Nuwan Zoysa, the former Sri Lanka fast bowler, has joined the Goa Ranji team for a short stint as a coaching consultant. Zoysa, who played 30 Tests and 95 ODIs for Sri Lanka, is currently in Panaji, meeting the Goa squad as they prepare for the Ranji season which starts November 2. He will work with the squad for 10 days this season.

Goa and Zoysa were initially looking for a longer-term agreement, but with Zoysa already tied up with his assignments as coach of Sri Lanka's domestic side Nondescripts Cricket Club and assistant coach of Sri Lanka Premier League franchise Nagenahira Nagas, he wasn't free for a longer stint.

@ Tony Varghese. Agree! Plus if Venkatesh Prasad can be a bowling coach, anyone can ;)

Even if GOA had hired Sreesanth, it would still have made some logic . Zoysa is like waste of time , money and all

Goa???? Seriously? A bowler capable of such class act deserves to be coaching a better country & better side ! Just recently Chaminda Vaas got assistant fastbowler coach position for the Kiwis ! Zoysa will be wasting his time in these batsmen friendly flat pitches in India! What a shame!

Surely the most bizarre name for a team in the entire sporting world - the "Nondescripts Cricket Club". Might as well call themselves the "No names".

@AStyle..a great coach need not be a great player and a great player need not be a great coach.

@AStyle: In terms of coaching - I guess Sri Lanka would be great for spinners, India for batman and If you want fast bowlers and spinners, there's a country that really isn't that far away :-)

Seriously cannot understand the reason behind hiring a below-average Sri Lankan bowlers to coach a quality Ranji team from India. Even during his prime (if there ever was one), Zoysa was a trundler who just made up the numbers. Goa management could have easily hired a quality former fast bowler from India itself.

Nice to See SL former fast bowler as a coach. all the best Zoysa...
