Azhar Mahmood's visa issues resolved

Azhar Mahmood, the former Pakistan allrounder, has received a visa to play across Indian cities in the IPL for Kings XI Punjab. He had initially experienced a delay in receiving his visa, and then got one that was valid only for Delhi and Chandigarh.

Mahmood confirmed the news in a tweet on Wednesday afternoon.

On Monday, Mahmood, who is now a British citizen, had said that the issue was not political and was likely to be solved quickly. "The guy who made the visa only entered the name of my entry point into the country [Delhi] and destination [Chandigarh]," Hindustan Times quoted him as saying. "It's just procedural and not a political issue, and should get sorted out in a couple of days."

Mahmood was bought by Kings XI at the auction in February for $200,000. He was expected to be available for selection from the beginning of the IPL but missed the franchise's first four games due to the visa issues. He will be available for their fifth game on Wednesday evening against Kolkata Knight Riders at home.

@ Vivian_Richard :- You have a point. but here even that should not be the case because now Azhar Mahmood is a British Citizen, Playing cricket all around the year in England and no cricket in Pakistan.

Azhar Mahmood justified himself in the very first match by scoring 33* from just 14 balls. great srike rate. though his bowling did not click very well courtesy Gayle and AB.

I can't understand this. If Pakistani politicians can come to India, why not cricketers? Seriously? Azhar Mahmood is such and 'important' player in the line up? That smacks of the shoddy line up that Kings XI have. Not even sure if they should continue with the same name.

Well, Whats the point in proving whether Azhar Mahmood is a British or a Pakistani???

    btw Who Cares?????

For all his fans its a good news that he will be playing for Kings XI Punjab, and for the rest of us, it doesn't really matter. We like KP, Sachin, Afridi, Wasim, Ganguly, Ponting, Gayle etc not because of their nationalities but purely because they are/were great entertainers.... I hope that helps.

Isn't a slightest bit surprised to see him invading thru a third Country. It always happened in the past through Nepal, Bangla and now England. Anyhow wish Azhar best of luck.

All the best Azhar for the IPL about time your visa has been sorted, better late than never... Hopefully this paves the way for Pakistani players too.. considering that they are very good T20 players..
