Big Picture

Despite three years of unremitting mediocrity, the fans of Pune Warriors have faithfully turned up to cheer on their side. It will be a testament to their loyalty if they show up in numbers for Warriors' final game of the season, which pits their team against Delhi Daredevils, another side which has had an utterly forgettable season. The only interest in the game will be to see which team avoids the bottom spot, in a season in which both have been inept.

Form guide

Pune Warriors WLLLL
Delhi Daredevils LLLLL

In the spotlight

Most players in either side will be waiting for the season to end, but few want it to finish as desperately as David Warner, who has had four months of woe in India. He arrived long before the IPL, for the Test series in which Australia were comprehensively beaten 4-0 and Daredevils have rarely looked like rising out of the bottom half in the IPL. To top it off, he could be in trouble with Cricket Australia after a series of angry tweets lashing out at an Australia journalist.

Stats and trivia

  • Warriors' victory over Kolkata Knight Riders earlier this week was only their third victory in 24 matches
  • One of the biggest disappointments of the season for Daredevils has been Mahela Jayawardene, who has been striking at a sluggish rate of 105.66 despite getting plenty of opportunities at the top of the order

Sehwag's offies and Jayawardena's slow medium dibbly-dobblies should be used to open the bowling. Make the batters do the hard work. Viru's drifted off spinners remind me of Aravinda De Silva (as if!). Morkel has been a real disappointment this season. Umesh has been the only bright spark. Irfan remains to fulfil his (huge) potential in 2014, 15, 16 ........ Dinda being picked is the best news for DD batsmen.

What happened to Naman Ojha.... failed to understand all through IPL. He was very good last time and had even better record with RR before. He should be given a chance. He is aggressive batsman and a good keeper. He can even open with Warner. Shewag could come 1 or 2 down !!!

DD should play basic cricket...!!! Warner and Sehwag should open then Chand,Mahela,Rohrer,Pathen..........!! If the want some thing tricky then should send Morkel little bit up order...!! He can be handy with bat...!!

@Ravindran; still Warner is DD's best performer in the IPL.

Huh this match! I am afraid such a low key contest might have adverse effect on super Sunday of IPL. Let's hope it'll be a high scoring match and we'll get to see some records getting shattered. That's the only way to garner some interest in this game. All big names in both the teams Sehwag, Warner, Jayawardane, Yuvraj, Uthappa have their reputation at stakes. So it's better for them to perform at this stage as it might attract some new owners towards them in next year IPL auction. Or else it's nightmare. Won't matter for Warner though as he will resurface himself through numerous opportunity while playing for Australia. But others have tough task ahead of them. Come on guys. Dish out something special on this Super-Sunday for all of us.
