. It was disappointing to see Team India throwing towel so early in the matches ! Players need to be reminded they are playing for their country, they must strive hard, sweat/bleed - it's their pride at stake. Results are part of the game but for pete's sake, give your 100% even if you lose - go down fighting ! Red hot Team Pakistan is simply DYNAMITE ! Go Paki Go - ya beaut ! Do it again !

@Javed Iqbal->Laughing so much..Typical Conspiracy theories :) Do you think that fixing is so easily done..A man just comes & asks PCB to lose the Semifinal match..& Pakistan agrees just like that?& then India loses this current series just like that..It's not that simple... Now tell me.. Was 1992,1996,1999,203 all those WC matches were fixed? & if yes then what Pakistan got in return? Ps->If Pakistan gets defeated,we say that the match was fixed. If we Win,still we say that the match was fixed..What should we do..Start playing Cricket or what

Its extremely naive on the part of some Indian fans who are saying that having pujara and rahane would have changed the result in the favor of India. when your most experienced players could not save you from the humiliation then a new comer who has least international experience can also not save you from it.sehwag was hailed as a dominating batsman but he couldn't perform and gambhir ,yuvraj, raina, were the core of Indian batting for the past 2-3 years and kohli has been earmarked as the future captain...this is the best possible team india could have...if these batsmen cannot perform then what can pujara or rahanay do...just admit that the opposition played better and get on with it...and i am shocked that indians say that they are in a transition phase but to be honest they were not even winning when tendulkar was playing and most of the people were calling for his head...same crying was going on for the removal of dravid, laxman, ganguly. Once the player retires you want him back.

As a Pakistani fan, i think Dhoni is the best Captain India have & a very good player. His decision making abilities are very strong & perfect. I hate the Indian media on how they mislead the public in India.

Team India-Nothing but a collection of overrated overhyped flat pitch kings. I am sure when IPL starts, they will be enjoying the adulation and pummelling no-name Indian bowlers in the flattest of pitches across the country. Atleast learn from SRI LANKA you guys! They are fighting against Aussies despite injury issues, while we got hammered 4-0, with a so-clled full strength side

If dohni has atleast 1 bowler like ajmal gul ,he will rule da world :(

Posted by   on (January 6, 2013, 5:04 GMT)

Today India will win and out play Pakistan (if Dhoni is out of team). Top four batsman will finish the game.

Posted by   on (January 6, 2013, 4:55 GMT)

@Javed Iqbal:- Couldn't agree with you more...Even I share the same opinion..Semi-final in the WC looked fixed...Besides that I also observe that Indian batsmen are kings when it comes to play in flat or batsmen friendly pitches...The problem arises when is little help in the pitch for the seamers..Here is where the free flowing T20 style batting approach does not work, instead technique and patience are the key...We still look clueless and under prepared in such conditions, as we were a year or two before..No improvement ;)...Heard the english cricketers had practiced in Dubai in rough turning pitches under Mustaq Ahmed coaching, before coming down for Indian series..the results of the same bore fruit...This is called homework, which I haven't heard much from our team :)

Posted by   on (January 6, 2013, 4:18 GMT)

Sorry to say but Indian media or any media just make news .dohni is best player that is y he is captain .in game some one has to.lose that doesn't mean he is finish .he is was the only player played even harsh conditions. I like player who give his best for team not for there self and he is one period. bullshit media hipe every thing .best of all he admit team.India.batting.flop.and team.Pakistan opted.well that all thanks on

Posted by   on (January 6, 2013, 3:55 GMT)

Ever clicked it's a Samjuta series?India gets the world cup and Pakistan gets the series in return for face saving.Ever noticed Pakistan played like school boys in world cup and now India with best batting line in the world played like second line school team.Be sure third ODI will be won by India for face saving for their public, but series thrown away. These two countries can go to any extend, without any principles, to fool their public.Anyway, all is well,as long as people of both countries are happy. To prove my point, watch carefully how Pakistan plays third ODI.

Posted by Romenevans on (January 6, 2013, 3:37 GMT)

Blessing in disguise if that happens! I hope Kohli will be the captain and i pray that Dhoni will remain injured for rest of Indian cricket days ahead so that we don't have to torture ourself by seeing his CSK friends playing in blue jerseys.

Why cant the selectors pick Mavinder Bisla as a wicket keeper batsman instead of Dinesh Karthik. They have to give chance for these kind of youngsters to make a perfect team instead of out form seniors...

Posted by nyc_missile on (January 6, 2013, 3:16 GMT)

@VijayParimoo For all the weaknesses you mentioned, its the Captain's job to see to it they're addressed. Not reading out a laundry list of what's wrong and parrot out ridiculous excuses every time. What is HE doing about it? In any case we never had a earth-shattering pace attack or anything, batting greats yes..and once they are gone,he is completely exposed.Even Ganguly had a bunch of rookies and he built it with single-minded focus to win not just draw OVERSEAS.Dhoni cannot handle seniors, will humiliate 'juniors' like Sreesanth publicly-Rahane ,Tiwary & Pathan subtly by messing with their selection..This is not what a captain should do..oh btw,Dhoni even when winning was an awfully defensive captain.Read up Sid Monga's insightful & revealing pieces on his laid-back captaincy even after SA series when we drew level. So he is not this wonder captain his fans make out to be.Just a purely fortunate one whose luck has vanished..time to DUMP him is now before it gets worse

Posted by   on (January 6, 2013, 3:13 GMT)

Its a very good news for India, we will definitely win today if he was out of team.

Posted by   on (January 6, 2013, 3:05 GMT)

People asking why Dinesh Karthik when he is number 31 (or whatever) in the Ranji Trophy. Isn't it simple, that if you bring a better wicket keeper batsmen in your place and also when your captaincy is already under criticism you would lose everything if someone showed a promise and performed in that place. If I want to keep my seat saved while I am away I would keep the worst there so the people would admire my-not-so-good-performance over a deep-shit-performance of some unknown.

team for england series rahane,gambhir,pujara,kohli,raina,dhoni,yuvraj,ashwin,ojha,b.kumar,i.pathan,sandeep sharma

Posted by   on (January 6, 2013, 2:37 GMT)

Why can't team India think of using Manvinder Bisla as a wicket keeper batsman. It always limits its options to Karthik or Parthiv Patel. Bisla, if given oppetunities, can prove his worth as top order batsman and a good wicketkeeper. Selectors are still blind against innovative options.

Posted by   on (January 6, 2013, 1:18 GMT)

MSD's captaincy isn't to blame here, lets be honest. The selectors have always played politics and allowed other facts and people to affect their decisions (including MSD). However on field MSD has done as good of a job as he could with what he had, but the selectors just didnt pick the right produce for the right occasions. The only good call they made in recent times is finally dropping R. Sharma. Hopefully they can fit in Rahane, or even give Pujara a chance in ODI's.

Posted by   on (January 6, 2013, 0:38 GMT)

Oh no. Not Dinesh Karthik again. Somebody like Gautam should have been give a chance. Karthik does not deserve a chance, take a look at his performance or for that matter his statistics.

It will be interesting to see if internal strife is indeed playing its part in India's defeats. Now that Dhoni is out, lets see how Viru Paaji plays!

Posted by Walson on (January 5, 2013, 23:22 GMT)

The best way to keep a team at the bottom is to keep changing captains, Wicket keeper and vice captain. While you are at it, change the Manager, coach and anyone else who may have any responsibility over the team - including the selection panel, BCCI management, the cleaner and the cook!! It will eventually produce the best team India can produce. Try every combination - batsmen become the bowlers, and visa versa. wicket keeper become the umpire etc....

Posted by   on (January 5, 2013, 23:18 GMT)

@ cricpolitics I dont know which team you support but every major team (maybe except South Africa) had gone through the stage India is going through now. Sri Lanka and New Zealand are going through it now. England and Pakistan had their downs. But what is India is going through now is just a mentality problem, maybe you can blame the coach for that I dont know but after Kirsten left everything seemed to be falling apart. India's batting lineup is still the best in the world (when in form obviously). Our openers might not be the best in the world anymore but our middle order is still a deadly combo: Kohli, Raina, Yuvraj and Dhoni. These guys have single handedly won many games for us many times

I can undoubtedly say that India is going to come back strong mate. You wont be enjoying our down for too long :) after all there is dawn after dusk

Posted by jiten27 on (January 5, 2013, 23:14 GMT)

they should call pujara, he is the best batsman among others, batting line up should be gambhir, rahane, pujara, rohit sharma/kartik,dhoni, jadeja, suresh raina, ashwin, bhuvneshwar, shami ahmed, ishant sharma. no yuvraj, sehwag, kohli ashok dinda try this team see india will do much better than previous game , i prefer katik instead of r sharma and amit mishra instead of jadega, amit has ability spin more than jadega.

Posted by T-800 on (January 5, 2013, 23:09 GMT)

Dhoni might be bailing out but who can really blame Dhoni? Most of India's batting order are in the process of a coup d'etat against the Indian captain. They want Dhoni replaced and their determination is so strong that they are not even frightened about the scary prospect of India getting a clean sweep from Pakistan and the resulting backlash from Indian fans. BCCI is asleep at the wheel and doing nothing to curb this indiscipline. About 3 months from now all this will be forgotten and everybody will be basking in the IPL. What we are witnessing is the rise of fat corporate paycheck funded private cricket and the death of national cricket except for maybe T20

Posted by VijayParimoo on (January 5, 2013, 23:06 GMT)

@nyc_missile and others - Dhoni is not quitting. There have been more miserable times for India like 2012 and Dhoni has shown he is probably among the best India has seen as far as captains go. He leads without talking too much and I think he is sitting out because of an injury. Indian team have the talent and been unfortunate they haven't clicked together. Their bowling isn't coming together at all and they can't win just with the bat. Poor bowling puts a lot of pressure on the batting and that's the area India need to improve in 2013.

Despite the results I have enjoyed watching Dhoni and India be among the best for last 20 years.

Posted by Albert_cambell on (January 5, 2013, 22:50 GMT)

Who cares he only plays to improve his average. With or without dhoni, pakistan are still going to thrash them.

Posted by   on (January 5, 2013, 22:46 GMT)

India is not going to get a cool minded captain in near future. There is no chance of him being replaced. Who do u expect will replace him? BCCI will be a fool to think of Virat wearing those shoes, as he is such an immature person who cant even manage his own self. A very good batsman though a VERY big SHOWOFF. Kevin peterson had the same issues. This is the kind which cant be the leader, other wise hell will break lose :) Best of Luck from Pakistan to all the indian brothers

Posted by kc69 on (January 5, 2013, 22:32 GMT)

Or i think BCCI(CSK IPL Team)asked him to take rest as IPL will start soon(Couple of months) and want him in winning ways for his Franchise.

Posted by kc69 on (January 5, 2013, 22:29 GMT)

For many asking questions...Irfan Pathan,Manoj Tiwary,Balaji,Umesh Yadav etc are all injured(as per BCCI)but i am doubtful BCCI will give them a chance again. However i feel if Dhoni is Fit he will definitely play(gotta give it to his commitment).I believed Gambhir should be dropped and Parthiv Patel should be given a chance(Left Handed Opener) and include Shami Ahmed(Fast Bowler) in playing 11.Looking forward to chages from Pak team as well by giving chance to young players like Anwar Ali,Haris Sohail.

Posted by   on (January 5, 2013, 22:28 GMT)

The sorry situation we are seeing is that Team India seem to be in such a state of disarray that there isn't even a vice-capt for situations like this. I think Duncan Fletcher is the worst thing that could have happened to India and the BCCI need to get their act together. They're destroying the careers of some of the best young players in the world. Even as a Pakistan supporter, I don't like to see this sad state of affairs with our neighbours. It was, however, joy beyond description for me to see our lads take the series. It's been hard for them living out of a suitcase for some years now and they deserved it. But I would rather have seen our lads beating a troubled free, united, fighting, Team India; rather than the India they won against.

Posted by nyc_missile on (January 5, 2013, 22:12 GMT)

I usually don't buy into or subscribe to conspiracy theories but if ever there was a chance to jump a sinking ship it is now and Dhoni is doing it.Lots of speculation in the media that after this series,Dhoni's ODI captaincy also will be closely scrutinized.Given the pathetic form this team is in,Dhoni might well have thought better to skip it and save his captaincy..Anyways,excited to see a new captain and new approach, new strategies..whatever the result ;because the Indian fan's expectation curve these days is from 'winning and thrashing teams' -->'at least run teams close' --> 'just expecting a fight'--> 'satisfied with a lesser margin of defeat' :) We are all inured to repeated humiliations and so a bit of newness is always cheers to Dhoni's missing out! (if that)

Posted by xylo on (January 5, 2013, 22:10 GMT)

If Dhoni is out, and India bats first, the whole match will be over in the time it takes to bowl 50 overs.

Checked the list of top scorers in Ranji Trophy and found two wicket keepers topping the list. At the top was CM Gautam and closely behind him at number 2 was Parthiv Patel. I also found Adutya Tare at number 19. Where was Dinesh Karthik? I found Karthik was at 31st place. Why ignore all these performances and bring back the guy who could not perform in the Ranji Trophy? I smell a rat here…

Guys, winning a tournament is nice but more important to win/fight on consistent basis. I wouldn't like Pakistan to win WC if I know they will play like India afterwards. I prefer them to fight and win regularly. I would be happy if my team stays on top 3 in ranking.

@@Sudhir Verma.

Nope. The luckiest captain is Misbah. Win or loose. His country still supports him.

Posted by Me_A_Gemini on (January 5, 2013, 19:53 GMT)

Although I am Pakistani team fan, I openly admit that Dhoni has been phenomenal for India and his other teams. But, I strongly believe that, whatever India has achieved since 2007, Gary Kirsten is largely responsible for it. Dhoni has been a good executor of good coaching and planning done by Gary. Rather than thinking of dropping, BCCI should accompany Dhoni with a coach having a good cricketing mind like Gary.

Common India. Where is Irfan Pathan. Wicket taking bowler. Why India didn't include him. He takes wickets in initial bowling. Everybody knows. It is a surprise Indian didn't include him.

I am Pakistan team lover and as you would know i hate team india. I never liked Tendulkar, although he has the best record and he is best in the eyes of many. Anyways comming to the point, Dhoni has given you how many world cups? Dhoni has missed how many matches due to injury? Dhoni the highest paid cricketer but still he is trying his best in all forms of cricket. If India had won the 1st ODI where Dhoni made century then he would have been your new god. You would have forgotten Tendulkar. Yes in the second ODI his approach was wrong and instead of concentrating on his 50 he should have tried to win the match but still i believe Dhoni is the best Indian captain since M. Azharuddin.

Posted by DravidJana on (January 5, 2013, 19:36 GMT)

My favourite captain MSD, he leads from the front.he plays captain innings most of the times and really cool guy I had ever seen. Hope Dhoni will play tomorrow and also our team India will avoid whitewash since 83/84. Come on guys(Indian cricket team), you can make us little bit happy atleast avoiding whiteash. My prayer will always there for my Indian cricket team. Special gud luck for my hero Raina.

Posted by   on (January 5, 2013, 19:35 GMT)

MSD should take some notes from Imran Khan, how to lead from the front!, he said an example in 1992 world cup when the top batsmen were struggling in Australia and New Zealand condition he promoted himself in the batting order and see off new ball, his brave decision played a vital role of winning the world cup. Dhoni has a leadership thats why he is leading India for the last 5 years just need to rethink his planning..... he still can role the world

Posted by   on (January 5, 2013, 19:31 GMT)

MS Dhoni is great player. As a Pak fan looking at Indian team failure is not due to MS Dhoni, actually it is due to some of the batsmen who are not doing well and Dhoni is getting blame. Dhoni is the only one making runs and everyone complaining about him, does not make sense. If batsmen not doing well, they should be replaced. Why India keeping Sehwag, etc.......................there is so much talent in India. and also T20 is killing Indian one day talent.

Posted by   on (January 5, 2013, 19:30 GMT)

I think Kohli should be given the Captaincy, forget about the Age, some ppl do Come of Age, and Kohli scoring all those hundreds and that Unbelievable Asia Cup innings against Pakistan shows his Cricketing wisdom, understanding and fighting spirit.

I would love to have a Young, Aggressive Captain but more importantly bcoz India might need Kohli 2 3 years to be a Captain to defend the 2015 World Cup Trophy.

I am a Pakistani, I loved Pakistani bowling and batting but I feel India did miss a few tricks.

Posted by realfan on (January 5, 2013, 19:26 GMT)

why to give rest for dhoni ( who scored 150 runs in 2 matches, and all other players total wont be exceeding that in 2 matches ) ????

karthick is a good opener. he played some good inning in england test series in 2007-08.... but to give a chance to other player u need to remove non performing player( gambir and sehwag)

they both a very interested in IPL. let them play there. and dont include them in test also.. give chances for new faces like RAHANE, TIWARY, MUKUND, KARTHICK.....even if they dint score in early matches, they are good learners, they will win matches in future....

and i would like to see KOHLI as captain tomorrow . though i believe board will go for SEHWAG/ GAMBIR/ RAINA for captaincy .... dont be surprised if we see ASHWIN as captain.....

Best of luck for Pakistan! MS Dhoni is a great batsman and w-keeper, India shouldn't loose him. Losing one or two series shouldn't matter, he is a genuine leader and should stick with his role which he was/is/will perform good. PAKISTAN ZINDABAAD!

I think Dhoni needs rest for few days. Our new team for third ODI against pakistan and england can be: Gambhir (C) Sehwag D.Karthik (WKt) V.Kohli S.Raina Y.Pathan Y.Singh I.Pathan R.Ashwin Balaji or Nehra B.Kumar

Dear Usman very sad to see your comments. Why to replace Misbah with dhoni. Misbah is our National Hero. He has given gift ODI series to Nation AGAINST INDIA. Be Pessimistic. Dhoni should play as batsman and D.K should play as wicket keeper. Pakistan should drop Shoaib malik and Irfan and give chance to Wahab Riaz and Haris Sohail. Azhar Ali should get one chance to build his confidence otherwise can be replaced by Umer Akmal.

Dhoni is still the best. After all cricket is a team game and our batting ( supposedly our strength) is failing. Its just one click from any of our greats, shewag, gambhir, virat, yuvraj, raina who can thrash any bowler in the world. We shall see one of then clicking tomorrow. All the best! Parvez

The problem with India is just not batting, but fielding and especially bowling. They have been outplayed in all formats of the game in the past 12 months. As long as the selectors are not smart enough to make changes (do not play Sehwag, Ghambir, or Jadeja), India will not succeed. What also doesn't help is the lack of quality pace bowling in India, and not just in seam friendly conditions. I can't see them making it to the final 8 in the next 50 overs World Cup.

@Abhishek Vaid : You would be better off NOT commenting on Cricket. Your comments clearly show that you have not been following Indian Cricket ! A leader who has led his team to WC victory, top test team, IPL( 2 times) & Champions league, cant be a FLUKE !So Pls get your facts right n then talk about ppl like MSD. You are being UNCIVILIZED by calling MSD a Wuss. God alone knows what you have achieved in your life to pass such comments !

If any team is performing well it doesnt matter who the captain is......

Hope Dhoni will play tomorrow .. he is the only in-form batsman as well as the best leader. People hate dhoni might not have seen or understand Cricket .. there is none in the world who scored 7000 runs at 52 avg and 88 strike rate ...also captained and kept wicket.. Hw many roles he played think of it haters ...

Why not C.M. Gautam as MSD's replacement for the time MSD is on rest?

DK is good form. He need Dhoni support now that is all needed. DK can play well. He was front runner in middle oder along with Kohli, RG and Raina. No one knows what happen and why he was dropped. He was scoring runs when he was dropped. If BCCI given him chance like batsman than WK, now things will be different.

Even though I don't comment on Cricket ! but I have to submit to my will and mention my thoughts. To begin with. I don't know why people Sing praises for Dhoni ! I mean, I've never seen a Captain who plays such negative cricket ! In all the so-called survivor innings that Dhoni has played, he has only asked the other person on the crease to play his shots, which he comfortably plays a test-match like innings at the other end. Since, he's the captain he gets unconditional right to exercise this strategy ! This is the only reason, he has so many not-outs. In my opinion, this is negative cricket.

More disappointing is the fact that he's the captain of so-called world champions ! I always thought that champions don't play by defensive strategies and their aggression is well represented by their captains ! Think of Ricky Pointing or Wasim Akram ! I've never ever seem them playing defensive to save their asses. They were fighters and carried their team with inspiration. Dhoni is a wuss !

Dhoni the batsman will me missed big time but Dhoni the captain will NOT be..So Ind will end up winning ..i aint complaining! The new captain hopefully Kohli will NOT be half as bad!

Best Captin ever is MSD. i am pakistani but i like the way he leads from the front.he plays captin innings every time but due to 2 or 3 players they dont want to see MSD as captin. Best f luck for MSD. u r star of India. if India dnt need him, then replace with Misbah :-)

If dhoni not play tomorrow final matchthan Khali will be leadthe side and will be officiating captain, there must be some thing going on in the Indian camp. The England side is already there, therefore Indian cricket board must take immediate steps to solve the problem and put indian team together to face a well balanced English team.

Posted by Addu01 on (January 5, 2013, 17:37 GMT)

I'm happy that Pakistan won. But I wonder why people are against Dhoni. He averages over 50 run in ODIs, he led India to win world cup and he performed in both of the matches against Pak. He can make strategies but strategies can't work without support from at least any team mate. Credit goes to Pakistan's great bowling. Good luck Pakistan!!!!

Posted by   on (January 5, 2013, 17:36 GMT)

how can you blame some one for failure of his batsmen ??? he was the only one who played well thats what is expected froma good captain . he gave india a world cup right ??? and india has got reasonable spots in both test and odi rating list

Posted by getsetgopk on (January 5, 2013, 17:35 GMT)

Playing good cricket and being a good captain are two different things. He's been a very reserved captain and hasn't tried anything new in wake of such a steep decline. However, it seems Dhoni should be in the team but not as captain, where as the rest of the team should be replaced because only Dhoni is performing, but if you bring in new players then who will have the experience to captain other than Dhoni? India has dug up a huge grave for themselves it will take years for them to get out of it. The non performers should have been removed from the team long ago including Tendulkar, Sehwag, Ghambir etc, IND might have lost a few games but they wouldn't be in such a mess as they are in now.

I think Team India should take a break. They are too tired of a few things mainly playing too much cricket, promoting too many products, surrounded by media and getting questioned or criticized by every second citizen. In fact, in their absence, BCCI could do some homework i.e. to find a Monte Panesar, a Dale Steyn and an Alister Cook for India in a country of 1,241,491,960 people where every 10th family has a cricketer, if I am not wrong. Hehe...I know it's not gonna guys chill. BCCI is not listening to you.

India is surely gonna loss. There isn't any friendly atmosphere in the dressing room.Dhoni critisizing openers that they play for themselves.I mean the team isn't united, half team doesn't talk to coach. There is biase selection.

I am Kashif from Pakistan. I believe Sachin was great Batsman, Sehwag, Ghambir and now Kohli all are legends of cricket and will be remembered for their great batting performances but surely Dhoni is best Indian Captain. He brought you everything you as cricket loving Indian fans wanted. Now, it's time to support him when his team is not supporting him properly on the field, Dhoni alone can do nothing and no other cricketer can do win matches on their own. Dhoni is great cricketing mind and he needs his team to support him as he needs his people to support him at this time when India is losing matches. I from Pakistan support Dhoni as captain because he is the best cricket mind in Indian cricket team and no one can replace him! If he does not play tomorrow, you all will know this!

Posted by Razay on (January 5, 2013, 17:13 GMT)

Having gone through so many comments on many cricket sites I have concluded following:- One- Indians highly over rate their team and think them as unbeatable. This obviously is not the case. Thy r like any other team of sub continent less Bangladesh. This creates undue pressure on the players. Two- everybody in India had already concluded b4 hand that Pakistan will b thrashed which has obviously happened but the other way round. The advert of "Aanay Dou" is a proof. Head to head, where India stands with Pak shows the obvious Three- Indians like to live in the achievements of past and make predictions on them instead of analysing the ground realities. Hence the heartbreak. Telecasting old cricket matches where India beat Pak on STAR CRICKET, ESPN and STAR SPORTS speaks of many things..grow up Four- Tendulkar and Dravid were world class players in every respect, may it b on the field or off the field. The phrase "Gentlemen's Game" associated with cricket is due to players like Tendulkar

Posted by WishIndiaImprove on (January 5, 2013, 17:13 GMT)

Dhoni is best captain and he needs to be in the team. Sit down and think fans, he is getting pressure from BCCI to take few players like VS, GG, RJ, YS, RS etc. Also, VS, GG play politics and spoils the whole team environment. We do not have class bowlers. What can he do? As sportsman he doesn't want to give up too. I think let them put all new and young players and throw atleast 6 non-performers. Young guys would like to prove themselves and respect the captain. It is worth to lose 5 to 10 matches to build a team for future.

dhoni is superb...for me he is definately the odi captain and test captain. virat should be the 20-20 captain...odi team for england is easy to be picked up ie. rahane,gambhir,pujara,virat,yuvraj,raina,dhoni,jadeja,ashwin,b.kumar,i.sharma,sresanth,dinda...but for test series against aussies itss realy hard to pick up 15 member team..i think selectors hav to take some harsh decisions..for me sehwag is the team should be..gambhir,rahane,jiwanjot singh, pujara, kohli, sachin, dhoni, dogra,cm gautam, ashwin, ojha,b.kumar, sandeep sharma,i.pathan, zaheer khan.

Posted by   on (January 5, 2013, 17:06 GMT)

Well first happy that my country(Pakistan) won the series. So sad to hear about Dhoni removal. One who has the knowledge of cricket doesn't change suggestion after each match. Whether a good captain or not, matter of winning world cup, matter of being no 1. in the test in past on other side, just one thing we need to think is there any wicketkeeper batsman better than dhoni ? Karthik and all are just 25 Percent of Dhoni. They need to understand like Sangakara in Srilanka, they have got the blessing in the form of Dhoni. Rest are doing nil and you want this in form player to be out, ridiculous indeed. They need a lot of change at infrastructure level and at board levels. Dhoni isn't an issue.

Posted by Dasarathy on (January 5, 2013, 16:56 GMT)

If Dhoni is not going to play in next ODI, then India will sure win and retain some pride, because cricket is a team sport which needs quality leadership, which is now lacking with Dhoni. Kohli should be made captain and Shewag and Rahne should open. Rohit should also play in the place of Jadeja. Gud chance to Dinesh, should make use of it.

Posted by El_Toro_Loco on (January 5, 2013, 16:56 GMT)

Dunno why there are so many post in praise of dhoni in regards to the last two odis? The 1st game was already over for India within an hour of play & the 2nd one was at around 100/6 mark. Dhoni just delayed the inevitable which is nothing special even Misbah or any other tuk tuk test match batsman can do that eaisely. Dhoni just padded his personal stats for all Indian fans to boast later ignoring the actual fact that India lost both games. Ciao...

Posted by OzWally on (January 5, 2013, 16:41 GMT)

Dhoni must have hurt his back carrying the rest of the batting line up. Still amazed that many Indian fans think he is the problem. Plenty of others to point fingers at before you get to Dhoni.

Posted by   on (January 5, 2013, 16:38 GMT)

I think @Atif Khan from Pakistan is spot on. Why blame Dhoni? I think media, former players & the audience are so jealous of his captaincy success that they think this is the right time to force his resignation. Very UNFAIR. He has bought us the WORLD CUP. Only next to KAPIL DEV. Captain Cool with great sense of cricketing knowledge. I never saw ANY CAPTAIN explain the entire cricketing language in post match presentation..talking abt the batting, bowling, where they went wrong & complete analysis. Dhoni is the one person who explains everything & understands the game of cricket well.

He is being targeted. After Sachin retired, our batting display is exposed. Gambhir always had Sehwag backing & he survived to become a great batsman. Sehwag on the other hand is very inconsistent & backed by our Ravi & Gavaskar saying "its natural talent"..he can go for shots..thts his game. He shld be thrown out.

Lastly, We shld follow what England Selection team does. Pick "in-form" players. Simple.

Posted by Desihungama on (January 5, 2013, 16:35 GMT)

If India wants to dig their own grave then go right ahead. All Pak can do is hand the shovel. You guys are calling for Dhoni's head? He is Mr. Consistency. Best form of his life. And really I don't see any of his decisions questionable. He has no support from anyone. Neither batsmen nor bowlers, barring Ashwin and Ishant to some extent. Fact is India got out played and seriously missed Tendulkar.

Posted by Zulqadar on (January 5, 2013, 16:28 GMT)

Being a Pak fan, i am happy that India's best batsman might not play tomorrow. Having said that the talk of removing MSD as captain is rubbish. I think he is the best every Indian Captian. He is the only Captian other than Ricky Ponting who has two world cups. (Ricky had the best every team in the world cricket who won the world cup). He takes a bold decision or risk occasionally when it pays off every likes him and when it doesn't pay off, he is criticized. I think it is better to introduce new blood like Rahane, Pujara and co in the team and groom them under Dhoni. Only thing on which he can be crticized is he should taken come up the order with such a great form he is in.

Posted by   on (January 5, 2013, 16:18 GMT)

How many people have to cry out loud, to include Rahane in the playing XI. before someone wakes up and does it? Ideally, Gautam is the person to vacate the spot. Even if it is Sehwag who gets replaced, it is OK. Sehwag & Gautam had been the major contributors to many a success for India. Now they are the major contributors to many of India's failures! What a complete role reversal! But we can not and should not be emotional about replacing them. With all due respect to players like Sachin, Sehwag, & Gautam, truth need to be told!

Posted by VinodGupte on (January 5, 2013, 16:03 GMT)

not a bad thing, after all. i mean, he has been playing non-stop cricket ever since amoeba crawled the earth. and this is a good chance to test someone else's captaincy. speaking of which, they should replace sehwag with rahane.

Posted by Fearless_Greens on (January 5, 2013, 16:01 GMT)

Good for dhoni and indian cricket. india will be playing for pride and they have already lost the series so why not try some new faces. same goes for Pakistan. They must give chance to new guys like Anwar Ali who can swing the ball much better than B Kumar. I think the young blood will instill the passion that we usually see in Pakistan india matches and that we missed in this series especially from indian side.

This is really sad. Dhoni, who has scored an unbeaten century and an unbeated half-century, and who has averaged 65 in ODI cricket in the last calendar year, now has Indian fans calling for him to be removed? What a load of rubbish. He may be a liability (though he seems to be back into SOME form) in Tests, but he's irreplaceable in ODI's.

Dhoni is the man who can handle the Indian Team strongly but only in ODI's & T20 S.He is the present best player in both form of cricket. But I think technicaly & As a captain he is not fit for the Test Matches in India & in Abroad also. We are now creating new records for loosing in home pitches. We have to Replace Sehwag & Gambhir & bring Ajinkya Rahane & Unmukth chand.Anyhow if we loose again then no problem because all seniors are not learning anything after continue loosing in abroad & home pitches. New youngstar's will learn something & they will prove them sure. This is the time to awake otherwise we will be very late.

Let us give him a break. Every body, well most of people critisizing him, why. If u see his performance. He always deserves his spot in da team. As a batsmen, i think he should promot himself @ da top order somewhere. I hope things will change soon than everybody will say oh yeah Dhoni is the perfect person to run the side.

Posted by PTtheAxis on (January 5, 2013, 14:45 GMT)

those who say dhoni has been performing well seem to forget how many matches he has lost india in t-20's and odi's through slow batting - in t 20's his strike rate hovers around 100 which means 120 in 20 overs and in odi's also he plays at a test match strike rate which he did in the last game as well. those who say he won t-20 world cup and odi world cup should gno it wasn't him who was the star of those tournaments - yuvraj was in form on both these occasions. dhoni with his brainless captaincy always tries his best to lose. he has no will to win. even the only t-20 win india got against pakistan came from yuvraj's bat. dhoni has been below par for a long time. he has gone beyond selfishkar in selfishness stakes and has no decency to step down no matter how many losses.

Posted by balajit on (January 5, 2013, 14:40 GMT)

Finally excess cricket has taken its toll on MSD. Without Dhoni the batting becomes even weaker. He is a champion ODI player. His finishing of games is just amazing. Anyways others have to step up & deliver tomorrow.

Could be make or break match for sehwag & gambir. Rahane should get chance to play so should shami ahmed & amit mishra. Ravi jadeja is not cutout for ODI's.

More than the outcome of the match the significant event would be selection for England series tomorrow. Selectors need to be BRAVE & select the team keeping in mind 2015 world cup.

Posted by   on (January 5, 2013, 14:39 GMT)

I think India will win the 3rd ODI if Dhoni doesnt play, because Cricket is a team sport which needs a good leader to gain the momentum in the game, which is lacking when Dhoni is captain of Indian Cricket team.

Posted by   on (January 5, 2013, 14:37 GMT)

This shows the importance of players like: Tendulkar, Dravid and Ganguly who were not only genuises in test cricket but always used to bail india out of triuble on bouncy and swinging pitches abroad in odi cricket.

No wonder india did well in odi cricket due to these people in abroad too. Natwest series 2002 being an example.. Not to forget the appearance in final in 2003 WC in South Africa and Commomwealth Bank Series 2008 victory in Australia.

Forget overseas tours, but now india has started running for cover even at home.

BCCI now has to wake up and start grooming youngsters as well as stop stupid tournaments like IPL & CLT20!

Posted by torsha on (January 5, 2013, 14:33 GMT)

I feel amused when people criticize Dhoni. Without Dhoni, whitewash will be on card. Other batsmen need to take responsibility. Ganguly's statement about MSD's approach with bat wasn't impressive. How on earth Dhoni could play his natural game when wickets are tumbling on other side?

Posted by razzman786 on (January 5, 2013, 14:10 GMT)

Please!!! Don't blame Dhoni. He played in 2nd ODI to send a message to the crowd, media as well as all his boys, how to play an ODI inning in a situational circumstances. He could easily start his inning with smashing four and sixes, which he did at the end of the game and returned not out. When Ishant was out then Dhoni was almost stand still with head down. He is a great player as well as cool and clever captain. There is no one else in the team India to replace him. Sehvag, Kohli and Ghambir all big headed with easily lose temper in any situation. The Indian cricket and Indian fans were let down by these three big headed and not Dhoni. The fall of Indian cricket is mainly due to IPL and the heroism of stars paid huge money to play T20 games, which is a death of cricket in India. Lastly, cricket becomes now a sport to earn money quickly and be famous. There has been no sportsmanship left in the players and cricket is no more a sport but an entertainment now. Pak team, well played.

Posted by   on (January 5, 2013, 14:05 GMT)

Pak looks a better side than Ind at this point in time. Therefore whether MSD is present or not might be immaterial.

I think India need to regroup themselves as a unit with one mission. No doubt they are brilliant as individual players but whether they click together is the question.

Posted by   on (January 5, 2013, 14:00 GMT)

Taking Dhoni or Fletcher off the jobs will not do any good for Team India. The real problem lies among the players. Permanently ban Rohit Sharma and Virendra Sehwag. Bring in two new operners like Rhane or any new youngster & send gambhir for ranji. For the middle order dhoni should bat up the order and have a stabilizing batsman like Cheteshwar to stabilize innigns for early losses of wickets. As far as bowling Send all of them to a good bowling coach who can train them to do perfect yorkers and bouncers. In last few games I have hardly seen any indian bowler to bowl swings. Send entire team to get a haircut as they are looking like ugly ducks. Select 20 good players and let them play only in First Class Cricet they have to choose only 1 either first class cricekt or IPL. Series against pakistan, What I felt is that Indians are preparing for the IPL.

Dhoni says, "Since it was an optional practice session, Yuvraj did not come." Why optional? The team should be practising hard not taking vacation when losing badly almost every game.

Gambhir should be given captaincy India won all the matches under his and he plays like COOK if he is a captain...!!!!

The perfect team for tomorrow's game:

1) Gautham Gambir 2) Ajinkya Rahane 3) Virat Kohli (Captain) 4) Yuvraj Singh 5) Dinesh Karthik (Wicket Keeper) 6) Suresh Raina 7) Ravindra Jadeja 8) Amit Mishra 9) Ashok Minda 10) Ishant Sharma 11) Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Posted by xrocks on (January 5, 2013, 13:31 GMT)

CM Gautam should have get the nod but due to Karnataka's knockout match on Sunday,he misses out though he has had such a great season and also this is not a series decider against Pakistan. Parthiv Patel cannot play well in the middle order and so he may have missed. So experience and a decent form has helped Karthik. We definitely need a different opening pair and a chance for Amit Mishra.

Posted by   on (January 5, 2013, 13:26 GMT)

Its a dilemma for Dhoni. If Gambhir or Kohli captains the team and win the match comprehensively or even if by a mere margin, then everyone would be calling for his head to be chopped form the captaincy, which dhoni would want to avoid. So, even if Karthik keeps the wicket tomorrow with Dhoni as a batsman only, I wouldn't be so surprised.

Posted by   on (January 5, 2013, 13:20 GMT)

Well both ODI games have disappointed me as I was expecting neck to neck competition but what this series has proved is a simple equation to team India & Indian fans that in past decade you had as 55/45 edge over us (Pakistanis) but that was NOT your great batting giants it was dead flat tracks you were given with now pace, bounce, swing & spin. Now the moment Pakistan got a bit of spice in the tracks the winning ratio went from 55/45 to 30/70 in favor of Pakistan. Such a huge difference even with very moderate & shaky batting line up Pakistan has dominated Indian side just because of responsive wickets. Admit it!!!

Posted by   on (January 5, 2013, 13:18 GMT)

Dhoni doubt, then India will completely wash out from series with pakisthan

Posted by   on (January 5, 2013, 13:18 GMT)

When I see Indians or Indian media in particular criticizing Dhoni, I laugh. Either they've no knowledge of cricket or are blind. Dhoni has been performing well, he performed well and played captain's innings in the both ODIs that India lost. Other batsmen should be blamed who didn't perform well and support Dhoni.

Posted by sckandy on (January 5, 2013, 13:14 GMT)

@Kassimpradeesh, Sanju is new comer let him prove his ability in next 1 or 2 season. It is too early to give a chance now under this circumstances.

Posted by khurdum on (January 5, 2013, 13:08 GMT)

Comments on Dhoni's rest due to back injury are mixed with hurt feelings and disbelief. But bijaya baskar seemed happy and he wants Dhoni out of the game for good. I don't think there are too many to support bijaya except gadhaskar who also wanted dhoni out of captaincy and recommended kohli as replacement. What is the performance of kohli in this series? All of them are more than 100 runs behind Dhoni in 2 crucial matches. What india will do with Dhoni is none of spectators business, but we owe him a lot for his fighting spirit during crisis which present members are lacking totally. In 2nd ODI, indias defeat was next to humiliation on their home soil. Dhoni was not responsible for such defeat. Other batsmen and their so called strategist were responsible for shameful performances by team india. Next time, when indian supporters put their comments against BD or any other team, they should check up with their own performance 1st and then start comparing performances of other teams.

Posted by Malti65 on (January 5, 2013, 13:07 GMT)

Not only team India but also the fans will miss him if MSD does not play.

I personally feel a half fit Dhoni is better than many other fully fit players in the indian team. If Dhoni is not fully fit to take on all the responsibilities (incliuding keeping) , then he should play as batsman & captain. Let Karthik keep the wickets. In that case Karthik can come in at the cost of Sehwag/Jadeja. In the present scenario we cannot afford to miss Dhoni the batsman. Also I think it would be a good idea if Ajinkya Rahane is played in place of Gautam Gambhir. Rahane had shown a good form against the Pakistani bowlers during the just concluded T20 series.

I think it is high time the india starts addressing the issue of the ageing indian stars. No point in keeping the inform younsters out while the seniors are strugling big time. BEST OF LUCK TO DHONI & TEAM INDIA.

Dhoni was the only asset in the last two ODIs. It will be a shame to lose him for the third ODI -- if we lose!

Posted by Dandy_s on (January 5, 2013, 13:05 GMT)

Why Dinesh Karthik......Parthiv Patel so far had a brilliant season scoring almost 900 runs at a strike rate of 85 he should be given another chance

Posted by kassimpradeesh on (January 5, 2013, 12:57 GMT)

Give a chance for Sanju V Samson, a 18 year old player from Kerala. Already he hit 2 centuries and a fifty on this Ranji season.

Dhoni as a captain has affected the dhoni as a player. It was easy for dhoni as a player to go out and smash those sixes with nothing to care about under ganguly or dravid. Now that he is captain he has to take responsibility everytime and we have seen over the years how beautifully he has manged that winning us two world cups and even CB series in australia. In the recent past, dhoni has lost that side than that ability to help him take bold decisions. Being out and claiming how defensive dhoni has grown onto be is very easy mistake. To him, his side has lost that intent and that desire to win and contribute. Indian bowling always kept contributed their bit to add to the problems. Dhoni as a player doesn't need to be dropped but infact smartly utilized in any two or one of the formats giving chance to others. And dhoni as a captain can be sacked if and only if india have that deserving choice ???? Is there anyone guys???

Posted by CricketChat on (January 5, 2013, 12:52 GMT)

Why wasn't Saha, the perennial backup keeper to Dhoni past 2 years or so, given a chance? Karthik and Patel, both wk batsmen, have been given enough chances to prove their mettle and they failed every time to push their case. Much like Rohit Sharma. Hard to fathom why Ind selectors are afraid to break in new players instead of going back to mediocre players all the time.

Posted by sckandy on (January 5, 2013, 12:52 GMT)

Unbeleivable downfall of Indian team from 2011 world champions, Since Duncun Fletcher took over from gary Kirsten really some thing is missing, I think somebody like Saurav Ganguly must become coach of Indian team, many players in Indian team is brought up by dada, If given chance to Ganguly team performance will improve.

Reading the posts it appears that Dhoni is not very well liked. India supporters need to have a reality check. India had a number of world class (I do not use the term lightly) batsmen retire in the last 12 months. India is going through a transitional stage as the replacements need to be groomed into their role. It is never easy for batsmen in their 20's who often come to maturity in their 30's. Consider Hafeez and Malik for Pakistan … often slated for their batting approach have showed some maturit. Akmal's take note before you waste your talent. As for Dhoni my only criticism is that he needs to be a batting floater or even bat at no 3 to provide the stability for the rest. Indian need to consider 'fast bowler friendly pitches'. In preparing flat track batting pitches what kid is going to try and break his back bowling and bowling fast? Having bowler friendly pitches will also test the mettle of your batsmen.

Posted by Indian_Cricket_Fanatic on (January 5, 2013, 12:46 GMT)

I literally start loosing my cool off indian fans when they want dhoni to retire. They should just look back at those days when india was struggling to find a good keeper and rahul dravid had to do the job. Lets look at some stats. Dhoni's average in recently concluded test series against england was test average is 38.06 a little disappointment there...his t-20 average against pakistan + england combined becomes t20 avg is odis against pakistan he has remained not no average generated. He as a player has been commited. His priorities might have got jumbled. But he has been commited. Look in domestic cricket karthik?saha?patel? Even in test cricket, dhoni's average is best among the lot that have played for india. Even boucher's test average is 30 to dhoni's 38. Even when team is struggling to manage that figures tells a lot about a player. We need to get gauti-sehwag out and need new good openers now. Everything will go fine.

Posted by Happy_AusBang on (January 5, 2013, 12:46 GMT)

Just goes to show the bankruptcy in Indian selection. If Dinesh Karthik is supposed to be the backup of Dhoni, why has he not played any game for India for more than two years. This will just put him under pressure and it won't be good for the team either.

Posted by sachin_thegr8 on (January 5, 2013, 12:46 GMT)

Gr8 chance for Dinesh karthik. A player with lots of talent but less numbers to show hope he does well if he plays tomorrow.

Posted by PakCricketRockStar on (January 5, 2013, 12:40 GMT)

the only person who can make a place in "Team of the Series" from India... cant believe people are thinking of changing him as a captain.. well its gr8 for us as Pak supporters so ya man do it .. will be awsome... i think Pak should play all players in the last ODI who havent had a game yet... Rest Junaid, Irfan and Gull and play wahab, Anwar ali n asad ali .. and play Haris sohail for Azhar... will be awsome if we still win :) and we actually can :)

Posted by andrew27994 on (January 5, 2013, 12:38 GMT)

This is good news that finally the man is getting some rest he so longingly deserves. And good to see Karthik getting a chance as he looks in terrific form. Hope Shami Ahmed Mishra and Rahane get a chance as well for the next game. My Playing XI for next match would be : Gambhir, Rahane, Kohli, Yuvraj, Jadeja, Raina, Karthik, Mishra, Ahmed, Bhuvaneshwar and Ishant Sharma

BCCI's contineous selction policy and failure in nurturing talent are the causes for current debacle of Indian Team. The Adiministration's inability to forsee the future has contributed to this stage of Indian cricket , from a dominant position we are slowly moving to the bottom of the table. Pakistan has been producing talented palyers that is one of the reason, though at times go to the bottomm, they manage to play cricke of highe standard . India do not have talended consistant players . Every players tent to deteriorate after short success and have not shown fighting spirit in any format of the game except IPL. Needless to say all the current players who are playing in the team is because of the their clout and not past performance. Becase of these selection policies the talented players get side lined, It is time for BCCI admin body to seriously look into talent than who say namaste to big bosses .So it is time for Mr, Pawar also brought into the scanner.

Posted by AnotherCricketer on (January 5, 2013, 12:33 GMT)

It is just a game folks. If there is anything this series proved is that Indian players are mere mortals too. Ups and down in the form is nothing new. Blowing things out of portion risks affecting the team, and the players, in the long team. Team India has a strong batting lineup and they are a fine unit. Give them a break!

- Pak fan.

Dhoni will definitely play! He knows that if someone else leads India to the much needed victory, even though the series is already lost, his reign as captain will be over.

best ODI cricketer in Indian team, i dont know why indian people hate him

Posted by   on (January 5, 2013, 12:19 GMT)

Dinesh Karthik has been called up as back-up for the Indian captain.........

Posted by kashan0001 on (January 5, 2013, 12:09 GMT)

Dhoni shud take rest ,its coz of nowadays they play too much cricket plus extra IPL.

Posted by   on (January 5, 2013, 12:08 GMT)

why Dinesh Karthik? ..................

Posted by   on (January 5, 2013, 12:06 GMT)

As a Pakistani supporter, I'm glad if Dhoni doesn't play. He is one of the most dangerous ODI players, and I just don't know why Indians hate him so much. If he doesn't come in the middle, our job will be 50% done. Moreover, I reckon Dhoni is skipping the game intentionally as a personal, ego problem (which is fine IMO). The entire Indian media and group of cricket supporters have been a bit too harsh on him. Instead of Dhoni, the rest of the team should be held accountable.

Posted by   on (January 5, 2013, 12:03 GMT)

There many other reasons for his rest besides the injury. It's like a message to everyone. If Indian players play well without Dhoni, it will be because they don't like Dhoni. If they still don't play well, they will miss Dhoni's strategies, his runs that saved Indian side from a complete humiliation and his defense for the team players at Q&A session with media.

Posted by   on (January 5, 2013, 12:00 GMT)

Why call Dinesh Karthik now ? He cannot be a safe bet for the next world cup. Why not Muralidharen Gautam ? He is the most successful wicket keepr in the country. At this stage, India already down 20--0 in the series there is nothing to lose ! Blood the youngster when he is full flow, so that he can benefit from the experience.

Posted by PrakashKrishnagiri on (January 5, 2013, 12:00 GMT)

If Dinesh Karthick is in, then India should play him as an opener and give rest (drop!!!) to one of the existing openers. This will leave us one more spot vacant in the middle order to play an extra Batsman.

Posted by likeintcricket on (January 5, 2013, 11:59 GMT)

I would rest Azhar Ali and give Umer Akmal a chance in the last one day. Azhar and Misbah are backbones of Pakistan Test side but in One days Pak need one more stroke maker. Irfan has provided much terror in the opening despite being expensive but if the conditions are cloudy and damp than Anwar Ali has a case.

Posted by   on (January 5, 2013, 11:58 GMT)

Its really good for me being a pakistani that we won the series. But what indian media is doing MS dhoni is not right in my opinion. What a captain can do if top 5 Players are not doing anything.Dhoni played his part in 1st ODI. But others should also play their part.

Posted by pulkit10 on (January 5, 2013, 11:55 GMT)

He really needs a rest. He had let his bat do the talking for the past few games but the team has been under such scrutiny that it has gone largely unnoticed. Just let him have a rest until the England series.

I also hope he moves himself up the order to at least 4. After Kohli, there isn't an anchor in place - Yuvraj needs his own time and pace, Raina isn't very dependable and Jadeja is well...Jadeja and it is too much for these three to handle after three wickets fall quickly. Seriously, this Indian team is starting to look more like a depleted Sri Lanka unit made up of self-styled "all-rounders" who excel with neither bat or ball and that's what's costing India. They need to find answers and fast. Bhuvuneshwar's selection was a right step and they'll have to take several of those before they can design a team capable of moving beyond #5 in the game. For a country with 300 million young adults, it shouldn't be that hard...

not good for india cricket team only fighter plus only player who deserve captaincy :(

Posted by   on (January 5, 2013, 11:51 GMT)

@Rahman Rafi, why not C M Gautam, 900+ runs this ensuing season. Fantastic keeper. Dinesh Karhtik too is good one and shd be our 2nd as he can play as a bat and as WK/Bat.

I second that @Devadeep. Well, actually I'm not too sure. I mean, i don't want to see them lose the Eng ODIs cuz that would be TERRIBLE. But we really do need him for the Aussies. And if he really is going to retire from one format, i think it'll be tests since he's an awesome ODI player...

iam very happy pakistan won this series not only to show to the cricket world what pakistan team is made of but to prove to india and indians that pakistan arent no soft team or should not be taken lightly...pakistan is a strong strong team... better luck next time india...the fact pak beat ind in india that is a HUGE statement and message... great game...
