Ravindra Jadeja celebrates Super Kings' dramatic finish, Chennai Super Kings v Royal Challengers Bangalore, IPL 2013, Chennai, April 13, 2013
The name's Jadeja, Ravindra Jadeja: another day, another win © BCCI

The last time Royal Challengers Bangalore went to Chennai, Virat Kohli lost a won match when he bowled one over. The captain this time, Kohli lost a won game by handing over the ball to RP Singh, who conceded 16 in the last over, including a huge no-ball, which was caught at third man and would have won them the match had RP not overstepped - it was meant to be the final ball of the game. Laughing all the way to the win was Ravindra Jadeja, who mixed educated edges and meaty blows superbly to take Chennai Super Kings home with 38 off 20.

After Ravi Rampaul and R Vinay Kumar removed the openers to reduce Super Kings to 10 for 2 in four overs, it was all uphill for the home side. Suresh Raina and S Badrinath rebuilt but when they fell Super Kings still needed 88 off 46. Vinay brought it to 65 off 30, conceding only six in the 15th over. Dhoni and Jadeja kept on hitting the odd boundary, one of them right out of the stadium, but the asking rate kept going up.

With 29 required off the last two overs, Rampaul seemed to have sealed the deal with the wickets of Dhoni - for 33 off 23 - and Bravo - for 8 off 3 - in the 19th over. However, Kohli had a situation on his hands. Vinay had bowled out, and he had to choose between Daniel Christian and RP because the left-arm spinners would have turned or angled the ball into Jadeja's natural swing. Christian had gone for just 13 in two overs, but has had a forgettable record bowling the final over in IPL games.

So RP it was, and RP it was who bowled two length balls at the top of the over. Jadeja edged the first over short third man, but absolutely smoked the next one over long-on. The pressure was squarely on Royal Challengers now. Wearing the orange cap, reclaimed through an anchoring fifty earlier in the innings, Kohli misfielded the fourth ball at long-on, allowing the second. He had done so earlier too.

Chris Morris, who had taken three wickets including the big one of Chris Gayle and two during the slog overs to keep Royal Challengers down to 165, accepted that couple and followed it with a single to make it two required off the last ball. Surreal scenes followed. RP bowled a bouncer, Jadeja ramped it straight to third man, Kohli thought he could yet end up on the right side of it until he saw the outstretched arm of the umpire and the celebrating Jadeja, who seems to be unable to do any wrong this season even if he tries.

Replays showed this wasn't just any ordinary no-ball, RP had overstepped by a foot. Kohli backed RP in the public, but there might be words spoken behind closed doors. Royal Challengers will also look at the last over when they batted, when Arun Karthik kept heaving and wasting deliveries as opposed to bringing to strike AB de Villiers, who scored a manic 64 off 32, full of sweeps against fast bowlers.

It was not the RCB which lost the match. The culprit was RP who won the match for CSK. Imagine a bowler of RP's experience defending 16 runs. The no ball he bowled was not marginal, it was huge.

Posted by contactsai123 on (April 15, 2013, 5:02 GMT)

Request from CSK fans...Will CSK get freehit in the next match for the No-ball bowled by RP?

Posted by Harmony111 on (April 14, 2013, 20:45 GMT)

I am sure you all saw that 104 metre six that MSD hit off Rampaul. Did anyone pay attention to the 'twock' sound that MSD's bat made for that shot? MSD hit that ball by the middle of his bat's sweet spot. That sound was soooo sooo mellifluous. I have seen many many sixes all these years and may be it is my confirmation bias but I can recall only one shot that made a similar 'twock' sound. It was a similarly huge six that Pollard hit of Shaun Tait in perhaps the 2nd CLT20 in SA. He pulled Taut over midwicket in that match for that six. If anyone can add to this list of 'twock' sixes then it would be terrific. I am not necessarily talking about huge sixes but 'twock' sixes. Hope the point is clear.

My previous post did not see daylight for obvious reasons. The CSK v RCB game gets a 10 for the entertainment value. As for the RCB efforts on the field, it probably was a 4 and RP.....-1 (for the commitment, professionalism, & intent shown in the final over). Being an RCB fan, I just hope the team shows a better commitment & intent in their future IPL6 games.

Congrats CSK.. Luck favours the brave, Tell me a team which will back itself to chase more than 2 a ball. Some credit must go the team mgmt as well, CSK has strengthened its fast bowling unit as well. Would like to see a glimpse of Jason holder.

Drop Kholi from captaincy and give to AB de Villers. Looking after the incident with Gambir, I wonder how people says Kholi is future India captain?

@TRAM on (April 13, 2013, 18:43 GMT) Marquee name above what they're actually doing in this format on the cricket field.

Posted by JG2704 on (April 14, 2013, 9:44 GMT)

I certainly wouldn't attach any blame to Kohli for his choice of a bowler in the last over.

However I thought there were a few instances where he was slack in the field towards the end which OK only cost a few runs but when the rest of the RCB players were fielding like their lives depended on it .. Great batsman and could become a great captain but for me he personally lost a little focus in the field

Posted by ibbani on (April 14, 2013, 9:19 GMT)

cracking match, but the luck did not favour RCB. Daniel Christian's noball was called wrongly. No excuse for RP's noball. Time to sweat out in nets for right steps RP. RCB, CSK, MI the 3 big teams in IPL and almost granted with 3 places. 4th team is battling with other lower ranked ones. Go on RCB, still everything in the taking. 16 matches, need only 10-11 wins. You still 11 match and to win 7 out of them. Not a worry at all. It is just a game and we would still win the next game. We alomsot won 2 close matches.

Posted by recycle-bin-is-empty on (April 14, 2013, 8:53 GMT)

So Sir Jadeja indeed pulled off a Rajnikant here :). His team needed 2 runs from the last bowl, he was caught and had run just a single but still won the match for his team!!! Maybe the crease might have shifted backwards at the bowler's end lol causing RP to bowl the no-ball.

All jokes aside, Kohli is not a captain material for sure (it has nothing to do with the loss yesterday though). The way he loses his temper so often and his reactions on the field are often a disgrace. The way he reacted to Gambhir in the other match, someone who hails from his own city and probably 7-8 years senior to him, speaks volumes about this guy's attitude when things don't go his way. Kohli has not achieved even 50% of what Gambhir had when he started his career. I hope Kohli can learn some sportmanship from the good company of Vettori.

@Luk_here .. How does it matter who started making mockery of RJ, he thouroughly deserve it. He just started showing that he is a player or close to it. He still has to prove a lot to before people stop doing such things. And as a diehard cricket fan, we have every right to do so until the players like Rohit sharma, Ravindra Jadeja gets chance ahead of Manoj tiwary, Badrinath and so on....

Posted by Rokingrishav on (April 14, 2013, 7:44 GMT)

the person wid such arrogance and failing to deliver when needed in field and who cannot accept d loss can never be good captain.AFT he is nowhere near raina in fielding standards which he has shown time and again. So stop placing him before raina in fielding esp. Gawaskar who cries a lot while commenting.

Posted by crindex on (April 14, 2013, 7:44 GMT)

@InnocentGuy I am really serious about Huss and Vijay opening at the top. In 8 out of 10 matches its not working . Time CSK found some new openers or use aggressive ones such as Aniruddha Srikkanth along with Hussey or Vijay on a rotation basis for next few matches. Top order is becoming the chink in CSKs armor.

Posted by vividfan on (April 14, 2013, 7:38 GMT)

RP singh didnt bowl no ball!!..Lord Jadeja pushed the no ball line back and made it a no ball :P

Posted by luk_here on (April 14, 2013, 7:27 GMT)

chennaiites dont use the phrase 'sir ravindra jadeja' .. and peopl who comment on him lik that need to know more on respecting players who play for the country...

Posted by Lakpj on (April 14, 2013, 7:26 GMT)

Lack of genuine wicket taking bowlers cost RCB the match. Murali was there but thanks to politics he couldn't play and CSK had the advantage. This should continue through out the tournament. It seems that 2 matches of the knockout stage too will be held in Chennai. and for teams like RCB and Mumbai if they can't play murali and malinga there is no point in staging the matches there. if the IPL can't at-least shift those games to somewhere else, they should better off handing the trophy to CSK and declare them winners.

Posted by   on (April 14, 2013, 7:17 GMT)

Why can't CSK send in their tail end bowlers to open the future games, for a change? They will swing wildly as is their wont and in that process may scre more runs than the routine openers. Moreover, the game being limited to 20 overs only, the entire team of CSK cannot be bowled out easily and the demoted 'openers' can still score in 3rd or 4 th position.

Posted by Narbavi on (April 14, 2013, 7:08 GMT)

@KallisTheGreatest: Have said this before, will say it again, if you have such doubts regarding the match then you are indirectly questioning the integrity of some of the world's top players and also some legends, in that case you don't have to watch and speak about the IPL at all in the first place!!

Posted by Pathiyal on (April 14, 2013, 6:50 GMT)

initially i thought it was a good decision by kohli giving the final over to RP. but it was surprisingly hilarious to watch what happened afterwards. difficult to compare Kohli's on field histrionics with that of Saurav will be insult to Saurav who always made a point to mix his aggression with a bit of intellect.

RCB made few mistakes: 1) choosing Christian instead of Hendriques. 2) sending Rampaul at 6. 3) not keeping Vinay Kumar for the last over. 4) few midfields. What happened to Pujara? Why he is not playing?

Posted by Narbavi on (April 14, 2013, 6:11 GMT)

@Tal_Botvinnik: He has led before at an young age and i am of the opinion a leader should be the one who leads by performing on the pitch in the first place to command respect, no one has ever had a start like Kohli has got in international cricket, anyway MSD will remain captain for two more years, it will be good if kohli can curb his aggression a bit in these next two years!!

Posted by NP_NY on (April 14, 2013, 6:09 GMT)

@Baseball-Sucks: You are right, Kohli is not a good the moment. But remember he is only 24. He will learn. Also, remember that he didn't start off his international career as a batsman very well. But he learned and improved. No one can every forget the thrashing he laid on Srilanka in Australia. So, someday he will make a good captain, but not just yet.

Posted by Narbavi on (April 14, 2013, 6:07 GMT)

@kevepere: CSK spent big on MS Dhoni in the first season and recently on Jadeja, they signed Vijay, Badrinath and Ashwin as uncapped players from TN, how can that be called an unfair advantage? Raina was bought for a meagre sum as he was dropped from the indian side in 2007, after a strong first IPL, he regained his place, so you have mentioned some nonsense stuff sir, they have done well to retain the core group of players everytime, the more you play together, the more you become successful!!

Posted by NP_NY on (April 14, 2013, 6:05 GMT)

@kevepere: "Sir Ravindra Jadeja" is a joke and everyone else seem to know it is a joke except you!

Posted by Narbavi on (April 14, 2013, 6:03 GMT)

@kevepere: Chennai people alone never called him as SIR JADEJA like you have mentioned, shows the kind of knowledge you actually have on indian cricket, the whole country started to mock him like that sometime back and its just being continued!!

Posted by mjrvasu on (April 14, 2013, 6:02 GMT)

MSD himself missed a few strategic tricks. Gayle and De Villiers are really very attacking players, no doubt, but there is a huge difference when they bat freely without any pressure of chasing. Gayle's IPL statistics and De Villiers' South African (the chokers) statistics will support this. Dhoni should have taken batting straightaway and set a target. Even otherwise, with so many better bowling options at his hand, he threw the ball to Jadeja for 2 overs that proved very costly to set up the platform for RCB's assault. And Bravo should have appeared earlier in batting ahead of Jadeja, in which case the target would have been made a lot easier. The umpiring in this match was terrible, but it aided in getting this match to a close finish.

yesterday was Mohd Aamir's birthday! RP, what a co-incidence!!

Posted by Straight-Drive on (April 14, 2013, 5:47 GMT)

I cannot think of comparing Ganguly with Kohli.. Ganguly never got provoked and charged @ people. Though he did give back things in his own way (like pulling off his shirt after the series levelling win against England), there was no breach of conduct. In all Ganguly was gentlemanly like even when he gave things back. The way Kholi reacts, be it a match winning century or verbal exchange, it is baffling. I cannot think of how media is proclaiming him to be a hier apparent. After the IPL, i hope selectors find some sense and sack Kholi as a vice captain and try to groom someone else for the future captaincy. Also Kholi as a captain, is pretty ordinary with his decision - whilst most of his decision is driven emotionally.

Posted by SpeedCricketThrills on (April 14, 2013, 5:42 GMT)

There is an invisible entity called "IPL God" & when God decides CSK is the favorite child, nothing can stop them from winning. Especially with a bowler who can get a measure of his strides and foot. Fans accept mistakes with a large heart, but foolish blunders are just, just, unacceptable. With players like RP, opponents don't need a "destiny's favorite child" to win. Anyway, Chetan Sharma will now be a much relieved man - he made a mistake, not a blunder.

Posted by Vivekaks on (April 14, 2013, 5:41 GMT)

Super match, and again brings the focus back on the lack of indian talent in RCB ranks. Kohli could be their best Indian talent, but definitely not a captain material. Sure NOT. A guy misfields and then shouts at his own bowler can never be a captain material. Pick any world class captain, they didnt show aggression in their body language but in their game...Kohli shows more aggression thro his over the top celebration and body language than through his batting. If this is what he brigns to the table as a captain than India should recall Dada... In terms of sportsmanship....he has nothin to offer...zilch...everyone has seen his over the top celebration of a wicket and he was paid in the same coin, he picks a fight with Gambhir...he needs to get real. About RCB...lesser said is better. No world class bowler, Gayle and AB are the only ones to get them to win a match. If you see any other team in IPL, they have real good Indian talent...thats wat will get u trophy like CSK have...

Posted by MadrasCity on (April 14, 2013, 5:41 GMT)

I was @ the Stadium watching live match. Finally Umpire did a good job by calling a No ball correctly unlike giving Kohli a second chance in his batting - even that was fun else RCB would have not reached 165. All in all awesome experience.

Posted by   on (April 14, 2013, 4:41 GMT)

good win by chennai, RCB lost it to a complete team effort of csk, everybody chiped in , bcoz of motivational skills of dhoni and staff, virat is a young captain he has to devolop captain skills, its not under19 senario . its a global thing , in these limited overs matches chasing is not enough, but defending the total is also very important, in those situations the captainsy skills comes out. those will be called as real skills, here bengaluru is lucky at present 5 batsmen are known to be greatest in t20s those are 1) gayle 2)ABD 3)SEHWAG 4) warner 5)brendon MC RCB got 2 of these, and the most consistant of all ABD, CSK strength is indian international players, as wel as domestic players,, 4 foreign players may no be the big difference, so he selected mini indian team, and CSK will be related to srinivasan , and POWERFUL CAPTAIN , so domestic players are giving 200% to impress those two big heads.......

Posted by Tal_Botvinnik on (April 14, 2013, 4:37 GMT)

If hadn't been arun karthick's brainless batting RCB would have won. because i am sure AbDv can wreck nannes the same way he did to the steyn last year.Bowling a no-ball is a crime for a fast bowler, if super express steyn, malinga wouldn't bowl them then... its unforgivable.

@Narbavi Kohli is a good(best short form u25 ) batsmen but his attitute is the worst, the nature of the team depends on the mindset of the captain, when dhoni was captaining the side the side was laidback and stayed away from controversy, but with kohli ....

Can't believe Kohli had a fight with Gambhir, remember how gambhir gave away his MoM to Kohli on his maiden odi century.

Posted by screamingeagle on (April 14, 2013, 4:19 GMT)

Kohli seems to be having so much pressure bottled up inside him, guy needs to get a few kingfishers and lighten up. Seriously, for a player touted as a future Indian captain, guy has miles to go.

Dhoni kept his cool when Kholi was given not out for the catch taken by him. I prayed that dharma should be established by CSk winning the match. My wish and Dhoni calm proved that Sataymava Jayatay!

@Guru2807 Even though raina wasnt a permanent batsman he got chances . M Vijay and Jadeja gets chances. What about in SRH ? Vihari , AA Reddy and PA Reddy. yes yes they are like M Vijay, Jadeja , Raina and Badrinath. Dont talk nonsense dear. Badrinath was always a great batsman that could not get along with the top indian batting lineup just dropping short. Most of the csk players are t20 material also. Thats why i say unfair advantage. IPL would be not interesting if the IPL is all about CSK , MI and RCB. These local players know the pitches very well than foreign players. MI got Karthik , Rohit and Rayudu. RCB got some good indian bowlers. 1st IPL was the best as the chance for underdogs were there like RR. But afterwards all Chennai , Mumbai and RCB. Thankfully KKR won last time

ABDE Super Knock !!! Very very difficult to bowl to a batsman like this. Both teams played really well and luck Favored chennai. It gives more pleasure when Dhoni hits out of the park than when Gayle hits. Eagerly waiting for the Clash in chinnaswamy stadium. Muralidharan will definitely pickup a wicket or two and the contest is going to be even better.

Wow what a match!!! CSK won from dire straits.. first 10 overs nothing to was 50 or 60 but in the last 10 overs..they hit 100 runs.. damn..that was awesome.. even in that 10 overs.. first 5 yielded 35 while the last 5 overs they were asked to get 65..when i saw this..i changed the channel and watching some movie. but after few minutes when I saw 29 of 12 i was thinking what the hell happened? Amazing how CSK can win from a lost situation. During RCB innings.. Kohli..NICKED one ball.. it was OUT.clear edge..with sound.. you can check replays if u like but it was definite edge and was given NOT OUT. Dhoni was absolutely right they have to improve bowling in last 10 overs. giving 100 runs in last 10 overs is not acceptable.. IT was a TEAM effort.. 4 big guys in the middle order got 33, 38 , 34 , and another 30.. Dhoni smashed one out of that big ground..big six of Rampaul..& RP Singh overstepped that was a BIG no ball.. so jaddu saw it before hitting. Congrats CSK!!Dhoni..super

God Helps those who help themselves. Great efforts from SRJ, last over and 16 run was required. RJ provide every possible efforts. In First two ball he has scored 4 and 6. this was really good under pressure innings. So Credit goes to Ravinder jadega no doubt.

Posted by   on (April 14, 2013, 3:28 GMT)

Well done CSK.....the main problem for them is they are a little bit more circumspect upfront and thereby in last 5-6 over it is more to do.... even though we have hard hitters and MSD one of the great finishers of the game sometimes it may be out of i think CSK have to get some more may be 10-15 runs in the first 10 overs.....anyway well done jadeja msd and morris to keep their nerve and win the match for csk.............

Posted by AnoopMukundan on (April 14, 2013, 3:24 GMT)

Virat Kohl clearlyi edged the ball to the keeper and stayed on. In this IPL except MI,KKR and RCB other teams are captained by thorough professionals who would have walked. This three teams have aggressive intent and aggression without professionalism is bound to cause cracks in the team bonding and RP No ball incident may be due to inner team rivalry.

Posted by Ozcricketwriter on (April 14, 2013, 2:49 GMT)

If you aren't going to use Christian to bowl the last over, after he had conceded just 13 off 2 overs, then what is the point of having him in the side? He is going to need to be dumped now, as he hasn't even got to double figures yet and hasn't taken a wicket. I am sure that Christian will be furious that he wasn't trusted with the final over. Christian is a magnificent final over specialist. As for RP Singh, it was a horrible over, starting with 2 boundary balls off the first 2 balls, and he was very lucky that the match went down to the last ball. A very poor over bowled. The last ball had drama, but why bowl it to be that obviously a no ball? It makes me wonder if perhaps some of his other balls earlier in the over were also marginal no balls. Awful stuff from RP Singh. He was clearly the wrong choice for the final over. Christian would have known that his IPL career was on the line and, surely, would have bowled accordingly.

Lets not debate about skills, talent etc. The CSK guys are cool, calm and composed- all of them. RCB guys, well most if not all, are the opposite and that made a difference. Dhoni's calmness is gravitating towards the rest of the team.

Posted by   on (April 14, 2013, 1:31 GMT)

I am a die hard fan of RC Bangalore. One thing that concerns we always is the bowling... they dont have a good consistent bowler in their side....Look, today it is because of RP Singh that the match is lost.... I also do not have confidence in Vinay Kumar even though he has picked up the most number of wickets so far. They lack confidence and consistency....Even Murli Karthik is not good under pressure. How sad for RCB not to have a consistent bowler despite a strong batting line up with people like Gayle, Deviliers and Kohli. RCB can win matches as long as they trio do well... the bowlers cannot win them any matches if the batters failed. Wishing all the luck to RCB.

It is not the no ball which cost rcb the match. R p bowled 2 length balls first up in last over which cost them 10 runs. Even after playing 10 years of first class and intl cricket, r p does not when to bowl Yorkers and when length balls. Same case with all Indian fast bowlers except zaheer. Munaf, nehra, Pathan. Vinay kumar, yadav, dinda etc.

Posted by TheGuruji on (April 14, 2013, 0:38 GMT)

Sir Jadeja had 1 ball and 2 runs to win. Guess what, he won with 1 ball to spare!!! Hail Sir J :)

Posted by TheUltimateTruth on (April 14, 2013, 0:34 GMT)

CSK chasing was a big advantage not because the pitch played any different between the two innings, but because their batsman knew exactly how aggressive they need to be at every given point. Hussey and Vijay put them in quite a hole though.

Posted by   on (April 14, 2013, 0:33 GMT)

If murali played results would have been different. This is how csk are gaining advantage by not allowing lankan players to play in chennai. This is simply exploiting the home conditions by discriminating players.

What a game, this shows u how crazy IPL can get...its the nba of cricket.

Congrats CSK... RBC lost due to lots of miss fielding in later stage of CSK innings it cost RBC lost... Kohli is not good captain, he is getting more angry and he can't able drive his team in right direction...

Posted by CricketpunditUSA on (April 13, 2013, 23:10 GMT)

9 out of 11 in Csk are match winners. Nannes is not that bad too. In rcb, there are only 3 match winners. If 2 out of 3 fail with the bat, they will crumble. So look for a day when two out of kohl, gayle and ab fail... You had hits from both ends when Csk batted. But only ab was scoring in the last two overs and that was the difference between the two teams not the last no ball. Rcb was at least 12 runs shorter if not more.... Sending Ravi ramapal at number 6??? Gimme a break... How can you win ??? They have pray 2 out of these three guys stay till the end or Dan Christian hit some blows..

seeing RP's no ball remind me of no balls by Amir & Asif no balls

What about Dan Christian no ball which was actually a cost the team 1 run...

Posted by   on (April 13, 2013, 21:41 GMT)

This is nothing new to me, I was a DC fan & I would see the bowlers of that team get smoked for 40-70+ runs in last 5 or so overs & RP singh was one of the big culprits in those death overs. The worst thing is he has that smile on his face that doesnt go away, its almost a nervous facial reaction. Its sorta funny to watch but also infuriating that hes leaking runs badly!!!! I am glad he isnt on the hyderabad team anymore because I would be bald lol.

Poor Captaincy by Virat , he should have bowled himself in the last over , so that Sir RJ would have finished the game with 6 balls to spare.

As a cks fan, I would like to thank the csk team management and the owners for cultivating such a potent team that we believe will always give in all it has till the last ball.....every single time. And that's what I'm proud to support. Thank you CHENNAI SUPER KINGS we love you Good luck ;)

Posted by Cricketfan11111 on (April 13, 2013, 21:15 GMT)

Last ball noballs happened before. It happened today. It will happen in the future as well. Bowlers are human. In tense situation like this it is natural to be nervous. RPSingh's Ist ball went for four, it was a lucky edge. Only the 2nd ball was bad, went for 6. Next three were good, only cost 4 runs.

Posted by InnocentGuy on (April 13, 2013, 21:05 GMT)

@crindex, surely you are kidding about Hussey and Vijay?

Posted by   on (April 13, 2013, 20:58 GMT)

I read in espncricinfo, states "When Sir Jadeja wants to get a run, he really does make the bowler bowl a no ball!", funny:). But the fact is he really improved on shot selections and thriving while huge adrenaline pumps! It not only make worth for his buy to CSK but also for our national team. Good luck JADDU!

Posted by passionatecricbug on (April 13, 2013, 20:52 GMT)

R.P. Singh had problems with front foot no ball even when he was in team India. He is a habitual no-baller, and anyone who watches his games knows it. Arun Karthik is a young player who has yet to do something noteworthy to catch the eyeballs? Nobody remembers a man who rotated the strike for just three balls and that too in the first innings of a match. But if he had hit sixes on all of the remaining deliveries he would certainly have been noticed for his useful cameo. There's nothing special about these two instances. Please don't try to make a mountain of molehill.

Posted by Guru2807 on (April 13, 2013, 20:44 GMT)

@Keverpere... CSK has unfair advantage because its local told is good ? how it is unfair ? who are Vijay, Raina, Ashwin 6 years back, Raina was not even a permanent batsmen for India then, only after IPL started these three evolved big time, I still remember at 2008 people thought Chennai has no chance, it has only one good indian batsman in Dhoni.. Badri was not considered as a T20 batsmen, nobody thought he will play these many games for CSK, but later these three raised their bar and Badri turned out to be a great middle order batsman for CSK..

Like Chennai talents did, it is time for other team's local talents to stand up and deliver.. instead of claiming unfair advantage to CSK or Mumbai..

Posted by msdhoni123 on (April 13, 2013, 20:38 GMT)

If pujara comes back he needs to open with gayle. As he can anchor the innings and agarwal can strike the strike the bowl lower down the order. Plus Arun Karthik should make way for S.Tiwary then the will have more striking power and AB can take the gloves. If this changes are made RCB are a side to beat. Because depth in batting was the weakest link plus zaheer khan returns will be huge boost to the bowling.

Posted by   on (April 13, 2013, 20:26 GMT)

All said and done "Sir Jadeja" can still win a match when 2 needed of the last ball, gets out caught doin so!!!.It can be done only a Man worth a 2.1m and a SUPERSTAR

Posted by crindex on (April 13, 2013, 20:20 GMT)

Hussey and Vijay opening at the top soesn't work again ! That is the reason for this game getting to the wire. Otherwise CSK could smash 166 in 18 or so overs since they have the fir power in the middle and down to its tail. CSK is in denial about Murali Vijay and Hussey. Hussey is old and trite. Vijay is suitable for Test match format and not suitable for T20. Will CSK find some replacement for these two and experiment with other openers for the next few games?

Posted by   on (April 13, 2013, 20:11 GMT)

How many times has this happened, another close encounter with Rcb for the third consecutive year..As a CSK fan, it always gives me the goosebumps wen u play against RCB (coz u always have a hunch tat something weird will happen at the end) just lik an Indo-Pak match

Posted by joneywsly on (April 13, 2013, 20:08 GMT)

@Rally_Windies: buddy let me tell something, to be honest kohli is not a captain material. and AB should be the captain for RCB, a emotional captain who cant think well when he is irritated is always going to be a loser. so whoever thinks kohli is the future indian captain, i would ask "will he be able to talk after a 4-0 whitewash like we got in australia? i don't want to see him fight wearing an indian jersey" surely i don't see him becoming the captain anytime soon, unless he changes his attitude.

Posted by crickketlover on (April 13, 2013, 20:02 GMT)

it was a super match. I almost thought CSK was going to lose when they got Dhoni out. Good that the umpire could see the no ball - earlier the same umpire could not hear the sound of Kholi's edge to Dhoni and did not give Kholi out. Anyway, finally it ended up a win for CSK although they need to look at their top order batsmen (1,2,3) as they are not helping the run chase.

Posted by YogifromNY on (April 13, 2013, 20:02 GMT)

There was just that tiny bit missing from RCB today, not just the last-ball no-ball from RP Singh. It was manifest in so many little ways that cost them the match - a couple of extra runs conceded in the field (by Virat, no less!), the catch dropped by RP off Badrinath when he was barely off the mark, sending Ravi Rampaul to bat in the 19th over and his wasting of 4 balls for his nought, the silly big shots attempted and balls wasted by Arun Karthik at the end. If you add all these little mistakes up, you are looking at potentially 10-15 runs that RCB could have put on the board or saved. CSK and MI are the only two complete sides. Every other side is overly dependent on a few great players and have multiple mediocre ones. RCB will be severely found out when their big three batters all fail in one game (which is inevitable at least once) and they have to rely on their other bits and pieces batsmen.

Posted by anton_ego on (April 13, 2013, 20:01 GMT)

As an RCB fan, two decisions surprised me. Vettori must have been a straight swap for Murali. He is too good a player to miss out. And to send in Rampaul at that stage was surprising. But not impressed with Arun Karthik either. To let ABDe face just 9 out of the 20 balls after Kohli was dismissed was an unforgivable sin. If he had faced atleast 3 more balls, the result would have been different. Sad to see such a great knock not deserving a win.

Posted by   on (April 13, 2013, 20:01 GMT)

I am CSK Fan. But I don't like win's like this from CSK. THey are far better than this. But remember that kohli got out early in the first innings and he has not walked out. So may be that cost them the match.

Posted by wishu007 on (April 13, 2013, 19:53 GMT)

I wonder whats wrong with R P Singh smiling after bowling no ball ??.Now Kohli should do same thing to him what Gavaskar said in extraa innings. He deserves it :-) ! @RCB I think its time to bring back Zaheer, Unadkat,Pujara & Sourabh Tiwari if they are fit enough to play. AB should keep wickets now onwards.

Posted by BRUTALANALYST on (April 13, 2013, 19:51 GMT)

I think it's only right CSK won Kohli middled Bravo behind before he had got going and Bravo was given lbw when he was about half a foot outside off , great contest but at the end of the day the best team and captain won.

Posted by Cricketfan11111 on (April 13, 2013, 19:35 GMT)

Got to feel sorry for RCB. Few umpiring errors in the match. Kohli- caught behind if given, would've changed the course of the match. Well done Jadeja. He kept his cool and won the match for CSK. What a match? Never discount CSK. They can win matches from near impossible situations.

Posted by SIR_RJ on (April 13, 2013, 19:33 GMT)

I was alive when Lord Rohit Sharma and Sir Ravindra Jadeja got Man of the Match award on the same day.

When you give Sir Ravindra Jadeja one ball to get 2 runs he will win it with one ball to spare !

RP Singh didn't bowl a no ball...the crease moved backwards as Sir Ranvindra Jadeja was batting...

Posted by TRAM on (April 13, 2013, 19:32 GMT)

This match should not have gone this close. MHussey with 6 of 16 made it so.

one day it will cost him the captaincy ....

one day.......

RCB is good team if they did lose today.,They gave their best. I have to say CSK is a great team, Not because they have won IPL couple of times and been to finals couple of times. They are one team who have fought till last ball. they are one team that has given surprise to everyone till last minute. True mark of great team. Go CSK.

Posted by Baseball-Sucks on (April 13, 2013, 19:20 GMT)

@overthrow ; I think Kohli belongs to the third category where It states some can never be a captain.

Posted by   on (April 13, 2013, 19:19 GMT)

RP thanks for gifting the match to CSK!

Giving a loose ball six or boundary was more believable, but SUCH BIG NO BALL?

I doubt a rookie first timer, wouldnt have bowled such big NO BALL comewhatmay.

Posted by suve on (April 13, 2013, 19:19 GMT)

What if Murali Played, Syed bowled brilliantly but only bowled 3 overs. Maybe if Murali played, Murali would've bowled all 4 of his overs for sure. Such a shame when sports and politics mix. CSK deserved to win though.

Posted by ramli on (April 13, 2013, 19:16 GMT)

Assuming that if the last ball would not have been a no-ball RCB would have won is absolutely naive. We can also say that because it was a no-ball Jadeja played like that... else ... he would have done it differently to fetch victory for CSK!!! Come on Monga ... be a sport and give some space to others

Posted by TheUltimateTruth on (April 13, 2013, 19:08 GMT)

TRAM has a point. I think Hussey is taking too long to get in the groove. Vijay is no big shakes either, but there aren't better Indian batsmen within CSK. For the Chennai pitch, I would think about Anirudha in the place of Hussey and Albie in the place of Mohit Sharma. For bouncier pitches, I would bring in today's combination (including Hussey).

Posted by NP_NY on (April 13, 2013, 18:59 GMT)

@Rohit: I don't know if Kohli is a bad captain, but sorry to say, he is not a good captain either. He has a lot to learn from Dhoni about staying calm. RCB is already at the bottom of the Fair Play chart and Kohli is still running around picking fights and yelling at his own bowlers. I love Kohli as a batsman, but as a captain he has a long way to go. And yes, giving the last over to RP was a huge mistake.

Posted by overthrow on (April 13, 2013, 18:58 GMT)

Some are born to be captains, Some needs to learn to be captain. Kohli false in the second category, He with all these experience will surely make a strong indian captain.

Posted by Aryaparis on (April 13, 2013, 18:54 GMT)

CSK is playing so poorly and yet winning these games. Imagine how things are going to be in the middle/end of the tournament when CSK will be firing on all cylinders. RCB loses whenever they show Mallya on screen in Chennai :)

Posted by   on (April 13, 2013, 18:54 GMT)

Best game of the IPL so far. this beats the Sunrisers Vs RCB super over match for sure. CSK is the only team who would have the belief that they would win from that situation. That is the reason they win these close matches and will keep winning in the future.

Posted by Aryaparis on (April 13, 2013, 18:52 GMT)

While Kohli is India's future, he is never going to be a great like Sachin or Dhoni simply because he is a rogue. First the fight with Gambir in the previous game, now he was clearly out but will not walk back. He has no qualities of becoming a great. What is unfortunate is he has learnt nothing from neither Sachin nor Dhoni.

Posted by BRUTALANALYST on (April 13, 2013, 18:44 GMT)

What is Dan Christians purpose as 4th overseas player ? if they want an all rounder they should give Barnwell the place, he's a much cleaner hitter and can boost the end of an innings in a Pollard roll like RCB need and he's also a better bowler. . Rampaul had a good debut he was the pick of the bowlers for RCB today collecting what should have been the winning wickets, experienced top class international pace bowling with late swing is always going to be an asset for a side.

Posted by gauravm5 on (April 13, 2013, 18:44 GMT)

Sir Jadeja needed to score 2 runs from 1 ball to win and he won with 1 ball left

Posted by msdhoni123 on (April 13, 2013, 18:44 GMT)

When Sir Jadeja got out,he made sure it was a no-ball. On a serious note even after loosing 6 wickets only CSK and MI have the depth to win even after loosing so much wickets. CSK got batting until Ashwin who bats at number 8 and same with MI who got Mitchell Johnson. RCB serious lacks in batting depth. Seriously sending in Rampaul at number 6 someone who bats at number 11 for West Indies. For RCB to be successful team they need Pujara to open with Gayle, Agarwal to come in at 5 and S.Tiwary to come in at 6. When Zaheer returns he can bat at 7 and just slog his way out.

Posted by TRAM on (April 13, 2013, 18:43 GMT)

People keep saying MHussey is great in T20 ! Sorry, the best strike rate he could give is 120 that too once in 10 innings. His batting today ( as has been many many times) pathetic by T20 standards. He belongs to the Ricky Ponting or Tendulkar (mostly, not today), Geoff Boycott, etc If you guys want to protect your wicket at the cost of run rate, please go play test matches. Dont come near T20. Albie can come in place of MHussey. I would force Badrinath to open innings with MVijay. No options.

Posted by   on (April 13, 2013, 18:41 GMT)

Posted by kevepere on (April 13, 2013, 18:27 GMT)

In the IPL the top 3 are so sure this time . CSK , MI and RCB. From that CSK has the best combinations . However the other spot is also quite certain when KKR starts going. None of the other teams got good combination of spinners and fast bowlers. Even teams like hyderbad although got a gud bowling lineup they are lacking Indian batting talents. No wonder CSK is doing well they have Raina, Badrinath, Jadeja ,Vijay and Ashwin. what about hydrbad vihari, pa reddy and a.a reddy. This is so not fair! MI are trying to be more popular than win by getting ponting. MI needs to get a better combination because this is t20. Not a Test match for 2 legends to show their batting skills. unfair advantage for CSK and MI ! CSK will win again boring same old thin. Why cant other teams have some quality batsman

Posted by Ross_the_Boss on (April 13, 2013, 18:26 GMT)

well kohli cant blame RP for over-stepping..he himself misfielded twice in the last 6 overs! but i wouldnt like to be RP in the post-mortem team meeting with Kohli!! but overall a fantastic game...and dhoni was coool as was Jadeja

no offence but what is wrong with kohli? really rp singh bowled horribly and you would let him bowl the final over? even if he was good in the past look at the present match, he was horrible why not even chance syeed? seems overconfidence and as usual in ipl only attempting to push indian cricketers to fame or fame opportunities. extremely poor from kohli.

Posted by AneYako on (April 13, 2013, 18:14 GMT)

RP singh was an embarrassment. And Kohli was misfielding? He is lucky his team is strong because he is not a good captain. For the most part the indian fast bowlers this tournament have been pretty mediocre. Also the team missed Murali in the middle overs, yay for Politics in sports

Posted by Tal_Botvinnik on (April 13, 2013, 18:13 GMT)

Poor Captaincy from kohli giving RP the last over, He should have bowled him out earlier. ANd Sir Jadeja! What a legend :)

Why Dan Christian ? so mediocre with bat and worse with ball gets completely destroyed on regular basis would of liked to see RCB give Barnwell a chance rather than Christian again.
