Hrishikesh Kanitkar, coming off a victorious Duleep Trophy campaign as West Zone skipper and a fine personal run of form, has been chosen to lead the India 'A' squad to Sri Lanka for a one-month tour.
Compared to the India 'A' side that undertook a long tour of South Africa, the squad for Sri Lanka has many new faces in it. The team will start the tour with a three-day match against the Development Squad (May 11-13). That match will be followed by three unofficial Tests (four days each) and three one-day games.
Yuvraj Singh and Mohammad Kaif, both of whom notched up weighty performances in South Africa, have not been named in anticipation of their selection for the Indian one-day team in the West Indies. Ajit Agarkar has also been omitted for the same reason.
Squad: Hrishikesh Kanitkar (captain), Rohan Gavaskar, Sridharan Sriram, Akash Chopra, Gautam Gambhir, Pravanjan Mullick, Parthiv Patel (wicket-keeper), MSK Prasad (wicket-keeper), Jai P Yadav, Vineet Sharma, L Balaji, Irfan Pathan, Murali Kartik, Sairaj Bahutule, Amit Mishra
