Quintessential Bangalore rain - rarely heavy but frustratingly incessant - did not allow the game between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings to start after the toss had taken place at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. The teams shared a point each, which moved Super Kings from fifth to third, and Royal Challengers from seventh to fourth in the league.

The toss was delayed by the drizzle for a little more than an hour, and when it finally took place, it was Virat Kohli and not Daniel Vettori who came out as captain of the home side. Kohli said Vettori had a niggle, and he decided to bowl after MS Dhoni called incorrectly.

Royal Challengers had replaced Vettori with Australian allrounder Andrew McDonald, who was almost a like for like substitution. It was the only change to the XI that beat Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur.

Super Kings had made two changes, leaving out Doug Bollinger and Shadab Jakati and bringing in Albie Morkel, who returned from South Africa, and Yo Mahesh.

Shortly before the game was due to begin, though, it began to rain again. Through the evening its intensity lessened at times, giving the spectators hope, before it picked up again. The match was eventually abandoned at 11 pm local time. It was still raining. The cut-off for a five-over match was 11.20 pm.

It was the second washout of IPL 2012, after the game between Kolkata Knight Riders and Deccan Chargers had met a similar fate at Eden Gardens last night.

Comments from RCB and CSK fans are more funny than the game :). But damn rain. I missed Sir Ravinder Jadeja's action. Damn Damn.

@Iyer I like your idea, why not increase the number of overs and days say to a maximum of 5 days and have two innings to double the excitement, now that would be a test.

Hellooooo RCB fans see you if your team qualifies for the knock out stage...either rain or gayle saves RCB every time :)))

Whoever says that CSK were spared by luck should go and watch Cartoon network. Any person with some kind of brain would say that CSK is easily the most TeamWork - oriented team. Unlike other teams dependent on 2-3 players. MI - SRT, Malinga. RCB - GAYLE (huge dependence), AB De V. CSK would have given a ROYAL SUPER thrashing to RCB. CSK ROX! You guys think that Winning the IPL 2 times + CLT20 is a big joke. RCB is still yet to recover from that great chase by CSK. CSk = IPL x 3! ROAR!

@Siddharth Gupta, "All talking abt MSD as a Messiah, seem to have forgotten the brilliant tours we had to England and Australia! If a captain gets the credit for victories (like he gets for the World Cup, IPL, CL), he should be responsible for defeat as well."

Yes Dhoni will be held responsible for defeats, but i guess we need to understand that no one performed during those tours excepting Dravid in England and Kohli in Australia...

Yes, Dhoni's captaincy in tests isnt good.. Accepted but at the moment who else can captain India in tests? Not kohli for sure.. maybe Gambhir but he gets tensed a lot which we can see from how he handles pressure during this IPL itself...

Sehwag has attitude issues as we all know... Sorry to say that to All Sehwag fans though. really did not like him washing the linen in public in Australia...

We need a level heeded guy as a captain... and yes there needs to be a change in captaincy in tests after the 8-0 bashing overseas...

If it is rained out, the game should be played the next day. If not next day, fit in some other day during the league phase. It is stupid to play reduced overs / share points. The result in T20 game has become so unpredictable like the toss of a coin, as the game is played in just 120 balls, with still 10 wickets. If the game is reduced to 5 overs each due to rain, it would be stupid. 30 balls for a team with 10 wickets in hand. Also duckworth lewis should be banned in T20. Teams should be allowed to play their full quota of innings, even if it means playing the next day or later. Yesterday's decision to share the points between bengaluru and madras was not fair to either both the teams or rest of the teams in the pool.

To all RCB fans stop saying CSK is lucky. we are the only team consistent through out the IPL edition. As every one said with out gayle you would not have played the finals last year and this year also if gayle or AB did not play well in the rest of the tournament you will be shaking hands with deccan chargers in the bottom of the table...

RCB had a good chance to win after winning the toss on a flat pitch. RCB batsmen are in red hot form and are in a position to chase down any big score.. CSK would consider themselves lucky to get a point..

Feel sad looking at these kind of comments over IPL! So much regionalism; as if we didnt have enough issues to deal with already!

It's a game and treat it like that! You need some amount of luck to win. So, no point talking abt one team being lucky and winning only becasue of that. they would have done lot of other things right.

All talking abt MSD as a Messiah, seem to have forgotten the brilliant tours we had to England and Australia! If a captain gets the credit for victories (like he gets for the World Cup, IPL, CL), he should be responsible for defeat as well.

PS: What a football game last night...
