Three members of India's victorious Under-19 World Cup squad - left-arm spinner Harmeet Singh, allrounder Baba Aparajith and medium-pacer Sandeep Sharma - have been rewarded with Challenger Trophy spots. Harmeet has also made it to the Rest of India squad for the Irani Cup match.

"It is a big break for me and it is important to stay calm, and focus on doing the right things in the match," Harmeet told Mid-Day. "I am a bit surprised to get selected in both squads. I was expecting to get selected for Irani Cup."

Harmeet was one of the key performers for India in the U-19 World Cup and former Australia captain Ian Chappell wrote that Harmeet was ready to be considered for national selection. Harmeet, who picked up six wickets from four games, however, said that it was important for him not to lose focus. "I know there is a lot of talk around the U-19 cricketers. It feels good, but my main goal is to make the senior team. I am well aware of the fact that if I keep performing well, people will talk.

"But once I stop performing, nobody will bother. My focus is completely on my game and training. I want to keep doing well," he said.

The Irani Cup, the opening fixture in India's 2012-13 domestic season, has been shifted to Bangalore because of poor weather conditions at the original venue, Jaipur. Cheteshwar Pujara will lead the Rest of India squad against Rajasthan, the 2011-12 Ranji Trophy champions, in the five-day match beginning on September 21.

The 50-over NKP Salve Challenger Trophy, to be played from September 29 to October 2 in Rajkot, will be contested between 2011-12 Vijay Hazare Trophy winners Bengal, India A and India B.

With the selectors picking a young squad, which includes U-19 captain Unmukt Chand, for the upcoming India A tour of New Zealand, the Rest of India team features mostly known names. The 15-man squad has six players who were part of the India Test side against New Zealand recently.

Yusuf Pathan, whose international comeback in March had lasted one Asia Cup game, has found a spot in the Irani Cup as well as the Challenger Trophy squads. M Vijay, who hasn't played for India since the tour of West Indies in mid-2011, is also part of both the first-class and List A squads. Vijay made 558 runs at an average of 46.50 in the previous Ranji Trophy for Tamil Nadu.

One player who has been rewarded for an outstanding domestic season last year is Karnataka allrounder Stuart Binny. Binny, 28, made 742 runs at 67.45 with three hundreds and picked up 20 wickets at 20.10 in the previous Ranji Trophy but was not part of the A squads for the tours of West Indies and New Zealand.

Shikhar Dhawan, who had a poor time in West Indies with the A side, has been picked as well. Parvinder Awana will have more opportunities after getting just one game in West Indies. Abhimanyu Mithun, who went as Praveen Kumar's replacement on India's trip to Australia, is the fourth fast bowler in the Rest of India squad, which includes two wicketkeepers in Wriddhiman Saha and Dinesh Karthik.

Praveen, who's last appearance for India was during the Asia Cup in March, has been picked for the Challenger Trophy.

Rest of India: Cheteshwar Pujara (capt), M Vijay, Ajinkya Rahane, S Badrinath, Dinesh Karthik, Wriddhiman Saha, Yusuf Pathan, Pragyan Ojha, Parvinder Awana, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav, Shikhar Dhawan, Stuart Binny, Abhimanyu Mithun, Harmeet Singh.

India A: S Badrinath (capt), Ajinkya Rahane, Shikhar Dhawan, Robin Uthappa, Dinesh Karthik, Manish Pandey, Yusuf Pathan, Ishant Sharma, Parvinder Awana, Abhimanyu Mithun, Pragyan Ojha, Iqbal Abdulla, Harshal Patel, Udit Birla.

India B: Cheteshwar Pujara (capt), M Vijay, S Aniruddha, Kedar Jadhav, Robin Bist, Stuart Binny, Ravindra Jadeja, Baba Aparajith, Praveen Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Munaf Patel, Harmeet Singh, Rohit Motwani, Sandeep Sharma.

slector why have u keep close ur eyes abt VAROUN ARRON r u blind? when u will b give chance to show his talent '

Posted by   on (September 12, 2012, 14:48 GMT)

If one is looking for players, who are not being tried out for the coming busy season/s, you should look beyond FIVE teams: the three lists here, Rajasthan Ranji Team, AND the group of players touring NZ to play against NZ (A).( Sorry, Binu , you didn't like my silly joke. So, here is a straight forward one, supplementing your post). Even after your post, some one is asking why Rajasthan players are missing! That prompted me to post this ( though your post was clear enough)

Posted by   on (September 12, 2012, 14:39 GMT)

@trichysivakumar. ROI will be playing against last year's Ranji Champion, Rajasthan. That is why you are missing Rajasthan players in these three lists. India (A ) players (which includes Unmukth Chand) are also missing, since they will be touring NZ, playing a series of matches against NZ (A)

M. Vijay and Dinesh Karthik? Tried and failed domestic wonders...

hey wt about umukth chand.. who played a main role in india winning u 19 world cup.. hez the best opener he can replace sehwag...

anil bhai kaif is not even selected in domestic level

Posted by cimrsimg on (September 12, 2012, 1:04 GMT)

RoI team looks solid. But for Challenger trophy, India B is lacking lot in experience compared to India A. It should have been balanced out. But India B certainly have great potential players.

Posted by   on (September 11, 2012, 22:48 GMT)

Parthiv is missing from ROI which is strange as he lead the ROI last year and won the game. Also, it is surprising to see him missing from India A and India B as he was consider # 2 WK... very interesting selection as ROI contains 2 WKs..

Posted by   on (September 11, 2012, 18:05 GMT)

bad luck for rp singh , was injured during india a tour of nz and after becoming ok he was not picked in any side

Posted by   on (September 11, 2012, 12:53 GMT)

@Outswinger1978 - looks like you are mistaken for Unmukt Chand when you are talking about Pujara. Pujara in fact led India A team a few months back to West Indies as well. Don't know how good a skeeper he is, but not new for sure.

Posted by himohan007 on (September 11, 2012, 12:32 GMT)

@ Achintya Kumar your doubt has already explained by Binu Josph. @mrcool S selection was biased that both useless players should get chance. Thank God this selection comity period is over. @ Outswinger1978 I dont agree with any of your point.About Abu Nechim he is a complete failure in those IPL chances he got, you may say that it is an batsman circus. But he looked completely clue less and doesn't had the confidence to bowl. He isn't a intl level bowler IMO. About Nohit(Rohit) Sharama are u serious in supporting after flopping zillion times in Indian team,India A,India B,ROI,ect. He is not a talented batsman that a known fact

Posted by kuckreja on (September 11, 2012, 12:27 GMT)

@Outswinger1978, I think you are confused. Chand was the captain of the U19 CWC winning Indian team, not Cheteshwar Pujara, who has already played 4 tests and scored 159 for India in a test against NZ recently.

can mr krish srikkanth and his team answer why No one has been picked from rajasthan team in spite of them lifting the cup twice.

why is Yusuf Pathan placed in INDIA A as well in Rest of INDIA squad... will he play as Joker (Batting and Bowling for both Side) for both the Teams...

Where is our Real World cup hero- Unmkt Chand?

Unmkt has vital innings in under-19 world matches. Now time has come. He is the best contender who can replace sehwag, dhoni and sachin type of players.

Baba is another found in india team with patel who can replace dhoni.

Let's get good guys in and bad guys out.

It seems the selection panel is keen that Rajasthan win the Irani Trophy. Asking Cheteshwar Pujara to lead a team comprising experienced players, some who have played Tests, is typical over reaction. Some naive members of the cricket media sing songs about some player's potential and the selectors start dancing to their tunes. Pujara made a fool of himself in the post-match press conference after winning the under-19 World Cup. A good leader has to be focused, measured, command respect and an excellent communicator. Clearly this lad is too raw. Either Dinesh Karthik or Badrinath could have been named captain. And, what about Rohit Sharma? Have they discarded him from national level after his international failures? And Abu Nechim? How many more wickets does he have to take to remind all about his potential!

Posted by sree96sri on (September 11, 2012, 5:58 GMT)

people asking for rayudu, chand .....etc . need to know those players r being given priority by selecting them for newzeland A tour for experience Abhinav Mukund (capt.), Naman Ojha (wk), Mandeep Singh, Anustup Majumdar, Unmukt Chand, Ashok Menaria, Ambati Rayudu, Suryakumar Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Akshay Darekar, Vinay Kumar, Shami Ahmed, Jalaj Saxena, Rahul Sharma, Rituraj Singh and Jaydev Unadkat

Posted by   on (September 11, 2012, 5:29 GMT)

How come couple of players are listed in more than one teams mentioned above? example, Ajinkya Rahane, M Vijay, Badrinath, Dinesh Karthik, Shikhar Dhawan, etc

Posted by   on (September 11, 2012, 5:13 GMT)

Yusuf Pathan will play for both Rest of India and India A...what a luck...

Posted by mrcool on (September 11, 2012, 4:58 GMT)

India B has only 2 openers so that both vijay and anirudhha can play whereas India A has 3 good openers. I would rather prefer robin uthappa for 5 day matches in rest of india sqaud. what special yusuf pathan or vijay did for getting selected for irani cup.

Posted by himohan007 on (September 11, 2012, 4:07 GMT)

Thankyou guys for the update. Hope Chand perform well in NZ. In order to gain respect from other country fans our lads should perform well in overseas conditions. The talented big match player got excellent opportunity.

Posted by SamRoy on (September 11, 2012, 3:55 GMT)

Harmeet should be kept out of limited overs cricket, in 3-4 years he should be playing test cricket for India, a bit harsh on Ojha I know, but some times very good bowlers have to make room for potentially great bowlers and Harmeet, if he doesn't play stupid T20 cricket is well on the way to be a potentially great bowler.

Some funny comments here ; Irani Tropy is playing between Last season Ranji champs vs ROI and that is a four day match and Challenger tropy is a ODI tournament. Rayadu chand shami suryakumar b kumar mukundu they all are playing in NZ that time Varun Aron is injured.Players missing from all the squads are Abu Nechim, Jalaj saxena,Dhawal Kulkarni, sourav Thiwari, Rishi dhawan etc Manoj tiwari is captain of Bengal team

Posted by   on (September 10, 2012, 19:27 GMT)

When we can see twin brother of Baba Aparajith Baba Indrajith . Is he partof TN Ranji team?

Posted by   on (September 10, 2012, 19:25 GMT)

Abu Nechim and Dhawal Kulkarni is missing from all the squads India is looking for fast bowlers Shehbaz Nadeem , Pawan Negi and Jalaj saxena,Rishi dhawan and Biplab Samantry also missing they all done good in last domestic season

Posted by superstar100 on (September 10, 2012, 18:29 GMT)

Yusuf Pathan again will make lot of runs with high strike rate and make his chances in india team as he always perform good in domestic cricket but when he selected in indian team he cant perform agn international bowlers !!!!

Posted by   on (September 10, 2012, 18:21 GMT)

Why not Ashish Nehra he has been dropped without any valid reason,, while hopeless bowlers like vinay, patel keep getting picked

Posted by   on (September 10, 2012, 18:18 GMT)

i dont find reason why rayudu not included in any one of the squads..........atleast in india B.....until this zonal system is completely rooted out........players like rayudu will be at great disadvantage........

Posted by   on (September 10, 2012, 17:50 GMT)

Yusuf Pathan's cricketing days are over, Murali Vijay dances better than he bats, Dinesh Karthik is near retiring... no place for Bisla, Rayudu a real talented bat?! and this is all we have as India's best talent?!?!? ah the selectors have the say...

Posted by   on (September 10, 2012, 17:38 GMT)

@Amit Godwani. ROI has life only for ONE match. They are given birth to once a year. Play Ranji trophy Champions just once. And dies. To be re-born again next year to play another Ranji Champions once. Again dies immediately. BCCI had been arranging this fast forward version of 'Janma' and 'Punarjanma', in an easy to understand mode for the masses. You see, they are into education business as part of their CSR (Corporate Social Responsibilty). Pujara being a Pujari will perform the last rights for ROI. Then will move on to the Birth ceremony of his team for the Challengers. You see, so easy. He is not like the players chosen for India (A), who become "anhoni" in India, when these fight it out in apna bharat. India(A) boys can't be "honi" and "anhoni" at the same time. So those names are missing in these lists. Hope, this explanation sufficently complicated? If not, pl let me know. I shall try to make it a little more complicated, the way Raina tries to hit every ball out of the park.

How can Pujara be the captain of two teams ??

Posted by   on (September 10, 2012, 17:19 GMT)

Rohit sharma was India's reserve player in Australia. After 4-0 series in which all our Retire prone played and he was 12 th man. Test series ended in January. After that match India's domestic season was near to the end and new season yet to begin . So What Mr.Vijay,Kartik,Y.Pathan,stuart binny done to take his place. Also why Umesh and Ojha and Pujara selected for tests as they have to play 8 test matches in this year. If India's selctors are really thinking then they should have played both Yuvraj and Harbhajan in Irani trofy. Where is Akshay Darekar india A best bowler in west indies ????

Posted by   on (September 10, 2012, 17:13 GMT)

where is ambati rayudu, and mandeep singh? no chance for unmukt chand? i dont no why they are giving chances to guys like vijay, aniruddha rather than rayudu and mandeep

shikhar Dhawan always get chance. Its nice to see he gets chance. But what about Tanmay Srivastav.Look like he never get chance

Posted by Javed_Syed on (September 10, 2012, 17:00 GMT)

Agree on Rayudu as well but I think they have not selected players going for NZ A tour!

Posted by Javed_Syed on (September 10, 2012, 16:53 GMT)

I can understand all this hula hoop around young players but why is a player like Kaif ignored for these tournaments. He has done much better than a Vijay, Aniruddha or a Manish Pandey! I think he is still one of the top 20-30 players in India, just a ridiculous selection. And not sure if Varun Aaron is still injured or something..

Srikanth has made sure players from Chennai are selected before his tenure ends.

Posted by   on (September 10, 2012, 16:45 GMT)

I just can't believe that a Rayudu doesn't find place in any of these squads. A really sad waste of talent. What has S Anirudha done of note?

Posted by aravabalaji on (September 10, 2012, 16:39 GMT)

@CricketMaan - Badri is a firefighter, man of steely resolve. At any given day, he will fit into the team. Apart from Cheeka, Dhoni also played his part in ruining his career. He will soon have his day. Otherwise, domestic cricket will go to dogs!

Posted by dailtire on (September 10, 2012, 15:54 GMT)

s aniruddha ??? r u kidding me????

Posted by rosh280 on (September 10, 2012, 15:35 GMT)

it looks as if badarinath is sreekants favourite and anirudda also his favourite because his son what is his record it is something one has to introspect. wridhiman saha, umesh yadav, rohit motwani, udit kaul are moihinder amarnath favourite. narendra hirwani could find anything in bhuvanesh kumar and jalaj s saxwna. very sad. it feels surendra bhave could not find anything in surya kumar yadav and pinal shah. manish pandey is far better than varun aron, sree santh, prashant parameswaran, akshay darekar. sreekant continously there for 4 years in selection process. we have ravishastri, chetan sharma, azharudhin, kapil dev, maninder singh, rahul dravid, v v s lakshman, dilip vengsarkar, roger binny, anil kumble they should also be considered.

Posted by   on (September 10, 2012, 15:27 GMT)

Many retired Indian cricketers and ex-selectors keep on saying that we should field teams with experienced hands AND youth. I was hoping... that Krishnamachari Srikkant and S. Aniruddha would have been the ideal opening pair to prove their point. Can we replace Ravindra Jadeja with K.Srikkant to make this dream opening pairing a reality for India?. They could become India's regular opening pair, for the next few decades. Along with India's greatest ever at No 3.

Posted by   on (September 10, 2012, 15:15 GMT)

It seems selectors could not find players for Rest of India squad, what are Pujara, and ojha doing in it. while vijay, karthik and yusuf Pathan can never make it to the Indian Test side....instead other younger players could have been given chances... and oldie Amit Mishra ? Where is Varun AAron ? Indian spinners bench strength is almost zero...

Posted by Naresh28 on (September 10, 2012, 15:01 GMT)

Agree with some of the comments that "Sandeep Sharma" should actually be in the team to NZ. He launched U19 team to victory with his early strikes in the WC. He needs to test his wings with India A

Posted by PointFielder on (September 10, 2012, 14:46 GMT)

Surprised to see Akshya and Suryakumar not being in the squad.

Posted by   on (September 10, 2012, 14:42 GMT)

Indian selectors keep giving Manish Pandey a hard time, he should have been selected in India A tour squad to New Zealand, but he doesn't even get a spot in the rest of India squad, he was unlucky with the injury in the previous edition of the ranji trophy, but he started well with a double century, his talent is being wasted by the Indian selectors. Anyways the starting 11 for the ROI against Rajasthan should be 1.Rahane 2.Vijay 3.Pujara 4.Badrinath 5.Yusuf Pathan 6.Binny 7.Saha 8.Yadav 9.Ojha 10.Ishant Sharma 11.Harmeet Singh, although I dont understand the need of 15 player squad for a single game.

Posted by rosh280 on (September 10, 2012, 14:36 GMT)

it is the very dismal selection by selectors. how players like badarinath, wriddhiman saha, umesh yadav and shikar dawan gets place in this squad. why they opted out players like jalaj s saxena, suryakumar yadav, pinal shah, bhuvanesh kumar, akshay darekar, ashok menaria, abhishek nayyar, ishant jaggi, c nanda, yogesh nagar, shami ahamed, varuna aron, prashant parameshwaran, mandeep singh. i dont know when we can use them. jalaj s saxena and bhuvanesh kumar bowled and batted very nicely against westindies still these all rounders are not in the frame. please do some study and find their records. really outstanding

Posted by   on (September 10, 2012, 14:14 GMT)

Re: Munaf Patel. This guy always look quite contented sitting at the sidelines, watching and enjoying the game. So, he is not likely to block any one else's chance. Unlike the high chance of Jadeja blocking Aparajit's way!

Harshal Patel?? This guy bowls like a part-time seamer. Talented pacers like Dhawal Kulkarni and Pankaj Singh always miss out. And why are the national selectors ignoring one of the best WK-batsmen in India - UDAY KAUL? Kaul is far better than the likes of Saha, Parthiv and this Motwani guy.

Unmukt Chand is playing for India A team.. In INDIA A tour to NZ captianed by i think Rohit Sharma

Posted by Nampally on (September 10, 2012, 13:27 GMT)

It is nice to see 3 of the U-19 World champions are included in different teams. However, the most encouraging sign is C.Pujara is being groomed as a potential Indian captain. This is the first positive move by the Selector in a long time. In Aparajith, Harmeet & Sandeep India may have at least one good bowler & an all rounder. They are all fine fielders too. in addition U.Chand will be fighting to show his capability in the India A team visiting NZ. I personally felt that Sandeep Sharma would have been far more valuable on the NZ pitches with his prodigious swing than in Indian conditions.Nijay Zol is another young batsmen needing to be encouraged. It is nice to see so many young guns in the India B team. Why is Aaron not in any team? He is one bowler who can post >140 KPH consistently provided he can keep off injuries. I think India A has too many openers whilst India B are searching for one to partner Vijay. On the whole the Selectors did a great job for once - Thank you!.

@premram...Hi bro..these are teams for different format. Rest of India squad is only for Irani trophy where as India A and India B are for Challenger Series and thats y many names as u mentioned figure in 2 lists. As far as Unmukt Chand is concerned he has been selected for India A for NZ tour (not the challenger series Team). on bro..u r 100% correct sachin should get a valuable practice in Irani Trophy. @Himohan....haha Sir Jadeja Ji must answer your prayers and retire for the better future of the Indian Cricket

Posted by   on (September 10, 2012, 13:12 GMT)

For everybody missing Unmukt Chand, he is in India A team that will be touring the New Zealand while Irani trophy and Challenger trophy take place. As for same players appearing in diff teams, ROI squad is for Irani trophy while India A and B are for Challenger trophy :), different formats, different tournaments, different dates

Posted by   on (September 10, 2012, 13:10 GMT)

Unmukt Chand is in the team for India 'A' to tour New Zealand... thats why he is not in the ROI and India A/B

Posted by StarHawk on (September 10, 2012, 13:07 GMT)

To those who are asking where is Unmukt Chand, he will leave for the tour of New Zealand later in the month. There's another India A team that will tour New Zealand, led by Abhinav Mukund. He's part of that team.

From the article: With the selectors picking a young squad, which includes U-19 captain Unmukt Chand, for the upcoming India A tour of New Zealand, the Rest of India team features mostly known names. The 15-man squad has six players who were part of the India Test side against New Zealand recently.

@ rahulcricket007 ,Santhosh Varghese Thyparambil ,himohan007, Manas83, Premram the team rosters of India A and B are meant for the challenger trophy, with the third team being current vijay hazare champions ,bengal. unmukt chand will be playing for India A touring new zealand ROI is for the irani trophy against current ranji champions rajasthan. It is contested by 2 teams

@rahul.........and others - Unmukt is part of India A team touring New Zealand, which is captained by Abhinav Mukund.

@premram - ROI team will play Irani trophy match which is a five day match. Challenger trophy is a one-day match tournament. Since both are separate tournaments there will be some players who will be part of both the teams.

I feel sorry for Badri, he got 4 innings against a solid bowling attack and a certain fired up Steyn, he still managed second best score of 50+ behind Viru's 100 yet never got picked again. That failuer in the second test is citied as a reason for his failure at internaltional level. Who are they kidding? Does 2 Test match series that too against SA at peak form enough to see what he can provide? His selection for t20 and ODI against Windies baffled everyone..rather he should have been picked for Tests and played ahead of Raina. His comments 'For gods sake let me fail before being judged' prior to his ODI debut against SL must have irked Cheeka and co. they ruined his Test career. Now i dont see him either picked or ever play for India again. He seems to be playing Domestic to keep himself fit and paid so can still qualify for IPL. With Raina holding on to his No.7 slot in tests and Rahane, Rohit or Tiwary in line, i must say Farewell Badri.

Unmukt chand is going to new zealand at that time i think

Unmukt is in INDIA A tour of NewZealand

Posted by   on (September 10, 2012, 12:36 GMT)

Friends Irani trophi and Challenger trophy are to differnt events.Iraini Trophy is a Five day contest between Ranji Champs(Rajasthan) and ROI.Whereas Challenger is a tournament between Domestic 50 overs champion (Bengal in this case) and ROI divided between two teams India A and India B .And hence some players name can be seen two times .Players who have been selected for both irani trophy and challenger series.

Posted by   on (September 10, 2012, 12:34 GMT)

Unmukt is in Senior India "A" who will be touring New Zealand shortly, so he is not in any of these squads.

ROI team will play only one match only i.e against Ranji Winners for the Irani Trophy. India A and India B will play for Challenger trophy along with Bengal . Irani trophy is a 5 day match and Challenger trophy is for one day matches.

Posted by anshu.s on (September 10, 2012, 12:34 GMT)

Unmukt Chand is away on an India A tour to New Zealand held at the same time with host of others that's why he is not there, so pleased to see Manish Pandey get a chance along with three u-19 boys but would have loved to see unsung hero of India u-19 batter Prashant Chopra who does look classy, also would have loved to see million dollar man Saurabh Tiwary in the challengar squadd.I agree with @himmohan007 about 2 challengar squads being lopsided,Robin Bisht a 4 day specialist should have been on ROI team instead. I also hope rest of the u-19 boys from this WC and the one before get a chance to play regularly for there state sides in Ranji this year.

Posted by QingdaoXI on (September 10, 2012, 12:33 GMT)

to all who are asking why there is not Unmukt Chand in the squad because he will be playing in New Zealand vs New Zealand A. Becuase of that some players like Chand, Rayudu, Mukund, Mandeep, Surya Yadav, Rahul Sharma, Bhuvanesh kumar, Shammi Ahmed and others are not Playing. And those who are asking why two players are in more squad becuase Rest of India is the team which will play Ranji Tropy Winner of Last year Rajasthan in 5 day match and India A and India B team will compete with Bengal in Challenger Trophy.

Posted by CricketMaan on (September 10, 2012, 12:33 GMT)

For those who are questioning UNMUKT, read the article carefully..he will be honing his skills playing in NZ's bouncy wickets and hence not in these squads. The same is the case with Suryakumar Yadav, Shammi Ahmed who too are brilliant prospects. I feel sad for Vijay Zol who has the potential but not the domestic scores behind him, but he is young and will feature soon.

Posted by Harsh786 on (September 10, 2012, 12:33 GMT)

Good to know that there are players playing in two teams....

Posted by PiyushD on (September 10, 2012, 12:32 GMT)

OK, a lot of confusion, these are teams for Irani cup and NKP Salve Challenger, while ROI team is for Irani cup, INdia A and India B are for NKP Salve Challenger trophy.

Posted by   on (September 10, 2012, 12:30 GMT)

Unmukt Chand is in India A Squad, due to tour New Zealand at the same time.....

Posted by   on (September 10, 2012, 12:28 GMT)

Ok, so this year the rules of challenger trophy has been changed. Instead of India seniors (who will probably be playing in the T20 world cup in Sri Lanka), Bengal the Vijay Hazare Trophy winners will be playing in it.

Unmukt Chand is not in these three teams because he will be touring New Zealand with the "other/official" India A team at the same time when Challenger Trophy will be underway. It is confusing.

Posted by boredkumar on (September 10, 2012, 12:26 GMT)

guys calm down. Unmukht will be in NZ playing for India A. Thats also possibly the reason for picking such a random squad for the NZ series (with naman ojha as the keeper) and just as an FYI this INDIA A and INDIA B for challenger trophy is different from the INDIA A touring NZ...

Posted by   on (September 10, 2012, 12:25 GMT)

I am amazed why they have selected so many pacemen for Irani Trophy. And some shocking selections as well. No Staurt Binny in Irani Team. And why no Kaif in Challenger trophy? Where is Amit Mishra? Indian selectors have made very confusing selections here and are giving very bad indication for the future.

Posted by   on (September 10, 2012, 12:24 GMT)

In NKP Salve Challenger Trophy Manoj Tiwary captaining Bengal, and he is not even consider in ROI for Irani trophy after having gr8 season with the bat in domestic circle averaging almost 200 and also has 2nd highest run getter in India A tour of West indies.

What selector is doing to another gr8 Talent, will Monoj is another victim of bad Man Managemnet by Indian Selector

Posted by   on (September 10, 2012, 12:20 GMT)

Pujara is not in A & B, rather Pujara is in ROI and India B...... The ROI or Rest of India team is going to play for the Irani Trophy/Cup against Rajasthan. India A or India B does not figure out there. India A and India B are going to play in the NKP Salve Challenger Trophy and ROI does not play there.

In other years the third team for the Challenger Trophy is named India Seniors, but the fixtures are showing "Bengal" as the third team this year. Not sure why.

Posted by bestbuddy on (September 10, 2012, 12:19 GMT)

Actually read the article people - it clearly states that Chand is in the India A tour of NZ and so is not available for selection for these games

Posted by prasan_t on (September 10, 2012, 12:18 GMT)

Unmukt Chand will be in New-Zealand with India A team. Hence his name doesnt figure in the list.

Posted by JayGoswami on (September 10, 2012, 12:18 GMT)

@Manas83 himohan007 Santosh Varghese Thyparambil rahulcricket007 Unmukt Chand is going in the India-A tour of New Zealand so he is not available for any of the squad.

Posted by   on (September 10, 2012, 12:15 GMT)

Unmukt is flying to New Zealand for India A's tour. Now stop blaming the BCCI and the selectors.

Posted by   on (September 10, 2012, 12:13 GMT)

For all those wondering why Unmukt isn't in either of these three squads, it is because he is touring New Zealand with India A led by Mukund untill early november and this team is also scheduled to miss their respective opening ranji matches

Posted by   on (September 10, 2012, 12:13 GMT)

wat about ashok menaria, pankaj singh & rituraj singh ?? y is it so that s2 of them are eligible to play for India A in new zealand but not in challenger ?? strange!!

Unmukt is touring with the India A to NEw Zealand from 18th Sep to 5th October

Guys, Unmukt Chand is not in any team above because he's been picked for India A tour of New Zealand.

Posted by   on (September 10, 2012, 11:56 GMT)

for those people asking about unmukt chand- follow the news guys.. he is in NZ with India A.. and those asking about some players in 2 teams- 1 is for first class nd the other one for one dayers... nd I agree with you himohan007.. baba aparajith won't get a chance bcoz of Sir RAVINDRA JADEJA..and correctly said ayas.. Sachin should have been in ROI instead of the useless Dhawan.. MyROI playing XI will be Vijay, rahane, pujara, sachin, badri, pathan, karthik, mithun, ishant, umesh,ojha.. btw where is aaron??? khe should have been in ROI as well as India A/B.. Another case of throwing away a talnt after 1-2 matches...

Posted by   on (September 10, 2012, 11:54 GMT)

@premram: Irani cup is different from challenger trophy... Harmeet singh is a great talent we must use him properly... Aparjith will replace (spin+bat) jadeja nad yusuf pathan slot..

WHERE Rohit Sharma, Unmukt Chand varoon aroon ...????

Posted by himohan007 on (September 10, 2012, 11:46 GMT)

May be those guys are under selection radar. If one of their team fails to qulify final. They get another chance with other team.So selectors can evaluate with more no performance of the players. If it is right harbi's headache of breaking Ashwin-Ohja pair and sneaking into team will increase along with the serious competitor Harmeet. It also make Ashwin not to relax upon his recent performance bcoz he has to work on his fitness, fielding n running b/w wickets.....

Posted by   on (September 10, 2012, 11:43 GMT)

hey guys i hope the guys who have raised the que abt Unmukt Chand are nt following indian tours. How can a guy(Unmukt Chand) be part of two teams in two different nations.

unmukt chand is part of india-A side which is touring new-zeland.. great to see harmeet and aprajith get chance ..

Posted by Rajit on (September 10, 2012, 11:21 GMT)

Rohit Motwani who???? IF they had to select a rookie keeper why not U-19 star Smit Patel? Who is Udit Birla!?!?Also not able to figure out why have they selected two keepers in ROI Squad?

Posted by   on (September 10, 2012, 11:20 GMT)

Where is Unmukt??? He is the NextGen Player of India??? Is he injured ???

Posted by abi121 on (September 10, 2012, 11:20 GMT)

@Surabh Sanyal: Whatay silly question is that? Stuart Binny had a wonderful Ranji Season averaging 67.45 with bat & picked up 20 wickets. You should ask What is Yusuf Pathan doing? He was injured & did not play Ranji Trophy. How is in the squad? He's not a test material to play 4day games. Please dont judge players based on IPL. There are lot more players who are good in ranji without any recognisation.

Posted by   on (September 10, 2012, 11:13 GMT)

Unmukt Chand is in New Zealand with India A's touring party.

Posted by naz-shot on (September 10, 2012, 11:10 GMT)

Again Kaif left out, sad to omit a player like this. I think he should pack his bags and say good bye to International Cricket. Is this the new selection committee headed by Amarnath / Binny

Posted by Ayas on (September 10, 2012, 11:07 GMT)

Unmukt is in India-A team to NZ...

abu nechim is again neglected.... why???

From where did Anirudhha Srikanth Sneaked in?

Posted by satish619chandar on (September 10, 2012, 11:05 GMT)

All three deserved their slot. Aparajith might need to wait for some more time but feeling that Harmeet and Sandeep are ready to step ahead. Chand would be missed here. But he is mature enough he will get more sooner.

Posted by   on (September 10, 2012, 11:02 GMT)

There was another Quick in u19 team Shukla along with Sharma who bowled exceptionally well where is he ?

Posted by   on (September 10, 2012, 11:02 GMT)

where is unmukt chand?Aparajith is a good selection...

Posted by i_witnessed_2011 on (September 10, 2012, 11:00 GMT)

I do not know on what merit players like S Anirudha get their chances... His first class Avg is not impressive and also He has been tried in similar tournments previous year... he does not have any recent good performance to show as well... I would prefer U.Chand in his place...

even i have same ques...where is Unmukt Chand????

Posted by Premram on (September 10, 2012, 10:57 GMT)

How come Cheteshwar Pujara(A & B), S Badrinath(ROI & A) & Harmeet Singh(ROI & B) in 2 Teams... ??????

Posted by Ayas on (September 10, 2012, 10:54 GMT)

Why Sachin is not in ROI ? He is awfully out of form... why not make him sweat in Irani trophy instead of valueless Champ league or very important Eng series...

Posted by himohan007 on (September 10, 2012, 10:53 GMT)

IMO India A is batting heavy and India B is bowling heavy. Hope these 2 teams play final and best emerging players come to senior team. And pls somebody explain why no Unmukt Chand because I expect him future VC under Kholi. Thank you

Posted by Manas83 on (September 10, 2012, 10:48 GMT)

Why Ojha in both ROI and India A ? Why no Unmukt Chand :O

Posted by himohan007 on (September 10, 2012, 10:46 GMT)

Oh my God Baba Aparajith is in the same team where there is Sir Ravindra Jedeja. The alrounder might not get chance. I hope RJ after performing wonderfully to team India and CSK for winning cause and obtaining honorable SIR tag among cricket fans HE should retire. Pls give chance to committed youngsters selectors.........Thank you.
