Indian Premier League, Final: Chennai Super Kings v Royal Challengers Bangalore at Chennai, May 28, 2011
Chennai Super Kings won by 58 runs
28 May 2011 - night match (20-over match)

Aravind to Hussey, 1 run, short of a length and wide of off stump, Hussey mistimes the cut straight to Kohli at point. Kohli needlessly throws at the bowler's end, with Vijay not looking for a single at all. Overthrow conceded.

Aravind to Vijay, 3 runs, some trademark Vijay timing on that, and there are two yellow-shirted gazelles sprinting between the wickets. Short of a length angling in gently, Vijay stays back in the crease and whips it off the back foot wide of mid on. How did they pick up three there? Superb running.

Aravind to Hussey, no run, perilously close to thew off stump as Aravind gets one to hold the line outside off stump and Hussey feels for it just inside the line.

Aravind to Hussey, 1 run, quietly nudges the single this time, Hussey stays back and pushes towards mid-on for one.

Aravind to Vijay, no run, short of a length and angling across Vijay who is decisively forward and pushes into the covers.

Aravind to Vijay, SIX, that's a shot Vijay can play in his sleep. That's a shot you can wake up from your sleep to watch. Short of a length ball, the kind coaches advice you to bowl. Can't drive, can't pull. Unless you are Vijay. He just reaches a foot across and then wallops it off the front foot emphatically in front of midwicket.

Aravind to Hussey, 1 run, Hussey survives a run-out. Very full on the pads from Aravind, Hussey blocks it and finds Vijay is almost at his end. He responds late, but was not even in the frame as Aravind collected in his follow through and tried to hit the stumps at the bowler's end. Miss. Kohli, backing up, could not get around soon enough.

Aravind to Vijay, 1 wide, short ball, slips well down the leg side. Wide, almost on two counts.

Aravind to Vijay, SIX, with his short hair cut, unkempt stubble and similar build, Vijay does remind me of Dhoni. He's hitting sixes just as well as that man, today, but with a little more finesse. Length from Aravind. Poor, poor length. Vijay reaches out and deposits him well over cow corner.

Aravind to Vijay, 2 runs, this time he goes off side, lofting him cheekily over the infield for two more.

Aravind to Vijay, 1 run, on the pads, Aravind is all over the place in this over. Vijay whips through midwicket, and thankfully for RCB they have protection there.

Aravind to Hussey, 1 run, on the Huss' pads and he works it through square leg for one more.

Aravind to Vijay, SIX, this is slaughter, and Aravind the lamb is walking into it. He's serving up freebies in Vijay's hitting arc and Vijay's swinging away without a fuss. Another short of length ball that comes in and sits up like an early Christmas gift. Vijay smacks it off the front foot over midwicket. This is too easy to be true for Vijay.

Chennai Super Kings 121/0   S Aravind 2-0-29-0

Aravind to Vijay, OUT, tomorrow morning, Vijay will wake up and kick himself for giving away a century that was there for the taking. But for a man who has been barely able to stand on his feet for the last 30 minutes or so, 95 is not bad at all. That too in a final. Aravind keeps it full and outside off, Vijay looks to go big over the off side but toe-ends it to cover inside the circle. End of a stunningly sublime innings.

M Vijay c Vettori b Aravind 95 (52b 4x4 6x6) SR: 182.69

Aravind to Dhoni, OUT, wickets are like London buses for Bangalore. None come for hours on end, and suddenly two in quick succession. Dhoni gets a juicy full toss outside off and smashes it straight to long-on.

MS Dhoni c Kohli b Aravind 22 (13b 0x4 2x6) SR: 169.23

Aravind to Raina, no run, short ball straight away, and nearly a hat-trick for the team. Raina doesn't like these short balls, he hangs back in the crease and taps the pull to square leg. He wanted one, Morkel didn't and Vettori misses with Raina well out.

Aravind to Raina, 1 wide, another bouncer, this time too short and it is called a wide.

Aravind to Raina, SIX, we have seen a few sixes today, and I dare say this was the best. Raina knows another short ball may be round the corner, so you think he is going to be a little late to move forward when Aravind pitches it up outside off. Nothing like it. Raina reaches out, gets outside the line and bangs it over extra cover, on the up, inside out. That hardly took off, but easily cleared the rope.

Aravind to Raina, 1 run, another short ball, this time Raina mistimes the pull to an untenanted wide long-on area for a single.

Aravind to Morkel, 2 runs, Morkel gets a short ball too, and drags the pull shot away through midwicket. Raina hurries through and Morkel responds for the second. The batsmen may be different, but the running remains just as good.
