Viv Richards, the former West Indies captain, has joined the Delhi Daredevils as the team's ambassador. He will also have an "advisory role" with the franchise, who are all but out of the running this season, having lost their first six matches.

"I am looking forward to working with the Delhi Daredevils this season," Richards, one of the game's greatest batsman, said after interacting with the team. "I know the team has many players of proven quality and others who have immense talent and hunger to succeed at this level and higher. It will be a great experience for me to be their sounding board and inspire them to deliver quality performances."

Daredevils team mentor TA Sekar said the plan had been to sign on Richards before the season began. "There are a number of youngsters in the squad who can make the most of the opportunity to interact with Sir Viv and evolve as cricketers," Sekar said. "He was keen to be with the team at the start of the season but he had prior commitments and could join us only now."

This will be Richards' first stint with an IPL team.

Sehwag's old form has come to life.Vivian has nothing to do with that.Sehwag has been a world class batsman, everyone goes thorough a phase where they experience the bitterness of failure.

Now DD gets the real Sir, after CSK's Sir Jaddu.

the greatest batsman of his time....

Funny world. Sir Vivian was just down in Melbourne, Australia in an advisory or bench-coach capacity for a T20 club. Now here he is off to India to take on a similar role. However, no work at home. It has been said that (quote): "He's too rough on the players." In the Caribbean, the eschewing of some of their own, is par for the course.

DD is virtually out of this year's tournament. They are just the party poppers now. Whoever gets defeated by them will struggle to push for top 4 places. Although Viv addition is a good thing for them to happen.

Wish best of luck to Sir Viv Richards , Sehwag & Delhi. All of you who don't like them don't bother to see today's match. Ferozshah Kotla is going to have fireworks today.

If DD can lose 6 matches in a row, they can win 6 matches in a row as well. They have the talent to beat any team. Hope Viv brings much needed luck into DD camp.

Sir Viv can only help by playing in the DD eleven, he cannot provide any direction to sloppy captaincy and shoddy performance.

  • tpjpower on April 21, 2013, 6:38 GMT

I guess he'll bat at first drop?

This is too good to be true! If Sir Richards can somehow transform the hapless Sehwag into the swashbuckling Sehwhack, it would make retirement less embarrassing for Viru.

  • Cricket_Man on April 21, 2013, 5:27 GMT

The way Delhi Daredevils is playing at the moment, I think Sir. Viv should be playing in the team rather than having an advisory role.

Its too little too late for delhi i reckon....

  • on April 21, 2013, 5:15 GMT

Hope he drills some finer aspect of footwork to Viru who is all but hand eye co-ordination this might turn out to be some turn around for him if only he listens..

  • on April 21, 2013, 0:35 GMT

Maybe Delhi will do better if he starts playing in the matches for them.

Viv Richards can't change the result if the team players don't learn to be Disciplined & Responsible (D & R). These are the 2 words needed to be instilled. In the last match against RR, Warner played a rank bad shot to be bowled. Even a school level Cricketer shows more responsibility! These players are highly paid to be (D & R). Richards is not playing for them on the field. You can not teach "Old Dogs" New Tricks. Only way to correct this is to cancel their contract if there is no performance. That will produce instant results!

The correction is "The greatest batsman of all time"

Hope they win the next home game against Mumbai.. or else that will be the worst by any IPL team in a IPL season start i guess.. come on Delhi.. show them u can still win matches by opening ur account tomorrow..

  • SL_Boy on April 20, 2013, 17:49 GMT

Keep it up guys, still it is not late

  • TNAmarkFromIndia on April 20, 2013, 16:57 GMT

Couldn't need him at a better time. I don't think they have it in them to win 9 out of their remaining 10 now though.
