Zimbabwe spinner Ray Price has joined the Mumbai Indians squad for the remainder of the 2011 IPL season as a replacement for Australian allrounder Moises Henriques, who did not travel to India after having surgery in March for an adductor muscle injury.

Price was unsold at the original IPL player auction in January and Mumbai have now bought him at his reserve price of $50,000. He joined the squad a day before their eight-run win over Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium.

Price was Zimbabwe's leading wicket-taker during the World Cup with nine wickets at an average of 18.77 and economy-rate of 3.44. He becomes the second Zimbabwean to be involved with the IPL after Tatenda Taibu, who was part of the Kolkata Knight Riders squad in the first season of the tournament.

Price has built a reputation as a canny and bellicose limited-overs bowler and has risen to second place in the ICC's ODI bowler rankings after his performance at the World Cup. "Obviously you learn more as you get older and I think that has been the case with me and I'm very happy with the way things have been going for me at the moment," he had told News Day after regaining the No. 2 spot.

"When I started playing international cricket, one of my goals was to finish at the top and being ranked No. 2 in the world is nice but my goal now is to move up to No. 1. The busier season ahead will be a good opportunity for us to do well against the top-ranked teams and we have some time to prepare for that."

In addition to Zimbabwe's upcoming series against Bangladesh, Australia A and Pakistan, Price has an IPL stint in which to hone his skills.

Hey Price! nice to see u in india. hope u have a nice stay and enjoy ur time hee... best of luck for the season.. looking forward to see u in the mumbai indian team.. do well...

Excellent!!! right on spot, again a very good decision taken by MI selectors to go for Ray Price...the left arm spinner was among the most economical bowlers in the World Cup and ended with No. 2 ratings. It's an honour for a player who belongs to Zimbabwe...as the country z going through a tough phase as far as cricket is concerned. He z a very miser type of bowler, who enjoys his cricket and love tough challenges, although MI have Ali Murtaja as a left arm spinner but Price experience will add extra edge to the bowling department ...hitting him out of the Park is not a very easy thing to do...Lets c how better he performs n maintain his reputation.

Posted by   on (April 24, 2011, 8:05 GMT)

Tamim iqbal will be better option in place of R satish.it would give a good start for MI.

Posted by   on (April 24, 2011, 7:09 GMT)

i think the mumbai indians pick r saish first and then pick the other ten players.what is his role in the team.he doesn't score runs and and his bowling is atrocious to say the least.he has been an integral part of mumbai indians inspite of his mediocre show in the last three years.it is not understood how he gets the chance inthe playing elven when much more talented and better cricketers are relegated to the sidelines.

Posted by   on (April 24, 2011, 4:45 GMT)

@NARVAN - Perfectly described changes. By bringing Price, Mumbai can play five front-line bolwer. Suman is also a very good player - at least a better batsman than Sathish. Rayudu and Tendulkar should open the innings, with Suman being the backup batsman in case of a collapse.

Posted by   on (April 24, 2011, 4:13 GMT)

Hope he gets a chance to prove himself......................:)

Pretty good selection from MI team. Another addition to the armory. Hope Sachin will not falter in selection.

I am very very happy to see Ray Price in IPL. Wish you all the best buddy. I was surprised when Brendon Taylor and Ray Price were not picked by any IPL team in auction. Brendon Taylor is an excellent choice for wicket keeper/batsmen. I am waiting to see Brendon Taylor and Kevin O'Brian in IPL. Love to see associate countries players.

Love to see some associated countries players in IPL. Good luck Ray Price.

GOOD CHOICE.Sachin should try replace franklin with ray for math against DC.satish is very good Fielder.but he should be replace by suman as suman is better bowler than satish and he is also decent in batting & fielding.

Posted by prakashnanvani on (April 23, 2011, 14:17 GMT)

Satish should be replaced with T.Suman who is a v good & talented batsman. I don't understand Sachin's liking for Satish. Sachin although a v v great batsman but has proved to be a v v ordinary captain time and again in terms of strategies and planning. Also, i think James Franklin should be replaced with proper bowler Fernando or Ray Price. As it is Franklin is being hit a lot when he bowls and not at all impressive with batting...so why not replace him with a specialist bowler. Guys, how abt Andrew Symonds as opening partner for Sachin ?? may i hv ur thoughts / comments on this pls ?? as it is sachin more of a pacer of his innings, so symonds should be given the freedom to go for this shots right away b'coz he likes ball coming on to the bat. no-3 for rayudu, no-4 for rohit sharma, no-5 for suman, no-6 for pollard, no-7 for harbajan --- followed by fernando / price, malinga, munaf, ali murtaza.

Posted by Shahnawajhossain on (April 23, 2011, 13:28 GMT)

Ray Price is good choice...but I think Tamim Iqbal will be the better option as MI already looking for Sachin's opening partner....

Why not T.Suman in place of R.Satish?

gud 2 c price in ipl he is a conjuse bowler thats wt t20 is known 4

Posted by stevedd on (April 23, 2011, 11:45 GMT)

suman is a very good batsman sachin. take him and leave out sathish otherwise take help from dhoni regarding captainship. try opening with suman and franklin let them go out and hit, we need someone there in the opening slots to fire blindly. because mumbai indians have sachin, symonds, rayudu, sharma, later to come.

Posted by stevedd on (April 23, 2011, 11:41 GMT)

I do not know what on earth is sachin so fond of sathish. there are good players in the side and still sachin hangs on to sathish.

Price is the sort of bowler who always keeps the run rate down and puts pressure on the batsman. He also showed in the world cup that he could bowl with the new ball and still not be expensive.

DADA IS A PASSE FOR NOW - LETS MOVE ON DEAR. NO ONE WANTS TO HAVE NON PERFORMING AGED SUPER STARS.

Posted by abhi20690 on (April 23, 2011, 10:11 GMT)

very clever buy. price is a sort of a bowler who keeps it tight from one end and allows the likes of malinga, bhajji and munaf to attack and pick up wickets.

Posted by nzcricket174 on (April 23, 2011, 9:20 GMT)

Two classy left arm spinners are numbers 1 and 2 in the ODI rankings, deservedly too. I think Price is great but he will have to put up a fight to push Vettori for that ranking. Bracken is the only person over the past year to really push him for that ranking. I hope as a Kiwi Price can achieve his no.1 ranking so Vettori can take it back off him. Total bias here.

Posted by abhi_cricinfo on (April 23, 2011, 9:04 GMT)

Ray Price is smart addition to MI . They are struggling with opener spot and 4th bowler spot .I guess now MI will now open with Rohit Sharma & Sachin Tendulkar. Ray Price & Bhajji will be excellent in spin department.

Posted by STARFISH14 on (April 23, 2011, 8:54 GMT)

I think Mashrafe Mortaza should be in one of the 10 IPL teams b'coz he can bat and ball as well and ofcourse there is Sourav Ganguly who is a legend

Posted by   on (April 23, 2011, 8:51 GMT)

@wiseshah - Don't kid yourself. The best Bangladeshi player is Shakib Al Hasan, who is truly a very good limited over all-rounder. That's why he was chosen by one of the best franchises, and is also playing in the starting XI, keeping the likes of Haddin out. However, others are yet to prove their mettle. Including Tamin, who is very talented, but yet to prove his worth in limited over games.

Posted by   on (April 23, 2011, 8:42 GMT)

mumbai indian............ get rid of satish.....he couldnt play well yest...he was struggling and gave bad impact on sachin 2....... so one gud indian batsman and leave franklin out and can include price.......if u cant find any other gud overseas all rounder

Posted by midgovi on (April 23, 2011, 8:27 GMT)

As far as i remember only two spinners have troubled Sachin on Indian Soil, Saqlain and Ray Price. I still remembers how Sachin avoided facing price in a test match in the whole morning session and when he finally got to face him, Sachin was dismissed next ball trying to hoist the ball over mid off. May be Sachin remembers that and have drafted price into the squad. He can be a handy addition considering MI doesnt have a second lead spinner

Posted by   on (April 23, 2011, 7:45 GMT)

Ray Price will worth his PRICE, a fine addition to the competitive Mumbai Indians..

Posted by icegreen89 on (April 23, 2011, 7:35 GMT)

Great to see him here! I became a fan during the world cup and was hoping he'd play the IPL. Great for Associate cricket as well. Hope to see more of them.

Posted by   on (April 23, 2011, 7:19 GMT)

It has been mentioned clearly that he is replacing Moises Henriques .. so contradictory rules in this case atleast!!

Posted by crickstats on (April 23, 2011, 6:32 GMT)

I think the problem with DADA is his base price which is 400,000, the franchise have to purchase the player at that price I guess

Posted by   on (April 23, 2011, 6:29 GMT)

Absolutely pleased for price , no 2 ranked and now IPL - I think he will show his worth and upstage the party . Wonder though if that will not expose him to more scrutiny and make him known to the opposition - big chance for him to get some critical coaching and new thinking into his game .

which player has Raymond Price replaced in the Mumbai Indians Squad ??

Posted by vkt.inc on (April 23, 2011, 5:20 GMT)

its so irritating dat ppl still cry ovr "dada's" non-inclusion in da IPL,c'mon guys get over wit it & move on...

Posted by   on (April 23, 2011, 4:30 GMT)

Already bhajji is doing well n 4 overseas players r there, then he is definetely a burden for them

Posted by shaileshij on (April 23, 2011, 3:45 GMT)

price goona be good for MI,and no w spin department of mumbai is also best,,Now IPL is all ours

Posted by wiseshah on (April 23, 2011, 3:33 GMT)

najmul hossain milon from bangladesh is another great prospect for 20/20.

Posted by   on (April 23, 2011, 1:11 GMT)

how could he join.., did he replace any player? and why Dada coudn't join Kochi..?? different rules for different player?

Posted by   on (April 23, 2011, 0:24 GMT)

bring in chhigumbura and taibu too... lets see all players of world in ipl

Posted by   on (April 22, 2011, 21:56 GMT)

now get other lesser team players in ipl like kevin o'brien!!!!

Posted by   on (April 22, 2011, 21:24 GMT)

Yeah totally deserves it! Price for Captain!!!

Posted by   on (April 22, 2011, 21:16 GMT)

this good move ..it will help zim cricket alot ..i hope they rise and play good cricket gud luck ray price

Posted by   on (April 22, 2011, 20:44 GMT)

Happy that players from the 'lesser' teams are getting a chance to earn a reward for their hard work... Wish him and ten Doeschate get to play and deliver on their potential...

Posted by donda on (April 22, 2011, 20:35 GMT)

super for zimbabwe, price is good bowler.

Posted by InsideHedge on (April 22, 2011, 20:35 GMT)

Good to see him in the MI team, he's an agressive and underrated bowler. It was Price who first gave Sachin problems in Test cricket by tying him down with a leg-stump line. This was long before Ashley Giles. I wonder if Tendulkar had a say in his joining MI.

I was under the impression that Tamim Iqbal may get picked up esp since I saw a report soon after the Bangla-Ind WC opener. Now, if the Zim-Bangla series has been pushed back, surely Tamim should be selected by one of the franchises. A Tamim-Sachin opening partnership would have been exciting.
