After initially attracting plenty of attention as Wasim Jaffer's nephew, 13-year-old Armaan Jaffer carved his own identity when he broke the record for the highest individual score in Indian school cricket in 2010. He smashed 498 for Rizvi Springfield School against IES Raja Shivaji School in the Under-14 Giles Shield tournament, and surpassed Sarfaraz Khan's record of 439. In 2009, Armaan had also broken the record for the highest score in the Giles Shield by overtaking Parikshit Valsangkar's 357.

Armaan's appetite for runs and long innings had only started. He spent his teens playing two and three-day matches in Mumbai, and notched one big score after another in the Cooch Behar Trophy. He got his reward when he was picked for the 2016 Under-19 World Cup in Bangladesh, after he struck three consecutive double-centuries in 2015.

Batting in the middle order, he scored 160 runs in six innings in the U-19 World Cup and was later picked for the Mumbai U-23 side. He showed his worth for the longer format again by registering scores of 181 and 60 in the semi-final and final of the CK Nayudu Trophy, which Mumbai won.

He also bagged an IPL contract for INR 10 lakh ($US 14,800 approximately) with Kings XI Punjab.
