Indian Premier League - 39th match

Chennai Super Kings v Deccan Chargers

Chennai Super Kings won by 19 runs

Welcome back. I have managed to finish 90% of my dinner. Dhawan and Sohal will begin the chase. Albie with the new ball

0.1

Morkel to Sohal, 1 leg bye, sprays it on the pads first up, it zips off the surface and Dhoni cannot gather cleanly

0.2

Morkel to Dhawan, 1 run, hangs on the back foot, and guides a length ball to squarish third man

0.3

Morkel to Sohal, 1 run, steers a length ball and it flies off the bat, making Doug Bollinger do some work at third man

0.4

Morkel to Dhawan, 1 run, cuts in from outside leg stump, he shuffles and tucks it to short fine leg

0.5

Morkel to Sohal, no run, backs away and looks to go over covers, is miles away from the ball as it whizzes past off stump

0.6

Morkel to Sohal, 1 wide, sees him makes room outside leg again and sends the bouncer, but it goes too high over the batsman

Nishath: "You can have the remaining 10% in the time outs :)" I finished it already, actually

0.6

Morkel to Sohal, 1 run, backs away again, this time Morkel goes full outside off stump, and he stretches out to squeeze it towards covers

End of over 1 (6 runs) Deccan Chargers 6/0 (160 runs required from 19 overs, RR: 6.00, RRR: 8.42)
S Sohal    2* (4b)      JA Morkel    1-0-5-0
S Dhawan    2* (2b)

1.1

Bollinger to Sohal, SIX, well, the backing away has worked this time, Bollinger has gone for maximum first ball, he was in no position to play a proper shot as he had gone far outside leg, so he reached out to have a slash at it, and ended up slicing it towards third man, who thought he had a chance but it beat him over the boundary

1.2

Bollinger to Sohal, no run, Sohal has shown only one way so far this innings, back away and swing, he connected last ball but missed this time as Bollinger dug it in short

1.3

Bollinger to Sohal, FOUR, gets a boundary this time, wasn;t looking to do it, the shorter one, he managed to edge it past Dhoni

1.4

Bollinger to Sohal, 1 run, more luck for Sohal, this time he connects, slices the ball as he has a big swing, but would you believe it, it falls between sweeper cover, third man, cover and point who try to converge on the ball

1.5

Bollinger to Dhawan, no run, bouncer outside off stump, left alone

1.6

Bollinger to Dhawan, 1 run, you can't pack more action in one ball, this one was cut away towards point, non-striker wanted the single and ran all the way to the striker who hadn't budged much, the throw comes to the striker's end, and misses, if it had hit both batsmen would have been short of the crease, fielder backs up, not very cleanly, but manages to throw it back to Bollinger, who still had ages to take off the bails, but he missed the stumps on the first attempt, he tried to throw the ball on the stumps on the second attempt, but missed again, all these men collectively wouldn't have hit a wall from a foot away

End of over 2 (12 runs) Deccan Chargers 18/0 (148 runs required from 18 overs, RR: 9.00, RRR: 8.22)

2.3

Morkel to Sohal, SIX, the backing away is working, I don't know how, no one knows, scarcely does Sohal, he makes room and lifts this one over covers, and it carries over the ropes

2.4

Morkel to Sohal, FOUR, this one is belted, again he was miles outside leg stump, got a fuller one and creamed it past extra cover, fortunately no fielder was in the way, fortunate for the fielder that is, it was hammered hard

2.5

Morkel to Sohal, FOUR, if the future looks back towards history for variety, it will have to look no further than this over, ending up two feet outside leg stump, Sohal sees Morkel angle it in to him, and gets the dab well past Dhoni in to the third man boundary, beat that

2.6

Morkel to Sohal, no run, there is a dot ball as well, the full spectrum, full menu, tries to slap a fuller one past cover but cannot beat the infield

6.3

What a game that was. Phew. This is Abhishek Purohit signing off for today. Join us for tomorrow's games. And thanks for the loads of feedback mails. I put up as many as I could. Cheers!

Albie Morkel is the Man of the Match. Morkel: "It is not easy to hit in the end overs, I started to practise last week, hitting balls in the middle from ball one. Lance Klusener is one of my idols, if I can be half the player he was, I'll be happy. With the ball, when there is a bit of swing around, I do well, but if it goes straight it gets a bit tough."

Dhoni: "Our bowling was ordinary to start off. It is not easy when someone is willing to give away his wicket and score runs. But we came back well, I am happy with the runs we put on the board. We always try to set up a platform because of which we are able to score lots of runs in the last 3-4 overs. Albie really finished the game well today. Lots of teams put emphasis in the last six, we look to capitalise on the last 4-5 overs. Even if me and Anirudha are not able to do it, Badri manages to do it in the end and ends up with a healthy strike rate. It is a long way to go still. This was a game when we went in the field we were a bit relaxed, we should not get relaxed so soon."

Sangakkara: "Sunny and Shikhar batted really well but we lost momentum in the middle. Chennai batted and bowled well and did the basics better than us. They got 15-20 runs more than we were looking at. We've got another six games, it only takes a little bit ti turn it around in T20."

Time for the presentation

Albie Morkel, the man with three consecutive sixes and three wickets: "It's not easy to come back from behind. They went hard at the new ball. We were definitely under the pump. Dhoni said a few hard words and the boys reacted well to that."

vikram: "A roof in chepauk should be named after albie morkel."

ishan: "@ Vibhu: not only selection, I think Sanga should have come at first down..."

Prashanth: "Dhoni's belief in Jakati paid off today.....match changing spell...gud stuff."

AR: "This is the advantage of having a captain made of steel and a team that knows each other like the back of their hands."

vibhu: "I hope sombody asks sanga about his team selection?.....i also believe that DC mgmt are looking for White to captain the team after sanga's departure otherwise he does not desearve a plan in the playing 11 given his form."

Praveen: "3 6's from Albie is the difference between two teams." The margin is 19, true.

Superb comeback from Chennai. They always find a way past seemingly hopeless situations. Not many sides would have come back from when Deccan were 71 for 0 in the seventh over.

nishath: "Both the citadels remain intact : Jaipur and Chennai :)"

     DE Bollinger    4-0-26-2
