Indian Premier League - Final

Kolkata Knight Riders v Chennai Super Kings

Kolkata Knight Riders won by 5 wickets (with 2 balls remaining)

7.59 pm: The Kolkata team is out, so are the Chennai openers, Michael Hussey and Murali Vijay. Brett Lee will take the new ball to get us started with the proceedings.

Thanks Abhishek. Wonder what readers make of the McCullum decision. Should they have continued with him at the top? Or were they left with no option?

jokerdino: "Following the trend of other big matches, I am a little surprised Narine is not left out in this one."

sidharth: "MSD has never had a great record at winning tosses but on a day where toss will play a crucial role he wins!"

james: "Big loss losing Balaji, and WOW not playing McCullum - that seems like a very silly move. Whilst he's been average this season, he is a PROVEN big match player both in IPL and Internationally. KKR are likely to be chasing a good score against very good bowlers."

arvind: "Playing two left arm spinners against the likes of Morkel and Raina is a very big risk."

And another one on Narine, ankit says, "Crunch game. Balaji injured. Balance to be restored. KKR should have dropped Sunil Narine instead of McCullum. Oh well, not everyone is a Daredevil."

7.45 pm Manoj Tiwary is back into the team as well. He replaces Debabrata Das. Over to Suneer for the first half of the innings.

MS Dhoni wins the toss and CSK will have a bat

MS Dhoni: "Pitch has a bit more grass roots into it, depends on how much they have rolled it, I don't think it should spin much." He jokes, "We were quite consistent during the league stage, we won one and lost one."

CSK are unchanged.

Gautam Gambhir: "I have always maintained quality is quality [talking about his spinners]." Balaji's hamstring injury has not healed, Brett Lee comes into the XI. That means Brendon McCullum sits out, and Manvinder Bisla comes in.

Losing Balaji is a blow alright. but his replacement is not too bad. Also, losing out on McCullum isn't that big a blow, he was not exactly hitting them out of the park this season. Bisla is a better bet against the CSK spinners.

7.30 pm Danny Morrison walks out slowly to the middle with the two captains, and "hands" them over to the birthday boy Ravi Shastri, who takes over and does what he does best. He hollers, for one last time this IPL season.

7.25 pm The attention has been on CSK for their sluggish form in the league stage, and their dominant display in the playoffs. But how much does this final mean for KKR? The joke of the IPL for the first three seasons, they completely changed their squad in 2011, and are now reaping the rewards.

7.15 pm Contrasting personalities, the captains of the two finalists. One who does not like to show emotion, and almost always maintains the same inscrutable face, in victory and defeat. Under fire as India captain after their reversals in England and Australia.

One man who does not hide his feelings at all on the field. Deposed from the India vice-captaincy recently.

Siddarth Ravindran says that the leadership of MS Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir has been an extension of their personalities. Read

7.05 pm Speaking of CSK, yes, they are in the final once again, their third consecutive one, and fourth in five seasons of the IPL. They are like Australia were in the ODI World Cups, like Bombay were in the Ranji Trophy. Bombay once won the Ranji Trophy 15 times on the trot. Yes, fifteen. If you had to win the Ranji Trophy, you had to get past Bombay. If you have to win the IPL, you have to get past CSK.

This is how our assistant editor George Binoy begins his preview for the final - "They are here, again. Those resilient, stubborn Chennai Super Kings." Have a read.

George ends with this - "If they perform like they have this season, Knight Riders have little reason to worry. Whether they can perform in their first final, against opponents seasoned to such pressure, is the question." Indeed, it is.

7 pm Gavaskar says that the final will be played on the same pitch on which CSK chased 205 against RCB in the league stage. They needed 43 off the last two overs. And then, there was Albie Morkel.

Gavaskar also says that the team winning the toss should want to bat first. He thinks that if KKR do so, it will be better for their battery of spinners, led by Sunil Narine. Narine's reaction when he was bought for $700,000 in the IPL auction by KKR - "Oh shit, no way, man." Nagraj Gollapudi has more here.

6.55 pm There is plenty of time to go for the toss. Meanwhile, take a shot at our IPL caption contest.

6.50 pm Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings are practising in the background as Sunil Gavaskar says that, as an 'orthodox batsman', he likes the number of cricketing shots, and not slogs, played this season. If you say so, Mr Gavaskar

6.45 pm After seventy-two league games, and three playoff matches, we are down to the final of the Indian Premier League, which begins in just over an hour's time at the Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. For a second, I thought of typing 'Chennai' the way Danny Morrison (or Ravi Shastri) shout out the city names at the toss, but then, all in good time.

Welcome to our coverage of the IPL final, I am Abhishek Purohit and along with Suneer Chowdhary, will be bringing you the action tonight

0.1

Lee to Hussey, no run, pitched up, outside the off stump, pushed to the extra-cover fielder

So it is an Aussie to another. Could be an exciting couple of overs.

0.2

Lee to Hussey, no run, outside the off stump, short of length, shoulders arms and its through to the keeper

Emil: "Everyone talks about Narine as KKR's advantage, no one talks about the match being played in Chennai, CSK's fortress, a big home advantage."

0.3

Lee to Hussey, 2 runs, outside the off stump and short of length, he cuts it away, almost like he rolled his wrist over the ball and through the backward point region, the third-man, Narine had to run to his right and before he can throw it back they come back for the second

0.4

Lee to Hussey, 1 run, on the middle, slightly fuller and driven away to wide mid-on for a single, bit of an inside edge

crkeyan: "Brett Lee is a big match player. KKR decision is perfect."

0.5

Lee to Vijay, no run, short of length, on the off stump and on the back foot, he pushes it to the covers, no half volley, slow delivery to be hit first up for Vijay this game.

0.6

Lee to Vijay, no run, another one short of good length, and it is pushed away to point, Tiwary dives to his right to field

End of over 1 (3 runs) Chennai Super Kings 3/0 (RR: 3.00)
M Vijay    0* (2b)      B Lee    1-0-3-0
MEK Hussey    3* (4b)

Good first over from Lee. Better than the one that Delhi doled out to Chennai last match.

shiva: "@James - I dont know which BIG match you are talking about wrt McCullum. Irrespective of the selection, i think Chennai does not have to score too many against Narine as they are batting first and that reduces a bowler's wicket taking ability."

Shakib to bowl.

1.1

Shakib Al Hasan to Hussey, no run, round the stumps, on his pads, wants to reverse sweep but to the short third-man, did not hit it hard enough

1.2

Shakib Al Hasan to Hussey, 1 run, on the middle stump, he goes on to his back foot and pushes it to deep mid-wicket for a single

zaeb: "I don't understand why this hue and cry over McCullum.. i take it is a blessing in disguise, its not a secret that McCullum is not that good against spinners as he is against pace bowlers, so playing Bisla and Lee will be a master stroke."

1.3

Shakib Al Hasan to Vijay, 1 run, flighted up, round the stumps, driven to long-off for Vijay to get his score moving

1.4

Shakib Al Hasan to Hussey, no run, shorter, quicker and pushed to the leg side, Vijay wanted to come for the single, Hussey refused because he was on the back foot, Gambhir throws it down at the non-striker's end, misses and Vijay is in

1.5

Shakib Al Hasan to Hussey, no run, on the off stump, Hussey is on the back foot again and he plays it back to the bowler

1.6

Shakib Al Hasan to Hussey, 1 run, on the middle stump, out comes the reverse sweep yet again, misses the middle of the bat, goes to backward point for a single

End of over 2 (3 runs) Chennai Super Kings 6/0 (RR: 3.00)
MEK Hussey    5* (9b)      Shakib Al Hasan    1-0-3-0
M Vijay    1* (3b)      B Lee    1-0-3-0

Brett Lee continues.

2.1

Lee to Hussey, no run, on the off stump, does not come on to the bat, wanted to drive it through the covers but not off the middle and it goes back to the bowler

2.2

Lee to Hussey, FOUR, shimmy down the pitch and hits it over the bowler for a four, he had played 10 balls for his five and finally tastes a boundary

2.3

Lee to Hussey, 1 run, on the off stump, 144.8 km/hr, short of length and he punches it to mid-off for a quick single

rahul: "MSD facing Narine in the current form he is in during the death overs will be fascinating - can't wait! In fact even Bravo, Albie, Raina facing him should be great since they are such aggressive players naturally."

2.4

Lee to Vijay, 1 run, short of length and he pushes it off the back foot to the left of the bowler, Lee runs towards the ball, slides and wants to throw down the stumps at the non-striker's end, all in one motion, just fumbled with the pick-up though.

2.5

Lee to Hussey, 1 leg bye, on his pads, 143.8 km/hr, wants to flick it away, misses the shot, hits the pads and it loops up to the off side, rush off a leg-bye

2.6

Lee to Vijay, FOUR, short ball and that has been tonked, almost off the front foot over mid-on for a four, 146.1 km/hr and went equally quickly!

End of over 3 (11 runs) Chennai Super Kings 17/0 (RR: 5.66)
M Vijay    6* (5b 1x4)      B Lee    2-0-13-0
MEK Hussey    10* (13b 1x4)      Shakib Al Hasan    1-0-3-0

3.1

Shakib Al Hasan to Hussey, SIX, top-edged but that has gone over fine-leg for six, it was round the wicket, bit shorter, and he sweeps it away over the short fine-leg fielder for a maximum

3.2

Shakib Al Hasan to Hussey, no run, on the middle stump, pitched up and defended back to the bowler

3.3

Shakib Al Hasan to Hussey, FOUR, and now comes the reverse sweep and beats the short third-man too, for four. That was the third such attempt at reverse sweep, third time lucky!

Change in field, mid-wicket is out to the off side.

3.4

Shakib Al Hasan to Hussey, 2 runs, short of length and it has been knocked away through that very region where the mid-wicket fielder was, they run rather well to come back for the second and easily at that

3.5

Shakib Al Hasan to Hussey, 1 run, on the off stump, short to Hussey again, easily nudges it away to the leg side for a single

3.6

Shakib Al Hasan to Vijay, 1 run, down the track and slammed away to wide long-on for a couple, it was pitched up and Vijay wanted to go over, beat the mid-on fielder but the deep mid-wicket fielder is able to run across and stop it

End of over 4 (14 runs) Chennai Super Kings 31/0 (RR: 7.75)
M Vijay    7* (6b 1x4)      Shakib Al Hasan    2-0-17-0
MEK Hussey    23* (18b 2x4 1x6)      B Lee    2-0-13-0

shriram: "The biggest advantage for Chennai batting first is that they have negated Narine threat in a big way. Now we might see him suffer the same Fate as Malinga who would have had better figures if they were bowling second."

Short run called. So only one run last ball.

4.1

Narine to Hussey, no run, on the off stump, turning away slightly, pushed off the back foot to the covers

4.2

Narine to Hussey, 1 run, on his pads, flicked away to short fine-leg for a single, the fielder was very fine but right on the circle.

Vijay to play Narine now.

4.3

Narine to Vijay, no run, outside the off stump, on the front foot, wants to drive it, spins into the batsman and misses the inside edge

4.4

Narine to Vijay, 2 runs, on the front foot, pushes it to the mid-wicket region, they take a single and are able to just about come back for the second, had that hit direct at the striker's end, could just have been close

4.5

Narine to Vijay, no run, shorter from Narine, goes on to his back foot, wants to cut it away, but goes to the covers fielder

4.6

Narine to Vijay, 1 run, pitched fuller on his pads, takes the full toss and drives to leg side for a single

End of over 5 (4 runs) Chennai Super Kings 35/0 (RR: 7.00)
M Vijay    10* (10b 1x4)      SP Narine    1-0-4-0
MEK Hussey    24* (20b 2x4 1x6)      Shakib Al Hasan    2-0-17-0

Good first over from Narine, almost a forced move from Gambhir after the start that CSK had. Lee is back, change in ends for him, interesting move.

5.1

Lee to Vijay, SIX, short of length and slapped over the bowler's head for a six! Gives himself room, moves to the leg stump and times it rather well, it was not a slow ball either at 142.5 km/hr

5.2

Lee to Vijay, no run, attempts another one, this time it was not as quick and it was shorter as well, 126.9 km/hr, wants to pull it away, misses

5.3

Lee to Vijay, 1 no ball, way down the leg side and it is not called a wide, but Chennai fans, fret not, it is a no-ball, he had over-stepped there! So a Free Hit for the man who has been hitting well last one game or so...

Replays suggest that it was a tough call.

5.3

Lee to Vijay, FOUR, flicked mis-hit over short fine-leg for a four, it was not as quick a bouncer as Vijay originally thought and he checked the stroke, still goes over the fielder

5.4

Lee to Vijay, 1 run, pitched right up to the bat, on his pads, opens his stance and flicks it away to mid-wicket for a single

shashank: "So what if Narine has to bowl now? If Narine is such a great Mystery Spinner, he should not have a problem if he has to bowl in the first innings or the second... Else do not rate him best... Simple."

5.5

Lee to Hussey, SIX, couple of steps and six! This was always going to be an interesting move, bringing Lee back and he has been taken to the cleaners now, goes down the pitch to a ball outside off and hits over the mid-off fielder for a six

5.6

Lee to Hussey, 1 run, pitched right up to the bat and easily pushed away to mid-off for a single

End of over 6 (19 runs) Chennai Super Kings 54/0 (RR: 9.00)
MEK Hussey    31* (22b 2x4 2x6)      B Lee    3-0-32-0
M Vijay    21* (15b 2x4 1x6)      SP Narine    1-0-4-0

This is an excellent start for a final. Six off the first two, 48 in the next four overs.

6.1

Iqbal Abdulla to Hussey, no run, reverse sweep attempted again, but to the third man within the circle, no run yet again

6.2

Iqbal Abdulla to Hussey, 1 run, on the middle stump, driven to long-on for a single

Quick change of bats for Vijay.

6.3

Iqbal Abdulla to Vijay, 2 runs, short of length, goes on to the back foot and creams it through the off side, straight to extra-cover, where there is a misfield and they are able to rush back for the second

6.4

Iqbal Abdulla to Vijay, FOUR, shimmy down the track and hit through the region between long-on and mid-wicket for another four, they are not holding back now

6.5

Iqbal Abdulla to Vijay, 2 runs, fuller on the off stump, down the wicket and drilled through the covers, easy couple of runs

6.6

Iqbal Abdulla to Vijay, no run, on the pads, short of length, pushed back to the bowler

End of over 7 (9 runs) Chennai Super Kings 63/0 (RR: 9.00)
M Vijay    29* (19b 3x4 1x6)      Iqbal Abdulla    1-0-9-0
MEK Hussey    32* (24b 2x4 2x6)      B Lee    3-0-32-0

Both batsmen are sweating profusely, look tired already. Humidity, as always, will be a factor.

Larry: "Doesn't matter when Narine bowls....it's always a high risk of getting out when u go after him!"

7.1

Kallis to Hussey, no run, outside the off stump, short of length, not too quick at sub-130 km/hr pace, driven to mid-off

Gareth: "Huge momentum swing. KKR have proven they struggle to chase anything over the 150 mark, which will be tougher on this surface. I'm not going to lie, I'm praying for a huge batting performance by Gauti and YK."

7.2

Kallis to Hussey, 1 run, on the pads, flicked away to fine-leg and they are able to run away for a single

7.3

Kallis to Vijay, 1 run, short of length, on the middle stump, nudged to the square-leg for a single

7.4

Kallis to Hussey, 1 wide, bouncer and too high, Hussey, for that fleeting moment wanted to go for the pull before pulling out and both umpires had their arms out

7.4

Kallis to Hussey, 1 run, slower on the off stump, Hussey slogs it over mid-wicket, does not get any timing on it and straight to the fielder

7.5

Kallis to Vijay, 1 no ball, another no-ball and this time it is for the height, bouncer attempted, this is above shoulder and the second one for the over

7.5

Kallis to Vijay, no run, short of length, flicked away to the leg side to mid-wicket

7.6

Kallis to Vijay, 1 run, slower one, on the off stump, neatly rolls his wrists to long-on for a single

End of over 8 (6 runs) Chennai Super Kings 69/0 (RR: 8.62)
M Vijay    31* (23b 3x4 1x6)      JH Kallis    1-0-6-0
MEK Hussey    34* (27b 2x4 2x6)      Iqbal Abdulla    1-0-9-0

Better over that and call for a Time-Out.

sherul: "Those of you who were wondering what might have happened if Morkel played against Chennai. Watch whats happening to Lee." Morkel was a Purple Cap holder, played all bar one game, in reasonable form. Got to go out with their best 11 in a crucial knock-out game.

ajay: "i hate the colour yellow. The aussies during last decade and now csk....they win everything!" Speaking of which, this Chennai Super Kings resurrection reminds one of the 1999 World Cup. By dropping Morkel last game, did Delhi 'drop' the cup?

Bhatia is in now. Bisla up to the stumps.

8.1

Bhatia to Vijay, 1 run, outside the off stump, Vijay wants to crash it over mid-wicket, gets bit of an inside edge through to deep mid-wicket for a single

8.2

Bhatia to Hussey, 1 run, short ball, off-spinning slower one as well, pulled away to deep square-leg for a single

8.3

Bhatia to Vijay, 2 runs, slogged away over to long-on yet again, it travels quickly to the fielder and Shakib has to run to his left to stop it by which time they get a couple

8.4

Bhatia to Vijay, FOUR, quicker one from Bhatia, fuller as well and Vijay casually drives it through the off side by opening the face of the bat through point for a four

8.5

Bhatia to Vijay, 1 run, on the off stump, rolling his fingers over and driven through the covers for a single

8.6

Bhatia to Hussey, FOUR, slogged away to the deep square-leg for a four, it was pitched on the length and he wanted to hit it over mid-wicket, gets an inside edge through to the fence!

End of over 9 (13 runs) Chennai Super Kings 82/0 (RR: 9.11)
MEK Hussey    39* (29b 3x4 2x6)      R Bhatia    1-0-13-0
M Vijay    39* (27b 4x4 1x6)      JH Kallis    1-0-6-0

Change of gloves now for Vijay. It is getting stickier, for the batsmen and for the KKR captain.

9.1

Kallis to Vijay, 1 run, on the middle stump, gets on to the front foot and punches it to long-on for a single

9.2

Kallis to Hussey, no run, slog attempted again, he wanted to go over mid-wicket, but the inside edge goes to the fielder but not for a run, which is a bit of a rarity

9.3

Kallis to Hussey, 1 run, on the leg stump, gets a bit of an outside edge, pushed away to off side

9.4

Kallis to Vijay, no run, moves away to outside the leg stump, wanted to cut it away, but misses the outside edge, through to the keeper

9.5

Kallis to Vijay, 2 runs, top-edge and over the wicket-keeper, again, giving himself room and wanting to slog it away, gets an edge and it almost beats the short fine-leg fielder, Bhatia who had run back

9.6

Kallis to Vijay, no run, and now Vijay attemps a cheeky shot, walks to the off side and wants to scoop it over short fine-leg, misses, outside the leg stump but not called a wide on account of that movement to the off

End of over 10 (4 runs) Chennai Super Kings 86/0 (RR: 8.60)
M Vijay    42* (31b 4x4 1x6)      JH Kallis    2-0-10-0
MEK Hussey    40* (31b 3x4 2x6)      R Bhatia    1-0-13-0

10.1

Bhatia to Hussey, 1 run, on the off, short of length, driven to long-on for a single

10.2

Bhatia to Vijay, OUT, slower one and what a catch! That was slogged away, wanted to go over deep square-leg, he does not get it in the middle, it was to the left of Shakib and he dived to catch that one, a bit of a send-off as well from the bowler!

M Vijay c Shakib Al Hasan b Bhatia 42 (32b 4x4 1x6) SR: 131.25

Thanks Suneer

Raina is in and as is Abhishek for the rest of the innings on commentary

10.3

Bhatia to Hussey, 1 run, the offcutter from Bhatia on a length on leg, moving across to middle, tucked in front of square leg

That was a super take from Shakib

10.4

Bhatia to Raina, 1 run, thick outside edge now as Raina pushes at an offcutter leaving him outside off, away to short third

10.5

Bhatia to Hussey, no run, there was some width, but Hussey has bashed that straight to extra cover

10.6

Bhatia to Hussey, 2 runs, worked wide of deep square and they turn back for the second, make it quite safely in the end, a better throw to Bhatia would have made it tight, surely

End of over 11 (5 runs) Chennai Super Kings 91/1 (RR: 8.27)
MEK Hussey    44* (35b 3x4 2x6)      R Bhatia    2-0-18-1
SK Raina    1* (1b)      JH Kallis    2-0-10-0

Divyanshu: "As soon as i come up with some funny comment about a batsman , he gets out and my comment never gets published. . Should try bowlers now."

11.1

Kallis to Raina, 1 run, shortish, pulled away to deep square leg

11.2

Kallis to Hussey, FOUR, that has been willed past point with smart wrists from Hussey, Kallis trying the offcutter from back of a length, Hussey did not have too much width, but he got the placement right, guiding it past a diving point

11.3

Kallis to Hussey, 1 run, worked through square leg for one

11.4

Kallis to Raina, no run, ending on middle from a good length, Raina is shuffling across in his crease, and fails to work it square, it rolls towards the bowler

11.5

Kallis to Raina, SIX, and we have the Raina heave over midwicket, all is well with CSK, Raina has taken on a shortish delivery just outside off and walloped it high into the crowd over deep midwicket

11.6

Kallis to Raina, 1 run, Kallis persists with the short ball, this is directed even better, and we have the hook from Raina, he hasn't played the stroke too badly this IPL, this one is very well controlled, down to fine leg

End of over 12 (13 runs) Chennai Super Kings 104/1 (RR: 8.66)
SK Raina    9* (5b 1x6)      JH Kallis    3-0-23-0
MEK Hussey    49* (37b 4x4 2x6)      R Bhatia    2-0-18-1

12.1

Bhatia to Raina, no run, pushes a length ball to the bowler

12.2

Bhatia to Raina, 2 runs, still slower from Bhatia, but they have done very well to take two with a soft tuck towards vacant midwicket, the man in the deep had too much space to cover, but that is some running from CSK in the humidity

12.3

Bhatia to Raina, no run, makes room outside leg, but pushes the offspinner on leg straight to extra cover

12.4

Bhatia to Raina, 2 leg byes, poor line down the pads, but he does not suffer much, YK Pathan lumbers after it from fine leg and stops it

12.5

Bhatia to Raina, 2 runs, punched through extra cover, and Hussey runs two again, Raina is fast as always, it was hit into the gap between sweeper cover and long off

12.6

Bhatia to Raina, 1 run, tries to dab it fine but finds no timing at all, to short third

Time Out, and a breather for Hussey, who is on his haunches and gulping one of those energy drinks

End of over 13 (7 runs) Chennai Super Kings 111/1 (RR: 8.53)
SK Raina    14* (11b 1x6)      R Bhatia    3-0-23-1
MEK Hussey    49* (37b 4x4 2x6)      JH Kallis    3-0-23-0

YK Pathan to have a bowl now

Four players of the CSK squad there in the middle to help their batsmen with drinks and assorted stuff like towels in the Time Out.

Gareth: "Gauti's tactics - Good; CSK Batting - Better; Running between the wickets - Best. Tough day to be a KKR fan."

koma: "Narine will make the differences in this match... CSK will go after him in the end."

ujjwal: "Narine's bowled only one and i think Gambhir is leaving it too late to stop this run flow...Bhatia is doing a decent job but they need wickets."

13.1

Pathan to Raina, 1 run, makes room outside leg, and pushes a full one around leg to long off

Sankar: "Sitting on my chair and watching Hussey run 3 twos makes me panting for my breath!!!!! Amazing player and fitness!!!"

13.2

Pathan to Hussey, 1 run, moves back and works gently through square leg for one, the Chepauk crowd applauds for their opener, another fifty for him, big match player, all the way

13.3

Pathan to Raina, FOUR, neatly done, down the track, and chipped over the bowler, it is placed so straight that long on running across fails to stop it by some margin

13.4

Pathan to Raina, SIX, YK drops it short, and Raina thumps it over his hitting zone, deep midwicket

13.5

Pathan to Raina, FOUR, offspinner was supposed to pose some challenge to two left-handers, at least that is what the thinking would have been, but Raina is taking Yusuf apart, poor ball too, angled down the pads, and he awkwardly gets down to sweep past short fine

13.6

Pathan to Raina, 1 run, punched to sweeper cover to keep strike

End of over 14 (17 runs) Chennai Super Kings 128/1 (RR: 9.14)
SK Raina    30* (16b 2x4 2x6)      YK Pathan    1-0-17-0

Narine is back

14.1

Narine to Raina, 1 run, punched down the ground

14.2

Narine to Hussey, 1 run, shortish, pulled to deep midwicket

14.3

Narine to Raina, FOUR, offbreak spinning across Raina, but he has timed it so well past short third man from the crease, it has teased the fielder all the way to the rope

14.4

Narine to Raina, 1 run, whips a tossed up ball on leg through midwicket

14.5

Narine to Hussey, 1 run, another offbreak, tossed up and spinning away from middle, he waits on it and steers to short third

14.6

Narine to Raina, no run, too short, that should have gone, suddenly he does not seem as big a threat, Raina does not connect with the pull though

SK Raina c Lee b Shakib Al Hasan 73 (38b 3x4 5x6) SR: 192.10

Raina: "Was getting 30s and 40s, but I knew that in the final I would try to give my best for CSK. Last two games, this is the best wicket we have got [in Chennai]."

Suneer has this for us: "Narine had figures of 2/14 and 1/24 in KKR's first two games this season against CSK. He has figures of 0/37 tonight, the most he has conceded ever in an IPL game." Suneer will also take you through the first half of the chase

They lost nearly half of their league games, they come out having to win three knockout games on the trot, they win two comfortably, and dominate the first half of the third. If any side deserves to win this IPL, now, it is CSK

Three quality spinners, three quality spinners, he kept on repeating through the tournament, but Gambhir gave three overs to Shakib, and just one to Iqbal. The one who got four, Narine, went for 37. Nothing worked for KKR. Lee, the injured Balaji's replacement, went for 42. Gambhir tried offspinner Yusuf against two left-handers, he went for 17 in an over

Over to Suneer for the start of the Kolkata innings.
