Indian Premier League, 62nd match: Pune Warriors v Deccan Chargers at Mumbai, May 16, 2011
Deccan Chargers won by 6 wickets (with 4 balls remaining)
16 May 2011 - night match (20-over match)

JP Duminy is going to open the bowling.

And Ram has this observation. "My Statistics is that Deccan never lost a match when Firdose Moonda is the commentator. So is it a Deccan game today?" Well, we're about to find out.

Kaustubh says "FeedBacker .. sounds like a soccer field position !!" Yes, that what I call all of you that send messages in. Feedbacker. We can be the goalkeepers.

And I have to make special mention of the match referee today Devdas Govindjee who is from South Africa. Yes, I am mentioning him because I am from South Africa too. Lovely man, from Port Elizabeth.

Naman Kumar hopes what a lot of cricket fans will be hoping. "I hope Robin Uthappa fires for the Warriors today, he hasn't played up to his expectations thus far in the tournament... Would love to see him hit some out of the park!"

James suggests why Dan Christian is stll in the side. "Would it be unfair to suggest that the only reason Dan Christian keeps his place is because Deccan paid far too much for him?" Yes, perhaps so.

Gareth won't be the only one thinking this. "I can't believe Rusty is still sitting on the bench, he's a real T20 specialist. I reckon Rusty and Murali must be the most confused men in the IPL."

Finally, we have a feebacker. Sjjraman is the first to write in. "It would be nice if Pune beats Deccan, KKR & DD, KingsXI beats RCB or Deccan only one of them and Kochin beats CSK. All 4 teams Pune,KKR,KXIP and KTK with 14 points would make it interesting the last league match KKR Vs. Mumbai."

It's a quiet day on the feedback front today, I hope these two teams haven't lost support already. Deccan have had a miserable season, as Sanga says, it's frustsrating when you have good players and you don't perform. Yuvi's Pune Warriors have also had it rough, but they seem to be gelling now.

19:30 Toss Kumar Sangakkara has won the toss and Deccan will field.

It's the Sri Lankans last game of this IPL and he thinks the wicket might do a bit early on. Dale Steyn is back in the Deccan starting XI and Michael Lumb sits out. That means Dan Christian holds on to his place.

Yuvraj Singh says he would have bowled as well on this pitch. Mithun Manhas replaces Srikant Wagh for the Warriors.

19:20 Good evening and welcome to our coverage of the 62nd match of the IPL, between Pune and Deccan.

The Chargers are out of contention but Pune still have something to play for, however small their hopes are. Abhishek Purohit's preview explains how much there is to play for, while our stats editor S Rajesh has the qualification scenarios for you to read here.

Duminy to Ryder, no run, and there's an appeal immediately. Raps Ryder on the pad and it's very optimistic. Looks to be going over leg and middle. Ryder also got an inside edge on that

Duminy to Ryder, 1 run, first runs, Ryder is on the back foot and pushed that through the covers, now to see how Pandey handles the spin, and it should be well

Duminy to Pandey, FOUR, and it is well. That's slightly short and Pandey can make room to cut through point. Teja makes an attempt to save it but can't

Duminy to Pandey, 1 run, straighter this time and Pandey is on the pull, not timed very well and he only gets one

Duminy to Ryder, SIX, this is costly. Ryder comes down the track and mis-hits it over long off. That was with the toe-end of the bat but it still went miles

Duminy to Ryder, 2 runs, tossed up and invites the drive, Ryder pushes it past short third man, in the air a little but safe

End of over 1 (14 runs) Pune Warriors 14/0 (RR: 14.00)

    • JD Ryder 9 (4b 1x6)
    • MK Pandey 5 (2b 1x4)
    • JP Duminy 1-0-14-0

Steyn to Pandey, no run, Steyn shares the new ball, two South Africans now and he's getting some away movement, Pandey leaves alone

Steyn to Pandey, 1 run, Pandey goes back and nudges this down onto his feet, sets off for the run quickly and gets it

Steyn to Ryder, no run, back of a length delivery on middle and leg, Ryder looks to whip away on the leg side, but doesn't really get hold of it

Steyn to Ryder, no run, a little bit of width outside off, Ryder goes back and looks to punch through the covers but again, doesn't get hold of it well enough

Steyn to Ryder, no run, slightly shorter and pushed to point, Ryder looking a little too measured

Steyn to Ryder, 3 runs, pushed to deep mid-wicket, Ryder swings around quickly to position it into the open space there. Pandey wants three and good running gets them that, comfortably, in fact

End of over 2 (4 runs) Pune Warriors 18/0 (RR: 9.00)

    • JD Ryder 12 (8b 1x6)

Sharma to Pandey, no run, back of a length now and Pandey defends it back to Ishant

Sharma to Pandey, 2 runs, oooohhh, that's lucky. Short ball, quicker as well, and Pandey pulls with his eyes closed, just about and it could have gone anywhere, It went to fine leg, and Steyn had to chase, but it was in the air a while

Steyn to Ryder, no run, Steyn bangs one in short and Ryder looks to cut away, possibly upper cut, but he swings and misses

Steyn to Ryder, FOUR, full toss on legstump and that's too inviting for Ryder not to gobble up. He clips it away from the pads and it races through to fine leg for four

Steyn to Ryder, no run, Steyn still looking to swing it in, goes short again, and Ryder walks across his stumps to try to flick on the legside, he misses and Sanga collects outside the ine of leg, not called wide, and rightly so

Steyn to Ryder, 1 run, driven this time, to mid-on, that area is being marshalled and there's just one

Steyn to Pandey, 1 run, short again from Steyn and Pandey pulls, mistimed again, he is looking uncomfortable with this shot. It goes high and to fine leg, Sharam makes good gorund but can't get to it

Sharma to Pandey, no run, good length and inside edged onto the pads

Sharma to Pandey, no run, length ball outside off and just nips away. Pandey is still waiting for the short ball and that beats him totally

SC Ganguly c Ojha b Christian 0 (5b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

Christian to Uthappa, FOUR, bit too much width outside off, that didn't require too mcuh work to steer into the gap to the third man boundary. Successful over for Christian none the less

Steyn to Marsh, 1 run, lovely shot for one. Smacked down to deep extra, Marsh stands nice and tall and gets hold of it, only one though

Mishra to Parnell, 1 wide, bit too much on that, down the leg side and its wide

Dileep makes an interesting point about the freelance cricketing thay going on. "Many IPL playing players will play SPL, which is scheduled to commence from July 19. If the both IPL and SPL team in which these players will play, selected for Champions leage (CL) T20, then from which team they will play in CL?"

While Paneendra has this to say about over reliance. "Why are people complaining about Pune dependent on Yuvraj and Delhi on Sehwag. RCB is also totally dependent on Gayle, just that he has never failed"

Mishra to Parnell, 1 run, there's the legbreak, flicked off the hips for one

Steyn to Marsh, 1 run, turned to short fine, good over for Pune from these two, the last one is coming up

End of over 19 (9 runs) Pune Warriors 121/7 (RR: 6.36)

Prashant: It didn't even look like they were recovering but somehow Pune has managed to reach 136. Good total, I would say, considering DC's propensity to implode.

Join us in a few for the chase.

So Pune end on 136, they won't be too unhappy with that, considering that they were 45 for 5 at one stage. . Mishra: Very happy with my form. It's a good wicket to bowl on and Yuvraj was looking good. Against him, there's no plan, just try to contain him. The wicket is good, there's good bounce and good spin. I'm really happy to be going to the West Indies. Thanks to my family and my supporting. I'm trying my best to get back into the Test team.
