Chennai test awaits Sunrisers bowlers

Match facts

Start time 2000 (1430 GMT)

Big Picture

How did they do it? Sunrisers Hyderabad were at best predicted to be spirited also-rans, but despite their supposed weaknesses, they are near the top end of the table. Their run until now has been as unexpected as Delhi Daredevils' rut and the surprise is visible in Dale Steyn's smirk every time he is interviewed after a tight win. In Chennai, where they will be without their in-form allrounder - Thisara Perera, against a home team that has enough ammunition in their batting to raze their bowling attack, Sunrisers' pluck is going to get seriously tested.

Sunrisers' balance is going to take a hit in the absence of Perera who has been their top run-scorer and has picked up nine wickets. With Steyn, Ishant Sharma and Amit Mishra, they still have bite in their bowling, but it's their batting which continues to be a headache. They left out Kumar Sangakkara in the last two matches to allow Quinton de Kock time to settle in preparation for this match, but that move has had zero results. With Perera missing, they are in serious need of some good news on the batting front. One came yesterday - Shikhar Dhawan took part in training on Tuesday evening and could feature in Chennai.

Chennai Super Kings have no such issues. After a scratchy start to the tournament, they have had three wins a row. Their bowling strangled the opposition in two of those games and their batting rose to the occasion in the third. Suresh Raina, who had a quiet start to the tournament, also showed signs of returning to form with a half-century in the last match. Faf du Plessis is also available for selection. No question then who starts this match as a favourite. However, Sunrisers can take encouragement from the fact that Pune Warriors sneaked out a win in Chennai too.

Players to watch

While Amit Mishra has been hogging the limelight, Sunrisers' other legspinner Karan Sharma has quietly cemented his place in the side. In the three matches he has played, he has picked up four wickets and has been miserly with an economy of 5.62. It is because of support acts like Karan that Sunrisers haven't had any loose ends in their bowling. In the absence of Perera, Karan would be expected to step up against Super Kings' big-hitting left-handers.

Michael Hussey is in the middle of a productive run and his last five innings read - 88, 40 65*, 6, 86*. The solidity he has provided at the top of the order has helped in laying the platform for the power hitters, who could be susceptible in situations that need them to graft. If he can keep Steyn and Co at bay early, a big chunk of Super Kings' job would be considered done.

Stats and trivia

  • Super Kings have scored less than 130 just once this season. Sunrisers, on the other hand, have crossed 130 two times in seven attempts.
  • Only four Sunrisers batsmen have a strike-rate of more than 100 this season - Mishra, Perera, Steyn and Ashish Reddy.

Quotes

"The batsman is already struggling against Steyn and then he has to face a ball delivered by Ishant from eight feet high."

Only alternative to give CSK a run for money is to put up a decent total and wait for the strong SRH bowling lineup to do the rest. Good news is Shikar DHawan returns to team. Absence of Perera creates Darren Sammy an automatic choice. He is the guy SRH has to watch out in forthcoming matches for his batting and bowling abilities. Considering good outing at recently concluded Ram Slam t20 challenge young and promising Quitnton De Kock could be included and his last two outings can be best ignored, or else, the foreigner's slot will go to C Lynn or should they prefer an extra spinner, then to N McCullum, as he can also bat. In the absence of Sanga and Perera and to keep the momentum going, the batting lineup has to be this: 1.Shikar dhawan,2.Quinton de kock (wk), 3. Hanuma Vihari 4.White (c)5.Biplab samatray 6.Darren Sammy 7.AshishReddy 8.Karn Sharma 9.Amit Mishra 10. Dale Styen 11. Ishant Sharma

Being coached by the great Waqar Younis will stand bowlers like Ishant and Amit Shamra in good stead when they go to South Africa later. Really appreciate this aspect of the IPL. Over at Pune Warriors, another bowling great Allan Donald is working with the impressive young medium-pacer Bhuvanesh Kumar. The only sad waste is at Delhi Daredevils where they players are getting inspiration from the legendary Sir Viv Richards: pity that none of DD's players is good enough for India selection! (From an Indian fan in the US.)

Perera is in great form with bat and ball. His absence can make big different to him rather the team. When you are in great form you should not sit in the bench at least for single match. It will destroy your momentum. I have seen plenty of examples in the past. Resting 1,2 matches used to make things happening in opposite way.

IPL is at half way mark. It is time to sort out men from Boys! SRH thrived in low scoring matches but struggled when the total went beyond 150. This match certainly is a challenge for SRH bowlers to keep the total within their reach to win the match. Steyn, Ishant Sharma, Mishra, Karan Sharma & Sammy will have to pull out their best skills to do so. Unless they keep CSK <150, SRH has little chance of winning. CSK are in full cry now with their top seven batsmen in form. Fortunately their bowling is still not quite there. So SRH has room to get their batting going. Dhawan has to come out big along with White, Lynn or De Kock, + local talent Samantray, Vihari, P. Patel, A.Reddy & Mishra. SRH played as a "Team" so far. Hence the absence of Perera & Sanga will also upset their team chemistry! How well the team chemistry holds is also a challenge. CSK is a team of individuals with strong starter in Hussey & Vijay + finishers in Dhoni, Jadeja & Bravo. SRH win if their bowlers show up.

  • on April 25, 2013, 13:04 GMT

Thisara perera is sunrisers main player and for non cricketing reasons he has to sit out leaving a huge void in the big hitting department of the team. Shikhar dhawan could provide stability at the top but if he can adjust straight after an injury layoff is to be seen. Considering CSK's big hitting left handers including sir ji , I think Mishra n Sharma are going to have less impact. The only X factor and positive for SRH could be steyn and Ishant bowling in tandem. Batting wise I don't see them scoring more than 140 chasing or batting first.

Well, Its gonna be an interesting contest. SRH bowlers vs CSK batsmen. The danger man is Hussey. He is in a terrific form. Anyway I hope Dhawan n co. won't find it too hard to deal with CSK bowling attack. Btw watch out for Asswin. Its just not coz of his bowling, but he has a tendency to mankad batsmen. lol And I hope that Perera's replacement would justify his inclusion. G'luck SRH !!!

Chennai very lucky this season and last season too, the hussey run-out decision,RP No-ball,and last season when they were completely out of the tournament when Deccan chargers gave it all and brought them back in. Their bowling is also pathetic because its nothing but bits and pieces players playing . As for their batting its nothing but hussey and dhoni. If you be sloppy like KKR and RR (giving unnecessary run outs, poor shots at the time, poor fielding) you lose. but if be sprited and tight like MI and PWI you win.

    Chennai Super Kings M Hussey, M Vijay, S Raina, S Badrinath, M S Dhoni (C & WK), D Bravo, R Jadeja, A Morkel, C Morris, R Ashwin & S Jakati A Morkel & S Jakati (IN) & J Holder & M Sharma (OUT)

The reason for bringing in A Morkel & S Jakati is to have a stronger bowling attack than the previous match against the royals. And The players left out also have not been very consistent for 'The Lions'.

    SUNRISERS HYDERABAD Akshath Reddy,P Patel, H Vihari, J P Duminy, C White (C),D Sammy, D Steyn, I Sharma, A Mishra, K Sharma & Ashish Reddy P Patel, J P Duminy & D Sammy (IN) & T Perera, Q De Kock & B Samantray (OUT)

Its quite unfortunate that SRH have to leave out T Perera, who has been in outstanding form this season. Q De Kock has been out of form and has no idea about playing in Indian Conditions. So now we have J P Duminy, who has performed quite well for their previous franchisee and of course D Sammy who has been itching to play for a long time. Now, its up to them to step up.

    Dear Mr. Hussey,

I have written before that you are hurting CSK and you should be dropped. But you showed what you are capable of in the last CSK game.

After that game, you said that the high target allowed you to play without any pressure. So, please play every game as if the target is 200.

Vijay is poorly out of form and CSK needs at least one opener to fire away. You are known to play to the situation. The situation demands that you take Vijay's role.

This means that you should hit over the in-field in the first six overs. This means that CSK strike rate should be above eight and close to nine in the first 10 overs.

    Thank you.

some one is saying Sammy to captain Sunrises. In Westindies team itself he is a liability. Then how can he captain Sunrises team. He is the wiining world cup T20 captain but his contribution as captain and player is very less. Already problem facing Sunrises cannot make him captain and further go down.

During the last IPL,Sanga has experimented the spin bowling with first over and choice was Ankit Sharma who picked wickets of Murli Vijay & Y pathan.

Why sanga not experimenting the same and give Ankit a chance to repeat what he did in last IPL.

Replace Quinton with Duminy. It will make the Sunrisers middle order stable in critical times.

  • on April 25, 2013, 11:12 GMT

jp dumminy is not avalable for this season. my 11 will be 1,2,3 -parthiv,akshath reddy, vihari, samntray any 3from this 4.

for this single match dhawan should bat at 3. white at 4. chriss lynn at 5 (give him a chance he scored amazingly in bigbash leage. in this match we are made to make 2forcebale changes so lets make another change and try to fie the suad. as we need 4 wins out of 9 its would be nice time to make some experiments) ashish reddy at 7 theron at 8 amit at 9 steyn at 10 ishanth at11. the reason why i choose theron is csk batting line up. he is good death bowler nd every one knows his ability in death overs. so i think for 4th over seas spottheron will be absolute suit.

    1.parthiv 2.akshath 3.dhawan 4.white 5.lynn 6.vihari/samantry 7.ashis reddy 8.theron 9.amit mishra 10.steyn 11.ishanth sharma

Everyone talks about SRH scrapping through and all. But wait, the SRH's bowling will test the CSK lineup. If they want to be champions, the CSK batting has to respond to SRH's very strong bowling department. If SRH can restrict CSK to 130-140, with Shikar Dhawan's inclusion, SRH have enough in their batting to chase down such a target. Waiting to see SRH do what PWI did to CSK earlier.

@ Tal_Botvinnik --- yeah seriously .. by doing all this you can get CSK all out by 190+ .. and by sending Mishra and Dhawan chase this score in next two matches.

  • MAYURESHmagic on April 25, 2013, 10:08 GMT

Dhawan, Patel, Duminy, White, Parera, Steyn, Sharma, Mishra are main course

Great to see Sunrisers perform the way they have been throughout the tournament. It is crunch time now and they are facing a team who i believe know how to handle pressure the best. Play fair and play well. SRH is one team who are playing as a unit and it is great to see that. The match would be yours SRH.

My team for this evening would be: Parthiv Patel, Shikhar Dhawan,J.P. Duminy(in case he is fit)/ Quinton Decock , Hanuman Vihari , Cameroon White , Darren Sammy , Ashish Reddy , Amit Mishra , Dale Styen , Karan Sharma , Ishant Sharma.

Good luck SRH and CSK will have the first defeat on there home turf tonight:-)

  • srdoc on April 25, 2013, 9:42 GMT

@Gagzilla good pick, same as mine except why do u want to play quinton de cock in the middle, as he was always a opening batsman in SA and he should be playing swing well as an opener

  • Manikkaraj on April 25, 2013, 9:40 GMT

Whatever the bowling you have.. If all three (steyn, Ishant and Mishra) bowled well also you have 8 overs bowled by other bowlers.. That is enough for chennai to make a big total...

Be careful steyn.. you can be a best bowler still now... but you are going to face MSD today..

  • ladycricfan on April 25, 2013, 9:39 GMT

Political situation is much calmer now in Srilanka. So, either the SL players will be allowed to play play-offs in chennai, or if SL players are still not allowed, the organizers will move the play-offs to neutral venues. So there is no danger of CSK gaining unfair advantage. As for the league matches, CSK lost two home matches and won one against RCB thanks to no ball. 4 th foreigner Rampaul has been a regular for RCB ever since and their bowling looks stronger with him. In today's match , Perera's replacement might contribute even better than Perera has been doing, you never know. They are all good players. Good luck SRH. Put up a good show and don't blame politics when you ( surely going to) lose. Anyway CSK has nothing to do with the politics.

  • Tal_Botvinnik on April 25, 2013, 9:35 GMT

WHat SRH need to do to win.

Get Hussey and Raina Out (Both are in-form) ,Vijay will automatically get out. Dhoni will automatically get out (in the penultimate over) as he has done in all the matches so far. Bowl yorkers to Bravo, Jadeja they won't connect with it with their wild slogs. KEEP BADRINATH as long as possible. Ashwin will run himself or probably (wish its dhoni or hussey) some else out. Get a spinner(Mishy) on for Morris.

Batting:: Send A Mishra (in-form,better than ashwin ,right hander) to open the innings with Dhawan to give the CSK a taste of their own medicine.

  • Haleos on April 25, 2013, 9:33 GMT

Should be a cake walk for Chennai. They should go after Steyn and not let him settle. Vijayi is a big clogg in their top order. Hope they get someone better. Super overrated player. @ SamAsh07 - yeh sure. After hussey there is no one who can hold their bat in CSK? Raina, Dhoni and Sir J can score anything in any number of balls.

  • sweetspot on April 25, 2013, 9:29 GMT

@CricManGame - CSK cannot play Akila Dhananjaya or Kulasekara for ANY of their home games! Think about that disadvantage! Other teams are playing only one game each in Chennai. Just because CSK are strong we don't notice it, but they're handicapped more than the others.

  • on April 25, 2013, 9:25 GMT

srh will rock in chennai defeat with by huge margin srh player mishra, styen, dhawan, swammy will rock against csk

  • ramz30380 on April 25, 2013, 9:20 GMT

CSK are clear favorites no matter where they play SRH.

@ Velangini Papi Reddy Thumma SRH has struggled on their away games. They could not beat the competent teams and the Super Over saved them the blushes against RCB. They are def punching above their weight and no doubt its admirable. But this may not go on for long as they dont have a formidable batting line up.

I am excited about Dhawan playing but it is not fair on expecting him to make a turn around for the dismal fortunes of their batting. Perera will be missed but again he alone is not the reason for the team's good performance.

Plz dont blame the local politics for team's losing to CSK. There were no restrictions in the two years that CSK won the championship. CSK is a good team if not the best in the competition and they can beat any team anywhere.

For the sake of IPL and fairness I still hope that either the political situation becomes better in TN so that all can play or the qualifiers are shifted to a neutral venue.

  • on April 25, 2013, 9:12 GMT

Its SUN TV vs INDIA CEMENTS ... literally both are Chennai based.... But I believe 'Sun' will rise over Chepauk today night! Good Luck SunRisers Hyderabad.

  • keyancools on April 25, 2013, 8:35 GMT

Darren Sammy is equally good as Perera....I think it won't be much unfair for SRH... but I get the feeling that people may blame politics if CSK wins tonight.

  • VK on April 25, 2013, 8:21 GMT

Whilst I don't want to get into the politics of why there's a ban, I don't like the implementation.

It seems this rule favours CSK more often than not (Kulasakera is not a shoo in into their team at this point anyway, whilst as we can see with SRH the whole balance of opposition sides can get thrown into disarray).

Practically, I realise you can't make them play all their games away, but the worst part is that Chennai gets to host two of the knockout games. Surely you move said games, if this ban absolutely has to happen, else the knockout rounds become a joke - imagine if Mumbai lose in the last over because Malinga isn't bowling it, or SRH go down by two runs with no Perera at the crease? In a one -off game against CSK this is one thing, but in the knock-out rounds it shouldn't be allowed to happen, not when there's an obvious solution.

  • on April 25, 2013, 8:21 GMT

SRH is probably the best team in IPL 2013. They are in the top four not because of any 'Storms' or 'Mysteries' or 'Legends', if you know what I mean. They are playing as a team, way better than the rest. They know their strengths and weaknesses pretty well and are taking full advantage of the situations. In their playing XI, everybody contributes in some way or the other. The availability of Dhawan is only going to make SRH harde rto beat. The way I see it, it's CSK, who would be feeling the heat and not the other way. It's the real test for CSK's batsmen against the fiery Steyn & Co.,

My SRH XI: De Kock, Dhawan, Akshath Reddy, Vihari, White, Ashish Reddy, Sammy, Mishra, Karan, Steyn & Ishanth.

    All the best, SRH!!!

  • Gagzilla on April 25, 2013, 8:17 GMT

Thank#god # Dhawn is back So i have no fear today :) :) :-) For me the playing 11 should be 1)Dhawan 2)C.white 3)H.vihari 4)kock 5)samantry6)Sammy 7)A.reddy 8)Mishra 9)k.sharma/A.Rajan 1o)styne 11)sharma Kock should play in Midde order because...The got bolwed due to the new ball swing.... And i put Sharma or Rajan depending on the pitch.. If its a fast bowlers pitch we should go with Rajan..... But i dont think Csk are crazy to make a Green pith specially when the opponent got some world class fast bowlers.... Can Any one tell me What has happen to Last year Charger's player SUNNY SOHAL? last year Dhawan n he open and it was a great opening pair.... Why he is not in the squad?

  • sweetspot on April 25, 2013, 7:52 GMT

@srcric - I think CSK is rather comfortable on the road, rather than on their own ground. Remember what MSD said about the pitch? They don't trust it yet, after it was relaid last season. CSK plays quite well anywhere really, and are hardly dependent on conditions to help their style of play, because they have all bases covered. SRH will be sadly off balance because they have to leave Perera out, but who knows? A new combination might be a blessing in disguise and they may end up throwing CSK a surprise or two!?

  • Kolaa.srifan on April 25, 2013, 7:51 GMT

@senthilkumar: Having players with Orange Cap and Purple Cap! + winning the matches will say consistancy of team and the players. Exactly what we see in RCB

  • Kolaa.srifan on April 25, 2013, 7:42 GMT

As most of you mentioned this is the start of the real test of SRH. Yes they beat 4 bottom tablers, and that is what they want. Now they only 4 wins to reach playoff. They have 9 matches to do so..

  • Aswath03021990 on April 25, 2013, 7:28 GMT

Clash between the owners from the same state,Hope CSK finishes high for the first round with 6 wins.Faf and dawan are the exciting players back!!!..No idea about Ben hify yet.

    CSK: Hussey,Faf,raina,badri,dhoni,jaddu,bravo,morris,ashwin,mohit,(?)ben/holder/laughlin

    SRH: Dawan,DeCock,vihari,white,samantray,sammy,ashish reddy,karan,mishra,steyn,sharma

  • sreehk on April 25, 2013, 7:26 GMT

SRH has put some fancy starry teams to shame so far. They should play Fearless Cricket from here on, esp batting, yet be happy with underdog tag which has worked in their favor. Having said that they need to put up scores of 160 consistently to support their bowling. Only chance to beat Chennai is to take 10 wickets. SRH XI for CSK match: 1.Dhawan 2.Akshat 3.White 4.Vihari 5.Sammy 6.Macullum 7.Samantray 8.Mishra 9.Karan 10.Steyn 11.Ishant. With this team they will have 6 genuine bowlers and 9 batting options.

  • Slesh on April 25, 2013, 7:16 GMT

its better if SRH give a chance to Nathan McCullum. de Kock didnt really perform well.seems like he cant handle the pressure being in front of a large crowd. now the business end is going to start in the tournament.so not much of experiments here after.Sanga must play in the in next game against RR.for todays game this should be the 11.

    1.Dhawan 2.Patel 3.Vihari 4.White 5.Samantray 6.McCullum 7.Sammy 8.K Sharma 9.Mishra 10.Steyn 11.Ishant

CSK have a big batting line up.wont be easy.SRH need to score 170+ in order to defend. or else shouldn't give more than 150 if they bowl first. Go Go SRH!!

  • on April 25, 2013, 6:57 GMT

Here we go, probably the first major victim of politics could be unveiled today. Perea had such an astonishing run so far in the tournament and he is sitting out while playing against probably the strongest team in IPL. To SRH its equivalent to Jadeja + Ashwin sitting out. The addition of Dhawan is reason to smile in this absurd situation. Even if they lose this they shouldn't worry too much about the biased result and should look forward to other games.

    GO SRH GO!!

  • ladycricfan on April 25, 2013, 6:50 GMT

Perera is a good allrounder, so are Sammy and McCullum. So choose one of them in place of Perera and SRH will not be weakened. With the inclusion of Dhawan SRH looks strong in all departments. With injuries to certain players, CSK is not yet settled with the combination. Should play Steyn safe and go after other bowlers. Lions will devour eagles for sure.

  • srcric on April 25, 2013, 6:47 GMT

CSK is the luckiest team this year's IPL as all the decisions and rules went on their way.but they are not the best team.they will feel that when they play away from home.good luck SRH.

  • on April 25, 2013, 6:35 GMT

My SRH Squad for todays match: Shikhar Dhawan, Parthiv Patel, Cameron White, Hanuma Vihari, Darren Sammy, Nathan McCullum, Ashish Reddy, Amit Mishra, Ishant Sharma, Karan Sharma, Dale Steyn .... This squad brings right balance to the team as you can see we have depth in both batting and bowling departments which is required when you are playing a side like Chennai Super Kings

  • Samychennai on April 25, 2013, 6:26 GMT

That is good sign that SRH fans are in real spirit and hope. Wish you guys. Though SRH is new team and without multiple stars, they have achieved so far. I really appreciate that and I wish they should be in play off but excuse me for your defeat today. I wish you to win on coming matches. Actually we want to drop Vijay because of his form but I want to give him the final chance today to get practice Stayn's ball which is important for oncoming series at SA. Otherwise everything is alright for CSK. Two more points in hand already and placed in the top. Go CSK Go.

  • Avi56 on April 25, 2013, 6:12 GMT

@guru1438.you are right about the fact that the real test for SRH is in the coming days...out of 5 victories 4 are from teams bottom of the table...and 2 losses were complete thrashing by by RCB and KKR...Now is the actual test becos in the next week they are going to face CSK,MI,RR,KKR. Wont say deadly teams for KKR and MI but teams who can be dangerous on a given day..Overall its the bowlers who have done everything to SRH and none of the batsmen have got t20 caliber. Dhawan coming back is a good sign to stabilize the opening partnership..And probably Perera being dropped is a blessing in disguise. Sammy will replace perera and might be prove his place in the team over DeQuock if he plays well..and this might increase the potential of the strong bowling line up.However, the same cannont be said about the pitch in Chennai which is more suited for spinners. All the best and let the best team win

  • RAJESRH on April 25, 2013, 5:56 GMT

MY TEAM against CSK... " **** DHAWAN is available now. 1.Dhawan , 2.Parthiv(Wk), 3.Vihari, 4.White(C), 5.Samantray, 6.Mc Cullum, 7.Darren Sammy, 8.Karan Sharma, 9.Amit Mishra, 10.Steyn, 11.Ishant. ..

    * Karan proved himself a good Bowler. * 4 batsmen, 4 All-rounder & 3 Bowlers. (Of-course Mishra is also an all-rounder.) * 9 Batting options+ 7 (3 spin + 4 fast) Bowling options. * White + Samantray + Mc Cullum + Sammy = 4 good (Dangerous) Middle Order. *** 8 International experienced (CAP) players.

** if SRH bat first they need to score at least 150+. ** 45+ for 1 in first 6 overs. ** 65+ for 2/3 in next 10 overs. ** 40+ in last 4 overs.

it is absolute unfair for sunrisers to drop perera and sanga when the team is in full form .i really fear this match could be the turning point for sunrisers from where the tides may reverse.but i thinkeven for this game chennai should be asked to drop two key players so that a levelplaying field can be created because it was obvious that the kind of form perera is in with bat and ball he would have singlehandedly with help of sanga easily defeated csk but now it will not be the case.cricinfoplz publish.

Whoever win this match will comfortably sit in playoffs. 60% to CSK and 40% to SRH (-ve: Perara Out, +ve: Dhawan In). CSK should drop M.Vijay and bring Duplessis (SRH is storng bowling unit, its better to add batting strength)!

    My team for today 1) Duplessis 2) Hussey 3) Raina 4) Badrinath 5) Jadeja 6) Dhoni 7) Bravo 8) Morris 9) Ashwin 10) MSharma 11) Aprajith/Rajpoot.

CSK should be forced to rest at least one regular overseas player against SRH.

It is unfair for SRH who are forced to rest Perera and Sanga (especially Perera) when CSK is given option to select any player in their squad.

  • Tal_Botvinnik on April 25, 2013, 4:44 GMT

    My XI: S Dhawan, A Reddy, H VIhari, C White, JP Duminy, N McClum/D Sammy,P Patel, B Samantray, A Mishra, D Steyn, I Sharma.

There you go, Massive depth in batting with a good partner for Dhawan. Patel is just a wicket keeper. Bowling options would be Nathan,Miishy,Steyn,Sharma,Biplap,JP and Dhawan. In the next match i would drop C white for Sanga, Mac and Sam for Thissara. THe Best over seas performer gets to stay barring steyn.Would love to play C Lynn then the xi would be changed as

S Dhawan, H Vihari, C Lynn, Cam White, JP Duminy, P Patel, K Sharma, S Rana, A Mishy, Steyn, Ishant.

  • on April 25, 2013, 4:09 GMT

I believe Chennai have the slight edge with their depth in batting, since Sunrisers have yet to post a significant total. Dhoni and co should definitely bowl first if they can win the toss, in my opinion.

  • on April 25, 2013, 3:47 GMT

@Htc-Android. briging duminy instead of lynn is a good idea.....bt hw can we call de cock as proper batsmen at this movement......2 matches 2 faligurs.....this is t20......i think macculum is the most suitable option at this movement....macculum mishra combination can esily build pressure on csk........dont forget dhawn is going to play 2day.......so no need worry about srh batting......even 120 is enough to defend with thire line up....if srh play macculum ,sammy, duminy and steyn as ther overseas palyers they are going to win to.....just wait and see.......

  • Swingit on April 25, 2013, 3:38 GMT

Why no mention of Sammy? Is he still unavailable due to the birth of his child? If Sunrisers get that Windies X-factor they will be really unbeatable! All other teams that do well (even if in one area) have it helping them (Gayle. Pollard, Narine,Cooper, Bravo, Smith),and Sunrisers have been successful without it imagine if they get that added boost! Get Sammy in especially after how much they paid for him!

  • Cricfan-Suresh on April 25, 2013, 3:19 GMT

Its the batting they need to look after here. It would say they should stick to De kock and may be replace this cameraman white with duminy.

Chennai should drop Vijay and play Faf and Hussey as Openers. Bravo and Morris would be the other two overseas players. Bring in Jakati as well because Jadeja is vulnerable once he is in the firing line. So it reads - Faf, Huss, Raina, Badri, Dhoni, Jadeja, Bravo, Morris, Ashwin, Jakati/Aparjith, Mohit Sharma

  • kalyanbk on April 24, 2013, 21:15 GMT

I think if Vijay can make a statement against Dale Steyn, it will stand India good for their tour to South Africa.

  • on April 24, 2013, 20:57 GMT

Good test for SRH, so far theyve faced weaker sides & won(PWI,DD, KXIP) while struggling vs rcb(1-1, 1st super over & 2nd got beaten by kohli) & kkr. I think best line up if dhawan is healthy enough play would be. 1.Dhawan 2.De Kock 3.Akshath 4. White 5.Vihari/Biplap 6.Parthiv/Ashish 7.Sammy 8.Steyn 9.Mishra 10.Ishanth 11.K.Sharma/Rajan. If De Kock isnt picked them give a chance to chris lynn or nathan mccullum. Hoping they bowl first so theres a chance of restricting them to a low total rather than letting them chase because they have big hitters & can finish games like vs RCB & RR recently. Really hoping the batting puts up a decent fight, glad dhawan is back. He cant win us all the games but should perform much better than most of the indian batsmen on the team. Saves us Y2Dhawan!!

  • kc69 on April 24, 2013, 20:56 GMT

I seriousl dont understand whats wrong with SRH that they want to play an inexperienced De Kock and Sammy.Chennai pitch is a turner and will stay low for team that bats second. Its better to take Nathan McCullum and Chris Lynn in playing 11 along with Steyn and White(hope he fires).Rest all should be the same side(Dhawan's inclusion will be a big morale booster).

  • on April 24, 2013, 20:48 GMT

It will be great if CSK can expose the weakness of SRH. CSK has a mighty batting lineup which will be tested. Hopefully CSK will rip the SRH bowling attack.

    Go CSK go...!!

  • GrindAR on April 24, 2013, 20:48 GMT

Waqar has been phenomenal so far. Keeping the unit together spirited. As the say goes, Pak can defend any low total successfully. SRH is doing the same so far and being the defiant team with better consistency of defending their total. With S Dhawan, they can strike one of the worries from their list. If he is in form, then it will be (fair enough to call it) Dhawan vs Mr.Cricket contest. If Dhawan meets 70% of Mr.Cricket, that is like 100% given the team's bowling and fielding arsenals. On contrary, CSK will find their weak points exposed regardless of whether they win or loose.

  • Baseball-Sucks on April 24, 2013, 20:25 GMT

There is only one hope for SRH in the absence of Perera. That's Dhawan. As he is coming outta injury. You will neverknow. If Dhawan fires, there will be a chance. Otherwise, sorry.com. You can never depend on White or De Kock. Sammy may make an impact but not as much as Perera would. So generally, It all depends on the performance of Dhawan. Sanga sat out for 2 matches so De Kock could get some match experience. I hope De Kock would do something at least to show his respect for Sanga.

  • ladycricfan on April 24, 2013, 20:07 GMT

Hope Albie is fit. Holder Bowled well in the last match. But with SRH bowling attack we need to strengthen the batting with Albie. CSK fans are waiting for Vijay's contribution. Hope he comes good. SRH is 3rd in the points table and is high on confidence. Looking forward to a good match.

Dhawan is back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a news for SRH,One batsman can make a huge difference to a side and hope Dhawan does that for SRH. However what he does is makes the batting lineup look balanced and capable of making big scores.

With Dhawan back Parthiv should be included in XI as he was once part of CSK and should have the idea of conditions in chennai and also SRH cant neglect experience of parthiv considering the inexperienced batsmen in the side.

Sammy for sure replaces Perera and match being in Chennai Decock is most likely to get another opportunity, white and steyn are obvious choices.

SRH playing XI with batting Order: 1)Akshath,2)Dhawan,3)Dekock,4)White,5)Parthiv,6)Vihari,7)Sammy,8)Ashish,9)Mishra,10)Steyn,11)Ishant

Batting looks strong enough to post a good score, SRH doesnt really need Ashish in the team as mishra at 8 makes the batting order long they can replace Ashish with Tyagi or VP singh to strengthen the bowling attack against CSK's batting.

It is going to be a real test for the Sunrisers... especially their batting will be tested big time.. If they can pull off a victory here, then every team has to watch out for them..they will be a team to beat. Having said that, the hidden bottom line here is that it is going to be a real test for the Chennai batsmen as well. They will be facing a real full fledged quality bowling attack. Even if Perera is missing, Sammy will be an attacking bowler in the opening overs and can slog pretty well in the end. The fact that Sunrisers have defended low scores in many occasions is no fluke at all... It is a result of quality bowling. I guess it would be an interesting and a close game nevertheless.. Dhawan's arrival is a key factor to solve Sunrisers opening woes and White have play a major role in this game if Sunrisers have to win this match.

My prediction for the Sunrisers final XI is: Dhawan, DeKock, Vihari, White, Samantray, AA Reddy, Sammy, Mishra, Karan Sharma, Steyn, Ishant.

  • on April 24, 2013, 18:57 GMT

My XI for tomorrow would be - Dhawan, De Kock, Vihari, White, Samantray, Sammy, Ashish Reddy, Amit mishra, Karan Sharma, Styen, Ishant.

Depending on form, Perrera should replace De Kock/White/Sammy from next match onwards.

i think for this match in place of perera srh must include theron. considering the csk batting line up he will be an awesome selection. he is a master piece at death overs. every one knows his ability in death overs. as dhawan is back it would be nice to bring theron for this one match nd dhawan play at 4for this single match. my 11 will be 1.parthiv 2.akshath reddy 3.vihari 4.dhawan 5.white 6.samntray 7.ashish reddy 8.amit mishra 9.theron 10.steyn 11.ishanth sharma.
