Injured Sreesanth out for five months

Sreesanth, the India fast bowler, will be out of action for five months as he needs two surgeries on his toes. He hasn't turned out for India since the Tests against England last August, and has only played one first-class match since, before picking up a toe injury.

Sreesanth had opted against going for surgery in December, instead preferring ayurvedic treatment. He had originally hoped to be fit in time for the CB series in Australia earlier this year, and had said at the end of February that he was looking forward to playing again in three weeks.

He had initially travelled with Rajasthan Royals this season before heading to the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore for his rehabilitation late last month. Royals had hoped that he would be back with the team after a week at the NCA but they will now have to do without the fast bowler this season.

The news of Sreesanth's injury comes a day after their allrounder Kevin Cooper was ruled out of the tournament due to a fractured knee.

he needs surgery on his mouth too:)

The last time he played for Punjab in the IPL they lost many matches because of him.... he was so expensive! He is more of a test bowler if at all..... Good talent but lack of attitude and dedication did him in. It is very tough for him to come back to the Indian side which has plenty of choices when it comes to fast bowling.

Out for 5 months?? no issue, take 50 months !!

Good luck Sree! You are a real talent and a match winner. Come back strong and win more matches for the country.

Future looking bright for Indian fast bowling department!!!

Ishant Sharma & Sreesanth out of the way, maybe there is hope for India.Just need to get rid of Raina & Dhoni now!

Great escape for Rajasthan Royals. Great escape.

when the point comes to genuine swing fast bowler..sree nd zaheer r the first choice..sree has got pace nd swing for the indian tracks..i hope he'll recover soon nd will in team..

Posted by   on (May 3, 2012, 14:44 GMT)

Sreesanth has to really work on his fitness & attitude....the current bowling crop is way far ahead in terms of favourability...age pace sreesanth has to be really spot on dis time if he wants to get his career back on track.....

Posted by   on (May 3, 2012, 14:28 GMT)

agree with raj sundarraman, muski, and many others who have written above. its sad that the only Kerala player in the Indian side after so long gets this kind of feedback. he is a classic example of why all professional cricket players need lots of mental fitness and toughness training as well as basic emotional intelligence training. they have great pressures o handle on a day to day basis and they must be well equipped to do so or else they are just sitting ducks when he next emotional onslaught arrives.

Posted by   on (May 3, 2012, 13:43 GMT)

I see many has this perception that attitude and antics can only be attributed to Auz / South African / English. Indians, Sreelankans and others are always "advised" to shut their mouth and "perform". Well.. the world order has changed my friends, swallow it!

Posted by Raki99 on (May 3, 2012, 13:19 GMT)

Career is Over.... Wow another kambli of indain cricket. Has a Talent but could not produce at the Top level.

Posted by   on (May 3, 2012, 11:58 GMT)

Attitude is Everything !!

Posted by krazzyking on (May 3, 2012, 11:02 GMT)

When was the last time India won a series WITHOUT sreesanth? :) Dear Sree, you could be a great bowler, only if you wanted to. Such amazing talent... hell, what i wouldn't do to get that talent.

Posted by   on (May 3, 2012, 10:57 GMT)

ravi shastri, harsha, nasser on air - Sreesanth has got the best outswinger he has seen over the years.......... Arun Lal on media - i dont want how many wkts he s getting?.... but his attitude on the field makes him the worst cricketer india has produced.......

Posted by vik56in on (May 3, 2012, 10:36 GMT)

It is a pity that cruel comments could be posted for someone who is injured.Sreesanth is a very good Test bowler who could bowl at a very good pace and has good swing movement. His seam positioning is one of the best in the world. He has won Test matches of his own vs S.Africa and Sri Lanka.Only Zaheer Khan in the present lot has more Test match credentials. His one day performances are not upto the mark though!

Posted by   on (May 3, 2012, 6:36 GMT)

Cricketers like SreeSanth should really thank IPL. If not for IPL he will be in some B grade Malayalam movies right now. A couple of good years earned him some decent contracts and hopefully he has saved up some and can pursue a different career. He is an example for the fact that talent alone does not take you too far. Poor attitude, misplaced priorities, unnecessary gamesmanship are all he is going to be known for even though he may have been one of the most talented.

Can't believe this kind of news made the headline of cricinfo main page. Oh I see now he played for might ol' team india. What a joke this is...ciao

Posted by muski on (May 3, 2012, 6:18 GMT)

After 5 months he can stop playing cricket and concentrate on his music band. After Kambli, it has to Sree who has wasted his enormous talent pursuing worldly affairs. Whether we like it or not, it is indeed a great loss to Indian cricket as well as there is no fast bowler worth the salt in our horizon.

Sreesant is a great player. His career graph went down after Bajji's slap

Posted by   on (May 3, 2012, 6:09 GMT)

I hope he doesn't come back. He is a very good 1980's shake dancer. He shld take up this career

Posted by   on (May 3, 2012, 6:06 GMT)

Guys, this was what Indian bowling coach Eric Simmons had to say about different bowlers:

Zaheer Khan:

He's a player with big skills and also has a huge role to play in mentoring the bowlers around him. He has a very good understanding of his craft and has an ability to teach those around him. He's working very hard to stay physically in top shape.

Sreesanth: I haven't met someone as yet with the skills of Sreesanth. He bowled a spell to the Australians in Bangalore when the ball was reversing and I felt that, maybe, there would be only one or two more in the world who could do what Sreesanth did in that spell. His skills are just phenomenal. Irfan Pathan: He's also an exciting player. He can swing the ball with some pace, hit the ball hard and is a good fielder. Nice to see him back and I'm excited about his game as well. At the end of the day it is all about a player embracing new skills and making sure he's moving ahead of his own game. In modern-day cricket, it's all about

An erratic performer, no need in indian team

Posted by   on (May 3, 2012, 4:58 GMT)

Really Good News for Indian team. lost more games because of him. im really disappoint, he says only 5 months. we except atleast 15yrs.

Posted by msankar on (May 3, 2012, 4:53 GMT)

ahhh.... Nice, good news for Indian & Domestic cricket!!!!!

Posted by kpatel10 on (May 3, 2012, 4:38 GMT)

Sreesanth, I know you have potential and also you are better than some the other bowlers. Don't take this discouraging comments seriously. Once surgery is complete, follow the advice of doctor's to get physically fit. I know if you work hard, you will be back in Indian team. Learn from your mistakes and try to comeback with better bowling skills. I wish you ALL THE BEST!

Posted by   on (May 3, 2012, 4:31 GMT)

Sreesanth is a Great Test Bowler than any other Fast Bowlers in India. Don't Estimate his Capabilities with his Childish Attitudes. Best Indian Bowler in South Africa and England

Posted by   on (May 3, 2012, 4:15 GMT)

In a country of 1.2 Billion people, there is only one bowler to come out in last 5 years who would meet international caliber and that is Zaheer Khan. All other are just club level Test Fast Bowlers. Sreesanth, good luck in your surgery. I hope you return to IPL and revive your career. Please stay away from tests. After Zaheer retires, what will come from India?

Posted by   on (May 3, 2012, 2:28 GMT)

Srisanth is always rated higher against his capabilities,I hope he never comes back and new talent will get to perform.

Posted by Rooroo on (May 3, 2012, 1:45 GMT)

Oh I cant believe we Indians are this fickle minded and can so much hate a 2 times world cup winner ( T 2o and odis) . Everyone remembers all the wrong things he has done and I don't support him in those moments but apart from that he has done great things which none of you who comment can even think of. Some few bright moments of Sreesanths career. RSA tour he took 18 wickets and was instrumental in our first win in RSA soil and also that infamous six of Nel. T 20 world cup semis he bowled brilliantly and was again a core member of the world cup winning team. A few thats coming to my mind now. Please never hate anyone. Learn to respect them.

Posted by   on (May 3, 2012, 0:08 GMT)

Since it has already been 6 months since he bowled and considering that he is assuming 6 months before surgery itwill take around 9-10 months so by then the domestic season will be over.. Hence other than the IPL he will bowl longer spells nearly 2 years after he last bowled... So I am assuming his international career to be over...

Posted by kj272004 on (May 2, 2012, 23:35 GMT)

One tight slap from Bhajji is all he needs!

Posted by   on (May 2, 2012, 23:08 GMT)

i think he does not deserve so much criticism...when fully fit, he comfortably is ahead of Ishant, Vinay in test matches...Aaron is yet unproven in Test matches so cant comment...

Posted by   on (May 2, 2012, 22:42 GMT)

well, who cares about shreesant...

Posted by siddhartha57 on (May 2, 2012, 22:18 GMT)

Now I see why Rajasthan has managed to win a few matches... If sree would have played then they would have competed with DC for the last place...although sad to see DC at the bottom of the table...

Posted by abhay8157 on (May 2, 2012, 21:57 GMT)

Great news .... He is unnecessarily over rated a bowler.

Remember the final WC 2011.. 8 overs -- 52 runs -- 0 wickets. If it was not for this guy.. we would have chased a less stiffer target... Just Yelling at opposition / making faces doesn't help.. you have to perform.. which this guy doesn't... Good Riddance!!

Posted by Nampally on (May 2, 2012, 21:43 GMT)

Sreesanth would have found difficult to compete against whole host of new fast bowlers like Yadev, Aaron, Dinda, Gony + P.Kumar, Vinay kumar,Irfan Pathan, ZAK. So Sree's absence will not be felt. Perhaps he should announce his retirement after a host of injuries dating back 5 years & continuing on!.

Posted by   on (May 2, 2012, 21:39 GMT)

Greattttttttt news. good bye

Posted by AnoMaLy on (May 2, 2012, 21:33 GMT)

Good riddance! Please remain injured.

Posted by on (May 2, 2012, 21:24 GMT)

If only this guy could tone down his crazy antics and puts that much work into his bowling we might have got a fantastic test class bowler , a genuine wicket taker , England series was the best chance to nail his spot in the team , with zak injured and condition that are perfect for swing bowling and he blew it (not that others including 'unlucky' ishant did any good, but ishant is younger and have the backing of seniors and coach)... hoping to see a new & improved sree soon, get well man..

Posted by   on (May 2, 2012, 21:21 GMT)

Shree has his hairdo and that helps him. He is a good test bowler and i hope comes in place of Ishant Sharma. He can't work well in ODI's

Posted by g_golu on (May 2, 2012, 20:43 GMT)

Best Wishes. from all of us !!!!.. Hope you get well soon and have a good life... Please don't look for a comeback.. we already have good fast men waiting... and dont need... Appam back in the concede more runs..... You can take rest and enjoy life...

Posted by abee12 on (May 2, 2012, 20:20 GMT)

i have suggestion for rajasthan royal they should buy a darren sammy on for sreesanth he is godd allrounder

Posted by ProdigyA on (May 2, 2012, 20:08 GMT)

I do like Sree and sorry for his injury but to be honest, him being out of action should not really make any difference. He had many crictics, many antics, never backed by Dhoni but i thot it was England. The perfect place, perfect setup, fast bowlers dream wickets to prove everybody wrong but he just blew it and blew it big time. Not 1 not 2 but 4 tests and you start to wonder may be Dhoni was right.

SREESANTH IS STILL PLAYING!!!!!! Anyways, nobody is gonna miss u. take u r own time to recover. don't rush back after the surgery. nobody is in a hurry to see u soon.

Lol,who cares's better if he's outta d team..

Posted by harbirbrar83 on (May 2, 2012, 19:48 GMT)

no body gonna miss him anyways.

Posted by   on (May 2, 2012, 19:37 GMT)

he has missed more games than he has played actually i guess its end of the road for him !!its sad but then he has himself to blame

Posted by Sriim on (May 2, 2012, 19:36 GMT)

Good news for RR... The two Singhs, Pankaj and Amit are already bleeding enough runs, both with the ball and in the field... Now, they escape bleeding through this seasoned bleeder named Sreesanth... And, more importantly, they can hold on to their lead in the Fair play award quite handily, now that Sreesanth isn't going to play... Happy for Rajasthan Royals......

Posted by Muzzammil_Shahid on (May 2, 2012, 19:33 GMT)

He will not come back again. The boys like the health He Got shouldn't be Fast Bowler they should be a picker.ball pickers on boundries.

Posted by Dravid_Pujara_Gravitas_Atheist on (May 2, 2012, 19:31 GMT)

Damn these injuries. Hope you have a full recovery.

Posted by Aristotle01 on (May 2, 2012, 19:25 GMT)

who cares anyway he is the indian equal of shoaib akhtar... all talk---no substance, many injuries, zero maturity levels, zero commitment to the game.

gud news for the rajasthan royals

hahaha....good joke this is as if he was playing all these days and suddenly he got injured.... :P

Posted by prakhar24 on (May 2, 2012, 19:12 GMT)

RR haven't good Indian bowler. Shree is best Indian bowler in RR team and he is unfit . Very bad for RR.

Posted by mukul_rawal on (May 2, 2012, 19:08 GMT)

there we go again!!! sree is agian injured . he is 30+ and still hasn't cemented his place as genuine fast bowler of india because attitude and injuries and its pretty sad to see a guy with so much talent has wasted it

Posted by suresh_lv on (May 2, 2012, 19:04 GMT)

Who cares..What has he done to the game ???. He doesn't get picked up in the team in the first place, and if by a remote chance he does, then not perform anyway.

Posted by   on (May 2, 2012, 19:01 GMT)

sad man ... u will never get back to team again... :) thought u would be playing this ipl atleast...that also gone... :) all the best for ur life ahead.. :)
