Big Picture

Rajasthan Royals' most recent opening stands are perhaps the most telling statement of how important a good start is for a side that doesn't bat deep. Their openers put on only 10 against Royal Challengers Bangalore and Royals were soundly thrashed; they put on 62 against Mumbai Indians and Royals coasted to a big win. As they take on Chennai Super Kings, a team with the best home record in the history of the IPL, Rahul Dravid would hope his openers can shake off their inconsistency and bat the way they did against Mumbai.

Given the collapse that ensued after Rahul Dravid's dismissal against Royal Challengers, Royals may contemplate bringing in Owais Shah, but dropping a foreign player will create a selection dilemma. Super Kings, meanwhile, will take note of another factor against Royals: they haven't shot down any big chases in IPL 2013, yet. Of their six games, Royals have chased a target only once, a paltry 124 against Kings XI Punjab.

Super Kings' campaign has moved in fits and starts, from thrashing Kings XI to losing to Pune Warriors and almost losing a low-scoring chase against Knight Riders. At the moment, they rely heavily on Michael Hussey, MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja for their runs. With M Vijay and Suresh Raina inconsistent, their over-reliance on Hussey and Dhoni can be a shortcoming Royals can exploit.

Super Kings have a better bowling attack with. Albie Morkel, Mohit Sharma, R Ashwin, Chris Morris, Dwayne Bravo and Jadeja doing well for the side. Although they lack a big name, the Royals bowling unit has looked cohesive with the only concern arising from the inconsistency of Sreesanth and Shaun Tait.

Players to watch

In the five games that he's played since missing Super Kings' first game, Chris Morris has settled into the line-up. He's taken nine wickets in five matches so far, the second highest wicket-taker for Super Kings this season after Dwayne Bravo. He's a good batsman, too, and a move up the order might benefit the side.

Before the tournament started, Rahul Dravid stressed on Shane Watson's importance for the side. The Australian allrounder, one of the top Twenty20 cricketers in the world, also bowled for the first time in four months against Royal Challengers, picking up two wickets in two overs. He got Royals off to their best start against Mumbai and the team will bank on him to do the same against Chennai.

Stats and trivia

  • Michael Hussey (217) and MS Dhoni (147) have scored 41% of Super Kings' runs so far in this season.
  • Siddharth Trivedi is the highest wicket-taker for Rajasthan Royals with 59 wickets from 55 matches.
  • Ajinkya Rahane is the first Royals batsman to cross 200 runs in this season.

Let's see how Holder holds the ball

Posted by   on (April 22, 2013, 15:11 GMT)

If Watson can bowl today then we should include Cooper instead of Faulkner and bring in Owais Shah. An extra batsmen against Chennai is good !

Posted by TRAM on (April 22, 2013, 15:05 GMT)

@Vishnu, to your question, "what happened to murali vijay?". The way he got out in every innings in this IPL, they were all playing across the line shots which are high risk shots (even in defensive shots like the last one he got out). Until he plays straight for the initial few balls at least , he is bound to fail again. It is amazing how a player like him who can hit straight sixes effortlessly would like to go across so soon...

Also his foot work seems wanting which I think is only due to his low confidence.

Posted by TeamRocker on (April 22, 2013, 14:58 GMT)

RR team selection: Chennai is a slow track, and Chennai begin to attack towards the end of the innings. Thus, you need good death bowlers who can use the two-paced wicket: Faulkner and Cooper. Watson provides the X factor, so he's in too. Hodge, I feel, has been just a touch disappointing and I think Owais Shah deserves a game since he plays spinners much better.

Dravid and Rahane are automatic selections, and Binny looks in good nick. I'm not sure about the Samson/Yagnik issue. Chandila is in too, and because this is Chennai (and they have no part timers), maybe Chavan should be given a go. That leaves us with a Trivedi vs Sreshanth showdown. Again, this is Chennai, so Trivedi can probably use the conditions better. Team: Watto, Rahane, Dravid, Shah, Binny, Yagnik, Faulkner, Cooper, Chandila, Chavan, Trivedi

The WALL of World Cricket will Rock ..CSK with ease/Comfort. Good Luck Royals..

Cat and mouse game. Nobody is an underdog or abovedog. Rooting for CSK feeling sorry for Rahul.

what happened to murali vijay?

Posted by Yasin123Patel on (April 22, 2013, 14:30 GMT)

I don't understand why some people don't include Faulkner in their probable team. He hasn't done wrong since he get place in team. His economy is always under 6 in every match plus he takes wicket in all matches he played.

Posted by Sunman81 on (April 22, 2013, 14:25 GMT)

When both the teams have same points, I am not sure why RR is being called as underdogs... RR is formidable side playing @ home and I am sure CSK will not be treating them lightly... I hope CSK gets their opening combination right in this match...

Posted by   on (April 22, 2013, 14:12 GMT)

CSK Playing XI:

1.Opening: 1&2 Anirudha,Hussey 3. Raina 4.Badrinath 5. Dhoni 6. Jadeja 7. Bravo 8. Morris 9. Ashwin 10.Nannes/ Morkel (Nannes not fit). 11. Sharma [OR]

2.Opening: 1&2 du Plessis,Raina 3.Badrinath 4. Dhoni 5. Jadeja 6. Bravo 7. Anirudha, 8. Morris 9. Ashwin 10.Nannes/ Morkel (Nannes not fit). 11. Sharma

Posted by Dravid_Pujara_Gravitas_Atheist on (April 22, 2013, 14:11 GMT)

I would bring-in Owais for Tait and Cooper for Faulkner. The four overseas therefore will be: Watson, Hodge, Owais, Cooper.

Posted by   on (April 22, 2013, 14:01 GMT)

Rahul Dravid Must consider keeping options for him..Ashok Manaria is good at hitting out of the mark and has been good in previous seasons..IF Dravid will keep th stumps than RR can include Manaria or a bowler Rahul Shukla/Harmeet Singh in place of Yagnik..

Csk is rocking.... Go ahead

When Faf Du Pleses is gonna back to CSK?

Posted by ramv11 on (April 22, 2013, 13:28 GMT)

Whoever wins this game will top the points table. CSK usually doesn't like to garner attention like that. They like to stay in the middle of the table.

Posted by   on (April 22, 2013, 13:26 GMT)

Looking at the recent matches at Chepauk 160 will be a good score to defend who ever bats first. CSK's bowling is in very good rhythm this season. If they bat first and score 160 it would be very hard for RR to chase it down. If CSK has to chase 160 it will be 60:40 in favour of CSK. The contest would be between RR's solid top order vs CSK's powerful lower middle. T20 is all about how you finish an innings. This is where CSK is brilliant with Dhoni, Jadeja, Bravo and Morkel. If their top order clicks the score will be not less than 175+.

Posted by muneeswaran.m on (April 22, 2013, 13:09 GMT)

CSK has some high priority tasks in front of them that they have to take action immediately, else it will be too late.

1. They have to drop Albie immediately. His role in the team is a big question. He can cement his place in the squad only by his decent bowling performance (just like Bravo and Morris) that he could not deliver in last three games. CSK cannot keep him in the squad only for his 'once in a while' blistering with bat. If you cannot turn the things around with 7 batsmen in a 20 overs game, neither you can do with 8 batsmen. His place should go to a foreign pace bowler (Hilfenhause or Nannes). Power play overs and death overs will be always like a horror movie with Albie. Huge percentage of risk can be reduced with ones like Hilfenhause / Nannes.

2. Murali Vijay should be either dropped or given license to go after bowlers in initial overs. He is very good when he is aggressive. His skilfulness with lofted shots will be very handy in power play overs. if he gets out, team

Posted by DINESHCC on (April 22, 2013, 13:05 GMT)

If Ashwin is going to open with Hussey, Aparajith can be included in the place of M.Vijay

Posted by   on (April 22, 2013, 13:02 GMT)

Rajasthan Royals are no underdogs. They have a balanced size. If you think that the money spent is the yardstick to label a team as an underdog than your labelling is correct otherwise not. Punjab & Pune are underdogs.

Posted by   on (April 22, 2013, 12:58 GMT)

csk ll rock again in this match too.

Posted by   on (April 22, 2013, 12:55 GMT)

My Team 1.Watson 2. Rahane 3.Dravid 4.Owais shah 5.Hodge 6.Binny 7.Yagnik 8. Faulkner / Cooper 9. Chandila 10. Sreesanth 11.Trivedi

Posted by   on (April 22, 2013, 12:53 GMT)

in this ipl only teams with strong bowling dept have won

RR strength is bowling. so they should pick five good bowlers and this will not allow CSK to make any quick runs

CSK bowling is average, so even average players can score well against CSK

if RR can reduce CSK to below 150 they can win this match

Posted by   on (April 22, 2013, 11:55 GMT)

@All: Kusal perera cant play as he is a srilankan and the match is played in chepauk.. Anyways, CSK will win :)

Posted by shrastogi on (April 22, 2013, 11:52 GMT)

Royals would be underdogs in this match despite top order problems of CSK. Though their loss to RCB was mainly due to low total the selection of Tait over Cooper was surprising and was a huge gamble. Bowlers like Tait wont be consistent and are rewarding only on a given day. So they need to be played only in the games where the team is par with opponents. so Royals should rule out Tait against bigger sides. As rightly said in the writeup they need to open well and also need one player to bat all the way. Against CSK though if they choke runs CSK would be under pressure. CSK is getting too many 60 runs in last 5 overs situations and if you bowl well and catch well they neednt pull it off all the times. I'm a CSK fan having been from Lucknow where no IPL team belongs mainly because of Dhoni but some of his decisions perplex me. There ws no need to send Ashwin up against KKR. The saving grace was Jadeja who made up for the blunder. The team needs to rotate strike badly.

Posted by magesh78 on (April 22, 2013, 11:44 GMT)

Here we go.. Good match ahead.. This can help to define CSK's strength for some extend. Right now more pressure on Mr.Cric and surely that needs to be resolved. Otherwise Playoff and other matches would be very difficult for them. Try opening with Raina and allow Vijay to play down the order. This may sort out the opening batting issue. Best of luck Chennai and don't take any match as easy one.

Posted by Saravanan_sarwan on (April 22, 2013, 11:23 GMT)

Still now CSK chased run 6 times out of 7 match. dhoni needs to improve how to win toss . Better give one more chance to vijay and raina. if not play well today then CSK have to think other option. Rajasthan is good team only but haven't tested yet properly when they chased. If CSK bat first most properly CSK wil dominent 80%-20% chance to win. if CSK choose chase then only Rajastan have a chance to win 50-50% ratio.

Posted by Cricketfan11111 on (April 22, 2013, 11:20 GMT)

I don't think faf will be match fit today. Don't disturb the winning combination. Should try to get Watson out early. Batting order: Hussey, Vijay, Raina, Bravo, Dhoni, Jadeja, Albie, Badri(floater), Morris, Ashwin, Sharma. Expect Vijay and Raina to come good today. Rahul is selecting his players cleverly. It is interesting to see what he comes up with today. If CSK play to their potential, win for CSK.

Get Kusal Perera In..,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Posted by   on (April 22, 2013, 10:29 GMT)

Give Kusal Perera another game. He is being wasted on RR bench!!

Posted by devdevabrata on (April 22, 2013, 10:25 GMT)

I think what dhonI doing at this stage is best coz losing 1 or 2 game at this stage will not be a worry but the team management and player Gould ready for the business end of the tournament hope F D gets a chance today and Vijay or Hussy should up the Antwerp for his team in 1st 6 overs the bowling is good and the fielding is also good but those 2game which Chennai lose only because of 1st 6overs the batting line up should be Vijay&albie or bravo or Hussy and the batting line up should be change by the nature of the batsman who got out if but some one should be at there to anchor the innings for at least 13 to 15 overs go Chennai rock the stadium in all department best of luck most importantly if FD is available then bring him in place of bravo not in place of albie because royals spinner is not so good against left hander best of luck Chennai whistle podu

Posted by FanofWATSON on (April 22, 2013, 10:22 GMT)

Remove Shaun Tait and bring Owaiz Shah and give Watto 4overs of bowling becz Watto is top batsman as well as top T20 bowler. The four overseas players should be Watto, Owaiz, Hodge and any one in Kooper r Faulkner. Then RR will be more stronger team than CSK in BATTING.

Posted by DD_f0rever on (April 22, 2013, 10:19 GMT)

Well the gud news for RR is Watson looks fit, bowling well and picking wickets as well; have always believed Watson as an alrounder is more dangerous than he as a batsman.Nw u will see improvement and consistency in his batting too.And the most sensible decison 4 RR wld b to bring Kooper in, in place of Tait.Kooper is in good bowlig form n always a handy batsman.

There is NO place for Kushal Perera as 4 other overseas players are doing better job than him and completes the team balance. Watson, Hodge, Kooper, Faulkner.

And Yagnik WK-batsman is doing decent job. So DOORS shut fro Perera until/ unless somoine gets injured. Good luck RR.

Posted by Cricinfo_Paven on (April 22, 2013, 9:49 GMT)

Its time for CSK to get rid of M Vijay. My Playing XI would be 1.Faf, 2.M Hussey 3. Raina, 4.Baba Aparajeeth, 5.Badrinath, 6.Dhoni, 7.Jadeja, 8.Bravo, 9.Chris Morris, 10.Ashwin, 11. Mohit Sharma

Posted by Qa_ankit on (April 22, 2013, 9:25 GMT)

yes for sure tough ask. But i think they are not the under dogs. They are the team just without Big Names, But they have quality players who wanted to play together. Also I believe they are not in pressure. Its Chennai who are. Its their home ground. They are the one's who have won some lucky games i should say. You always can not ask for Dhoni, Sir Jaddu or hussey to fire. If RR bat first and score above 170, then boy tough tasks is for Chennai. And i think match depends on Rahane and Watty. They have to make a solid and britting opening stand. If they do it, you will be looking for 180+ and for god sake if Watty stand there for 15 overs. Match is over for chennai i am sure. But yes these all are words that are nothing on ground. Need to fire. But agar my line up is: Watty, Rahane, Dravid, Binny, Hodge, Yagnik/Sasmon, Faulkner/ Cooper, Hogg (Atleast for this match),Trivedi, Rahul Shukla, Sreesanth or Chandila.

Two spinners i can think of this match. One chandila as Chennai has not

Posted by RajSuperman on (April 22, 2013, 9:20 GMT)

I think allrounders are over estimated but underperform :-).. All rounders are supposed to be good with bat and ball.. but now it seems like they are good with neither but average in one and well below average in the other.

Drop Albie and Bravo and get in Nannes and Faf. Also drop raina and Vijay as both are not performing in the last 5 matches and get baba and anirudha/ ankit.

I hope appam gets to play.. will be fun if not funny.

Posted by Narbavi on (April 22, 2013, 9:18 GMT)

@ Baseball-Sucks: LOL, an expert thinks that Watson can actually lose a game for RR, some people need a lot of knowledge about cricket and about Watson's abilities before making ridiculous claims, indians very well know how well he has performed all these years for RR and for Australia!! Just 6 months back he was the player of the tournament in the world cup!!

Posted by Architect12 on (April 22, 2013, 9:14 GMT)

Chennai shuld bring in faf for albie nd rajkoot for badri.... Hussey, vijay, faf du,raina,dhoni,jadeja,bravo,morris,ashwin,mohit,rajkoot...rajkoot can bowl wt albie can do nd duplessi can giv better start in de first 6 overs.... ,dhoni, sir, bravo, morris can go hard at de end...

Posted by   on (April 22, 2013, 9:06 GMT)

RR should consider S.Badree in place of Tait or can go with Brad Hogg..but they should not include Tait...Best Xi would be 1.Watson 2. Rahane 3. Dravid 4.Binny 5. Hodge 6. Yagnik/Samson 7.Cooper 8. Chandila 9. Badree/Hogg 10. Sreesanth 11. Trivedi

Posted by Narbavi on (April 22, 2013, 8:56 GMT)

If watson can bowl 4 overs then RR should bring in an extra batsman in the form of Sachin Baby and replace Hodge with Shah for this game as its a slow pitch and Shah plays spin better than Hodge!!

Posted by Vivek_Singh3089 on (April 22, 2013, 8:56 GMT)

Give a chance to Rahul Shukla against Chennai...he's been one of the most promising find for this season in fast bowling dept.. bowls in 136-146 kph range this guy can surely unsettle the batsman like Vijay, Raina N Badri with his raw pace...drop sreesanth...that guy is a pure hack. My Rajashtan xi should be 1) Watson 2) Rahane 3) Dravid 4) Hodge 5) Binny 6) Cooper 7) Yagnik 8) Faulkner 9) Chandila 10) Shukla 11) Trivedi.

Posted by   on (April 22, 2013, 8:55 GMT)

if watson will continue bowling then tey must bring perera ahead of tait or cooper. sree, trivedi, watson, faulkener, chandila, binny can be used for bowling.

1.perera 2.dravid 3.rahane 4.watson 5.hodge 6.binny 7.yagnik 8.faulkner 9.chandila 10.sree 11.trivedi or if not 1.watson 2.rahane 3.dravid 4.maneria 5.binny 6.hodge 7.yagnik 8.cooper 9.faulkner 10.sree 11.trivedi

Posted by Suchith007 on (April 22, 2013, 8:54 GMT)

Binny could be replaced with Rahul shukla, and cooper with owias shah, the team looks near perfect

Posted by KK_Cricket on (April 22, 2013, 8:45 GMT)

Rajasthan need to make use of their resources and try to play within those.. In Chennai, I would drop Watson down to no. 3 and play Hodge as opener.. Dravid can come in at 4 when spinners would be on as he is a very good player of spin and can handle Jadeja/Ashwin well.. And if Chennai happen to bat first, would open with Watson to get rid of Hussey early

Posted by jhovee on (April 22, 2013, 8:43 GMT)

Badri & Hussey should open the innings to avoid early dismissals & Vijay( known for hitting) can come at any order depend on how match progress. My team 11 for today's game -> 1.Hussey, 2.Badri, 3. Vijay/Anirudha, 4. Raina, 5. Dhoni, 6. Jadeja, 7. Bravo, 8. Ashwin, 9. Morris, 10. M Sharma 11. Nannes/Hilfenhaus

Posted by   on (April 22, 2013, 8:35 GMT)

My CSK team for all the remaining matches: Duplessis, Hussey, Raina, Dhoni, Bravo, Jadeja, Badrinath, Ashwin, Morris, Baba Aparajit, M.Sharma. great sure to lift IPL trophy for 3rd time

Posted by   on (April 22, 2013, 8:31 GMT)

i feel its hard for faf to walk into the time because csk are a very balanced and stable side where the foreign players are concerned. I would love to see nannes play but i think thats is hard unless one of the all rounders play very badly for next 2-3 matches. also i feel csk can give jadeja a break and get in aparajit.. or play aparajit in place of ashwin just to try him out or even get him in place of badri. just for this match though.. if he does well it will give them another potential option in future.

Posted by   on (April 22, 2013, 8:28 GMT)

CSK should drop M.Vijay & Albie Morkel and replace them with Baba Aparajit & Du Plessis. No body can beat such a side.Vijay is a great batsmen but is very casual, Morkel has lost his touch in bowling. Du plesis & M.Hussey will be lethal opening combination capable of scoring over 200/ or chasing any total.

Posted by Baseball-Sucks on (April 22, 2013, 8:26 GMT)

Don't worry CSK . You don't need to worry about a single darn thing. Watson (RR) will win it for you with his mediocre performance.

Posted by   on (April 22, 2013, 8:18 GMT)

Csk is strong but if watson and rahane give them gud start then csk strong batting l Line up wil fail

Posted by AllInFairNess on (April 22, 2013, 8:04 GMT)

@the_game_begins, your name says all. Kusal Perera is not allowed to play in Chennai.

Posted by   on (April 22, 2013, 8:00 GMT)

What is the mistake of young wicketkeeper Sanju samson.. he played well but now he is warming benches.. not fair..

Posted by the_game_begins on (April 22, 2013, 7:44 GMT)

perera should be in for RR. He is a match winner. CSK should use Morkel as opener as fielding restrictions apply in first 6 overs, & v all know even he mistimes ...... the ball vl go long way ......!!

Posted by CK50 on (April 22, 2013, 7:39 GMT)

Give the chance to Baba and aniruth....Also ask badri to take the rest.

Posted by   on (April 22, 2013, 7:10 GMT)

they should bring in Hilfenhaus for Morkel.... the rest of the line up needs no change as they are doing good with that line up..

Posted by   on (April 22, 2013, 6:52 GMT)

My RR team selection for todays match would be watson,rahane,dravid,hodge,binny,cooper,yagnik,faulkner,chandila,sreesanth,trivedi....I know that only one spinner is included in my team..But I dont think CSK is a very vulnerable side against spin!!!

Posted by Siva_Bala75 on (April 22, 2013, 6:36 GMT)

Faf should play today even if he takes time to settle down. He will be a huge asset as CSK moves on. The following combos can be tried to bring in Faf. (1) Faf, Jakati (or a pacer) in Morkel (or Morris), Vijay out (2) Faf in Hussey (or Morkel) out.

Posted by   on (April 22, 2013, 6:22 GMT)

royals should not play Shaun tait, replace him with kevon cooper and if you want to play hodge in the side plz give him the 1st down position... he is a great talent make the most of it.. do not lose him..

Posted by gundapps on (April 22, 2013, 6:01 GMT)

CSK should bring in Baba Aparajit in place of Badrinath, which gives them an additional bowling option without weakening the batting and Faf duPlessis in place of Albie Morkel (who has done precious little so far).

Posted by satishchandar on (April 22, 2013, 5:56 GMT)

I feel both teams should shut the option of experimenting and should look out to play their 11 which would play in the qualifiers.. My 11s.. CSK : Hussey, Vijay(Vijay shoul pinch hit and continue if he stays not out), Raina, Dhoni, Badri, Jadeja, Bravo, Morris, Morkel/Nannes, Ashwin, Mohit.. Rajasthan Royals : Watson, Rahane, Dravid, Binny, Hodge, Yagnik, Cooper, Faulkner, Chandila, Trivedi, Sreesanth/Chavan..

Posted by Paiudupi on (April 22, 2013, 5:55 GMT)

Luck is the big factor for CSK, especially for MSD, as last two matches CSK won only due to luck favouring them and not with their skills or talents, which they were meant for. I am bit disappointed with CSK's performance in this IPL 2013 and if they continue this, it will be too late for CSK to reach semi finals, because every day is not SUNDAY. Last two matches won only because of Ravindra Jadeja PLUS the luck favoured CSK. Not on merit. So, come on CSK, change your tactics and show what you are. RR captain - Rahul Dravid is the only best cricketer / batsman so far, comparing to other leading well name and famed Sachin Tendulkar & Ricky ponting, who were the leading scorers in International Cricket, but in IPL, so far they failed. So, come on Rahul Dravid, you are the best and I wish you win today.

Posted by Culprit on (April 22, 2013, 5:33 GMT)

Dravid should go with Cooper..

Posted by   on (April 22, 2013, 5:30 GMT)

If its really a slow turner, then it will make sense to strengthen spin department. My team would be, Watson, Rahane, Dravid, Hodge, Binny, Yagnik, Cooper, Hogg, Sreesanth, Chavan and Chandila. or may be another idea is to strengthen the batting as CSK bat till no. 10. In that case, considering Watson will bowl too, i'll have Owais shah in place of Hogg.

Posted by   on (April 22, 2013, 5:22 GMT)

Kusal perera is too good player to stay in bench..he is a individual match winner...RR don't do the same mistake...

Posted by   on (April 22, 2013, 5:07 GMT)

with Watson bowling RR can play an Indian batsman in middle order which looks thin, may be Menaria in place of Sree. Another Inclusion could be of Ankeet Chavan, as ankeet can hold his bat used to play ahead of likes Agarkar in Ranji season because RRs tail is too long and none of the last 4 can hold his bat properly.

Posted by leleraja on (April 22, 2013, 5:06 GMT)

My CSK team - Hussey, Aparajith, Raina, Faf, Dhoni, Jadeja, Bravo, Ashwin, Morris, Imtiaz & Mohit. A complete all-round team!!

Posted by Romenevans on (April 22, 2013, 4:52 GMT)

Dravid should stop experimenting and should play Cooper, Rahul Shukla and Chandila for sure.

Posted by   on (April 22, 2013, 4:52 GMT)

I agree with sboyipl. This is the best XI for CSK today. Also, giive a chance to Raina & Faf to bowl at least 1 over each. It will change the game.

Posted by   on (April 22, 2013, 4:50 GMT)

RR has to polish their tailend batting .......now watson can bowl so no need to carry 4 specialist bowlers ... my line is ... Watson, Dravid , Rahane ,Shah\Hodge , Binny, Sachin, Sanju, Faulkner, Cooper,Chandila, Trivedi ., In chennai RR should use more batsmen , pitch will be on the slower side , so some hardhit batting early must need to boost the score .......

Form suggests CSK. But how long can their last minute assault esp by "SIR" will work? Shortest version also is about playing cricket. MSD get your combination right. the 100% pluck is missing but more than compensated by you rLUCK

Drop Vijay - players from abroad should open the innings for CSK. CSK need a steady and consistent start. Looks like Vijay is not able to provide, as he does not seem to learn from mistakes. Raina is allowed to rest on his past laurels, as is typical with Indian cricket management. Dhoni may be keeping Raina in the team, for his fielding? no idea.

There is only one chance in this game for Royals that is Shane Watson. He is well known about CSK players as he has played plenty of cricket with Indian team and smashed their bowling in many times. So, if Watson stands for a while then he would dominate with bat some time. As Chennai has plenty of quality bowling attack, Dravid would make more dots and singles which will cost Royals today. CSK side there is chance for only one change. I hope Rajpoot can't get a chance easy anymore as Mohit is more potential than him in bowling and fielding. Apart from bowling Rajpoot is having nothing to provide as like Nehra. Anyhow it is going to be comfortable win for CSK. All the best.

If CSK win Tommorrow, CSK will move to top of the table, something that usually does not happen with CSK. Next two matches, Royals and sunrisers are top of half of the table, so it will be interesting to see how CSK plays them. Looking forward to Faf opening tomorrow. Who ever opens, they should be given license to go after in the first 6, like it was given to Ashwin. No point in packing batters up to 10 and not giving openers license to go after, even if they get out. There is no point in playing another Indian batter or Indian all rounder instead of Vijay, unless another Indian bolwer is going to come in the place of Vijay and Albie/Nannes is dropped to get Faf. It is possible CSK might drop Hussey to get Faf in. If Hussey is dropped, they need to get Badrinath in, if they lose wickets soon, which they delayed it in KKR match and one another match. F

Form guide pattern (most recent at left): CSK=WWLWW and RR=LWWLW . The pattern says RR will win .. :-)

I always enjoy watching CSK so am looking forward to the game. But, for some reason, every year the Royals are the most boring team with a lack of exciting players. Even watching KXIP and Pune is more interesting! Hope they sign some better players next year.

CSK's opening batting has been one of their major concerns. Considering that Albie hasn't had to bat a lot nor been consistent with the ball so far, i'd suggest following change to the team.

Replace Albie with Faf. This should boost their boost their open signifacantly. Replace Vijay with Imitaz / Rajdoot or Jakati / Aparjith depending on the surface.. CSK bat too deep, hence they can afford too loose a batsman and reinforce the bowling.

CSK should replace Morkel and Vijay with Faf and maybe Baba. We have too many bits and pieces cricketers. There is no point in batting deep, if the batsmen don't get enough balls to face or the opening stand is poor.

RR must replace yagnik with samson. shah in the place of cooper/faulkner & give a chance s.baby/a.meneria they are good hitters also part time bollers

If RR harbours any hopes of winning, then Hodge and Tait have no better place to be in than the bench! Its high time they get their combination right. Owais Shah, Faulkner and Watson should be the three definite definite overseas picks. Depending on the wicket, the fourth one could be a toss up between Badree, Cooper and Fidel Edwards.

Hoping to see Faf take the field, cheers CSK!!

Royals will need to balance their overseas players to achieve success. Spoilt for choice with Watson, Hodge, Owais Shah, Cooper, Faulkner, Tait, Kushal Parera, Samuel Badree and Brad Hogg. But given the unpredictable nature of the game, it is tough to know who will click when. Watson is a must. Cooper and Faulkner have been among the wickets. Hodge's T20 experience is too valuable to leave on the bench, Owais Shah is in good form. Leaving out Badree and Hogg results in Chandila being the only spinner. I don't know the best combination, but unlocking that combination holds the key to success for the Royals.
