Indian Premier League - 21st match

Mumbai Indians v Pune Warriors

Mumbai Indians won by 7 wickets (with 0 balls remaining)

1.1

Malinga to Ryder, no run, aims for the toss almost immediately. Full and fast at 137 kph, Ryder works it off the pads to midwicket.

1.2

Malinga to Ryder, no run, over-pitched on middle, Ryder looks to move away and thump it through the off side, but finds mid off.

1.3

Malinga to Ryder, FOUR, Ryder's got under him. Malinga sends down a slower ball at 126 kph, on a length, Ryder muscles it over mid on off the front foot. Not too well-hit, but good enough for the first six overs.

1.4

Malinga to Ryder, 2 wides, slants the pacy yorker down the leg side. Called a wide, and they run one more as Rayudu fails to collect.

1.4

Malinga to Paine, no run, Malinga inflicts pain almost straight away. Paine begins his IPL career by nervously feeling outside off as Malinga sends down a pacy full ball that nips away slightly.

1.5

Malinga to Paine, no run, play and a miss. Malinga sends down another pacy away-bender at the Wankhede. Paine plays a cover drive at the DY Patil. Daylight between bat and ball as it whizzes past.

1.6

Malinga to Paine, 1 run, Paine's away, trotting out in Paul Collingwood style to a full delivery and driving it towards mid-off for one.

Pune Warriors 10/0   SL Malinga 1-0-7-0

9.1

Malinga to Uthappa, 1 run, Uthappa doesn't give too many bowlers respect, but this man he does. Quietly taps him to the leg side for a single.

9.2

Malinga to Kartik, no run, whoa, yorker at 144 kph and Kartik wisely hides the toes from the missile by getting the bat in the way. Nearly run out, as he digs it out and thinks of a single. Malinga collects and under-arms but no harm done.

9.3

Malinga to Kartik, no run, not so straight this time, Kartik opens the face and steers towards point

9.4

Malinga to Kartik, 1 run, Malinga bounces him at 140 kph, Kartik is a year late on the pull as he recovers from his hide-the-toes strategy and pulls feebly through midwicket.

9.5

Malinga to Uthappa, FOUR, smoked by Uthappa. Where does he find this confidence? He walks down the track, gets in position to drive a length ball and bangs it straight past Malinga for four. Brutal, but with a straight bat.

9.6

Malinga to Uthappa, no run, Malinga doesn't like it and bounces him. Uthappa shuffles across and belatedly decides to duck under it. Wise decision.

Pune Warriors 60/5   SL Malinga 2-0-13-0

12.1

Malinga to Uthappa, 1 no ball, aha, Malinga has delivered a beamer. Has to have slipped out of the slingy hand. Uthappa stands a metre outside the crease, as is. That must have come at him like a meteor! Thankfully, it wasn't too straight and he looked to slap that to the leg side. Tendulkar tumbles anc catches at midwicket, but it is a no-ball for height.

12.1

Malinga to Uthappa, FOUR, boy, he's hammered that. Malinga gives him a foot of width outside off, Uthappa gets decisively across this time and thumps him on the up through the covers.

12.2

Malinga to Uthappa, 1 run, yorker, screams in towards the toes and Uthappa whips it through square leg for one

12.3

Malinga to Kartik, 1 run, Third umpire will look at this run out appeal. Slower ball from Malinga, full and on middle, Kartik makes room and steers to Pollard at point. He played it off the back foot and did not really hare across. He wasn't at full stretch when the ball came through to hit the stumps, but still made it.

12.4

Malinga to Uthappa, no run, another yorker, even Uthappa can't get under this one and plays it back down the track.

12.5

Malinga to Uthappa, 1 run, slow yorker on middle and leg, Uthappa picks it a little late and adjusts his drive by taking the bottom hand off to play it along the turf to long on.

12.6

Malinga to Kartik, OUT, Kartik's played the poorest shot of the day. He's chipped a full ball from Malinga straight to Symonds, a few metres inside the circle at mid-on. It was full, and might have come off slower than he thought. Kartik stays back and looks to tap it over the infield. Mistake. Pune are in a soup. Malinga-tawny soup.

Pune Warriors 87/6   SL Malinga 3-0-21-1

16.1

Malinga to Sharma, FOUR, he starts off with a near yorker outside off that Rahul Sharma stays back to, angles the blade and redirects through the covers. Expertly done.

16.2

Malinga to Sharma, 1 run, this time it is the yorker on off, Rahul gets his feet out of the way and digs it out.

16.3

Malinga to Wagh, 2 runs, low full toss outside off, Wagh opens his account by guiding firmly through the covers.

16.4

Malinga to Wagh, OUT, 131 kph. Not a slower ball normally. But when Malinga bowls it, it sure is a slower ball. Full and on the pads, Wagh was into the chip very early and tamely scooped it to midwicket. Easy as they come.

SB Wagh c Symonds b Malinga 2 (2b 0x4 0x6) SR: 100.00

16.5

Malinga to Thomas, no run, fullish ball on off, played backward of point.

16.6

Malinga to Thomas, no run, fast and furious, but not so full. Thomas does well to cover the line and defend.
