shami ahmed and iswar pandey and zaheer can be a good seam bowling attack against WI.

For Overseas Matches, India need Young batters, who are strong on back foot. Only Samsan and Aparajith fits the bill here.

    Legacy of Sachin Tendulkar:

Last ODI match - WON against Pak Last WC Match - Won against SL Last WC - Won Last T20I - Won against SA Last IPL Match - Won against Hyd Last IPL - Won Last CL Match - Won against RR Last CL - Won Last Domestic FC match - Won against Haryana

So now I hope Sachin's last and his 200th Test also will be a Win

I m not sure the Double Centuries scored by ALL YOUNGSTERS (No one is more then 23 years Age!!! & Satyam Choudhary being 23 and others below 20 years of Age!!!) is a great knock? Particularity they were scored against the weak bowling attacks such as S Choudhary vs Railways, B Aparajith vs Services (Just promoted from group C); then S Samson vs Assam and V Zol vs Tripura from group C. But for the moment we should admire them that they have the talent as well as temperament at this young age but we shall wait for a time to nurture them by playing against Visiting International teams and sending them to A tours to SA, Aus, NZ, Eng and WI. They have to toil hard for an year or so before being picked for national team. What others think?

Wake up selectors. Ajay Jadeja can make a comeback in Ranji. But donot go back to Zakir, Ishant etc. Have Rishi, Sami, U.yadav as your pace battery. Test a leg spinner as WI are always bunnies against leg spin. Are you hearing???

If Indian Team for W.I series is declaring on the basis of current form and performance in first round of ranji matches, it should be like; Choudhary, Dogra, Zol, Sachin Tendulkar, Mandeep, Aparajith, Samson, Rishi Dhawan, Dhruv, Zaheer and Pandey. Plus Bumrah, Harbhajan, Rahane (Rahane's performance is very impressive in both innings than any other big centurions)... How's it???

friends, All are mentioning about kerala's rise along with sanju and add one more amazing guy to that Nikhilesh Surendran. He is a record holder when he was just 15 and amassed 334 not out during u-16 interschool tournament held in hyderabad in a 43 over match.

  • POSTED BY on | October 29, 2013, 9:45 GMT

  • POSTED BY on | October 29, 2013, 9:10 GMT

Why not Baji in the team , In the current form he pack WI batsmen within 3 days. He got six already in the ongoing renji . We must think in terms of picking up the best XII !

  • POSTED BY king_julien on | October 29, 2013, 9:05 GMT

and how could I forget..... Baba Aparajit also :)

  • POSTED BY king_julien on | October 29, 2013, 9:04 GMT

Lets not bring Rohit into the debate here and spoil the experience.....I am here (and few others also i presume) to check some of the promising youngsters (Rohit already has spent 7 years in Indian team). I have been following Vijay Zol, Sanju Samson, Manpreet Juneja etc. for some time. Good to see two of them making centuries......and hoping to see some new bowler do well.

  • POSTED BY RAKKKAAA on | October 29, 2013, 8:46 GMT

    baba aparajith should b given chance....my team for south africa n tours after that is as follows: 1.gambhir/m vijay 2.dhawan 3.pujara 4.aprajith/R sharma 5.kohli 6.dhoni 7.jadeja/raina/rahane 8.bhuvi 9.ashwin 10.zaheer 11.U yadav/I sharma

i think jadeja can't bat at no. 7 outside subcontinent & same with raina..so chances should b given to either rahane or aparajith or someone like zol,samson...

india always do the mistake lyk those who are performing in odis or t20 dey automatically come in india's test team also..dis should b changed..look how south africa n england manage their teams...

  • POSTED BY RAKKKAAA on | October 29, 2013, 7:45 GMT

  • POSTED BY on | October 29, 2013, 5:46 GMT

Please stop backing Rohit, wasting one place in international side. let him play for Mumbai. Hi Ravishastri support everyone, don't support only Rohit. Out of 100 innings hitting one 100, not a talent.

  • POSTED BY jimbond on | October 28, 2013, 13:19 GMT

@surepush: Rohit sharma has not got 100 chances. In fact, till now he has 0 (ZERO) chances in tests.

  • POSTED BY on | October 28, 2013, 13:11 GMT

Yes, I missed Vijay Zol, & Sanju Samson; when I referred to players like Unmukt, Aparajit, Kaleraia, Smit Patel & Bumrah as special players who should be under the responsibility of a designated person, for their all-round development.

They are the backbone of India's future national cricket teams.

  • POSTED BY on | October 28, 2013, 13:05 GMT

    @Soundar Rajan on (October 28, 2013, 10:53 GMT):

Rush Kaleria, all of 20 yrs old, just took 5 wickets. & Bumrah, who is under 20, took four!

  • POSTED BY surepush on | October 28, 2013, 13:04 GMT

It seems Baba is seeing the ball like a foot ball,

Form of his life, should be fair to give him a chance,

If Rohit gets 100 innings to prove atleast the youngster deserve a chance

  • POSTED BY on | October 28, 2013, 13:01 GMT

The current U-19 ODI World champions have more than Unmukt to rave about. Baba Aparajit, Rush Kaleria, & Smit Patel, all just below / above 20 are making waves. (Did I miss any?). Now it is up to BCCI to nurture & develop them.

Same is the case with Bumrah, who though very raw, looks extremely talented too. He seems to be focusing on pace. He has a few rough edges which need some 'polishing'. Hope, Captains don't convert him into yet another line & length medium pacer.

I am amazed at the number of very talented boys, under 23. I Think, BCCI need to have a specifically assigned person, just to focus on guys (in this particular category) and help them in their all-round development; covering beyond cricketing skills.

A new batting prospect for India, yet again.... But what about the bowling dear!!! How much time we would depend on theIshants...!!!???

  • POSTED BY on | October 28, 2013, 11:33 GMT

@Sounder: just watch bumrah figures in the ongoing gujarat match.

  • POSTED BY on | October 28, 2013, 10:53 GMT

As we are watching 19yrs old B. Aparajith making double hundred in Ranji, my question is that when can we see a debutant young fast bowler taking 5wkts in a innings in Ranji?!!

  • POSTED BY on | October 28, 2013, 10:42 GMT

i hvnt seen rush kalaria....seems to be good prospect.....baba aparjith should very soon be introuced in test cricket....the earliar he gets to face the world class bowler the stronger he would become...no matters if he fails in few initial steps...but the experience gained will b very fruitful for future test cricket....south africa tour should see baba's name in the squad.....vijay zol..and sanju samson ....definitely are a supreme prospect for future ......fast bowling still remains a issue....and a quality leg- spinner with some batting skills are what my eyes are searching for.......

  • POSTED BY on | October 28, 2013, 10:33 GMT

Any player can become consistent if they are given chances like Rohit Sharma.

  • POSTED BY on | October 28, 2013, 8:46 GMT

Looks like with One legend (SRT), another (Baba Aparajith) is waiting to emulate him. Good days for India. I think he should seriously be considered for the #4 straight away - after the legend retires!

  • POSTED BY switchmitch on | October 28, 2013, 8:31 GMT

Haryana have turned out to be quite a thorn for Mumbai. They negated the famed fast bowlers and now are feasting on the spinners and part timers. Another hour of Sunny and Dewan will place Mumbai in serious trouble in this match.

  • POSTED BY mcs81 on | October 28, 2013, 7:29 GMT

What consistency from Baba Aparajith at such a young age..Wish he goes on to play for India in the next 2 years!

vinoop manoharan made a nice debut for kerala claimimng 3 wickets and blowling 38 overs economically, the blog looks dry, i was a active participant of blog last year

  • POSTED BY on | October 28, 2013, 6:22 GMT

Yesterday's affliction of less on the games seems to be making a bit of a return in the last 15 minutes. Keep up the discussions, but please don't forget its a live blog on the Ranji Trophy, and the actual cricket being played matters along with general comments. I am willing to put it down to the approaching or actual lunch time break for now......

  • POSTED BY on | October 28, 2013, 5:42 GMT

All these talk of Joginder Sharma for tests, it's just a non-starter. He bowls around a pace of 120, the likes of ABDV and Pietersen will have him for breakfast, lunch and dinner!. If we are to look at seam bowling all-rounders, I think the focus should be on Rishi Dhawan, the promising youngster from Himachal, or if he regains form and fitness, Irfan Pathan. Abhishek Nayar could be a good call for limited over games.

  • POSTED BY jimbond on | October 28, 2013, 3:27 GMT

And I would not be too impressed about Harbajan's performance. Let him do it consistently against better Ranji sides and then possibly he can be thought about as a prospect for the higher level. Another factor is the number of doosras he bowls when international match referees are not present. I am curious to know how many of the wickets in this match were from Doosras.

  • POSTED BY jimbond on | October 28, 2013, 3:21 GMT

Aparajith is proving that he is already better than his Ranji team mates- even if he is still some way from being considered as a specialist batsman for India. Hope he improves his bowling also. Considering that he is in the Ranji team, I am surprised by the Tamil Nadu team composition. They have five bowlers apart from Aparajith. Because of this, Aparajith would hardly get to bowl. Hardly the best situation for a guy wanting to make it as an allrounder.

  • POSTED BY shukurbasha on | October 27, 2013, 13:20 GMT

For the first time 'm disappointed with Cricinfo for such a live blog for Ranji. How sensational the previous one was. I was expecting the same but really disappointing this one is..

  • POSTED BY Arunviz on | October 27, 2013, 12:06 GMT

We need to include Baba Aparajith , Abhishek Nair and Mohit Sharma in place of Ravindra Jadeja , Suresh Raina and Ishanth Sharma in TEST Squad of team India .

  • POSTED BY on | October 27, 2013, 10:49 GMT

Good to see more meaningful updates on the game towards the end of the day. The comments and discussions are good, but there has to be more updates about the game beyond the scores.

  • POSTED BY on | October 27, 2013, 9:26 GMT

Is it a live blog on the Ranji Trophy or a section of live comments? Please, can we have a bit more on the games? Or haven't you got anyone else other than Abhishek Purohit at the grounds? Don't lets us down like this, cricinfo.

  • POSTED BY on | October 27, 2013, 7:43 GMT

The blog, I am sorry, has got off to a rather disappointing start this year, as there is not much on the game as such other than the scores. Don't think I really like the look of it this year. Looking forward to a significant improvement

  • POSTED BY Mr.PotatoesTomatoes on | October 27, 2013, 5:41 GMT

One of the major concerns with Zaheer's bowling couple of seasons ago was his inability to provide breakthroughs at the start of innings. With the kind of lethality he had developed with the old bowl,he would come back later to make up for not very impressive figures earlier. However, that's not what India needs of its most experienced pace bowler. It's early wickets that pegs the opposition back, and creates psychological pressure on the rest of the line up.Hope selectors observe him carefully and judge him by his ability to pick wickets and his intensity throughout the innings and not just on his showings with the old 'reversing' ball.

India will always produce decent batsmen but the same cannot be said of the bowlers including spin bowling which was our strength one time.
