Indian Premier League, 40th match: Mumbai Indians v Kings XI Punjab at Mumbai, May 2, 2011
Mumbai Indians won by 23 runs
2 May 2011 - day/night match (20-over match)

Sachin and Davy walk out to the middle. We are all set, quite a bit of noise around the ground. Bhargav Bhatt to start off for Punjab.

Partha: "@hasan : Good that Shahid (afridi) isnt playing for Mumbai as a part of the S-lieutenants."

Kalyan: "Mumbai usually follow the policy -"Why to fix when it aint broke" Only today, maybe because of the wicket, they have made two changes."

Sid: "A suggestion: If someone hits huge six today, you can say it landed on railway tracks or sumthing instead of Arabian sea just for some variety! Since marina beach & arabian sea are getting repeated when it comes to Chennai & Mumbai! :-)" So it will be either Marine Drive or Marine Lines, eh?

hasan: "I'm watching this game solely to get my old Deccan fix - Gilly v. his able & trusted S-lieutenants (Sharma/Symonds/Suman)."

kiran: "@Ashish - No worries for Suman, as MI and Sachin has tendency to give more chances to a player. Take example of Sathish and Pollard. So If suman has bad outing for 2-3 games then only curtain falls for him. So keep fingers crossed , suman will do well today."

sudhir: "THE question is, will Suman get a chance to bat?"

ashish: "Finally suman gets a game ...well if he has a bad game today .. might be curtains for him in this ipl." Er, why?

Toss: Adam Gilchrist wins the toss and Punjab will have a bowl

Sachin Tendulkar: "We would have ideally bowled as well. The match will be over by the time dew comes on. We have brought in T Suman in place of R Sathish, Abu Nechim is in for Ali Murtaza. There is always a bit of bounce here, so Nechim should be handy."

Adam Gilchrist: "We have chased well so far. The wicket does not change much in Twenty20 over the course of a game." Punjab are playing an unchanged XI.

The wicket looks a bit dry, some cracks but it is expected to be good for batting, and the seamers are also expected to get some help.

Paul Valthaty: "This is the place where I have played my junior cricket, club cricket, company cricket, so there is a bit of a homecoming for me. Unfortunately, my parents are not in town and will not be able to come to the stadium."

Hello all. Welcome to the 40th game of the IPL. 39 gone, 34 to go. Today, Mumbai Indians, coming off a loss in their previous game, will come hard at Kings XI Punjab, who have played the least games in this IPL so far. More in Nitin Sundar's preview.

Mumbai is hot, humid, sweltering, sticky usually, more so in May. Thank heavens for the Arabian Sea, and the fact that barely a road separates it from the Wankhede Stadium.

While we wait for the toss, you can play Team Selector, and also check out Howzat, the online social cricket game

Harris to Symonds, 1 run, hit towards deep midwicket, the ball travels fast off Symonds' blade and there isn't enough time to come back for the second

Sidh256: "I hope Sachin Does not ponder if having Ali Murtaza was a better deal than having Nechim on board - after all the two left handed spinners did well for Punjab !"

Tushar: "Ganguly received so much flak for scoring runs in IPL at the strike rate of around 115. Tendulkar does the same most of the times but receives more support from his teammates. KKR did not have anybody like Pollard, Sharma etc."

Spoo: "MI/SRT tend to take the low risk approach where they don't try to win the match by scoring 180+ and risk getting bowled out under 120. The would rather score 150+ consistently and then rely on their bowling with Malinga and Bhajji."

Half-centuries from Rayudu and Tendulkar, and some late hitting from Pollard and Rohit helping Mumbai to 159, which should take some chasing against Mumbai's strong attack. Both left-arm spinners, Bipul and Bhargav, did well, going for around six an over
