It was the 1527th Test match in cricket history.
It was Australia's 611th and West Indies' 369th Test match.
It was the 95th match between these two sides. The record now reads: Australia 42, West Indies 31, drawn 21 and tied one.
It was the 57th match between these two sides in Australia. The record now reads: Australia 30,West Indies 18, drawn 8 and tied one.
It was the 317th match for Australia at home. Australia has won 169 and lost 85,while 62 matches have been drawn and one tied.
Umpires Darrell Hair and Rudi Koertzen were officiating in their 35th and 21st Test respectively.
Steve Waugh was making his 132nd Test appearance which takes him past the tally of 131 matches of Indian allrounder Kapil Dev. Now only Allan Border of Australia (156), has played more Test matches than Steve Waugh.
Mark Waugh was playing his 87th consecutive Test since the first Test against England at Manchester in 1993. With this he equalled the tally of India's Gundappa Viswanath. Now only Allan Border (153) and Sunil Gavaskar (106) has played in more consecutive matches than Mark Waugh.
Jimmy Adams, when on 5 in the first innings, completed 3000 runs in his 54th Test and 90th innings. He became 19th West Indian and 111th batsman overall to do so.
Among the 19 West Indians, only Carl Hooper and Jeff Dujon had taken more Tests and innings to reach this landmark. Hooper completed his 3000 runs in 58 matches and 97 innings, while Dujon took 69 matches and 97 innings to do so. Just for the information, Adams had a batting average of 76.92 when he reached the milestone of 1000 runs and 54.05 while completing his 2000 runs as against 42.25 when he reached 3000 runs.
The first wicket partnership of 147 runs between Sherwin Campbell and Wavell Hinds was West Indies' best for this wicket on Australian soil. The pair obliterated the previous best of 135 between Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes at Brisbane in 1988-89.
When Nixon McLean was dismissed without scoring in first innings, he achieved the dubious distinction of aggregating most ducks in a series for West Indies. This was McLean's fourth duck in the series. McLean, however, can take solace from the fact that he is not alone in aggregating four ducks in a series for West Indies. Four other batsmen have also suffered this ignominy. They are Sonny Ramadhin (v England in 1957), Joel Garner (v Pakistan in 1976-77), Ian Bishop (v Australia in 1996-97) and teammate Courtney Walsh (v Australia in this series).
McLean's duck also set a world record of another sorts. It was the 27th duck for West Indies in the series most by any side in a series in Test cricket history putting aside the previous record of 26 set by Australia in six match home series against England 22 years ago.This tally was later extended to 28 by Marlon Samuels' first ball duck in West Indies' second innings. The previous record of most ducks by a side in a five match series was held by South Africa. The details:

Steve Waugh scored his 24th Test hundred in first innings. He has now come at level with Australia's Greg Chappell, West Indies' Viv Richards and India's Sachin Tendulkar. Now only India's Sunil Gavaskar (34), Australia's Don Bradman (29) and Allan Border (27) and West Indian Gary Sobers (26) have scored more hundreds than Steve.
This was also his sixth hundred against West Indies which equals Doug Walters' Australian record of most hundreds. Just for the record, India's Sunil Gavaskar holds the distinction of scoring most hundreds in a career against West Indies 13 in 27 matches.
Brian Lara has now aggregated 2003 runs in 31 `lost' matches for West Indies. He became first West Indian and seventh batsman overall to do so after countryman Allan Border (2771 runs in 46 matches), three Englishmen David Gower (2581 in 42), Graham Gooch (2423 in 42) and Alec Stewart (2362 in 42), India's Sunil Gavaskar (2314 in 34) and Sri Lanka's Arjuna Ranatunga (2163 in 35).
Ridley Jacobs (288 runs and 21 dismissals) became the second West Indian wicketkeeper to perform the allround feat of 250 plus runs and 20 dismissals in a series. The only other West Indian to do so was Jeff Dujon who aggregated 305 runs and effected 20 dismissals in five matches against England in 1988.
Jacobs has now made 40 dismissals in nine matches against Australia which equalled the tally of Deryck Murray. Now only Jeff Dujon with 84 dismissals in 21 matches against Australia is ahead of Jacobs.
Steve Waugh has now won 16 matches out of 21 in which he has captained Australia - a winning percentage of 76.19. Steve now holds the top slot in terms of best winning percentage among the 48 skippers who have led their respective sides in a minimum of 20 matches. Don Bradman, with 15 wins from 24 matches holds the second position.
Australia made a clean sweep of the series by 5-0 margin. It was the third occasion of clean sweep in a five match series for Australia. The previous two occasions were against England in 1920-21 under Warwick Armstrong and against South Africa in 1931-32 under Bill Woodfull. West Indies at the other end was suffering this fate for the second time. It had lost to Hansie Cronje led South Africa in 1999-00.
Australia has now won 15 matches at a trot since the match against Zimbabwe at Harare in October 1999. At the other end of the scale West Indies has now lost seven matches in a row since losing to England at Headingley in August 2000.
