Start time 2000 (1630 GMT)

Big Picture

Beware the team with nothing to lose, even if their own player is ripping into the team management for having made changes to the winning combination. Pune Warriors are out of the race for playoffs. They have been easier to beat than others, but you can bet teams will be approaching a match with them with slight trepidation too. For a team like Rajasthan Royals, who are in with a chance to make it to the playoffs, and who have provided Warriors' one of their rare wins this season, this becomes a crucial game. They need to win three out of their remaining six to reach nine wins, which all but assure their progression.

This is one of Royals' last three home games, and they haven't lost one in Jaipur this year yet. They will be wary of individual brilliance, which the visiting side is well capable of, despite the results' stating otherwise. Yuvraj Singh will be miffed at having been left out of the India team for the Champions Trophy, and might have a point to prove. Nobody wants to be at the receiving end of his ire.

Form guide

Rajasthan Royals LWWLL
Pune Warriors LLLLLL

Watch out for...

Like Yuvraj, Ajinkya Rahane must be smarting too. That he hasn't got many chances playing for India is well documented, but now even the bench has been pulled from under him. He is not part of the India squad for the Champions Trophy, and his bat might have a thing or two to say about it.

Angelo Mathews' first taste of captaincy in a big tournament hasn't been great. He has presided over losses, he has been dropped, and he has taken just one wicket and scored 84 runs, but before he leaves to lead Sri Lanka in the Champions Trophy, he will hope to bring about a turnaround.

Stats and trivia

  • Robin Uthappa, Pune Warriors' wicketkeeper, has only five dismissals to his name in 11 matches. It gives you an impression of how penetrative their bowling has been.
  • The three worst bowling analysis for an innings this year belong to Warriors bowlers. Ashok Dinda features twice, and Mitchell Marsh once, when he bowled just three overs for 56. His captain saved him the record for worst analysis by not bowling him out.

Quotes

"We've never stuck to a winning combination. It was pretty disappointing for me, as a player. When we beat a strong team at their home ground [Chennai Super Kings], we came back and changed the combination, and I think that kind of shook things up for us a little bit."
Pune Warriors' wicketkeeper-batsman Robin Uthappa

"There is something about Sanju Samson that is reminiscent of the young Sachin Tendulkar. Fabulously talented, wide-eyed, honest, #thefuture"
Former Glamorgan left-arm quick, and now a commentator, Alan Wilkins, on Twitter

I think pune should have taken Rasool. He is a good player. They wasted a slot by selecting Manish Pandey & Suman. If one would have followed Domestic matches Manish Pandey was in bad form and one wouldn't have selected him.

Pune Warriors are an inconsistent team which lacks leadership + having a settled set of players. Even the local players are not settled & players like Yuvraj does not find a regular spot. Captain Mathews is so poor that he cannot justify his spot in the XI. It is a strong team but needs to play as a "Team".So the team owners & management must have this discord sorted out. On the other hand RR is a happy team with a good captain in Dravid. RR's only problem is Dravid puts himself down in the batting order. He needs to lead the team from front. Encouraging youngsters is good but not at the risk of jeopardizing the Team winning. In Samson they have an excellent young batsman. They also have one young off spinner who is talented. By all means encourage them but they should be at the right batting order. I look forward to a good game.

RD did mistake in last match by bringing him down at 8. he should always come in top 3 order. my team for today RD perara watson rahane hodge binny samson faukner chandalia trivedi .........srisanth/ r any fast bowler/shukla/ give one chace to rahane in middle ordr parera can be very handy if given 2-3 continuous games

RR need a few changes to their side. Yagnik out, Sachin Baby in. Owais Shah out, Kusal Perera in. Hogg out, Hodge in. Chavan out, Chandila in. Play Rahane down the order and let Perera open with Watto. Dravid needs to come in at 3 if an early wicket falls, because he's at his most useful in the powerplay. Sreesanth can come in for Trivedi, but I'm not sure about that.

If i am in Pune Warriors management team, i would bench Ashok Dinda for all the rest of the season & would trade him in next year even if it means for less bucks...what a bowler? just runs in hard, bangs in overpitch & gets dispatched everywhere in the ground....there are two sweeps of a fast bowler for six this year by Dhoni & ABD..guess the fast bowler..yes " Ashok Dinda"...more horrifying is that, Pune Captains allows him to the death Overs again & again...with BK, Rahul Sharma in their ranks, its very poor captaicy & alas " Dinda"

Dravid did a mistake in the earlier match by playing Rahane who is woefully out of touch. If he had included Sachin Baby instead of Rahane,he would have scored at least 20 runs in the balls played by Rahane and RR would have been in a much better position. In addition Sachin baby can bowl and he is also an exceptionally good fielder. Hope Dravid atones for his mistake and gives a chance toi Sachin Baby .Let the whole world get a chance to see the next Sachin.

RR known to be the gentlemen team this season should have to make some changes- Why you need to include Yagnik and Samson- please play Sachin Baby who played exceptionally well in the recent domestic matches..I am not writing negatively against Samson but Sachin played better than Samson all these season..Both are talented players..Please give one chance to Sachin and I am sure he will make a difference..RR overseas players should have to be Watson,Cooper,Faulkner, Kusal Perera..Perera can make a difference with the bat..Before SL cricket board call Perera back, give him a chance...bring Rahane down the batting order- Watson,Perera,Rahane,Samson,Binny,S.Baby,Dravid,Cooper,Faulkner,Trivedi,Chandila will be ideal..

RR must win this game and be in a better position of Play-off race Dravid should keep the things simple and uncomplicated unlike KKR match... Get hodge in in place of Owes, Get Kooper in in place of Hogg... He himself should open or bat at no3... not below than that! The batting order should be: Dravid, Watson, Rahane, Hodge, Samson, Binny, Yagnik, Faulkner, Kooper, Chandila, Trivedi, shreeshant Bat sensibly in initial 6 overs and rest will be taken care by RR hitters.... They should play watchful against Bhuvi and target Dinda & Rahul Sharma

There are players from different era, different class, different technique. There are people who dreamt to become Great and achieved it, some would like talking about it and some would just be modest. But away from all this there is a Man. The man named Rahul Dravid. The gentle man of the game having the utter respect for the game he played , re defining the words like responsibility, dedication and patience. Ready to do anything and everything that he was asked to do for the benefit of the team. The way he leads Royals is amazing and something that a Father can show his Son or daughter and tell them thats what unselfishness means and trust me there would not be a better lesson to learn. you RD the beauty. Respect is the only thing I have for you. You win games or you dont but you win hearts and you are there in every Indians heart. I am a DHini Fan , I am a Sachin Fan, I am a Kohli Fan but I would be the happiest if you wint this IPL. Salute you Sir.

RR should have a good Batting-Bowling Combinatiion especially for this match as the Jaipur pitch is evenly helpful for both batting & swing Bowling !! Hopefully Brad Hodge will make comeback in place of Hogg and they have to strenghten their fast bowling department somehow.

PWI need to get Dinda out. His economy rate has been horrifyingly poor this season, performing worse than even Ashish Nehra last year. Bring in the left-armer from Vidarbha, Shrikant Wagh. He'll bring a different dimension into their bowling too since they don't have a left-arm pacer in their bowling line-up.

Yeah, 18 year Sanju Samson seems to be a find of the season for Rajasthan and to Indian Bench strength. He looks very promising but it would be little early to conclude. May be we see him little more and then be more sure.

If Robin had a concern he should have shared with Team Management not with Media. What if Pune would been doing well, had he told the same thing ?A person's character is identified when the chips are down. I would have liked to see him expressing his disappointment for not taking the team home in last match against RCB rather than blaming Team Management for changes. I believe an individual can have opinion but when its a team alignment of thought is vital. I liked Robin around 2007 but his attitude towards game kept him away from Indian Team and he again proved its not changed !!!
