Shaun Marsh to join Kings XI Punjab squad

ESPNcricinfo staff

Shaun Marsh will join the Kings XI Punjab squad on Saturday after passing a fitness test in Australia on Friday. Marsh had been recovering from a ruptured hamstring tendon behind his right knee, an injury he picked while playing for Australia A in February.

"I'm feeling fit and healthy so I can't wait to get back to playing cricket again and am really excited about the next five weeks in the IPL," Marsh said in a media release issued by Perth Scorchers, his team in the Big Bash .

Marsh's recovery is a big boost for Punjab, whose top order has been struggling badly, including the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Their coach Darren Lehmann conceded earlier this week that it was a big concern. With 1603 runs, he is by far Kings XI Punjab's best batsman. He has a century and the most number of fifties (13). He has also hit the most number of boundaries for Punjab (223) and has the best average (45.80), and one of the highest strike-rates in the team.

@TSJ07: Yes you are right that they don't have the best indian players, but i simply cannot agree that they don't have good international players. Dave Hussey, Azhar Mahmood, Luke Pomersbach, David Miller, Dimitri Mascarenhas... This may not be the list of most flamboyant T20 players, but they surely are as good and effective T20 players as anyone who's fetching $600,000 in the league, or maybe even better.

Good to know that Marsh is back! Should lift the batting up! My team- Pomersbach, Mandeep, Marsh, Vohra, Hussey, Mahmood, Chawla, Gony, Parveen, Awana, Bhargava/Saini. Toss up between Saini and Bhargava depending on conditions. Saini can be used to shore up batting and Bhargava can be used for more spin options. Hussey should be captain.

Why is that Pomersbach not playing, It is time for Gilchrist to move on to the team mentors role, 4 foreign players selected should be Marsh,Pomersbach at the top of the innings, Miller/D.Hussey and Ryan Harris/Mahmood depending on the pitch

Indeed it will be huge boost for KXIP who do not have best of foreign and Indian players. And who he is going to replace? Gilly has Miller and Pomersbach on the bench and this could be the reason why KXIP has won less matches than it has lost. My 4 foreign players will be Marsh, Pomersbach, Miller and Azhar. KXIP should open with Azhar and Marsh followed by Mandeep, Vohra, Miller, Pomersbach, Saini, Gony, Chawla, Parveen, Awana. this team can give any team run for their money as team has hard hitters much needed for IPL.

Great to see Marsh back. He was in great form in the shorter forms of the game in Australia before injury struck. Looking him to get some games under his belt in the IPL so he can play in the Champs Trophy in the UK.
