Indian Premier League - 18th match

Rajasthan Royals v Kings XI Punjab

Rajasthan Royals won by 6 wickets (with 4 balls remaining)

All set then. Here is a surprise, Ajit Chandila comes in to bowl to Mandeep. He comes over the wicket

Fatha Hinds: "Good to see that Watson is back in the Royals line up. Even though he will not be bowling, he's such an imposing figure and I'm sure his team mates spirits will be lifted by his presence out in the middle. Other than Chris Gayle, he is the one person who can single handedly take away a game from the opposition."

Mujeeb: "@Fatha Hinds. ABDV and MSD are watching you.."

Gaurav: "This may seem somewhat controversial given the star quality that Watson evokes, but his bowling absence means that he is not simply good enough as a bat when compared to Owais Shah. Shah is one of the best T20 batsmen around, and one of the most effortless six hitters that I've seen in T20s."

Royals have won the toss and they are going to field first. Watson comes back, Sanju Samson and Ajit Chandila (Remember his hat-trick last year?) are in as well. Kings XI retain their XI from the previous game.

"We are not concerned about the results, we need to get the processes right," says Rahul Dravid. It takes me back to 2006 when he was the captain of the Indian side.

Josh: "Interestingly, only 5 of the 17 matches so far this season have been won by the away side."

Vishnu: "So happy for the young 18 year old lad Sanju Samson! He has earned for it."

Ravinder: "As a KXIP fan I'm worried. Only two teams have always had upper hand against my team RR being one and CSK other."

yogi: "@Ravinder Are you sure? Coz if only two sides have the upper hand then KX1P should have managed to be in the semis more often."

Gareth: "I hope the Royals don't bench Faulkner. I think in his internationals and first game for Rajasthan he's proven how valuable he is. If Dravid uses him correctly, he'll be a massive game changer."

Manu Jha: "@Gareth Ya i remember how Faulkner changed the game Perth Scorchers by bowling a No Ball in front of Hussey when 3 was required of 1 . Definitely a game changer !! He is the RP Singh of Australia."

Sushil: "Dravid Vs Gilchrist, Two great batsmen, wicketkeepers, gentlemen. This will be a good game without any clashes on the field I guess!"

Hello and welcome to our coverage of the IPL. Kolkata are on the verge of a win, but another match is on the cards. Rahul Dravid and Adam Gilchrist face-off today in Jaipur. Owais Shah earlier said that a fully-fit side should be available for this game, that means Shaun Tait and Rahul Shukla could be coming in to take advantage of a spicy wicket in Jaipur.

First look of the pitch reveals it has retained its greenish tinge.

Paul Hart: "AG has nt contributed with the bat other than 17/5/2012 when scoring 64 no. He was a great all rounder and is probably on a good earner but his all round contribution is not good enough and he should move aside and let one of the young guns have a go!!!!"

1.1

Sreesanth to Mandeep Singh, 2 leg byes, bowls a short of length delivery on the pads, Mandeep goes for a pull, but it hits the thigh pad and rolls fine on the leg side, the batsmen steal a couple

Adhithya S R: "@Gaurav So you are saying that Watson has to put in a lot of effort to hit sixes!!! Wow Never thought one could compare Watson and Shah...I would rather compare Shah and Hodge."

1.2

Sreesanth to Mandeep Singh, 2 wides, wild delivery down the leg side this time, the keeper dives and gets a hand to it, parries it down to fine leg

1.2

Sreesanth to Gilchrist, OUT, that's a good catch at mid-off by Trivedi! It was a check shot played off a length ball by Gilly and it floated over the right shoulder, Trivedi takes a few steps back and stretches to pluck that out. Another match, another failure for Gilly.

Sreesanth to Vohra, 1 run, another dab and another quick run, this time towards mid-off

Ian: "Watson has done the job for his national side in limited overs games often enough to call him one of the world's best, whether he's bowling or not. The Royals are a much stronger outfit with him in the side. I look forward to seeing him bat against a relatively weak bowling attack today."

1.6

Sreesanth to Mandeep Singh, OUT, caught at third-man! It's a different day, that's all we can say for Sreesanth. It was a length delivery wide outside off and it swings away too, the batsman throws his bat at that and gets a thick edges that flies straight down the throat of third man

3.2

Sreesanth to Hussey, no run, that one is a beauty! That is one ball that makes Sreesanth dangerous. On a length on off stump and leaves the batsman late, beats him in his defence

3.3

Sreesanth to Hussey, OUT, keeps it there on a length, the batsman defends it off the back foot towards off side, and they call for a single towards cover point, but they make the fatal mistake of taking on Faulkener, who just had to move a few paces to his left. 5.2

Cooper to Hussey, no run, length delivery outside off, he dabs it towards cover

5.3

Cooper to Hussey, 2 runs, he makes some room to this length delivery and chops it hard over point fielder to come back for a couple of runs

5.4

Cooper to Hussey, FOUR, this pace is easy and on this hard pitch, it's making it easier for the batsmen. Hussey again makes room and just times the length ball through the gap at cover point..

5.5

Cooper to Hussey, 2 runs, slower delivery outside off, the batsman is again making room and ends up slicing this one over the infield, he is lucky as it just drops down before Watson from cover can get to it

Subhankar: "i always believed that Sreesanth is arguably one of the best swing bowlers India have ever produced. He gets more dangerous when he touches that 145kmph mark,if we look at his earlier days in the int'l cricket he was really a dangerous quickie with the new ball but unfortunately he hasn't been consistent like the most of the Indian bowlers."

6.2

Faulkner to Hussey, 1 run, he waits for the length ball and guides it to third man for a single

Mohit Ranka: "Really impressed by the ground at jaipur. Has something for bowler as well as the batsmen. Kudos to RR and the grounds staff."

8.6

Trivedi to Sathish, 1 run, stays in the crease and pushes the back of length delivery to cover

9.2

Sreesanth to Sathish, no run, keeps it there around the off stump, he is really testing the batsman although this was not very quick. The batsman defends it to off

Karan: "Talent-wise, yeah, Sree might be one of the most talented ones, but talent cannot be measured empirically, neither does it hold any tangible value until it can be measured in terms of wickets, runs, etc. So, no, Sree is not one of the best India has produced. Talent is an a word that can be arbitrarily thrown around finding its base on rare events of - almost, well - visceral appeal."

9.3

Sreesanth to Sathish, (no ball) 1 run, back of length delivery on off stump, the batsman stays in the crease and works it down to fine-leg. But Sreesenth as overstepped..

Has Sreesanth run out of patience? Free-hit time. Long-on, deep cover, long-on..

9.4

Sreesanth to Hussey, 1 run, slightly short of length outside off, the batsman again punches it from the crease, to deep cover

9.5

Sreesanth to Sathish, no run, he comes down the pitch to an insiwnger and gets hit on the pads, Sreesanth carries on with his appeal, but that was always going down the leg side

Arjun: "The people comparing Sreesanth to Steyn ... It's like looking at Nathan Lyon's dismissal of Tendulkar and saying that Lyon is as skillful as Murali, just not as consistent. It takes more than a few good days to be a 'great' swing bowler"

9.6

Sreesanth to Sathish, FOUR, it's a boundary, and it's off the outside edge. Good length delivery outside off, the batsman comes forward and gets a good thick edge through the vacant second slip region

Faulkner to Harris, 1 run, angled delivery from wide of the crease, it is punched down to long-on for a single

16.5

Faulkner to Azhar Mahmood, FOUR, he moves outside leg and punches the angled delivery through extra cover. It seemed like a push, but the ball sped across the turf

16.6

Faulkner to Azhar Mahmood, 1 run, makes room again, this time he hits it squarer, to the fielder at deep cover

End of over 17 (8 runs) Kings XI Punjab 100/7 (RR: 5.88)

simran ghai: "fireworks in southall did punjab win? oh they reached 100.. milestone ..."

17.1

Cooper to Azhar Mahmood, FOUR, gets a full delivery and he clobbers it to the boundary at cow-corner

17.2

Cooper to Azhar Mahmood, no run, the bowler slows it down this time, it is a length ball outside off which the batsman tries to cut, he gets beaten by that

17.3

Cooper to Azhar Mahmood, OUT, now he gets the big wicket! another slower delivery and this one is on the middle stump line. Azhar was making room by moving down leg, but as soon as he saw the fuller length, he went across the line. But the ball went through the gap between the bat and the pad to hit the middle stump

Azhar Mahmood b Cooper 23 (26m 20b 3x4 0x6) SR: 115.00

17.4

Cooper to Kumar, 5 wides, bowls a slower delivery, but this one is down the leg side. The keeper dives and gets to it, but doesn't get behind it. It runs down to the boundary at fine leg

17.4

Cooper to Kumar, SIX, no problems for Praveen in dealing with the slower ball. He was expecting it and plays a perfect 100 yard drive in a golfing range.. Over long-on

17.5

Cooper to Kumar, no run, another slower delivery, this time it is outside off and it beats the bat

17.6

Cooper to Kumar, 1 run, quicker delivery this time, it's full on off stump, the batsman digs it out to long on for a single

End of over 18 (16 runs) Kings XI Punjab 116/8 (RR: 6.44)

18.2

Faulkner to Kumar, FOUR, charges down the pitch and makes room, he gets a length delivery to deal with too, it is slammed over the bowler's head. A good baseball hit that one.. Couple of bounces and to the boundary

PK reviving memories of the England tour from 2011

18.3

Faulkner to Kumar, no run, another low full-toss outside off, the batsman just doesn't pick it up and lets it go through to the keeper

Round the wicket

18.4

Faulkner to Kumar, OUT, oh no! He has walked down too far down the pitch! It was another low full toss outside off and PK was targeting that backward point area again, but he misses it and for some reason, walks a few paces down the pitch, the keeper has all the time in the world to hit the stumps...

P Kumar run out 15 (5m 7b 2x4 1x6) SR: 214.28

Back over the wicket

18.5

Faulkner to Awana, OUT, this one is a nasty delivery by Faulkner for the No. 11. He has been bowling those slower deliveries all this while, but he dishes out a quick short one on the body. Awana had no idea where it went as he took his eyes off the ball while fending it. The ball just lobbed over his head for the keeper to complete the catch

P Awana c †Samson b Faulkner 0 (1m 1b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

Excellent effort by Royals here. Sreesanth, Trivedi, Faulkner - everyone contributed. It was a good hard true batting wicket but just had enough spice in it to test the batsmen. But Punjab has got 124 on the board, which is way more than what they would have thought about not so long ago..

Prashant: "This is such a waste. They had like 10 balls and even if they scored singles, they could have reached around 135 which is pretty competitive."

Himanshu Tomar: "So thats how the cookie crumbles... worst part of not having a coach is that you dont have a person sitting outside who can tell you that there is something terribly wrong with the team... Gilly cant do everything.. wicketkeeping, opening, captain, coach... ohh please give him a break, he has retired..." --- Well Himanshu you have a point, but the argument gets settled in Jaipur itself. Rahul Dravid is also the coach of his team. And yes, Lehmann coaches Kings XI..

Aditya: "@Himanshu- KXIP do have a coach in Darren Lehmann. The point to look at here is,whether there is enough quality in the line-up for him to work with. Which I don't think is the case. Now,I'm not saying the likes of Mandeep,Vohra are not good. But in testing conditions, they're expected to come cropper. Their International stars had to take the initiative."

Akshita: "In logical reasoning any argument which is based on pure example is considered an weak argument . So we can't just say if Dravid can so should AG ."
