12 April 2013 - night match (20-over match)

Welcome back. We are ready. So is Reddy. To face Irfan Pathan

0.1

Pathan to Reddy, no run, swinging in towards off, defended respectfully

0.2

Pathan to Reddy, no run

0.3

Pathan to Reddy, no run, swinging in towards off again, defended from the crease

0.4

Pathan to Reddy, no run, pitched up wide, Reddy doesn't go after it

0.5

Pathan to Reddy, no run, goes for the heave-ho, mis-hits it back to Pathan

Can Pathan start a second straight match with a maiden?

0.6

Pathan to Reddy, 1 wide, this one doesn't swing, angles away, and angles away too wide. Called. breaks the maiden

0.6

Pathan to Reddy, 1 run, short of a length, outside off, dabbed away to third man for one

End of over 1 (2 runs) Sunrisers Hyderabad 2/0 (113 runs required from 19 overs, RR: 2.00, RRR: 5.94)

    • PA Reddy 1 (6b)
    • PA Patel 0 (0b)
    • IK Pathan 1-0-2-0

Sid Kaul to bowl now

1.1

Kaul to Reddy, no run, full, on off, driven to mid-on

1.2

Kaul to Reddy, OUT, that's superb fielding. He is gone for all money here. Nadeem has stunned Reddy. Pushed to leg for what looks like a regulation single, but Nadeem swoops in from midwicket, and throws it one motion, and direct onto the stumps at the non-striker's end. Gone by one frame. Closer than what it looked to me, but I would have given this out without the third umpire

PA Reddy run out 1 (6m 8b 0x4 0x6) SR: 12.50

1.3

Kaul to Patel, no run, on a length, on off, pushed to mid-off

1.4

Kaul to Patel, no run, length ball, on off, left alone to angle away

Aman: "That is out, unless you are a Chennai batsman !"

"How that can be out?? Hussey was given not out 2 days ago in similar circumstances." Simran, I haven't seen that

1.5

Kaul to Patel, no run, length ball, on off, pushed to cover

1.6

Kaul to Patel, no run, Kaul begins his IPl career with a maiden. Full, on off, pushed to cover. Surely this is a first? His first IPL over, and it's a maiden

End of over 2 (wicket maiden) Sunrisers Hyderabad 2/1 (113 runs required from 18 overs, RR: 1.00, RRR: 6.27)

    • PA Patel 0 (4b)
    • KC Sangakkara 0 (0b)
    • S Kaul 1-1-0-0

2.1

Pathan to Sangakkara, no run, short of a length, on off, defended back to him

2.2

Pathan to Sangakkara, 1 run, short of a length, angling in, pushed to mid-on softly for a single

2.3

Pathan to Patel, no run, short-arm pull to midwicket. Not short enough, but he does well

2.4

Pathan to Patel, FOUR, pulled away again. Once again, not too short, but he has got enough bat on this to clear square leg and go for four

2.5

Pathan to Patel, no run, short of a length, just outside off, punched to cover-point

2.6

Pathan to Patel, no run, fullish, swinging, Patel wants to cut, and is beaten

End of over 3 (5 runs) Sunrisers Hyderabad 7/1 (108 runs required from 17 overs, RR: 2.33, RRR: 6.35)

    • PA Patel 4 (8b 1x4)
    • KC Sangakkara 1 (2b)

    • S Kaul 1-1-0-0

Jude: "SH has three wicket keepers in the team.. and couple of them not doing well so far in the batting.. they are in the ground and time to get some form"

3.1

Kaul to Sangakkara, no run, Kaul is not yet scored off. Digs this one in short, gets good bounce towards the chest, cut away to cover-point

3.2

Kaul to Sangakkara, no run, I don't see Sid Kaul going for a run. Ever. On a length, outside off, pushed to short cover

3.3

Kaul to Sangakkara, FOUR, slower ball, short of a length, angling away, punched between cover and cover-point for four. Kaul's honeymoon is over

3.4

Kaul to Sangakkara, no run, back to normal pace, driven to point

3.5

Kaul to Sangakkara, FOUR, that's muscled down the ground. Full, outside off, and he swipes it between the bowler and mid-on. That has rocketed away

3.6

Kaul to Sangakkara, no run, nice-looking square drive on the up, but finds cover-point with it

End of over 4 (8 runs) Sunrisers Hyderabad 15/1 (100 runs required from 16 overs, RR: 3.75, RRR: 6.25)

    • KC Sangakkara 9 (8b 2x4)
    • PA Patel 4 (8b 1x4)

Morne into the attack

4.1

Morkel to Patel, 1 run, short of a length, on the pads, bunted to leg for one

4.2

Morkel to Sangakkara, 1 run, another superb-looking square-drive from Sanga. Boy is he looking ominous today? However, this one has been stopped by a diving Botha at cover-point

4.3

Morkel to Patel, 1 run, nicely done. Drops this shortish delivery at his feet and takes a single

4.4

Morkel to Sangakkara, 3 runs, tucked away off the pads, to the right of Yadav at deep square. Yadav tries to lob this to the other man charging in from the infield, but lobs it wide, and they take one more than they should have

4.5

Morkel to Patel, FOUR, wristily played. Slightly too straight, and he has glanced this fine for four

Morkel goes round the stumps

4.6

Morkel to Patel, no run, length ball, outside off, sliced away to point

End of over 5 (10 runs) Sunrisers Hyderabad 25/1 (90 runs required from 15 overs, RR: 5.00, RRR: 6.00)

    • PA Patel 10 (12b 2x4)
    • KC Sangakkara 13 (10b 2x4)
    • M Morkel 1-0-10-0
    • S Kaul 2-1-8-0

Umesh Yadav into the attack now. One wide slip in

5.1

Yadav to Sangakkara, FOUR, amazing shot. Wide length ball, he goes down on a knee, and drives it in the air, and over cover. To do that against somebody bowling in mid-140s is incredible

5.2

Yadav to Sangakkara, no run, defended off the back foot this time

5.3

Yadav to Sangakkara, 1 run, short of a length, outside off, tries to punch it away, gets a thick edge to third man

5.4

Yadav to Patel, no run, full outside off, driven with an open face, finds point with it

5.5

Yadav to Patel, FOUR, cut in the air this time. Patel follows Sanga's lead, but this is an easier shot to ply because he is using Yadav's pace as opposed to going against it. This is short, not too wide, but he goes deliberately over point with the cut

5.6

Yadav to Patel, FOUR, what a flick. Length ball, middle and leg, and he has placed it between mid-on and midwicket. Hyderabad are well and truly on their way now

End of over 6 (13 runs) Sunrisers Hyderabad 38/1 (77 runs required from 14 overs, RR: 6.33, RRR: 5.50)

    • PA Patel 18 (15b 4x4)
    • KC Sangakkara 18 (13b 3x4)
    • UT Yadav 1-0-13-0
    • M Morkel 1-0-10-0

Johan Botha into the attack now. Going round the stumps with a slip in

6.1

Botha to Sangakkara, no run, flighted, on off, pushed back to him

6.2

Botha to Sangakkara, FOUR, lovely chip. Sanga is down the wicket, plays a pick-up off the toes. Morkel at deep midwicket makes a dive to go for the catch but can't reach it

6.3

Botha to Sangakkara, no run, defended back to him

6.4

Botha to Sangakkara, 1 run, down the wicket to drive this to long-off for one

6.5

Botha to Patel, no run, stays back to defend a fullish delivery

6.6

Botha to Patel, no run, goes right back to cut this off the stumps, but can't beat point

End of over 7 (5 runs) Sunrisers Hyderabad 43/1 (72 runs required from 13 overs, RR: 6.14, RRR: 5.53)

    • PA Patel 18 (17b 4x4)
    • KC Sangakkara 23 (17b 4x4)
    • J Botha 1-0-5-0
    • UT Yadav 1-0-13-0

More spin. Shahbaz Nadeem it is

7.1

Nadeem to Sangakkara, 1 run, short of a length, on the pads, worked to short fine for a single

7.2

Nadeem to Patel, 1 run, turning into the pads, concedes the single to short fine

Nadeem has been, and is, bowling round the stumps to the left-hand batsmen

7.3

Nadeem to Sangakkara, 1 run, slower through the air, worked to short fine again

7.4

Nadeem to Patel, OUT, leading edge back to Nadeem. This is slow in the air again, Patel tries to flick it to leg, is early into it, gets a healthy leading edge, and Nadeem goes back to the stumps and accepts the dolly

PA Patel c & b Nadeem 19 (34m 19b 4x4 0x6) SR: 100.00

Hanuma Vihari in, as is a slip

7.5

Nadeem to Vihari, no run, short ball, outside off, cut straight to point

7.6

Nadeem to Vihari, no run, tossed up on off, defended to cover

End of over 8 (3 runs) Sunrisers Hyderabad 46/2 (69 runs required from 12 overs, RR: 5.75, RRR: 5.75)

    • GH Vihari 0 (2b)
    • KC Sangakkara 25 (19b 4x4)
    • S Nadeem 1-0-3-1
    • J Botha 1-0-5-0
8.1

Botha to Sangakkara, no run, sharp offbreak. On a length, on off, he plays the angle, and is beaten by the turn

8.2

Botha to Sangakkara, 1 run, slightly shorter, he goes back to work this to deep square for one

Srini: "I can't figure who is best at throwing their wicket away after good starts: Parthiv or Uthappa?"

8.3

Botha to Vihari, no run, tossed up on off, defended to leg

8.4

Botha to Vihari, 1 run, topspinner, Vihari goes back to work this to leg

8.5

Botha to Sangakkara, 1 run, driven to long-off for one

Round the stumps

8.6

Botha to Vihari, no run, flighted on the pads, flicked to short midwicket

Time-out now

    • KC Sangakkara 27 (22b 4x4)
    • J Botha 2-0-8-0
    • S Nadeem 1-0-3-1
9.1

Nadeem to Sangakkara, no run, another leading edge, but this is soft and dies as soon as it leaves the bat

9.2

Nadeem to Sangakkara, 1 leg bye, down the wicket, beaten in the flight, is hit on the front pad onto the back and rolls towards the wicketkeeper. Sanga makes it back just in time

9.3

Nadeem to Vihari, no run, short of a length, cut away, can;t beat point

9.4

Nadeem to Vihari, no run, slower through the air, short of a length, pushed to backward point

Subramanian Venkatraman: "The match is so boring, even the regulars have stopped commenting and you also seem to be reading newspaper in between balls rather than making witty comments!"

9.5

Nadeem to Vihari, no run, arm ball, angling in towards off, defended off the back foot

9.6

Nadeem to Vihari, 1 run, slower in the air, guided to short third man for one

End of over 10 (2 runs) Sunrisers Hyderabad 51/2 (64 runs required from 60 balls, RR: 5.10, RRR: 6.40)

    • GH Vihari 2 (9b)

Bala: "@Srini: Neither can tie Carl Hopper's shoelaces when it comes to that."

10.1

Botha to Vihari, 1 run, down the wicket to drive this to long-on for one

10.2

Botha to Sangakkara, 1 run, slightly short, punched away to point, where a misfield from Yadav allows them the single

10.3

Botha to Vihari, 1 run, down the wicket again, gets the single to long-on

10.4

Botha to Sangakkara, no run, slower through the air, flighted higher too. Sanga tries to loft this down the ground, but is beaten on the inside. No turn on this one

Slip in for Sanga too

10.5

Botha to Sangakkara, no run, slightly shorter, late-cut away, but can't beat point

10.6

Botha to Sangakkara, OUT, Sehwag is sharp enough at slip without spectacles. This is game on. Absolutely on. Sanga looks to back-cut again. The ball is not short enough, and Sehwag coolly accepts the thick edge at slip. In front of his left knee

KC Sangakkara c Sehwag b Botha 28 (40m 28b 4x4 0x6) SR: 100.00

End of over 11 (3 runs) Sunrisers Hyderabad 54/3 (61 runs required from 54 balls, RR: 4.90, RRR: 6.77)

    • J Botha 3-0-11-1
    • S Nadeem 2-0-4-1

"Why not send white and perera and end this soon." Ram, it's Cameron White in, but he is not on strike

11.1

Nadeem to Vihari, 1 run, short of a length, Vihari gets an inside edge for one

11.2

Nadeem to White, no run, ho ho ho. That ball has lodged so deep into the helmet grille it might get out of shape when pulled out. Looks to paddle this, gets a top edge into the helmet, and the ball decides to take a nap there. Patel tries, Sehwag tries, and finally Warner is able to pull it out. Warner manages a mock appeal too

11.3

Nadeem to White, 1 run, driven nicely to deep cover for one

11.4

Nadeem to Vihari, SIX, Clears Sid Kaul by inches. Driven inside-out, towards long-off. Kaul is not all the way back, he has had to back-track, and it goes through his fingers for a six

11.5

Nadeem to Vihari, no run, defended back to him

11.6

Nadeem to Vihari, 1 run, down the wicket to drive this to long-on for one

End of over 12 (9 runs) Sunrisers Hyderabad 63/3 (52 runs required from 48 balls, RR: 5.25, RRR: 6.50)

12.1

Morkel to Vihari, no run, on a length, on off, pushed to short cover

12.2

Morkel to Vihari, no run, short of a length, looks to run this down to third man. Beaten clearly by the pace. And there is a slip in place for good measure. Not a smart shot

12.3

Morkel to Vihari, 1 run, short of a length, outside off, dabs on it, gets a single wide of slip

12.4

Morkel to White, no run, on a length, on off, defended to short cover

12.5

Morkel to White, 1 run, full, into the pads, flicked away to deep square leg

12.6

Morkel to Vihari, no run, driven nicely, but straight to mid-on. Another good over for Delhi. Just two off

End of over 13 (2 runs) Sunrisers Hyderabad 65/3 (50 runs required from 42 balls, RR: 5.00, RRR: 7.14)

13.1

Nadeem to White, 1 run, slightly short, punched to deep cover for one

13.2

Nadeem to Vihari, 1 run, down the wicket, right to its pitch, drills it back at Nadeem, who misfields to allow them the single

13.3

Nadeem to White, 1 run, placed between cover-point and cover for one

13.4

Nadeem to Vihari, 1 run, down the track again, drives this to long-off for one

13.5

Nadeem to White, no run, on a length, on off, defended off the front foot

13.6

Nadeem to White, OUT, that's a brain freeze. White has charged down at Nadeem, and hoicked across the line of a shortish delivery. He charged too soon perhaps, Nadeem shortened the length, and White has virtually run past one

CL White st †Jadhav b Nadeem 4 (12m 8b 0x4 0x6) SR: 50.00

Important spell from Nadeem: four overs, 17 runs, two wickets

End of over 14 (4 runs) Sunrisers Hyderabad 69/4 (46 runs required from 36 balls, RR: 4.92, RRR: 7.66)

Thisara Perera is now, but he is not n strike

14.1

Morkel to Vihari, 2 runs, short of a length, driven to point, takes a risky single, Warner goes for the run-out, and concedes an overthrow. Backing up is not good

14.2

Morkel to Vihari, OUT, Vihari is gone. Drives at a length ball, but Morkel's extra bounce hits him high on the bat, and mid-off takes a sharp catch. Good on Mahela for having that mid-off up too

GH Vihari c Botha b Morkel 17 (27m 23b 0x4 1x6) SR: 73.91

Delhi favourites now, except for Thisara Perera

14.3

Morkel to Ashish Reddy, 1 run, driven on the up, wide of point, gets a single

Harish: "I attribute the wickets of sangakkara and white to Vihari.he played so slowley that put pressure on the other batsmen and gave their wickets"

Mahela takes his time to set the field for Perera. A slip is in

14.4

Morkel to Perera, 1 run, worked away off the pads for a single. Reddy wants the second, but is rightly sent back

14.5

Morkel to Ashish Reddy, 2 runs, pace like fiyah, but they take two. This is a brute rising towards the chest from a length, but it goes sofly off the glove and into the vacant space on the leg side

14.6

Morkel to Ashish Reddy, 1 run, more pace and bounce, guided away past point for one. Morkel tumbles in his follow-through, Warner dives at point but doesn't get a touch. Bodies on the ground

End of over 15 (7 runs) Sunrisers Hyderabad 76/5 (39 runs required from 30 balls, RR: 5.06, RRR: 7.80)

    • A Ashish Reddy 4 (3b)

Srini: "Those 3 extra runs Mishra spilled at the end might decide the result!"

Yadav comes back

15.1

Yadav to Ashish Reddy, 2 runs, pushed wide of sweeper-cover for two

15.2

Yadav to Ashish Reddy, 1 run, backs away to hit at a quick length ball, the outside edge avoids slip and goes for a single

15.3

Yadav to Perera, 1 run, short, quick, clearly late into the pull, gets a single off the bottom edge

Vivek: "@Harish: I attribute the wicket of Vihari to Sanga & White: 2 international experienced cricketers throwing away their wicket , putting pressure on a youngster.."

15.4

Yadav to Ashish Reddy, FOUR, backs away to hit this slower ball between mid-off and cover. Not the prettiest of the shots, but I don;t know a team that will turn down these four runs

15.5

Yadav to Ashish Reddy, FOUR, Reddy is backing away to everything, but it is working. This time he gets a thick edge that flies over the keeper and the slip. Now the asking rate is close to a run a ball

The slip goes out

15.6

Yadav to Ashish Reddy, 1 run, moves back and across to this skiddy short ball. Is late into it, but the mistimed pull falls safe in the leg side

Final time-out of the match

End of over 16 (13 runs) Sunrisers Hyderabad 89/5 (26 runs required from 24 balls, RR: 5.56, RRR: 6.50)

    • A Ashish Reddy 16 (8b 2x4)
    • NLTC Perera 2 (2b)
    • UT Yadav 2-0-26-0
    • M Morkel 3-0-19-1

Twenty-six to win off the final four. This last over has shifted the balance towards Sunrisers, but here is Morkel, who has been hard to hit

16.1

Morkel to Ashish Reddy, OUT, looks like the slower ball, and Morkel has shifted the balance again. Reddy backs away again, Morkel bowls the fast offcutter, Reddy is early into his swipe, and the leg stump is flat

A Ashish Reddy b Morkel 16 (12m 9b 2x4 0x6) SR: 177.77

Amit Mishra is the new man in. Scored a Ranji double hundred this season

16.2

Morkel to Mishra, no run, slower ball again, gets extra bounce, hits the higher part of the bat

16.3

Morkel to Mishra, 1 no ball, yorker, but he has overstepped. Is this the turning point? Perfect yorker, but he has to now bowl a free hit

16.3

Morkel to Mishra, no run, full and wide, Mishra tries to drive, is beaten by the pace

16.4

Morkel to Mishra, FOUR, Mishra has smoked this one. Slower one, but on a length, on middle and leg, in the natural swing of a tailender, and he has sent this flying over midwicket

16.5

Morkel to Mishra, 2 runs, that's no tailender shot. Fullish, on the pads, and he has flicked this away just wide of long leg for two

16.6

Morkel to Mishra, 1 run, Jadhav gets a touch to this one. Full and just outside off, the edge flies, but the diving Jadhav gets a touch to take the sting off it and saves three runs

End of over 17 (8 runs) Sunrisers Hyderabad 97/6 (18 runs required from 18 balls, RR: 5.70, RRR: 6.00)

    • A Mishra 7 (6b 1x4)
    • NLTC Perera 2 (2b)
    • M Morkel 4-0-27-2
    • UT Yadav 2-0-26-0

Mishra takes strike again. Perera has faced only two balls in the three overs he has been at the wicket so far. Here is Botha. Crucial over. No he is taken off. Change of thought. He hands the ball over to Irfan Pathan

17.1

Pathan to Mishra, 2 runs, they are appealing for obstructing the field. Mishra tries the ramp, is hit on the back of his bat, to cover. Perera wants the single, Mishra responds, and the throw hits his back. Now we don't know if Mishra changed his line. Mishra is fine. He never looked at the fielder, and never changed direction. And Sunrisers are so desperate they take the overthrow off the body. Mahela Jayawardene is letting his displeasure known. Just to rub it in, Mishra is hit on the back when taking the second too

Sixteen off 17 now

17.2

Pathan to Mishra, no run, slower offcutter, short of a length, Mishra is beaten on the punch

17.3

Pathan to Mishra, 1 run, pushes at a wide length ball, it goes off the thick outside edge for a single

Finally Perera gets the strike

17.4

Pathan to Perera, OUT, lovely catch by Botha. Delhi refuse to die, Hyderabad refuse to step over the line. Did anyone say tie? Wide length ball, slower I presume, Perera lofts down the ground but doesn't time it well. Botha sets himself up at the edge of the boundary, and takes it overhead. Makes it look easy, but believe me this is a difficult catch. He has judged this early and perfectly, he knows where he is with respect to the boundary, and then he has executed it perfectly

NLTC Perera c Botha b Pathan 2 (27m 3b 0x4 0x6) SR: 66.66

In comes Dale Steyn, but Mishra is on strike

17.5

Pathan to Mishra, 1 run, tries the ramp, but this is a slower ball so it doesn't beat short fine leg

17.6

Pathan to Steyn, 2 runs, superb shot, superb fielding. Short of a length, outside off, absolutely smoked away to the right of deep cover, but Nadeem puts in the dive, gets a hand to it, and then gets a hand to the ricochet even as he is sliding. That's two runs saved

End of over 18 (6 runs) Sunrisers Hyderabad 103/7 (12 runs required from 12 balls, RR: 5.72, RRR: 6.00)

    • DW Steyn 2 (1b)

    • IK Pathan 3-0-13-1
    • M Morkel 4-0-27-2

Yadav comes back. Both his previous overs have gone for 13 each. Time for redemption?

18.1

Yadav to Mishra, FOUR, no redemption song for Yadav tonight? Short, not too wide, but he arches back superbly and he upper-cuts it over point. Mishra is making up for that misfield at the end of the first innings?

18.2

Yadav to Mishra, 1 run, length ball, on off, Mishra looks to work to leg, gets a leading edge, past short cover, for one

18.3

Yadav to Steyn, no run, bowled from behind the stumps. On a length, outside off, driven to short cover

18.4

Yadav to Steyn, 1 run, slower ball, gets a leading edge from Steyn, concedes a single to third man

Mid-off comes up, fine leg goes back

18.5

Yadav to Mishra, no run, Mishra tries the ramp, but is beaten. This could have been over. Not a smart ball. Too short, and only chest high

18.6

Yadav to Mishra, no run, done in by pace. Short, outside off, Mishra looks for the late-cut, but is late into it. Yadav does redeem himself after that four first ball

End of over 19 (6 runs) Sunrisers Hyderabad 109/7 (6 runs required from 6 balls, RR: 5.73, RRR: 6.00)

    • A Mishra 16 (14b 2x4)
    • DW Steyn 3 (3b)
    • UT Yadav 3-0-32-0
    • IK Pathan 3-0-13-1

Last over. Are Hyderabad going to manufacture another tie?

Irfan Pathan to bowl the final over. Botha and Kaul were the other options

19.1

Pathan to Steyn, 2 runs, length ball, outside off, Steyn drives, clears point with the slice, gets two, crucial two

"Not really worried," says Mahela Jayawardene. "Playing some good cricket. A couple of good games have not gone our way. We have to keep improving. The bowling was pretty good, but I don't think we assessed the wicket well. we were looking at 160-170, but the wicket was more like 140. If we had assessed the wicket better, the shot selection would have been better. The bowlers did a good job and created opportunities for us, but we didn't have enough on the board. Nadeem has been some talent for us. Kedar is a guy we know can deliver for us. It;s been up and down but quite happy with the effort of some of the boys. Delhi fans have been always supportive. It hasn't happened so far in the season, but we will repay the faith."

"Proud to lead the Hyderabad Sunrisers," says Kumar Sangakkara. "A hard-fought win today. We should have finished with three-four overs in hand. We didn't have the greatest of the starts, but in the middle too we got bogged down. All credit to Steyno, Mishra, Reddy and Parthiv too. But the bowling was outstanding. It is a good start, but a lot of hard work to do. we have lost a couple of players to injuries."

"Bit of pressure there," says Amit Mishra, the Man of the Match. "I have been improving my batting for the last two seasons. It helped me here. I am trying my best, working hard on batting and fielding. The team's win is more important for me than my personal contribution. Great support from Tom, Sanga and the owners."

Mostly relief on Hyderabad faces after they messed up another chase, but have eked out the points again. Top effort from their bowlers, but they were not great with the chase. Steyn and Mishra, though, see them through in the end. Hang around for quotes from the presentation
