Delhi, Pune look for turnaround

Match facts

Start time 2000 IST (1430 GMT)

Big Picture

With the tournament only half complete, the match between Delhi Daredevils and Pune Warriors is not quite the battle of the wooden spoons. But both teams will be looking to haul their sputtering campaigns back on track after poor shows in their last respective games.

Daredevils squandered any confidence gained from beating Mumbai Indians by losing to Kings XI Punjab. It was a showing consistent with their other six losses in the tournament so far, making the win seem an aberration. The team is still hopeful but their poor run has put them in a place where they have to win each remaining match.

Daredevils will be hoping there will be some serendipity for them in Raipur, which hosts its first IPL match. The stadium had hosted one stage of the BCCI's Corporate Trophy earlier in the year, and the batsmen did well on the surface.

For Warriors, the game will be an indicator of whether their players have recovered from the mauling they received from Chris Gayle in their last match. Coach Allan Donald spoke about the mental scarring, but the team has had a few days off to rest and pick up the pieces. Their mix-and-match captaincy formula has hurt them but against Daredevils, their bowling will have a chance to make an impact early on.

Players to watch

Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the only bowler spared from the hammering that Chris Gayle meted out. The youngster has impressed throughout the tournament, picking up early wickets, with his swing bowling. He has plenty of skill to trouble Daredevils' fragile top order.

Mahela Jayawardene has always led from the front and his stint as captain with the Daredevils is no different. He's taken the flak for some under-par performances and his own batting has been poor. Daredevils need an inspirational performance from him to improve their sinking chances.

Pune has a good team, what they lack is a good support staff & a good coach.A good head at the top, is what they needed.

    PWI XI should be

Finch Samuels Uttappa Yuvraj Marsh Mathews Sharma Rasool B.Kumar Dinda

Sehwag Chand Warner Mahela Russell Irfan Morkel Nadeem Rao Yadav

I can't wait for this match.... A team that is constantly losing, against a team who constantly finds a way to lose, this is going to be a good game, Pune Warriors to win.

  • Isuru on April 28, 2013, 8:29 GMT

Ajantha Mendis should play every match for PWI.

  • Heshan on April 28, 2013, 4:52 GMT

i did support for both tbe PWI n DD but as the tournament goes on i started to dislike them.anyway DD-

    1.Mahela 2.Warner 3.Viru 4.Chand 5.J Mendis 6.Ojha 7.Pathan 8.Morkel 9.Nadeem 10.Umesh 11.Nehra

Warner should open as he is not a middle order material.Shewag can come at three simply becoz he has the experience batting at no 3.J Mendis should play becoz he brings that middle order strength which DD lacking atm.he will be useful to bowl 3 overs in between over no 7 to 12. this line up may not have a big depth in batting but certainly a balanced 4 simply must fire.

    1.Uttappa 2.Finch 3.Mathews 4.Yuvraj 5.Smith 6.Nayar 7.Gomez 8.Kumar 9.R.Sharma 10.Dinda 11.Mendis

no1-Mathews should definitely play in the XI simply becoz he is much better than Wright.Mathews hasn't performed yet its coz he didn't bat up the order. except WK everyone can bowl in this team.UV+Mathews=6 overs. Sharma+Kumar=8 overs. Mendis+Dinda=6 overs.

Good Luck For both the teams!!

if DD want to win next remaining matches pls sit out Nehra

DD's performance clearly reflects poor team selection and management.

I cant understand Warner playing in the middle order. He is a pure opening material and asking him to do a KP is just expecting too much. Watching him play over the years one can easily understand his game, he attacks in powerplay and then slows down(this means scoring run a ball) in the middle and again slogs at the death. They should go for proper middle order batsman if they want Mahela to open.

Unmukt is an impact player and Juneja is not. Play venugopal if you want a guy to rotate the strike in the middle. I would like to see mahela play anchor and rest of line up Play around him, replace Juneja with Unmukt

Playing XI with batting order should be: 1)Viru,2)Warner,3)Unmukt,4)Mahela,5)N.Ojha,6)Merwe,7)Pathan,8)Morkel,9)Nadeem,10)Umesh,11)Nehra

This attack looks balanced, batting has fire power at death and in Middle and bowling attack has pace and spin
