Cheteshwar Pujara, who is part of India's ODI squad, has completed a triple-century for Saurashtra in their ongoing Ranji Trophy quarter-final against Karnataka in Rajkot, on the eve of the first one-dayer against England which is also in the same town. MS Dhoni, however, said it was unlikely that Pujara would play the first ODI.

"It looks very unlikely as of now because we have to see the whole batting line-up, the position he's ideally suited for and all those things," Dhoni said a day ahead of the first ODI. "As of now, it looks very unlikely. Let's see what happens tomorrow. If somebody gets unfit, we'll see."

As the rest of India's one-day squad practised at the SCA Khandheri Stadium, Rajkot's new international venue, Pujara resumed his innings on 261 at the Saurashtra University Ground and went on to reach his 300 off 356 deliveries on the fifth morning. His innings had helped Saurashtra secure their semi-final berth. He was eventually dismissed for 352 as Saurashtra closed made their second highest score in the Ranji Trophy.

"My plan was to get some practice for the ODI. Once I was set, once I scored my hundred I was in a positive mood and our team was safe," Pujara had said after the third day. "Even if I would have got out, we were still safe to qualify."

His inclusion in India's squad for the first three matches against England was his maiden ODI call-up, and it had come at the expense of Virender Sehwag. Pujara was India's best batsman in the Test series against England and was picked in the limited-overs team after India lost the ODI series to Pakistan.

@harmony111 - this my friend is a cricket, here ppl should be in a team if they are consistent and no place for emotions. Just because he played that one match does not make him a consistent player. He either needs to up his game or left out of the side.

My anger stems from the fact that he gets so many chances to prove like rohit but never performs and in the process, players who are scoring runs and are in their top prime never get a chance because these losers are bowling loose dollies and giving catch practise to opponent teams.

Posted by Al_Bundy1 on (January 11, 2013, 13:04 GMT)

Pujara would have been a perfect replacement for an out of form Kohli

Posted by Sajjid1992 on (January 11, 2013, 7:41 GMT)

If you look at the scorecards of 3 out of four Q-Finals you can judge the defensive mentality of the teams, they were not playing for victory, why Saurashtra prolonged their 2nd innings to 5th day the should declare when Pujara completed 250 and give Karnataka a target of around 500 but they play on because they know they are in S-final on 1st inns lead. Same in other two Q-Finals!!!

Posted by venbas on (January 11, 2013, 7:20 GMT)

Ya MSD probably wants only slouches who can work for the opposition...even after getting gobsmacked he still does not see the writing on the wall. Dravid is 100% right in saying that Dhoni quits ODI captaincy....

Posted by Nish_US on (January 11, 2013, 7:18 GMT)

Yuvraj, raina and Jadeja....... all three in the same team and no place for proper batsman like Pujara...

Its time to go to full time batsmen and bowlers.... you got to be exceptional to be picked up as an all rounder.... not a bits & pieces guy...

replace Jadeja with Ohja and Raina with Pujara

Posted by Nish_US on (January 11, 2013, 7:07 GMT)

So Dhoni proved that he is just headstrong and no one is man enough to ask him any questions..... How DARE to say someone in prime form and great technique cannot find a place in a team a full of bits & pieces crickets.....

Posted by Nish_US on (January 11, 2013, 7:04 GMT)

May sound un-patriotic, but I hope India loses so bad that it registers its all time low score in ODI... for the greater good.... looking at the tours going forward.. all on foreign conditions with bounce and movement......

Pujara must be in.

What are youngsters expected to do , when double century and triple century within a week cannot give space in team? Hail Indian selectors!!

Posted by Dravid_Pujara_Gravitas on (January 11, 2013, 6:11 GMT)

Shame! Real shame this. Pujara has been left out of the first ODI. The same batsmen that failed in the final ODI will thus continue their favourite hobby - causing misery to millions of Indians.

Posted by havocsat on (January 11, 2013, 6:03 GMT)

In 2015 WC what is Raina`s role going to be on Aussie pitches? N now with the 2 bouncer an over rule, one shudders!!! On flat pitches he is a giant no doubt but where does that leave us in Australia? But of course, he is Dhoni`s friend and belongs to Srinivasan`s CSK. Pujara walks into the side on merit. Flamboyance is no substitute for pure cricketing talent. Nepotism sadly has become the hallmark of IPL indian cricket. RIP Indian Cricket. May Srini dance on your grave.

Posted by aryan-is-dravid-fan on (January 11, 2013, 5:37 GMT)

Dhoni talks like he is still winning a lot and the team still possesses the likes of Dravid, Sachin etc. The team he currently possesses contains a failing, below-par Gambhir; and Ravindra jadeja - who is best suited to bat at number 4 or 5 but comes in behind Ashwin at No. 8. Rohit Sharma is not even part of the discussion. So we need to decide how long a rope Gambhir deserves, and is Jadeja really a better bowler than Amit Mishra or a better batsman than Pujara? But saying there is no room for an in-form youngster who will not be a liability in the field - is going back to the dark ages of Indian cricket. Very disappointing.

Posted by crindex on (January 11, 2013, 5:35 GMT)

Playing XI is in the hands of the captain and Dhoni is not impartial when it comes to choosing the playing XI. He will choose Rohit Sharma and Jadeja ahead of Pujara. What a shame.

Posted by   on (January 11, 2013, 4:42 GMT)

oh pls, how many more chances for Mr- all time failures aka Gambhir, Raina and Jadeja ?gambhir has been consistently poor in all 3 formats past world cup 2011 final barring three-four good knocks , raina is good in t20 but his ODI liability is in question and jadeja...least I say is better for sake of forum here! Pujara is currently one of the best Indian young batsmen and in future its gonna be himself, rahane and kohli who're going to take Indias batting ahead and he can bat at any number .I m a huge fan of dhoni myself and I love him as a batsman especially in ODIs , but hes nt doin anything good to his captaincy records by favoring his pals despite of their regular failures !

Posted by   on (January 11, 2013, 4:14 GMT)

Pujara deserves a place today... a double century and a triple century within the last two weeks doesn't give you a place in the final eleven, think of Pujara's frustration when he serves drinks for the rest of the mediocre performers in the team..

Posted by RufusTFirefly on (January 11, 2013, 3:25 GMT)

For goodness' sake get him in the ODI side. What is WRONG with Dhoni's brain?

Pujara could hold down any spot in the top six and flourish. Same with Rahane.

Posted by Nampally on (January 11, 2013, 2:04 GMT)

In the accompanying photograph, Pujara looks like Jose Batista, Toronto Blue Jays Home run slugger. Although Pujara does not hit too many home runs, he leads the batting average & scores centuries, double tons & triple tons galore. It is sad that Pujara plays for India where Politics come first & your performance is sacrificed for politics. No Selector or Cricket Captain in leading countries like Australia, England, South Africa will ever drop a batsman like Pujara even if a Bradman was in their side. This happen only in India. No wonder the Indians were down 29 for 5 - like a ton of garbage, against Pakistan.BCCI & the Indian Selectors, if you have any credibility, you must toss Dhoni out as a Captain & get some sanity back into the Indian Cricket team. A leader tries to get the best team on the field not get whitewashed shamelessly. Under MSD India got thumped by England & Pakistan on Indian soil. How bad should it get to fire such a Non-Leader who leads by Losing than winning!

Posted by   on (January 11, 2013, 2:01 GMT)

I think after his triple century in the 4 days Ranji match, Pujara needs some rest. I hope he plays from second ODI onwards at #3.

I hope that with the score of 29/5 and 92/5 in two ODIs against Pakistan, Dhoni has realized batters who supposedly 'fit' in the ODI scheme are proving rather 'unfit'.

I hope they Gambhir, Yuvraj, Raina perform better against Englad. If not, I think they should make way for other players.

Posted by   on (January 11, 2013, 1:39 GMT)

Almost any of our batsmen (other than the young and still inadequately tried out Rahane) can be replaced with Pujara, Mr Captain Dhoni! Lose your cool, we don't care; but don't lose your mind, as some one commented in this chain of comments.

Posted by Harmony111 on (January 11, 2013, 0:43 GMT)

@atheros: That is so bad of you to talk in such bitter tone for the man who did a lot to help us win the last ODI vs Pak. He bowled 10 overs for 19 runs, took a catch and also scored 26 runs in that match and you want him out of the team, in fact thrown out? You may not like Jadeja much but this is not the sort of language one should use for one's team-member.

Posted by   on (January 11, 2013, 0:15 GMT)

If Pujara doesn't get a single game this series dats just sad! He deserves it, and on the back of a triple ton too! Keeping him sidelined will only reduce his confidence as a oung cricketer..Rohit is given so many chances but Pujara is not given any! Wat is this! Australia are currently are having a great summer, and i reckon its because they are rotating and testing more youngsters! At the moment India have nothing to lose LOL

Posted by AvidCricFan on (January 10, 2013, 23:53 GMT)

I think Dhoni prefers Nohit Sharma over Pujara. This will be height of travesty. If Nohit Sharma is persisted, India will lose 0-5 or 1-4 against England too. Too bad that Pujara is no competition to Nohit Sharma in scoring under ten 90% of times he goes out to bat. This is what Dhoni wants. What is Yuvi's roles in the team? He rarely bowled against Pak and was ineffective in bowling and batting. Jadeja didn't do much with bat.

Posted by   on (January 10, 2013, 23:50 GMT)

Dear mr.dhoni, his debut at his home ground will guarantee a better result than picking someone else, as he is used to this ground and knows how the ball will play.

Posted by TMSer on (January 10, 2013, 23:44 GMT)

What is dhoni talking about?? Pujara fits perfectly into the playing XI. gambhir, rahane, kohli, pujara, yuvraj, raina, dhoni, jadeja, ashwin, kumar, sharma

in the longer term, if gambhir doesnt perform, his odi place has to be taken by murali vijay. In test, Mukhund is in the wings.

Pujara plays the Dravid role that was so crucial to india for many years in the anchor role for all the shot makers around him. Pujara has the added abiltiy to hit the boundary at will , along the carpet- hes a natural run-scorer. At least we know he wont hand his wicket over as part of a top order collapse.

all dhoni is doing is showing his short-sightedness and inflexibilty as captain.

Posted by atheros1672 on (January 10, 2013, 21:45 GMT)

Best possible India ODI Team: Rahane,Gambhir(1 final series if he still continues the bad form),Kohli (captain),Pujara, yuvraj, manoj tiwari, parthiv patel(wk),Bhuv Kumar/shami, praveen kumar, umesh yadav, ashwin, reserves: irfan pathan, dhoni (in team once gambhir kicked out-put this condition and see how quickly gambhir goes out),vijay

Best possible Test Team: Rahane, sehwag, pujara, kohli, sachin(hopefully for not too long),dhoni, ashwin, ojha, umesh yadav, praveen kumar, bhuv kumar/shami.

Here is a a crazy idea - why not dhoni open with rahane. I mean he did well at 1 down when he came into the team- his aggresive style might actually suit him at that position (183,143 etc scored from 1 down)

give more chance to bhuv, shami, kohli, rahane since they will be core for 2015 WC and please stop giving more chances to rohit, jadeja(total waste of a spot in the team),

Posted by atheros1672 on (January 10, 2013, 21:44 GMT)

Who to remove to add Pujara? Well thats easy to answer - Jadeja (hands down). Infact throw him out of cricket it will be a major new year gift from BCCI to the entire indian nation....

I mean what is his position really? a batsman who bats after Ashwin? Really? or a bowler who bowls part time - gets belted all over and takes a wicket once in a blue moon? or the coveted all rounder whose batting and bowling are the worst in the team at present?

There is enough evidence to say gambhir (in his bad patch period) has scored more per inning runs that jadeja(his entire ODI career). Compare him to the following list and see for yourself - vijay, parthiv, agarkar(not joking),bhajji(in batting),tiwari.. you get the point. now consider this who is worse than him - rohit and he gets ample chances too.

Now where is the strategy in that? where is the sanity in that? I am sorry Mr Dhoni, YOU HAVE NOT LOST YOUR COOL BUT YOU HAVE LOST YOUR MIND..

Posted by kalyanbk on (January 10, 2013, 21:38 GMT)

No doubt Kohli, Yuvraj and Raina have done good things for India in limited overs cricket. However did they score runs in the recent series? A captain should keep his mind open and play in-form players even if it means leaving out an established name. That too Rajkot is Pujara's home ground. There is no harm in leaving either Raina or Kohli out for one match.

Posted by Ribs on (January 10, 2013, 21:35 GMT)

MSD started doing his own dirty tricks again. He wants always only the players he preferred not the players those who are performed. If really some one thinking about Indian team's future need to remove MSD from the captaincy. If you want to include or exclude any player in the squad you need to use same scale. If entire team failed means in what basis you will drop only Viru. The player like Rohit not performed for a long time included in the squad always bit unfair to the others. The player like Manoj Tiwary and Pujara really talented youngsters always waiting. Anyone can tell me any other player except Rohit got this much opportunity in the past.

Posted by R_U_4_REAL_NICK on (January 10, 2013, 21:17 GMT)

The match was yet another boring draw and there were so many big scores made. Such bad captaincy by Shah to allow that innings to go on and on for so long and not declare, and at least try for a result.

Posted by   on (January 10, 2013, 21:04 GMT)

Is this a tactic? Dhoni stated that it is unlikely that Pujara will play. It is to just annoy the English who are not expecting Pujara to play the ODI until the morning of the day and then see him in the middle? I hope so. Or else, it will be a costly mistake. With none of the top order batsmen in any kind of form, why not give Pujara a chance, especially considering his current form. Virat, Yuvi Rohith all are expendable, for Pujara can be swapped with any of them.

Posted by Pacific Warriors on (January 10, 2013, 21:00 GMT)

I guess pujara is not from Chennai Super Kings. So Pujara cant fit in Eleven. This Indian team is with 4 (Forein like in IPL) chennai players. Dhoni should invite Murali vijay into eleven which is automatic choice which can fit eleven

Posted by vpk23 on (January 10, 2013, 20:33 GMT)

Pujara should play. Dhoni cut the crap and your gob. You are doing no favours to the Indian Team or the countyr. You are just the lead man in the cricket team. Nothing More. That's it. You were just playing for your place. You can fool the rest of the world maybe but not.. '.. '! Period! Now cut the crap and step down. The world won't end as the Mayans predicted.

Posted by Nampally on (January 10, 2013, 20:29 GMT)

@Dravid_Gravitas: Your comments about Dhoni are most appropriate. India will sink right down to the bottom with Dhoni's style of XI selection. He has his own favourites around him & wants to exclude everyone else if they do not talk the same language as him.If the best batsman in India does not get in the XI, what chance has India of advancing forward? Pujara is a rare talent India sees once in a blue moon. He is like a scoring machine in the class of Amla, Clarke & Cook. Whilst Tendulkar got overhyped as a youngster which advanced him into Tests, Pujara has been grossly under hyped & fans are even running him down. On Rajkot(his birth place) wkt. he scored a triple century in Ranji. He knows this pitch better than any other Indian cricketer. That alone justifies his inclusion. He has averaged 87 vs. England in Test- so has the confidence. He is only Indian batsman who can play seamers & spinners with equal ease Unlike Kohli, Yuvraj & Raina who cannot play seamers.Pujara @#3 is a MUST.

Posted by vpk23 on (January 10, 2013, 20:27 GMT)

Gentlemen...Pujara...Is the ideal man to be next in line for the captaincy.. At least in tests. Dhoni is a instictive person and knows all very well to whom he is going to loose the captaincy.. Dhoni's just trying to delay the inevitable..

Posted by   on (January 10, 2013, 20:18 GMT)

Dhoni sort of fell in his own trap! He wanted Sehwag out for a long time - but it wasn't possible to keep him out and rain in purely on runs coz both Raina and Sehwag were failing. But now it was acceptable to keep Raina in and Shwag out in a dead rubber against Pak.. he was hoping Rahane would end Sehwag's career and he can keep Sehwag in sidelines for a couple of series while Rahane establishes himslef and closes the door on Sehwag. However selectors saw his move and replaced Sehwag with Pujara who, in a fair world, is impossible to keep out. (But Dhoni, boneheaded as ever, refuses to budge).

If you want to accommodate Pujara, there are many lineups possible as explained by some commentors below - but you will need to chuck out Raina or Rahane. Chucking out Rahane after one match will not look good on Dhoni...

Really the problem is not Dhoni's batting or captaincy - but his stubbornness to take suggestions (or take in people!).

Posted by Dravid_Pujara_Gravitas on (January 10, 2013, 20:08 GMT)

@Nish_US, can't agree more with you. I don't understand why journos can't follow-up Dhoni's blatantly political answer with the question - "So, are you saying that one of the miserable batsmen has to get unfit for the best batsman in the country right now to find a place in the team"? By asking such a question, one can easily throw light on Dhoni's politics and the team's chamchagiri, politicking dynamics and Dhoni could have been easily cornered then and there when he gave that cannon-fodder answer.

Posted by   on (January 10, 2013, 20:08 GMT)

Not including Pujara could cost Dhoni the match. Pujara can easily replace Raina. Also Pujara should bat one down and so that way Kohli can come in when the ball is not that new.

yup...MSD sounds to be in good can he not with this wonderful recipe for disaster that he's cooked up and continues to dish out. this is how it goes... Seasoning: choose guys like Gambhir, Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina who are in the worst form n fitness of their careers...give them a million chances to fail. Then give them some more...ensures they remain consistent failures Marination: choose guys who are doing well. keep them aside for carrying drinks n other odd jobs. Once they go out of form n fitness they will be ready to add in Step 1 above in the near future Simmer and boil: Piss off veterans like Rahul Dravid, V.V.S.Laxman, etc (add Sehwag to this if you believe the rumours). Ensure they simmer with rage and finally boil over into retirement Garnishing: Add bits n pieces of the worst bits n pieces players in history...such as Jadeja, Ashwin Serve hot with comments that are either stupid or wierd...mostly both Voila...MSDs recipe for Indian Cricket's Disaster

Dhoni is trying of the two things -

"I do not care what you think, but I will do what I want" or "I am an idiot and so do not know what to do or say"

Posted by Dravid_Pujara_Gravitas on (January 10, 2013, 19:50 GMT)

I'm glad Dhoni is playing cricket instead of taking education seriously. Can you imagine a retard like him as our team leader in our company? Dear Oh Dear, worse still, can you imagine Dhoni as the coach of his school cricket team? That would be a night-mare! He wouldn't take the best batsman of his school into the team saying that the losers in the team are all fit (physically) and let's see if anyone gets unfit (physically). Nevermind the mental aspect of the losers and their wretched current form! hahaha..what a moron! The biggest of the retards would cringe at his stupidity. Is this dumb-head for real? Beggars belief that he has the gall to put a straight face while dishing out his stupidity. But, I'm sure Dhoni ain't any stupid. It's the chamchagiri and the hand-in-glove politicking that makes him dish out this kind of trash as a cover-up for the politics. Shame Dhoni! It's clear as crystal. Politics of the most rotten and sick kind! He will have a bright future in our Parliament.

Posted by Nish_US on (January 10, 2013, 19:49 GMT)

so one of the miserable players has to get unfit for the most successful and in-form batsman to find a place.... I feel like a complete IDIOT even to ask this question.

Posted by Nish_US on (January 10, 2013, 19:46 GMT)

How many days do you need to "SEE ALL THOSE THINGS". You never had any problem drafting jadeja directly into the test team, Rohit whenever he is selected - but for someone who is successful against the same attack few weeks ago when rest failed miserably - you have to see lot of things....

And whoever is present in person when he makes these rubbish comments, dont they have the guts to SHOUT out or ask how he can justify his statement?

Posted by NCP1 on (January 10, 2013, 19:43 GMT)

For a team struggling to score runs, Pujara should be included and some of the inconsistent performers( too many in this team) should be dropped for a while. Also this business of positions to bat is carried too far in one day and t20 games, it matters little as India have not been getting any runs at the top lately. Good batsman will bat any position, look at Dravid, Laxman, Ganguly, Sachin, they batted in every position 1 - 6. Dhoni can not build a team, he has become too political and frankly has not been successful as the old match winners from Saurav's team are disappearing one by one. A series loss to England is going to happen. Why is he not batting up the order?

Posted by Dravid_Pujara_Gravitas on (January 10, 2013, 19:28 GMT)

Guys, it's clear. Very clear that the underperforming players and captain have made the team their personal property. As such, any quality player will not be welcomed amidst them, as he will be a threat to their positions. Blatant Politics. It's agonising to note that the team is barely able to post decent scores and the captain says the best batsman in the countrly is unlikely to play because he has to look at the whole batting line-up, where he fits blah blah. Sicko! If you, the moronic king, aren't sure, then ask that level-headed kid as to where he wants to play in the batting order or just order him to play at whichever position you want him to play, since you are the captain. Instead of putting in any of these efforts, Dhoni is talking like a dumbo saying that he ain't got a clue where Pujara fits in. Get this into your sand bag (skull) that Pujara has to be in the team and then he will play in any position as per your orders. Talk of unfit players, look no further than yourself!

Posted by umangsagar on (January 10, 2013, 19:14 GMT)

ya ya, dont play him, he will score a lot of runs, then Mr. dhoni, how will u maintain your perfect loss records.....ruin the team more by selecting the sweepers of IPL chennai for India.....HUh..disgusting.

MSD is a good batsman, no question about it. But he proves every time that he is not a good CAPTAIN. A captain is he, who knows well about his team strength and weakness. But the stupid Dhoni dont know what his team's main weakness. He still believe that Gauti, Raina can do good for INDIA!!! Give any one rest and give a chance to Pujara. Its the time to rebuild your Team. You need not to worry about the number 1 position. But its necessary to look for the future. Plz Dhoni, Its not the time to check your luck. please play for your country and do what is best for Indian Cricket.

Posted by Al_Bundy1 on (January 10, 2013, 18:46 GMT)

This is why people say Dhoni is so stubborn. Play Pujara instead of Gambhir or Kohli. Gambhir hasn't done anything in a long time and Kohli seems to be completely out of form - a little "rest" will do him good. Our batting is more or less settled - what a joke!!

Posted by itsthewayuplay on (January 10, 2013, 18:35 GMT)

What's the point in picking him if he's unlikely to play. Players like Pujara and Rahane have waited and watched while India has transitioned from the Fab Four to the Undroppables. How can no-one know what his best position is. If they don't have a clue, has anyone thought to ask the player? Anyway, now is the time for rebuilding, get Pujara in the team anywhere, drop Gambhir and Sehwag and let's see how they get on.

Posted by   on (January 10, 2013, 18:19 GMT)

prodiyA and East_West - first of all Rohit isnt gonna be picked in the playing XI. Probably they will go with the last t20 line up: gambir, Rahane, kohli, yuvi, Raina, Dhoni, jadeja, Ashwin, Ishant, bhuvi and the shami guy. The only guy whom the mass can argue of dropping is gambir but Pujara isnt an opener. Kohli have done so much that he needs a run for his comeback. Yuvi has made the best ever comeback and who can forget his t20 knock (70 runs of some 35 balls). Raina had the starts but he couldnt get them going but has been electric in field. Sack Dhoni? really? our inform Odi batsman to be dropped? that is something baseless. so now you see why Pujara cant make an entry? the likely option is to replace raina but pujara gives you the stability so he atleast needs to bat at no.4. and dont even touch the 5 bowlers. with all these fielding restrictions gone were the days you could waltz with 7 batsmen.

I see several comments of Dhoni's heroics during matches with Pakistan. If Dhoni, Raina and Ashwin were in so good batmen and were in so good form, why Dhoni and Raina did not come to open the innings and Ashwin at number 3 and those who were not in form come later on? This Mr. Cool was waiting to get the ball older to go and stick in the pitch to show the selectors that he is the only one who is in form now. God bless Cricket in India.

Pujara completing the triple ton before the start of an ODI series is an excellent news. One could sense the goodwill that an young talent could be making his international debut in the middle of crisis. All is fine.

But has anybody noticed what did that triple ton achieved? Had the team won outright? Had they even tried to go for that? Sourashtra had a lead of 400+ runs at the end of 4th day. In stead of making a match out of it, they decided to take the safety route (Win by First Innings Lead) to the next stage.

We could blame BCCI for all the things that the indian cricket is currently going through. How the BCCI is supposed to develop/nurture the talent if the teams have these culture? They cant declare for a team now, can they?

The desire to win has to be an integral part of sportsmen. It can't come by dangling money, some diktats. Unless the Ranji Circuit appreciate the Winning, the Indian Team is not going anywhere.

If you can't get Pujara into the team after he's scored a triple just hours earlier, and only a few yards from the ODI venue then when will you play him?

But, let's not worry, Ravi Jadeja will definitely be in the team, he'll reward the selectors by taking the entire staff to his restaurant in Rajkot that he owns - everything on the house, so all's well boys!!

Here we go again with Dhoni's arrogance and keeping his buddies Raina; Jadeja; Rohit and Gambhir in the playing eleven. I stopped watching Indian cricket matches anyway. There is BBL to watch which is much better than watching Indians play. Isn't there anyone who can kick this guy out of Indian cricket team to save Cricket in India?

On dead pitches against schoolboys bowling our stars will score double and triple centuries, but the moment they are exposed to quality bowlers then they will not cross double figures. The same story will continue tomorrow too.

Pressure on Dhoni eleven after two warmups showed english struggle in bowling and batting departments against A level indian sides. Certainly, there is more respite for Dhoni eleven and they ought to take advantage first without pujara and then with him. Good thinking by Dhoni.

Posted by JustIPL on (January 10, 2013, 17:32 GMT)

Dhoni was man of the match against the top class bowling lineup of the world on two occasions if not still the best. He was under pressure from all nook and corners while he wanted to get rid of the seniors for so long. This has cost india a lot of pride. So, I will let Dhoni whatever he wants.

@Jose Puliampatta: I saw that innings, Pujara prospered by highly doctored pitch for an engineered result while english bowlers were still coming to the terms of the strange pitch. Lot of mind game was played by indian board before ahmedabad test. England also prospered in the second half of the match but later on pujara looked ordinary throughout the series. Let Dhoni experiement with his resources as Darren Sammy was allowed by windies.

ProdiyA - you took the words out of my mouth! well put! if I am a captain, i will drop myself to get Pujara a chance! Dhoni lost his mojo! gone were the days of being humble! infact Gambhir should drop himselfout along with Rohit! if these guys have any spine, they should realize they are NOT being productive! even Raina has become useless! I think these folks including Dhoni should LEARN from YUVI! this guy gone through a hell and now getting back to full health and playing as if this is the last game of his life whereas all others have been slacking! Viru has become a huge burden and thank god he is dropped! we have not given a chance to BARDI in any format..i bet Unmukt CHAND has better brains and on-field logistics than Dhnoi+Gautam combined!! Dhoni needs a reality check and should be dropped irrespective of his ODI rank!! this Indian team DOES NOT HAVE A SPINE! Pakis came and whipped us and left, whereas we still can't figure how to win a game!!!

I will be watching team England's progress with interest, and that of the young Indian bowlers. The saga of Indian batting in general with its blatant captaincy gambits from the Delhi b(r)ats and fake rockstars now feels like a terrible movie running on a mofussil bus. You hate to watch and you cant get down! I feel its more bad than good for India if any of Gambhir, Raina, Jadeja or Rohit succeed in this series. 2015 is not that far away now,and these star players are only going to add to our selection headaches next year.

Posted by TrueFactors on (January 10, 2013, 17:19 GMT)

I would say play matches between two Indian teams before any major tournament. We had this before. Like, India Senior, India Blue and India Red. My teams will be: India Senior: (Current Team - 12 Probables) Gauti, Sehwag, Kohli, Yuvi, Nohit, Raina, Dhoni, Jadeja, B Kumar, Ashwin, Ishant, Dinda India Blue: (Ranji/Irani Leads - 12 Probables) Dhavan, Jivanjot Singh, Pujara, Manoj Tiwari, Mandeep Singh, C.Gautam (WC), A.Nayar(AR), Sami, Ozha, Take other bowlers according to merit India Red: (Emerging/Talented players) Mukund, Rahane, U Chand, Rohit Sharma, Yashpal Singh (AR), WP Saha (WC), P.Rasool (AR), Chawla, Mishra, Take other bowlers according to merit

Let things flow in triangular tournament before selection of team.

"Cannot find place for Pujara" - You idiot we have been loosing matches over matches over matches playing the same dumb team over and over and over again. Playing ur good for nothing CHAMCHAS Rohit and Jadeja forever. If you cannot find a place for the current best batsman in the country, drop urself or even better make urself unfit by breaking ur bones. BUT FOR GODSAKE INCLUDE PUJARA. This guy is driving me nuts with his stupid excuses.

IMO Indian team for tomorow should be: Rahane Gambhir Kohli Pujara Yuvraj Raina Dhoni Ashwin Dinda Shami B. Kumar. but i think fletcher will go with jadeja instead of Pujara and Ishant instead of Shami. England Team should be: Cook Bell Pietersen Buttler Morgan Root Kieswetter Finn Broad Dernbach Tredwell. but england will most likely go for Patel for Buttler or Root(which i can't understand as he can't bowl, can't bat and can't field) and Bresnan instead of Dernbach

Posted by Raj12345 on (January 10, 2013, 16:35 GMT)

Hello Dhoni what you mean by unlikely and unfit. Your whole batsman except yourself is unfit. Since they can't win any ODI match. SO better bring Puraja otherwise don't select him. Don't make Puraja & Ranahe another Badrinath.

Posted by itsthewayuplay on (January 10, 2013, 16:29 GMT)

Irrespective of this triple ton Pujara should be included in the squad. The issue is whether India can open with both Rahane and Pujara as they are both suited to the longer format. I suppose it shouldn't really matter at the moment because this series was a golden opportunity to go with what will be the Indian team for the next 3-4 years and a great opportunity for future potential test players to get experience. Instead the selectors have stuck with Gambhir and Yuvraj, making the same mistake with Kohli as they did with the Sehwag Tendulkar etc. He's not been in form since August last year and has played plenty of games since then and underperformed. Either give him a break and let him play zonal cricket but don't let this be the start of the career of another undroppable player. As long has remained open, many players have come back better and more motivated after having s pell out of the side. There are as expected exceptions, such as Harbajan.

Pujara should get a chance , he can play the role of sheet anchor , he is stable , pragmatic and versatile ... can be a product who can sustain . Pujara can play the role of Dravid with his stability , enigma and prowess .... lets hope for the best . We all want him to be deliver , If Gambhir and Rahane falters early , he can be the front runner to glide the team to a balanced total .

Posted by Dravid_Pujara_Gravitas on (January 10, 2013, 15:44 GMT)

The king of excuses is giving hilarious excuses to bench Pujara. What does he mean by "if anybody is unfit, then we'll see"? As of now, are Gambhir and Raina fit? How about Dhoni himself? He has been unfit for years now? Fit - as being deserving enough to play international cricket. It is disgusting to note that a gully cricketer like Dhoni is in the team ahead of Dinesh Karthik or Saha and on top of that he can decide on the future of Pujara. It is saddening to see Gambhir and Raina in the team ahead of Pujara. What a joke! What a pity on Indian Cricket. Pujara IS captaincy material in Tests and ODIs and Dhoni doesn't want him close-by. It's that simple. Shameless politics! Batting let us down for a while now. Dhoni knows it clearly. But still, he is uncertain about an inform batsman's debut at his home-ground. What kind of a captain would actually do that? Only a politician with lots of calculations would do that. Picking Pujara should be a no-brainer. But not to Dhoni, apparently!

Posted by henchart on (January 10, 2013, 15:37 GMT)

Despite MSD's recent and frequent failures as a player and captain I dont see anything wrong in his saying that Pujara is not going to fit into the batting order for the Rajkot ODI. From Gambhir,Rahane,Raina ,Kohli,Yuvraj,MSD who should be left out to accommodate Pujara? Gambhir and Rahane deserve one last chance while Jadeja and Ashwin have got to play as spinners. If Gambhir /Rahane duo or even one of them is a failure then maybe Pujara can be brought in for Cochin ODI.

Posted by Big3BOSS on (January 10, 2013, 15:36 GMT)

Gambir (Was his fan once) and Rohit need to go and play Ranji to prove themselves. Unmukt Chand and Rahane should open . Kohli and Pujara to follow and then Raina , Yuvraj and Dhoni to follow.

So because he completed a triple century he should be out of the ODI team? This is a joke! Why was he included in the team then?

Posted by Nampally on (January 10, 2013, 15:25 GMT)

@Jose Pulliampatta:Well said. We have the so called "Top 5" batsmen playing for India without the ability to even defend their wkts. against the seamers like Junaid or Gul. How pathetic is that when #3 guy Kohli gets out to Junaid 3 times in a row whiloe scoring 13 runs in 3 innings. Gambhir has a rcord of failure as long as last 15 matches. Yuvraj & Raina are equally poor against pace. In this lot of players with worst batting record, Pujara, who averaged 87 in 4 Tests against the pace of Anderson, Finn, Broad & spinners Swann & panesar, cannot find a place in XI! This is traversity of justice. How can Dhoni talk such nonsense that only if some one is injured Pujara will find a spot in XI? A team with v.poor batting, who scored <200 in the last 2 ODI's! Pujara scored a triple century + a double century in Ranji in last 2 matches at S/R of over 90. Even Tendulkar does not have this record in his lifetime. So MSD, get real & try to play BEST Team India rather than Dhoni's Favourites.

Posted by JustIPL on (January 10, 2013, 15:21 GMT)

@Nampally: However, Pujara got hundreds and carried that to the first two tests of series against england, he failed miserably thereafter. Other talent has also been tried time and again. If you see then Sehwag, Tendulkar both scored hundreds in domestic cricket before england series but could not build on them when the real attack came. Obviously, the bowling lineups in domestic are not of that high standards and get hit around easily and Dhoni is right to not take them seriously. Also, england have lost two warmups while India have been spurred after pakistan series as well as the fact that england bowling is not of pakistan standard, he is hoping to win with the existing lineup minus sehwag and then add pujara as icing on the cake. Anyway, best of luck team india.

Posted by PMKKR on (January 10, 2013, 15:14 GMT)

Pujara should be taken in the 11 as he is in tremendous form, Dhoni will be wrong if he will not give him the chance. From the final 11 Gambhir or Virat must sit out and watch the game as both are not in a good nick.

Sachin never opened and his first game as opener after that he never looked back! Veeru was not opener either after he started opening! Pujara needs to open tomorrow especially in his hometown and his groud!! Dhoni you just don't get the mess you in buddy, do you?? Pity!

Posted by   on (January 10, 2013, 14:47 GMT)

Just looking at the Indian ODI batting line up, Pujara should walk into the playing XI without any doubt. We must understand that we need to play 50 overs and he would fit in the role vacated by Rahul Dravid. This man is in form and should be an automatic choice in the playing XI.

Posted by Nampally on (January 10, 2013, 14:38 GMT)

Dhoni said "As of now it looks very unlikely" regarding Pujara's chances. India's Top 5 batsmen have been so attrocious against Pakistan that it is a miracle that they are not all dropped.Kohli totalled 13 in 3 innings & victim all 3 times to Junaid. Gambhir,Yuvraj & Raina cannot play top class seamers like Junaid Khan. Rahane the new openers is unknown product. If Dhoni is comparing these batsmen to Pujara, then India needs to get rid of Dhoni as a Captain in all formats. Dhoni has benched really top class prospects in the past for dozens of games & has literally destroyed the development of any promising youngsters. Dhoni is the main reason that India's 11-1 slump in the Tests & getting beaten to Pakistan at home.Pujara is the best & most complete Indian batsman right now. He should be the first choice for the batting in any XI. He does not have to wait for injuries to get in the XI. Dhoni may be afraid of losing his captaincy to Pujara. Hence keep the threat away. Sad Politics!

Posted by LittleFinger on (January 10, 2013, 14:34 GMT)

You have got to play players when they are hot. A homeground debut for Pujara on the back of his triple ton at ODI speed, if that is not worth making room for him for, then I don't know what is. XI to be: Gambhir, Rahane, Kohli, Pujara, Yuvraj, Raina, Dhoni + 4 bowlers. Yuvi is good enough for 10 overs (with 1 or 2 each from Raina and Kohli). If they don't want to do that, then drop Gambhir for Jadeja and open with Kohli. As a long term 1-drop bat, he needs to be used to coming in early. Plan for the World Cup, mandarins!

Posted by Pankaj36 on (January 10, 2013, 14:15 GMT)

If you are not going to play him, then atleast release him to play Ranji Semifinal.. Don't keep such a talent away from action, don't keep him in team to warm the bench only.. This mistake we have already done for Ajinkya Rahane..

Posted by gopivissu on (January 10, 2013, 14:13 GMT)

Sachin, Sehwag started as middle order batsmen only. They are not even number 3 for their state teams. They were succeeded in international cricket after becoming openors. If you see Pujara comes at 3 in test cricket means he can face new ball very well. I feel he is the best man for 2 or 3 positions.

@Jose Puliampatta on (January 10 2013, 13:12 PM GMT) : 1. After seeing the recent trend of Indian team Management ,it is very unlikely that they will drop Gauti from first 11 given that He is in 15... What i feel is that ,These 3 Matches are Very much important for him,If failed New player will get chance.. 2. Gautam have recently 1 Poor ODI series against Pak so does all the batsman Except MS Dhoni,But before this Particular Series He had Scored more than 250 Runs in a 5 match series against sri Lanka. May be he is very poor in test matches recently, but He is a wonderful ODI Batsman IMO..

Posted by   on (January 10, 2013, 14:04 GMT)

Mr. Dhoni you are joking right. Havent you learnt that we are having difficulty in playing 50 overs. We have enough hitters in the team who wont survive on a bowling track or against a very good attack like England. You need Pujara in the team to play an anchor role. Please drop Rohit, if possible drop Gauti too he has be volatile for a long time.

Just by sheer talent & weightage of runs, Pujara is miles ahead of most of the players currently in the squad. However, if as usual MSD has to wait for our team to fail in order to play Pujara in place of Gautam/Raina/Yuvraj/Jadeja then I guess we better give up hope that this team is going anywhere. Farcical !

What a joke Dhoni is talking about. He always find a place for rohit sharma but can't find place for pujara. Moreover its time to give amit mishra a run. he can bat and pick wickets too. he was among wickets and scored a double century in ranji trophy. Ahmed and Kumar shsould retain their position and Ishant's back in form is a big positive. an Ideal 11 would be Gambhir, Rahane, Pujara, Kohli,Yuvraj, Dhoni(C/WK),Raina,Ashwin/Mishra, Bhuvneswer, Ishant, Ahmed ... its not that difficult when intent is there. i guess Dhoni is not having any intent to play pujara as he might shut the doors for rohit sharma

The selectors should sack underperformers no matter who they are, be it Gambhir/Yuvraj/Raina. It's "perform or perish". For Gambhir, this series has to be the last chance. Yuvraj should bat slightly down the order at 5 because of the new rule of two new balls. We need solid players like Pujara and Kohli at 3 and 4 to prevent batting collapses against the new ball.

XI for Champions Trophy 2013: Dhawan, Rahane, Pujara, Kohli, Yuvraj, Dhoni, I Pathan, B Kumar, Ashwin, Nadeem, Yadav Reserves: Mukund, Rayudu, J Saxena, Dinda

Posted by   on (January 10, 2013, 13:12 GMT)

Drop Gauti immediately, and replace him with Pujara in the playing XI. The batsmen in the current playing XI lack stability. Pujara will provide that solidity, very well. He will be like Amla for South Africa, or Cook for England.

@shashankqvivek on (January 10 2013, 07:28 AM GMT) - Featured comment.

You want Pujara to wait for the "failure" of someone like Gauti to get into the playing XI.? Laughable comment! As laughable as Dhoni's misplaced view that the batting unit is more or less settled, and there is no immediate vacancy for Pujara.

Where were you, when Gauti was consistently failing his team, either playing on, or poking the ball into the hands of the close-in fielders? He had also been lethargic in the field. In recent times he also exudes negative energy, even in the field ( let alone in the dressing room).

Posted by   on (January 10, 2013, 13:10 GMT)

Pujara will be dead tired and so it makes sense to rest him for the next 5days.We should start managing the workload of players like MSD and raina who have been playing non stop cricket and in fact will do so till they retire thanks to IPL and CLT20.Australia managed to rest Hilfy, watto and sidd during the protean series. We should manage a pool of fast bowlers and spinners and rotate them accordingly so as to win more games. I am happy with the selection and we will do well in this ODI series, but we need to focus on regaining the test credentials we once had.Improve pitches and bowling coaches.

Posted by Criketanand on (January 10, 2013, 12:28 GMT)

with most of the starts flopping if we still cant find place for inform batsman then when will we find it. he is not an opener so probably not that position. kohli is good but not against moving ball so probably he should drop down by one spot and pujara takes that spot or dhoni comes in at that spot. yuvraj again is useless against moving ball or spinning ball but still can play if needed. raina , if u r thinking about 2015 world cup will be useless in those condition so why not drop him and send him to play first class cricket in england/SA/australia or NZ which will be useful in the long run for him and india jadeja again is not a very good batsman or a good bowler and again wasting a space so that is how u fit a good batsman , i.e by taking out not so useful batsmen and replacing them by a good one

Why people asking to sack Raina & Jadeja to accommodate Pujara in th eleven? Raina is the most valuable player in the Indian ODI team after Dhoni.Jadeja played well aginst PAK ,If he played the first match aginst PAK i am sure we will be the winners 2-1 and Yuvi also played very well in the last match he got a ripper from Md.Hafeez and aginst England he is going to be the best bowler again. If you want to accomodate Pujara that should be instead of Gambheer or Rahane ,Rahane is not that much worthy he is having only one good performance aginst England in Mohali (91) he dropped an easy catch of Md.Hafeez in the last match.

One more thing I want to make it clear here friends is that the Indian team management are taking the fans for granted. Itz because of us that they are so hansomly paid and become superstars. How many of us know even the names of half a dozen of players from Indian hockey and soccer team, no one does. Hence, for making our self counted we must teach the lessons to these cricketers by no going to watch these players in the stadiums as well as on tv. Because how many games we loose and how much we critisize, the stadiums are jam packed. We the people have to take the responsibility to show what does the spectators means to any game.

Posted by   on (January 10, 2013, 10:42 GMT)

i surely dont see the need for ravindra jadeja in the team considering the fact that after a comeback, whenever yuvraj and jadeja have played together (maybe 4-5matches of ODI and T20a) yuvraj has bowled better than jadeja varying his pace and length whenever the team needed a change and taken more wckts... Its a totally different argument if he can do it in regular basis. He is still an asset to the team... clearly i dont see y jadeja should make his place in the team. however, pujara should be playing in at 3, yuvi at 4, virat/dhoni at 5/6 considering the situation of the game and raina at 7. whenever Irfan pathan returns, he is automatic No 8 and ashwin No 9. based on the conditions, B KUMAR, Umesh yadav, Ishant sharma, shami ahmed can be rotated and kept match fit. HI TIME this pace battery gets proper treatment and rotation cuz WC - 2015 need more pacies than spinners in Australia.. we all can only talk...upto d wise men of BCCI to decide and take wise, prompt and worthy action!!!!

As vs England we dont need 3 pace bowlers.

Posted by   on (January 10, 2013, 10:16 GMT)

Gambhir has done decently on ODI in last 1 year(average above 40) and also won some matches, the last i can remember was in Australia. He should not be dropped and Pujara should not be selected for 1st 3 ODIs against England but the batsmen should be told upfront that the worst performing batsmen in the 1st 3 ODIs will be replaced by Pujara.

Rajkot - What a ground it is.. You can amass 300+ in tests easily and 200+ in ODIs equally. Take nothing away from Pujara though.. He is a very good potential. But Saurastra should have done something to the game by declaring sometime. Their batsmen will surely have a good practice but what about he bowlers? these guys are just killing the flavor of the system.

Posted by pandez on (January 10, 2013, 10:08 GMT)

players in the team fear players who scores run so dhoni wont let pujara get opportunity quickly as it will put extra pressure on the out of form players cz once pujara gets chance he will score.worse thing which happened to indian cricket was the win against pakistan in the last game which put curtains on poor performance of the team.

Posted by Ganapati9 on (January 10, 2013, 10:06 GMT)

Pujara should play in the place of Kohli who is getting many chances without doing anything substantial. He is also living on past glory.Gambhir who is getting his umpteen +1 chance should also be dropped in course of time and replaced by Shikhar Dhawan or Murali Vijay.Considering that he keeps on repeating the same mistake I would not be surprised if he again fails against England.

Posted by   on (January 10, 2013, 9:53 GMT)

Pujara should open. In ODIs, a lot of non-openers, like SRT, Gilchrist, Wade, Amla, Kieswetter, Ian Bell, KP etc have opened successfully. Gambhir, Rahane & Sehwag all deserve to be dropped so in fact Mukund & Pujara can open.

Posted by mpeer on (January 10, 2013, 9:45 GMT)

bring wasim jaffer as opener

Posted by   on (January 10, 2013, 9:44 GMT)

So lets get this clear in my head. Indian batsmen (based on their current form) are useless, yet one that is scoring triple hundreds and proved his worth in recent tests can't find a place in team... I am confused, perplexed, gob-smacked, dazed, .... Let me try again; because Pujara has this unusual (or rather unwelcome) ability to score runs. This somehow does not fit well with the strategy of the current team... I am still not getting it! Can anyone explain? Or lets try again to understand it one more time....

Posted by   on (January 10, 2013, 9:16 GMT)

i feel rohit has to take some rest and plan some other things than cricket as pujara is the right medicine for Indian team....

Posted by Ayush_Chauhan on (January 10, 2013, 9:16 GMT)

Both Pujara and Rahane should play, though I think we have a clear spot for Rahane...I don't know who Pujara will replace though....with Jadeja doing enough the last time around, either Yuvraj or Raina would have to fail for him to get a chance by the 3rd ODI...though I would rather see him instead of Raina...

Posted by DaisonGarvasis on (January 10, 2013, 9:12 GMT)

He should take up Gambhir's place. When was the last time Gambir won a match for India?

Posted by Shhy on (January 10, 2013, 9:11 GMT)

@Dravid_Gravitas.. FYI, Gambhir's ODI average in 2012 is more than 40.. Raina has performed his role perfectly up until last year.. Bad performance in a series and you want to drop them? Check facts before you call someone to be dropped..

Posted by   on (January 10, 2013, 8:44 GMT)

Whats the use of Raina in the ODI team. When was the last time he scored a century to bail his team out of trouble? Let Pujara bat three with Virat at 4 and Yuvi at 5.

Posted by Mr.Infinity on (January 10, 2013, 8:42 GMT)

I think this is a right time to get him in squad. Rohit Sharma got enough opportunities. So Pujara can get 4th spot and other can be pushed down one spot.

Posted by   on (January 10, 2013, 8:38 GMT)

Pujara & Rahane should open the batting in tomorrow's ODI. Gambhir should be benched to provide he opening for Pujara.

Posted by   on (January 10, 2013, 8:35 GMT)

I dont feel Raina has to go.. He is still contributing and he is in form and has great future.. Pls dont say that. Gambhir can go and leave space for another young talent

The Batting Engine for the Indian team.

Posted by   on (January 10, 2013, 8:24 GMT)

best time one can ask hi to bat for India in one day format,he is the best run getter in last few years in domestic circuit,we hope that selectors and dhoni give him reward for such a beautiful display

Posted by Dravid_Pujara_Gravitas on (January 10, 2013, 8:08 GMT)

Gambhir and Raina had enough chances given to them. At least one of them has to go. Period! Pujara is in the form of his life, from the looks of it. He should get his rightful place in the middle-order with Kohli opening along with Rahane. Pujara played well in the opening slot when Gambhir wasn't available in one test match and when as usual Statchin was hiding at his favourite no.4 position. Pujara for the win! Way to go. Cheers! It would be a travesty if he doesn't get his rightful place in the final XI.

Congratulations !!!

Great knock. Makes all of us so happy.

But also i wonder that the other guy, Jadeja, didnt he score two triple centuries in the domestic matches and be at par with Don Bradman ? This guy was not impressive at all on the Australian tour. He was pretty average against Pakistan also, though he got wickets.

I mean our bowling attack at the highest level is no secret, Then what kind of attack can we expect in the domestic competition especially when the main players are busy with international matches.

Thought Pujara has proved himself against England in the Test series. And i have no doubts about Pujara's abilities, but all that i am saying is that i do not want to read too much into india's bowling attack.

Oh Well, Now He will show up a tired (flop) on his debut (:-

I wanna see gambhir-pujara combination for the 1st ODI...just exactly like this.

Posted by shankar_boys_Palani on (January 10, 2013, 7:30 GMT)

Pujara is in the form of his life. So, let's hope that he gets a chance tomorrow in playing 11 and rocks!

All the best to Pujara & our Indian team for the 1st ODI.

Posted by moBlue on (January 10, 2013, 7:26 GMT)

play him, dhoni! drop gambhir or raina, but play him! he is in the form of his life, for crying out loud!

Posted by   on (January 10, 2013, 7:11 GMT)

Leave rohit and jaddu out I don't known why people think yuvi not out of form wait n watch and talk after the games

Posted by Haleos on (January 10, 2013, 6:58 GMT)

happy for pujara but the captaincy is negative. They should have tried for victory. This is the precise reason India is negative on international stage and does not win enough matches.

Posted by balajit on (January 10, 2013, 6:51 GMT)

He should play the match. It is that not he has to travel a long way before reaching the match venue. Also it is important to play form player rather out form players.

Still feel it would benefit India if pujara opens with Rahane!

But knowing the way Indian team management works it would be a major surprise if he plays.

Also the article says settled middle order. Settled really? Big name players but out of form.

Posted by   on (January 10, 2013, 6:48 GMT)

Can Pujara open the innings with Rahane? If so, that will be the good option for England Series.

Posted by   on (January 10, 2013, 6:41 GMT)

congrates to "the run machine" pujara for his triple hundred. hope he'll play well tomorrow also against eng.

Posted by avani on (January 10, 2013, 6:41 GMT)

I do not understand why Saurashtra is not declaringlittle early as soon as Poojara completed 300 and give him some rest before the ODI tomorrow. He himself would have given up the batting once Suarastra is ensured to be through. Now he will be damn tired !

Posted by   on (January 10, 2013, 6:40 GMT)

If the team management has any positive approach, they should drop Gambir and allow Pujara to continue where he left his innings for Saurashtra. He has been batting for the last 2 days and he would be in the best position to see the ball well rather than Gambir gropping and prodding the ball to make some 30 odd runs... Let Rahane and Kohli open the innings with Pujara coming in at No.3..

Posted by Vsid on (January 10, 2013, 6:36 GMT)

Leave yuvraj out he drop catches bowls poorly and out of form in odis.also leave gambhir and ashwin out.raina one more game kohli one more series

he is definately a misile to watch out for in ODI !!!
