Herbert Edwards was educated at Winchester where he failed to make the XI but that did not prevent him making one appearance for Sussex against Kent in the 1908 Canterbury Week. He served in the army for more than two decades, winning the DSO while serving at Gallipoli. He attained the rank of colonel in the territorial army.
