Sachin Tendulkar underwent surgery last month to treat an injury to his left hand, sustained during the Indian Premier League earlier this year.

He had flown to London for the operation and reports suggest he has looked comfortable practising at the Mumbai Cricket Association. Tendulkar is expected to make his final appearance for Mumbai Indians in the upcoming Champions League after being named in the 15-man squad.

"I had surgery on my hand for the injury I sustained during the IPL match in May. I have already started batting in the nets since the last ten days and am looking forward to the Champions League," Tendulkar said, according to PTI.

The injury had occurred in a match against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Mumbai when, after lofting legspinner Karan Sharma for a six, Tendulkar found it difficult to grip the bat and asked for the physio's help. He retired hurt and further checks revealed swelling in his wrist and around a tendon in the left hand. Tendulkar was subsequently ruled out of all the remaining games, including the final and, after Mumbai's victory, the batsman announced his retirement from the IPL.

Mumbai will play Rajasthan Royals in the opening match of the Champions League in Jaipur on September 21.

I grew up in Jaipur and don't live there anymore. It is a shame to miss the match played in Jaipur featuring Dravid and Tendulkar!

Champion League will be the platform where Sachin canl play his shots freely and loosen up his shoulders for the upcoming Test Series. I know there is a vast difference in facing a white ball and red cherry but still any good shot going for a boundary from the middle of the bat, will give him a hell a lot of confidence which is all the more important right now. I hope he performs in South Africa. I want to see him hit at least 2-3 more centuries before he calls it quits...

Have to give it to the man for having fantastic endurance levels. Hopefully, he can contribute to the Mumbai Indians one last time. The tour to SA will also probably be his last test series. All of this is an opportunity to savour Sachin's presence in the game.
