Don Arnott was Rhodesia's regular wicketkeeper for almost a decade from the mid 1950s and was at one time on the fringes of selection for South Africa, summoned to Durban as cover for John Waite in 1956-57. His career ended early when he retired to concentrate on the family tobacco farm. Not the best batsman, towards the end of his career he was promoted to the No.3 slot and he responded with his only first-class fifty at the start of his final season.

He maintained strong links with the game and took up umpiring, again to great acclaim, and then became an influential administrator, and was the Zimbabwe board's first chief executive when the country gained Test status in 1992.
