Big Picture

After ten games, Royal Challengers Bangalore are still struggling to make the top four. Last year's runners-up have just two wins at home (and a point from a washout) and they have a chance to improve that record when they take on the bottom-placed Deccan Chargers. The biggest worry for Royal Challengers is their bowling. Their captain, Daniel Vettori, is not striking enough and none of their other strike bowlers are even close to challenging the leading wicket-takers so far. Vettori had even offered to drop himself to accommodate Muttiah Muralitharan, but the Sri Lankan offspinner was against such a move, saying Vettori has a right to play every game as captain. It may not be a bad idea to bring in Murali nevertheless, as he has eight wickets from four games. Royal Challengers have lost two in a row and must come up with a bowling combination to complement their explosive batsmen if they are to script a turnaround.

For Chargers, apart from glossing over defeats, their coach Darren Lehmann must be sick of talking about fielding lapses. Chargers spilled and misfielded against Pune Warriors, but it didn't cost them because their batsmen provided the cushion of runs. The old habits returned against Chennai Super Kings, where they ended up chasing around 20 more than they should have. They're still waiting on JP Duminy to recover from his finger injury. He missed the last game against Super Kings and is a doubtful starter in Bangalore as well.

2011 head-to-head

These teams played each other once last year, with Chargers winning by 33 runs in Hyderabad.

Players to watch

Zaheer Khan may be Royal Challengers' leading wicket-taker with nine wickets from ten games, but he's still bowling below his potential. His team needs a match-winning performance or two to shore up the bowling attack.

Cameron White has scored 78, 74 and 77 in his last four innings. He had a disappointing 2011 season but has bounced back with some telling contributions. His partnership with Kumar Sangakkara in Cuttack won Chargers the game, but he lacked adequate support against Super Kings.

Stats and trivia

  • Chris Gayle has bowled just one over in this IPL. He gave away 21 runs.
  • Chargers lead the head-to-head between the two sides with five wins in nine games.

Quotes

"I have seen the pitch. It looks fast. Pace and bounce in it is normal. It is a good wicket as expected."
Darren Lehmann on the Chinnaswamy pitch

"I will opt out if it is needed. I have said from the start that we need to get out four overseas players and we do that every game. If it's right for me to sit down then it's fine with me."
Daniel Vettori on the possibility of dropping himself for Murali

if vettori wants to drop himself, he should bring in nannes for himself and bring in murali for mcdonald. in the kxip game the track was good for seamers so playing an extra seamer may help

Time has come Akash Bhandari be included for Amit Mishra as most of the young cricketers are performing well in IPL-5.Fielding is the concerned area also they can try Akshath Reddy .

DC should take sanga, white, steyn and Theron/harris ....This would surely be the winning team!!....Christian doesnt play in india he only plays well out of the subcontinent so better include the above 4 and get back to winning ways as still there is a chance to mke it to playoffs!....Go chargers Go!!!!!!!

my team for rcb in the samebatting order will be :

gayle, agarwal, diviliers, kohli, tiwari, pujara, asad pathan, daniel vetori, vinay kumar, zaheer khan, nannes/murali

u dont need 5 bowlingoptions as even after playing 5 specialsts they are going for plenty......so give a proper bowling to chris gayle and may be virat can role his arm over a bit as well :)

hmm so cam white is basically demanding being in the aussie side for the world t20? when a player of his stature is in form you cant not pick him

Sanga..mind u there is still a CHANCE of getting in to top 4....so dnt give up! 1st exclude Christian..he is none all rounder! He give pathetic mood to whole team..he didnt play when DC won both their games!! look @ RR they lost 4 consecutive matches. But yesterday they made lot of changes to their team and made the right combination and won the game simply coz of that!! So why cnt DC do the same? So if Duminy isnt recoverd yet, then include Theron.coz RCBs strength is battings.so u need to stop likes of Gayle, AB and Kholi. its not possible only with steyn!RCBs weak link is bowling. So it dosent matter to have only 2 foriegn batsmen. In any case if u feel another batsmen is needed then include harris.he only played 1 game.and what is A.Mishra doing?he drops a catch in every cruisal game.. exclude him coz im sure Gayle will punish him.. Patel isnt doing enough even when keeping and openning the innigs.Sanga u got to KEEP THE WICKETS..it will help for sure! Let Abhishek.j to open the innings as there will be right hand left hand combination. Veer pratap might not have done much wrong.but as DC need to strengthen there middle order include samantray.but not like earlier, give him a chance to bowl in 1st 10 overs.he will be usefull.and try this combination which u never tried before! I bet this will work. 1.Dhawan 2.Abhishek 3.Sanga 4.White 5.Patel 6.Devdhar 7.Samantray 8.Reddy 9.A.sharma 10.Steyn 11.Theron. Better late than never.. Gd luck Sanga and DC!!!

DC have consolidated their position at the bottom of the table....will never rise from their...world class players like sanga and steyn dont deserve such a horrible team, DC anyways was not interested in winning IPL....they are more interested in making money...how can they sell players like ojha and pietersen..indian players are horrible in dc except dhawan...surely will be the first team to finish last twice in 5 ipl seasons....
