Kieron Pollard, the West Indies allrounder, has been rested from the ODI squad for the series in India because of an injury. Kemar Roach has also been ruled out of the series, which starts on November 21, with a shoulder injury.

West Indies recalled Kieran Powell, Veerasammy Permaul and Narsingh Deonarine, after they had not been chosen for the tri-series against India and Sri Lanka and the home series against Pakistan earlier this year. Powell, Permaul and Deonarine last played for West Indies in the ODIs against Zimbabwe and were not a part of the squad for the Champions Trophy.

The trio had been part of the West Indies A squad that recently toured India, playing first-class and List A games against the India A side. Deonarine was second highest run-getter for West Indies A in the first-class matches - 276 runs in three games at an average of 46 - and scored a fifty in the only List A game he played on the tour. Permaul also had a good outing for West Indies A, finishing with ten wickets in two first-class games.

The other notable inclusions in the squad were fast bowler Ravi Rampaul and wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin. Rampaul had suffered an ankle injury in the tri-series against India and Sri Lanka and was also sidelined for the home series against Pakistan. He returned to competitive cricket for Trinidad & Tobago in the Champions League T20. Ramdin, who has played just seven ODI games this year, had been dropped frequently due to indifferent form. His last ODI fifty was against India in December 2011.

West Indies' ODI form has been poor of late, with only seven wins in 20 matches this year. Their record away from home is worse, with five losses in as many games in 2013. Their last ODI series win was against Zimbabwe in February this year. In the previous series between India and West Indies, in India, the visitors lost 4-1.

Squad: Dwayne Bravo (capt), Tino Best, Darren Bravo, Johnson Charles, Narsingh Deonarine, Chris Gayle, Jason Holder, Sunil Narine, Veerasammy Permaul, Kieran Powell, Denesh Ramdin, Ravi Rampaul, Darren Sammy, Marlon Samuels, Lendl Simmons

Couldn't agree more with wirus!! Also people seem to forget that pollard was dropped at the end of the tri nation series in the caribbean due to his abysmal from. Also in terms of the allrounder spots or just overall selection team. how does andre russell get over looked when his career stats are better granted in less games than sammy, pollard and dj bravo. furthermore wasn't ramdin dropped from the odi squad?? did he score runs on some level while no one was watching?? the easiest way for any boy/man in the w.i to make the team would be to be a wk/batsman. seriously your competition is someone who averages less than 26 in both forms of the game. there are many bowlers around the world with better avg: ash win, broad, swann, philander to name a few. if i was simmons or charles i wouldnt even practice batting but wicketkeeping as they would almost be guaranteed to score more runs than ramdin.

Hey guys im a windies fan im just 15 but I love cricket with all my heart iv been following it for a long while now and how does this odi team sound I kno im just 15 but maybe this team cld work Chris gayle Johnson Charles Kieran powell marlon sammuells lendl simmons chadwick Walton andre Russell Darren Sammy sunil narine ravi rampaul delorn Johnson that's d playing 11 d Johnson did well in the cpl so did Walton and Russell for the other four that will be on standby are leon Johnson nikita miller Jason holder and johnatha carter I really love watching leon Johnson he is a very busy batsman and rotate strike well and finds the odd boundary a team needs someone like him in the middle order to rotate the strike of Russell bowling is expensive let him share bowling with sammuells and simmons

Any team that takes the field with Ramdin at 6 and Sammy at 7 cannot be considered as taking the game seriously. Sammy wont even bowl when the going gets tough utter shambles

wirus : The selectors should frame your comment. Perfect 6 commandments! By the way, the WI should move to at least a 5 person selection panel. Too much collusion and horse trading are possible with 3 persons. President Dave think about this innovation. Please select only 1 person from the Lara era.

W.I played Dillon and Powell forever even when it was obvious that these guys were no good. Now they are persisting with the same team series after series. The opposing teams know what to look for from Best.Permaul is not in the same class as Miller when it comes to taking wickets, and if the selectors were following the cricket they would of seen that Miller is a more capable batsman than either Permaul or Sammy.Ramdin as a batsman must be the easiest batsman to get out in the world. He should ask Viv to help him.W.I need new selectors and fast.

Darren Sammy and Darren Ganga are the same. They can only set fields and make the bowling change. Sammy is too slow and dont have enough variations in tests. They ought to get a new test captain and replace sammy in tests. Why Play Ramdin when u have Charles and Simmons? U cant depend on Ramdin to score 10 runs to win a match and most times is about scoring runs that counts than catching behind or stumping. Ramdin and Mervin Dillon are on the same heights they play until they are convinced that they are NO GOOD.

It's time for WI SELECTORS to start reading the cricinfo blogs. Maybe that will help them in making sensible decisions in selecting WI teams. This ODI team is almost the same team that was just recently defeated badly at home by Pakistan and failed to qualify for the final in a ODI Tri-series played in the West Indies against India and Sri Lanka. This is just pathetic. The bloggers have correctly identified the weaknesses in this team and also some of the players that could have made a difference in the overall performance of the team. The most glaring selections: Ramdin instead of Chadrick WALTON who was brilliant in the recent CPL. Tino Best instead of JOHNSON or Cotterell who both performed well in the CPL- what has Tino done to retain his peak ? Permaul instead of MILLER who's been in great form in the Caribbean and recent A-team tour of India. Powell instead of CARTER or Evin LEWIS. The captaincy of Bravo has been woeful. RAMDIN should play if replacing Bravo as SKIPPER.

HOW TO LOSE AN ODI SERIES BEFORE THE FIRST BALL IS BOWLED. 1. Pick your team in the middle of a test series, after a humiliating defeat and with no knowledge of how anyone will perform in the next match. 2. Keep using the same failed players from the last series without introducing any new ones with potential (unlike what India did by introducing Shami and several others before him). 3. Have neither a strong batting line up nor a strong bowling unit - just a bit of both and hope for the best. 4. Have another captain whose batting and bowling would not get him into any other ODI team except maybe Zimbabwe - maybe. Also make sure he is a fairly clueless captain and one who has been dropped from the test team due to lack of performance. 5. Never do anything surprising or innovative. Just keep on doing what has helped you lose again and again. 6. To further help the opposition, repeat the bragging that took place prior to the 1st test about not giving an inch. Yup, that ought to do it.

What is everyone worried about? Ramdin is the best keeper in the WI. No one noticed his performance behind the stumps in the last test match? Do you want to drop Kohli early on in his innings? Or do you want to ensure if he edged and wonders out that the keeper takes care of business? Pollard leaving is a blessings in disguise. WI play too much all rounders and does not have 1-5 with specialist batsman. Before you win a game must we not ensue runs are on the board? Hasn't Deonarine shows he can bat? He is mediocre? Wow. He can bat and score quickly and should not be considered only as a test batsman.

Exasperating! Simply exasperating. These selectors announce a squad days after a heavy defeat and put back average ODI players like Best, Ramdin, Permaul, and Deonarine. Surely they could have waited and looked at this last test and used some of that info in their thinking, but they probably picked this squad last week and went ahead with it. The batting is weak; it might fire but Gayle and Charles can be devasting or indifferent. Sammy and Bravo are average all rounders outside of T20 and Ramdin is more suited to tests, if at all. Walton, Miller, Emrit and Santokie were viable options but only the selectors know why they pick who they pick.

shiv shuld be in the odi squad

Ramdin in the ODI squad? what happen to the Jammaica T20 Keeper?? You'all kidding me!!

Posted by   on (November 10, 2013, 16:02 GMT)

what about Brendon Nash in test matches?

Posted by   on (November 10, 2013, 15:51 GMT)

Where is Dwayne Smith ?? With his experience in these conidtions , he would have come handy !!!

Posted by   on (November 10, 2013, 15:36 GMT)

It time for the WI selectors to display their maturity now by selecting young players like Evin Lewis of T&T if they want to win and form a good team for the 2015 WC.

Strange, Pollard never gets injured while playing for Mi in IPL and now he gets injured ?

Posted by   on (November 10, 2013, 7:25 GMT)

where is Jerome Taylor, anyone knows?

Posted by   on (November 10, 2013, 7:25 GMT)

For the test i think the batting should be 1. Gayle 2. Powell 3. Edwards 4. Bravo 5. Samuels 6. Chanderpaul 7 Deonarine 8. Shillingford 9 Walton 10 Cotteerll 11 Sammy(C)

Posted by   on (November 10, 2013, 7:16 GMT)

Fans, President Dave and selectors, please give Bravo sum much needed time as captain. Darren Sammy was given about five years before he did anything of substance and still his stats are miserable. please give Bravo more time. In fact he should be i the test squad as well ahead of d

good news for the windies pollard is extremely overrated

Posted by android_user on (November 10, 2013, 2:27 GMT)

Why not Dwayne smith & Russel in odi team?

Posted by aclarity on (November 10, 2013, 1:27 GMT)

President Dave, these fumbling, crumbling, mumbling selectors are on a mission to embarrass you. Is Bravo captain? Bravo failed miserably in that position in the champions league in England this year, he failed in the same position in the Caribbean after that, and his own countrymen booed him as the captain of the Trinidad Red Steel. Permal makes the team ahead of Miller. Is this the same Permal that Sarwn hid against left handers in the CPL? How did Ramdhin make ahead of Walton? This is surely 3-0 to India. What is disheartening and painful is the effect these selectors are having on deserving players while Dave sits and/or hopes.

From this squad the team should be: Gayle, Charles (wkt), Powell, Samuels, Darren Bravo, Simmons, Dwayne Bravo, Sammy, Narine, Rampaul, Holder.

Posted by   on (November 9, 2013, 22:45 GMT)

I'm very hurt for the way the WI team has performed in this test match. After having fair starts and not doing anything with it was very sad.

Posted by   on (November 9, 2013, 22:37 GMT)

Ramdhin,Permaul out Nikita miller and Chadwick Walton in.

Posted by   on (November 9, 2013, 22:04 GMT)

The only way westindies can even compete with india is by making the team as follows: 1. Johnson Charles (wk) 2. Keiran Powell 3. Chris Gayle 4. Bravo 5. Marlon Samuels 6. Ledll Simmons 7. Dwayne Bravo 8.Sunil Naraine 9. Ravi Rampaul 10. Jason HOlder 11. Permaul/Best/Sammy

Posted by   on (November 9, 2013, 21:16 GMT)

Russell should have been in

Posted by   on (November 9, 2013, 20:35 GMT)

Pollard rested? injured? or a much needed time off? hopefully the selectors can get the combo. right for the second test. The strategy has to right on the field as well. for 83/5 to 453 with out Gayle or Samuels on the ball is unimaginative. THe batting need a boost, hopefully, Deonarine comes in for his compatriot Permaul,.

With Shane, the quicks, Deonarine, Gayle the bowling should be competent

Posted by   on (November 9, 2013, 19:08 GMT)

Blessing in disguise. Can't afford a duck farm in the WI line up.

Posted by king-ashoka on (November 9, 2013, 19:01 GMT)

another blow for westindies.

Posted by   on (November 9, 2013, 18:49 GMT)

How is Andre Russell not in this squad?. The man was impressive as Jamaica won the CPL and on the recent A-tour to India he took 4 wickets in 4 balls...More madness from the selectors..

I think its time Chadwick Walton be given a run in ODIs, Ramdin's batting is not up to scratch. WI have been using Charles as a keeper and that been affecting his batting, this tactic cannot continue.

Would have picked Rayad Emrit & Ashley Nurse over Best and Permaul also.

why all good players are out before india series and make india win easily

Pollard should move to his permanent home i.e. Mumbai.

Posted by simonviller on (November 9, 2013, 18:07 GMT)

Where are DR Smith , K.Edwards and J. Carter ? One or more of these should make the team .

Posted by ilyas on (November 9, 2013, 18:06 GMT)

How have ramdin, permaul and best got in this side? Permaul is nothing special and seems to have some sort of hold over the coach and captain to be regularly picked ahead of someone like Miller. Best is fast and brainless as can be evidenced generally over the last ten years. As for Ramdin - where do you start? His batting has got worse and worse as he just seems to want hang on the back foot. No wonder he plays on to his stumps so often. Ramdin is not going to improve now and it is time to say goodbye. Give Walton a go - if he scores10 runs per innings it will still be better than ramdin!

Just IPL, I am sure you are saying this in jest. Next IPL is still six months away! :)

Posted by CodandChips on (November 9, 2013, 17:56 GMT)

No Pollard = Blessing in disguise for WI. An average of 25 after 80 matches is poor . Pollard is not good enough atm for ODIs. Also his temperament is awful-any doubters remember ct13vs South Africa.

Roach is a fantastic bowler and will be missed.

Posted by BRUTALANALYST on (November 9, 2013, 17:54 GMT)

3 Wicket keepers for an Odi series ? What is purpose of Ramdin if you have Simmons and Charles . . .

Of the squad selected this would be my 11 and order

1. Gayle 2.Simmons/Charles (K) 3.Powell 4.Samuels 5.Bravo 6.Deonarine 7.Bravo (c) 8 Sammy 9.Narine 10.Best 11.Rampaul

I like playing Powell at 3 allow the openers to both play there natural game to get a good start and if there is early wicket he can steady the ship then Samules or Deonarine breaking them up before Bravo jr to add a bit of balance and experience.

Posted by InsideHedge on (November 9, 2013, 17:46 GMT)

So if I use deduction - although that's a dangerous strategy when you're dealing with the complexities of West Indian cricket - Narine, Rampaul and Jason Holder are all fit and available. Yet they've been excluded from the Test Squad where they all belong. Perhaps one of them is recovering from a niggle but all of them?

Kieran Powell has never looked like a ODI player to me, it will be interesting to see if he can do a Alastair Cook and prove ppl wrong. Both Permaul and Tino Best are fortunate to be hanging around based on their 1st Test performance, both are unable to keep tight lines.

Ironically, Darren Sammy is no longer part of ODIs. He's a valuable limited overs player for WI, it's in Tests that he's perhaps found wanting. There's nothing logical about WI *sigh*

May be he is getting ready for the next edition of IPL.
