Start time 1600 (1030 GMT)

The Big Picture

With two wins in two games, including the remarkable Super Over victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday, Sunrisers Hyderabad have begun IPL 2013 well. Their consistency will be tested once again in a rematch of that thrilling game, this time in Bangalore.

For one, they will have to adjust quickly to a pitch that's different from the sluggish surface in Hyderabad. The Chinnaswamy track is far more conducive to pace and movement, and while that could give Sunrisers an advantage - with their attack of Dale Steyn, Ishant Sharma and Thisara Perera - it could also expose the weaknesses in their batting early on. Perera's and Hanuma Vihari's innings aside, the Sunrisers have had no other contributions of note in their matches so far.

Royal Challengers have similar problems. Like in their first match, their total in Hyderabad was built around two batsmen, as the others were dismissed in single digits. Tillakaratne Dilshan's form is a worry for Royal Challengers and it remains to be seen if they will persevere with him.

AB de Villiers, who missed Royal Challengers' first two matches due to his cricket commitments in South Africa will arrive tomorrow. According to a franchise spokesperson, de Villiers "will be available for selection". While his presence will boost a struggling batting side, it will mean a new combination of overseas players.

Both teams have a settled bowling line-up. For Royal Challengers, Vinay Kumar has excelled in the death overs, though he slipped up in the Super Over on Sunday. Henriques and Jaydev Unadkat have been promising at the start. For Sunrisers, Amit Mishra and Dale Steyn have impressed, while Perera has bowled important spells, curbing the flow of runs.

Players to watch

Cameron White hasn't had the most memorable season. He lost Australia's Twenty20 captaincy to George Bailey after a run of poor performances in the Big Bash League. However, the two sixes in the Super Over might be the impetus he needs to score big for Sunrisers.

Jaydev Unadkat has bowled well with the new ball and the pitch at the Chinnaswamy Stadium should help him extract bounce and some movement. He bowled a good ball to dismiss Kumar Sangakkara at a crucial stage of the match and would look to continue in the same vein against Sunrisers on Tuesday.

Stats and trivia

  • Moises Henriques went past 1000 Twenty20 runs during the previous match and needs one wicket to get to 50 wickets.
  • His run-out in the last match put Amit Mishra on top of the list of batsmen with the most ducks in the IPL. Mishra has eight, as does Manish Pandey, who was out for a duck in the game against Kings XI Punjab.

Quotes

"From a batting point of view, myself definitely included, we have to make the bowlers' job a bit easier and bat better." Cameron White on Sunrisers' weaknesses

Sunrisers need to reinforce their batting. They need to put up a total of 160 against RCB to be competitive. Gayle is the most destructive T20 batsman who can win almost single handedly. Cameron White, Perera & Sanga need to contribute more to the total than they are currently doing. They cannot expect RCB to fail twice in their batting. Sunrisers bowling kept them in the game so far in both the matches. It is time for their batsmen to show up. Fortunately the local lads, 2 Reddys + Vihari , made significant contributions to the side total. It will be close game if the Sunrisers batting shows up. Otherwise the odds favour RCB.

It is ironic that Sammy cannot get to play for Sunrisers but is a certainty for West Indies.Reddy and White gets to play before him.

I Think RCB Is Going To Loose Their 2nd HomeGround Match Against SUNRISERS.

  • on April 9, 2013, 10:04 GMT

RCB has definately winning squad in there team, resting IPL experience player like tiwary is just a joke. he should be given a chance in this season untill Pujara returns to the team, and i could not understand y selectors are benching a purple cappped bowler R.P singh.

    my team, 1.Gayle, 2.Mayank, 3.Virat, 4. AB, 5. Henriques, 6.Tiwary, 7.A.Karthik(wk), 8.Muralitharan, 9.Unadkat, 10.Zaheer, 11.Rp singh.

And Virat should give the ball to gayle in power play.

  • on April 9, 2013, 10:01 GMT

It was Hyderabad's batting won that super over. With 20 only the bowling could lose it.

  • indi_army on April 9, 2013, 7:31 GMT

I presume V.Kohli is still not 100% to lead a side.He has made mistakes, mistakes which have cost his team the match.I can say this with a shadow of doubt in my mind he can be the finest captain for India in the coming years. As everyone wanted him to lead the India side after the India-England Test series debacle, IPL is the most prominent stage where we all would get the perfect idea about his leadership skills.I personally would want him to do well though. Good Luck dude.

  • on April 9, 2013, 7:21 GMT

    1. Why is Vijay Zol not in the playing XI? :O After all, he has proven his mettle in the recent domestic format. I am sure he would make a good contribution than what Mayank has done so far. He's a class act, I bet.

    2. Moises Henriques should not be left out at any cost, since he's an able batsman and a good bowler. You cannot say whether he is a batsman who bowls or a bowler who bats. Well balanced at the moment, and so RCB should make use of its resources properly.

    3. My XI would be

    1.Gayle Storm 2. Dilshan 3. Virat Kohli 4. AB De Villiers 5. Vizay Zol/Mukund 6. Moises Henriques 7. A Karthik (wk) 8. Mithun/Zak 9. Jaidev Unadkat 10. Murali Karthik 11. Vinay Kumar

  • Tal_Botvinnik on April 9, 2013, 6:59 GMT

@Narbavi Now Dont say test cricket is the real deal and Limited over is nothing but fluke.(because just to prove Ishant is better than perera) I remember you people getting white washed 0-8 and loosing severely 1-2 to english and i would like to know what did your ishant sharma do during those times. We at least lost 1-0 against the english men and drew the series against them at home(they won on the most seaming pitches in sri lanka) while you people got whacked by Cook and Co. on a square turner. We won series against Pakistan and we are the LAST TEAM TO BEAT SOUTH AFRICA AND THAT TOO BY A BIG MARGIN!!.You people were walloped on your home turf by the pakistanis and

  • on April 9, 2013, 6:30 GMT

My playing 11 of RCB Gayle, mayank-- openers Middle order --virat nd AB henricks zol nd arun karthik Bowling .-- murali karthik unadkat muralidaran nd abhimanyu mithun (if zak is fit) he can replace mithun

  • Baseball-Sucks on April 9, 2013, 6:23 GMT

@ Narbavi ; You must be confused here. We are talking about limited overs here. Pls don't go off track. Ishat Sharma is the worst bowler to have ever played T20's. His T20 average 43.5 where Perera is maintaining 25.56. LOL (And ODI, Sharma 31.48 and perera 26.50). Perera is a FAR superior bowler than Sharma. When It comes to batting n fielding..ah..I'm not even gonna go there. LOL. Thisara Perera is a far far better cricketer than Sharma could ever dream of becoming.

  • kevepere on April 9, 2013, 6:14 GMT

Some people are comparing Thisara and Ishant. You cannot compare Apples with Oranges... Can you compare an all rounder with a fast bowler and say he is better than him in bowling and so the all rounder is not worth for the team. Are you guys off? comparing Test performances and expecting t20s performances from the Test specialized players. The all rounder's contribution to the team can be more from the bat or the bowl. The all arounder can be handy in t20s but might also have bad days . So stop arguing !

  • JamesSmithee on April 9, 2013, 6:07 GMT

AB is the best batsman in the world. Nice to see he is batting.

  • Porky_PigTheToon on April 9, 2013, 6:02 GMT

Good news for RCB is that AB is back. So an out-of-form Dilshan can warm the bench and carry the drinks when needed. Make Mayank Agarwal open with Gayle. AB must bat at No. 4 or 5. That will give RCB much needed stability in middle order. Overseas players for RCB - Gayle, AB, Henriques and Murali.

And SH will have to rethink on how to get Gayle out again. My gut feeling sayd Gayle will score 100 today. SO Boys and Girls make sure you choose him as your Power Player. :)

And to those who saying Play de Kock in place of White. Give me a break. Last match it was White who won match for SRH in super-over. Those 2 SIXES must have increased White's confidence and he is a BRILLIANT fielder too. de Kock has no experience of playing in sub-continent. I say, let White play 3-4 matches, he will show what he is capable of. Anf for God's sake, tell Sanga to bat (himself and other overseas batsmen) up the order.

  • PerfectTen on April 9, 2013, 5:57 GMT

If available, AB should replace Dilshan and Rampaul be tried giving Murali a rest given the expectations from the pitch. Mayank is a free stroking and usually a senseless kid. If he's in the team, he should open with Gayle which, if clicks, would allow the big Jamaican the time at the start that he looks for these days. If he doesn't, he can warm the benches and watch Vijay Zol being tried out for a couple of matches. This is the right time to experiment and RCB should not act conservative. So, my 11 for RCB would be: Mayank/Zol, Gayle, Virat, AB, Tiwary, Henriques, Rampaul, Vinay, M Kartik, Unadkat, Harshal/Mithun. Moises bowled quite well in the last match and if continues to do that, it will allow RCB an extra batsman which is a necessity given their over-dependence on Gayle. If expectations are properly set, Rampaul can be a bowling allrounder to further strengthen their brittle batting order.

  • Baseball-Sucks on April 9, 2013, 5:41 GMT

Whatever Sunrisers have achieved is thanks to the brilliant captaincy of Sanga. Now these people are calling for his head. Pathetic. Put your hidden agendas aside. Give him credits he deserves for his brilliance.

  • Narbavi on April 9, 2013, 5:31 GMT

Ishant is not in a good phase now but still a better bowler than Perera, perera has hardly played any test cricket, ishant's legendary spell to ponting, man of the series against australia in the 4 match test series in 2008 are two of his best moments, perera can only dream of these things now, he has made a name for himself only in limited overs

  • on April 9, 2013, 5:28 GMT

Sunrisers, as the erstwhile Deccan chargers, have struggled when it comes to the Indian players. their bench strength is not as great as some of the other teams especially in this aspect. Hence it is important that they plan the next auction carefully and try to induct as many quality indian players as possible while retaining the core foreign purchases like Steyn, White, Perera and Co. I am of the opinion that Darren Sammy can be handy with his slog hitting and workhorse model of bowling. Also the form of Dhawan becomes all the more important for them. All in all things look a bit messy at the moment but now without a glimer of hope.

  • on April 9, 2013, 5:26 GMT

De Kock in for White & AB in for Dilshan will be two notable changes in Todays Line up.

@Tal_Botvinnik - U cant bench a player simply he dont have reputation? huh ! he ll be destroyer !

@ CricketpunditUSA - AB just arrived today from SA Domestic arena along with De Kock

    @Ahtisham Motiwala - Pujara is Injured !

  • on April 9, 2013, 5:12 GMT

deKOCK should play .... he is the bargain and mark my word he will be the leading scorer with strike rate more than 150.

  • Narbavi on April 9, 2013, 5:02 GMT

@An_offside_rant: tsk tsk, guess what, he won't even play today if De villers is fit and ready to play

  • Vaskur79 on April 9, 2013, 5:02 GMT

My Top 11 Choise For Sunrisers In Today's Match:

    1) C White (Captain). 2) Q De Cock. 3) D Styen. 4) T Perara. 5) P Patel (wk). 6) Hanuman Bihari. 7) Ashisi Reddy. 8) A Mishra. 9) I Sharma. 10) Ankit Sharma 11) S Rana.

  • Tal_Botvinnik on April 9, 2013, 4:59 GMT

Ishant Sharma is a very limited bowler compared to Thissara Perera. Thissara has all types of slower balls and he can swing and seam the ball either way. He also bowled at 150kph once (the group stage of world cup 2012 vs canada) .Ishant has only pace and little bit of inswing.

Batting wise he is a superior batsmen which is the reason he bats at No 6 while Ishant bats No.11.

De Kock is good but you don't know how he will fare against the spin duo of murali, and karthik and later narine, ashwin, sharma, ... (Remember Levi)

Its better to bench him until he gets a good reputation in international cricket against spin.

  • An_offside_rant on April 9, 2013, 4:30 GMT

All that talk about dropping Dilshan. Tsk Tsk, MArk my words, he'l score a fifty today. A quick one mind you..

  • recycle-bin-is-empty on April 9, 2013, 4:25 GMT

I am backing SRH only because of Dale Steyn. Cant wait to see Steyn vs Gayle once again!!! Waiting to see a beautiful and magnificent innings from Sanga and Kohli. Also once Dhawan joins the camp, I guess SRH will be the team to beat this season!!

  • CricketpunditUSA on April 9, 2013, 4:12 GMT

Why is AB warming up the bench??? He should walk into the playing XI for any team. Thanks to sanga, the last game went to superover... Sanga should be out to give Sammy a game. White and sanga ---toss up.. Unless sanga does keeper duties, he shouldn't be in the playing XI let alone be the captain....

  • satishchandar on April 9, 2013, 2:13 GMT

Personally feel the Sun risers could afford an extra player in place of either Sanga or White.. I don;t see place for both of them in a c=single team.. Yes they got loads of experience but still, given the inexperience of the Indian batsmen and no big power hitters from local, they can't expect Thissera to do all the hittings.. The likes of Asish, Vihari all can bat for 20-30 overs. . They can try out one more big hitter from overseas.. Steyn and Thissera pick themselves into the 11.. They are badly missing Duminy.. Will De kock or Lynn make it for one of Sanga/White? I think De kock can provide the X factor at no.3..

  • on April 9, 2013, 0:27 GMT

Play de Kock sunrisers. He was born on bouncy tracks like rcb. This batting line-up failed last year and is failing stll.

  • SurlyCynic on April 8, 2013, 20:32 GMT

I also think AB should come straight into the team, but I find it interesting that people want players dropped (eg Dilshan) after two failures. In t20 anyone can fail as it is a lottery. 2 failures doesn't mean you're out of form.

Best tactics are to choose your best team and given them 4/5 chances before deciding to drop anyone (changes for different conditions/pitches apart).

  • Baseball-Sucks on April 8, 2013, 19:24 GMT

@gnanzcupid ; Thisara is a better bowler, far far better fielder n far far far far better batsman than Ishant Sharma. So of course Thisara can not be compared to Sharma. You are spot on..

Any news on S Dhawan joining Sunrisers.it was said in a previous article that Dhawan will miss the first game of IPL.SRH needs batsmen.Highest runs by an Indian batsmen last season(second Highest overall) will be exactly what the doctor ordered for Sunrisers.

  • kc69 on April 8, 2013, 18:53 GMT

I will still back Sunrisers,Reminds me of Rajasthan Royals in first season. As for Cameroon whte he still needs to prove himself and it seems like Thisara is the best hitter SRH has got but Sanga is looking a bit rusty.Lets see what SRH does to tackle Gayle this time.Being an SRH fan i still feel Gayle is the mightiest when it comes to power hitting.Last match both teams were looking equal but adding AB will change the entire equation for RCB i hope he just doesnt make it to playing 11.

What an action packed cricket we saw that night.Great to watch so much exciting cricket.Hope we get to see that again in Bengaluru. RCB needs AB de Villiers to strengthen their batting line. Hoping for RCB to win this time around. Dilshan should be dropped as he is out of touch. Zak should be included in the team.Vinay should be consistent.

Quinton de kock is a fantastic player. DC should include him at any cost. oops, they have changed the franchise name to SRH but I like DC. Anyways backing SRH to win.

  • on April 8, 2013, 17:05 GMT

@gnanzcupid... Hell yeah mate Thisara Perera cannot be compared to either Dale Steyn or Ishanth Sharma.. Steyn of course is the best pace bowler going around at the momment and will most deffinitely end up one of the very best to have played the game.. Aaaand Ishanth Sharma well well he too is in a totally different league :P of course we cannot compare him to Thisara.. well i think the Bangladeshi seamer Shahadat Hossain would be the closest canditate... Thisara has alot to prove in the international circuit and so far he has impressed one and all with this limited overs performances. But it is in tests that he has not performed well and i personally believe that it won't be easy for him to excell in the test arena so lets leave that for the future.. But Ishanth Sharma is a totally different story altogether.. period..

  • Htc-Android on April 8, 2013, 16:55 GMT

@ gnanzcupid. lol. perera is a much better bowler than ishant. Perera has better records than ishant in ODIs and T20s. He can also score runs quickly when his team needs( which he did for SL many times). Its funny ur trying to match an overrated bowler like ishant( who averages 38 in tests after playing 50 test matches) with the worlds best fast bowler steyn.

  • Cpt.Meanster on April 8, 2013, 16:19 GMT

Get rid of the USELESS Dilshan and play Andrew Macdonald, also get rid of Muralitharan and play Daniel Vettori because he can also bat. RCB are simply wasting their time with the two Sri Lankans. If my strategy is applied, RCB should win a lot more games from now on.

  • gnanzcupid on April 8, 2013, 15:49 GMT

Thisara perera cant be compared to steyn and ishant. He is just yet to prove his potential

  • phunny_game on April 8, 2013, 15:24 GMT

The perfect combination for RCB should have no place for dilshan. He hasn't done anything spectacular with the bat or ball. Mayank aggarwal can open with Gayle and AB and virat should come at 3,4... Anyway, i would support SRH, but even PWI won first two matches last year. Hope the rest of the journey doesn't pan out like PWI's...

  • timtom on April 8, 2013, 14:56 GMT

RCB is the weakest team in IPL as they have the weakest bowling unit.. Remove Gayle and they will be a strong contender for wooden spoon. Opposition team have to just have a solid strategy for Gayle which is battle almost won.

  • ibbani on April 8, 2013, 14:37 GMT

What a wonderful game to witness. RCB and SRH are 2 fantastic teams with too many players not clicking at right moment. RCB can surey boast to pay much better and win more games. Next match is the revenge in Bengaluru.Hope Gaye, VK/VK, TD and AB clicks there as it is a batting paradise. Go RCB, you have a wonderfu fans support behind you.

Dilshan is sure running out of time, RCB rather have another batting allrounder like McDonald, or DC in place of Dilshan and have Kohli open with gayle, settle down and then take the attack to the opposition. In any case all of this is going to be invalid on AB becomes available, the batting is going to be so much stronger.

I want to see de villiers and Gayle open and I would like to see A McDonald or M Henriques replace Dilshan. Please do not select Z Khan.

I hope de villiers and de kock play for their respective teams then it will be a run fest de villiers must open in place o struggling dilshan

Cameron White was in amazing form last year IPL with 450+ runs at a strike rate of 150-something! And in my view,he was Hyderabad's best batsman last year(Dhawan had scored more runs but at a lower Strike rate). If he can find that kind of form,he will again be force to be reckoned with.

i think it is an easy game for r.c.b.they should take their revenge

Dilshan is of no use to this team, allow Mayank agarwal to open the innings and bring in de villiers in the middle order instead of dilshan,

RCB is the weakest team in IPL as they have the weakest bowling unit.. Remove Gayle and they will be a strong contender for wooden spoon. Opposition team have to just have a solid strategy for Gayle which is battle almost won.
