Tamim signs for Pune Warriors

Pune Warriors have signed up Bangladesh batsman Tamim Iqbal, filling all their overseas slots for the coming season. Tamim, whose signing was formalised on Wednesday, became the eleventh overseas player for the Warriors and their second signing this week after Australian captain Michael Clarke.

Tamim and the franchise management, led by their captain Sourav Ganguly, had been involved in talks for the past week. He joins Shakib Al Hasan as the second Bangladesh player in this year's IPL, and the fifth from that country in the tournament overall.

"I can gain a lot of experience by playing with greats like Sourav Ganguly and Michael Clarke. I like to talk a lot about cricket so I think I am lucky to be playing with them and look forward to learn new things," Tamim told ESPNCricinfo.

"It'll be an extra boost, so it is very important that I do well. More importantly, just like Shakib opened the door for me, I would want that with my inclusion in the IPL, it will let other players from my country to play in this competition.

"With the T20 World Cup coming up this year, it will be a big opportunity for me to perform in the format," Tamim said.

Tamim would look to carry his form into the IPL - he hit four half-centuries in the recent Asia Cup - given his failure during the Bangladesh Premier League last month where he only played two matches for the Chittagong Kings and scored only eight runs.

Now at least Bangladeshis won't cry over IPL being useless tournament :D Anyway, with Greame Smith being injured Tamim is likely to open the innings. And being a neutral fan, I hope Team's think tank have brain and they do allow Tamim to play every match that too as an opener.

It will be a sad experience for Tamim if he is kept on the side line. Considering his current form I am very hopefull that Saurav will give him a chance to play. We all know Tamim has a natural ability to strike but had to change his game for the team's sake. If he is given with the chance to just go for big hits which is atumatic for T20 match, with a little luck this guy can come real handy, hope it works for Pune, all de best to dada and tamim..

Let's see can he open in the 1st Game of Pune? He'll have to fight hard to take place in regular 11. He had proven his class in TEST & ODI. Now it's time to prove himself as a t-20 opener.

He is going to open with Smith I believe. Some players are in International tour.

Dada is playing his cards wisely. He is a mastermind, without participating in auction by PWI, he managed to get the good players. This time PWI are underdogs to crack the show. My playing XI is : 1. Smith/Harshad Khadiwale , 2. Tamim Iqbal/Marlon Samuels, 3. S Ganguly, 4. Manish Pandey/ Jessey Ryder, 5. Machale Clarke/ Luke Wright, 6. Robin Utappa/Ekalavya Dwivedi, 7.
