Jack: "If Hussey and DU Plesis open the match, then CSK will become unbeatable"

Narsi: "where are the one liners guys.....all I see in cric info comments now a days is complete analysis"

Partha: "People have stopped giving one-liners from the day Miller said his famous one."

Shahul Marzook: "@Jack: one liners are like T-20 and complete analysis (paragraphs) are like Test. We all know that test cricket is the ultimate one."

7.45 pm

pranav: "The problem with an EPL style tournament will be many. Firstly cricket is not THAT much popular a game as football is. Therefore, you won't have fans flocking in to watch the matches if they would be scheduled at such large gaps. Secondly, Cricket has always been about bilateral, trilateral series, and the fans taking pride in their teams winning it, whereas Football is more about individual matches. The whole hoopla of this rivalry would be diminished if random matches will be held together. Thirdly, the most important thing is that the revenues will take a beating. Until and unless the whole matches are held in the subcontinent, you can't generate equal returns from that hypothesis as compared to those being earned now. The travelling, lodging and various other similar costs will be far more than the TV and ground earnings."

Sagar: "@Anshul: That'e because they have Michael Hussey, who does the job of 3 batsmen!"

7.40 pm

Rakesh Balavanthapu: "@Suneer - Before the feedback flood inundate your inbox, i have a quick question. I was umpiring in a game here last week and had a tough time taking a decision. Question : Can the WK move front/back from his position even before the ball is bowled OR when the bowler is still in his run-up ? Is it legal or no-ball ?" An umpire asking a commentator an umpiring-related question? That's a first! As I recall from the laws I read, the keeper can move a step or two forward but to move from being totally back to up to the stumps may not be legal.

Just a confirmation of what I said above, Nayyar: "@Rakesh Balavanthapu - According to Law 40 (Wicket keeper) of MCC Laws of cricket, point 4, "It is unfair if the wicket-keeper standing back makes a significant movement towards the wicket after the ball comes into play and before it reaches the striker. In the event of such unfair movement by the wicket-keeper, either umpire shall call and signal Dead ball. It will not be considered a significant movement if the wicket-keeper moves a few paces forward for a slower delivery.""

Shahed: "I quite like that idea of Vibhor Agarwal. They should do away with the bilateral one-day series that they have mandatorily each series - just have Tests, then these UEFA champions-league formatted T20 leagues and one ICC champions trophy like ODI tournament per year. Drop the ODI world cup and play world test championship every few years - 2/3/4."

Zuhri: "a couple days back prior to RCB's match against King IX, cricinfo homepage said "RCB looking to break away from the pack" They certainly will break away from the pack today if Sunrisers win :)"

MSDFan: "Hey Suneer, what's the pitch looking like? better for batting or bowling? who's in your fantasy team for today's game?" They seem to be talking about it being a typical Hyderabad pitch, so the assumption is that it will be slow and low. My team has Hussey, Bravo and Mishra.

Anshul: "I think CSK is the only team to have 3 bowlers in their 4 foreign players."

7.30 pm, Toss

Minutes away now. Sangakarra is out for the toss. Sanga has won the toss and decided that Hyderabad will bowl first. Dhoni wanted to bat first.

Hyderabad have made no changes to their side. Chennai, on the other hand, have one difference to their team, Jason Holder has come back for Ben Laughlin, who went for a few last game.

7.25 pm

Ramkumar: "The two months of IPL is like a god given boon. What ever worries i face during the day is washed away after the IPL games." So, would you like to have a weekly, EPL-style IPL that lasts nearly all year long?

sumanth: "I dont think weekly EPL style IPL can be orgsanised, given the international schedule in cricket whereas in football they have very few international frendlies every year.." You are underestimating those who can do it.

Nishanth: "Off topic, looking at Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement on a high note and the social media pandemonium it is creating, it is scary to imagine what will happen SRT decides to hang up his boots. CHAOS." Yep, and the suspense around the next manager is killing!

Vibhor Agarwal: "I want to extend that EPL-style idea, Suneer. Why not have all countries hosting such leagues to stage the matches on the weekends, itself? then have a Champions league style tournament once a year. maybe inter-league transfers during a transfer season, so on and so forth. We can have International matches (Limited Overs) mid-week and have a separate window for Test Cricket (say, 3 months a year) as well."

7.20 pm

Jay: "Hi Suneer, I had a question. At what rate are the retained players for each team be paid. I mean, they will not be auctioned so how will their worth be determined? Is there an article that explains this? thanks."

Jay, only once before, the players were allowed to be retained (maximum of four every team) after their initial contracts (three-year long) expired, that was before the new sides, Kochi and Pune came into being. At that time, the cost to the franchise was $1.8 million for the first player, $1.3 million for the second, $900,000 for the third and $500,000 for the fourth (subtracted from their purse allowed). The actual salary offered to the retained players wasn't revealed as far as I remember.

KKR Fan in Paris: "What does the result yesterday mean for KKR? Will the defending champs not even make it to the playoffs this time?" If they win all of them from now on, they get to 16 points. Difficult to see them go through given that five teams already have a minimum of 14 already.

7.15 pm

Sunil Gavaskar is at the venue and he says there's been some rain in Hyderabad. All's well now though and the covers seem to be off now.

Vivek Bhandari: "woahhh! you're here, so early...got an early train? :D" And a fast one.

Rajesh Patidar: "More than Sun risers i feel this game is more important to RCB..If SRH wins today..RCB will feel the heat.. :)"

Ravinder Phogat: "CSK is the only team which has not lost two consecutive games in this years IPL !! Hope they keep their record today."

7.10 pm

0.3

Steyn to Hussey, no run, not as full as the previous one, he was looking to drive at it but it gets an inside edge and it runs over to mid-on

0.4

Steyn to Hussey, no run, on the middle stump and slight movement back into Hussey, who taps it back to the bowler, again for a dot

0.5

Steyn to Hussey, no run, good length delivery and he's on the back foot, defending to the off side, to the fielder to bring up the fifth dot of the over, lot of respect from the batsman

1.1

I Sharma to Vijay, no run, on his pads, not too quick too and he rolls his wrists over that one, was in the air but falls well short of the fielder at short mid-wicket

1.2

I Sharma to Vijay, no run, short of length now and a tad quicker, 137 km/hr, pushed back to the bowler

1.3

I Sharma to Vijay, 1 run, and this is short of length, Vijay wants to go for that swipe he has across the line, gets an inside edge and it rolls over to the leg side for a single, the first run of the day

Kriti: "Seems like it is becoming a trend to start with a maiden over..."

1.4

I Sharma to Hussey, 1 wide, wide outside the off stump, it was bowled from round the stumps, and he went for a flashy drive, it seemed to be within the line

1.4

I Sharma to Hussey, FOUR, and finally a run for Hussey, and four of them actually, it is on a length and he goes for a shot on the up, beats the mid-off fielder...was in the air that one

vibhash: "@abdul wahab...people said the same about him before Aus test series."

1.5

I Sharma to Hussey, FOUR, up and over and into the fence, this was a good length ball but it was wide outside the off too, enough room to swing his arm, the slowness of the track means that he's hit it over the extra-cover region rather than cut it hard

Vignesh: "@abdul wahab. Its probably because Vijay has a reputation for firing at the back end of the IPL. That said I'd really like to see Faf play. CSK should look to drop one of their foreign bowlers and try to get Faf in."

1.6

I Sharma to Hussey, 1 run, gets closer to the stumps, but it's short of length and he opens the face of the bat and runs it down to third-man for a single

Steyn to Vijay, no run, shortish in length, cramping him for room too and he was looking to nudge it away, hits the pads

Vijayakarthick: "@Priyatharsan Uthayanathan: Then why Pune Warriors will not qualified. They have Rahul Sharma right?"

2.3

Steyn to Vijay, no run, shorter in length but quick and outside the off, Vijay has time to punch it through the covers, finds the fielder at point

2.4

Steyn to Vijay, no run, bouncer and he's got to go down quickly, that wasn't only short, it was pacy, 145.2 km/hr, but it was also well-directed and Vijay did well

2.5

Steyn to Vijay, no run, length ball and he goes back, pushes it to the off side, screams out "no!" and Hussey is back

2.6

Steyn to Vijay, 1 run, on a length and on the middle stump line, flicked away to the leg side for a single

Perera to Vijay, FOUR, and that's been caressed through the covers for a four, it was on a length and easily tapped through that area

3.6

Perera to Hussey, FOUR, short of length and he's been pulled away for a four, poor ball yet again, he bowled one last ball which Vijay failed to connect but Hussey does not miss out

4.4

I Sharma to Vijay, SIX, and another six! what a shot, that favourite one of his, clear front leg and hoicking it over the leg-side, two in two for Vijay!

4.5

I Sharma to Vijay, SIX, whoa, whoa, whoa, that's three sixes in three balls and Vijay, the out of form Vijay, has taken Ishant to the cleaners here, fuller and it's tonked over deep square-leg for a six!

Lot of advice for Ishant and the umpires look to search for a new ball. Seems like the previous one's lost. Or gone out of shape.

4.6

I Sharma to Vijay, no run, makes room and wants to hit it over the off side, it's short of length and gets extra bounce, beats the outside edge of the bat for a change

End of over 5 (18 runs) Chennai Super Kings 44/0 (RR: 8.80)

5.5

Bidwan Baruah: "The only way to stop a CSK batting onsault is to make sure Badrinath faces as many balls as possible. So SH needs a wicket urgently and then make sure Badrinath bats for a longer time!" How many times has Badri come out to bat this season?

Mishra to Raina, 1 run, fuller from Mishra, a very straight-looking bat gets him a very straight drive to long-off for a single

13.5

Mishra to Hussey, (no ball) 1 run, goes down the track and he bowls it shorter, almost beats the batsman, who gets an outside edge, runs across to the short third-man, good ball otherwise, except that's a no-ball, which means it's a Free-Hit for Raina!

13.5

Mishra to Raina, 2 runs, fuller from the bowler, a quicker one too and he pulls out a jab through to the deep square-leg area for a couple of runs

13.6

Mishra to Raina, 1 run, was looking to go down the track but stopped in his tracks, and pushes it to the leg side for a single

End of over 14 (8 runs) Chennai Super Kings 124/1 (RR: 8.85)

    • SK Raina 39 (29b 2x4 1x6)
    • MEK Hussey 53 (36b 4x4 3x6)

Perera comes in to the attack now.

Time-out taken now.

Nishant: "Hussey is few runs away from Orange cap...."

14.1

Perera to Raina, 1 run, fullish and quicker from the bowler, and tapped down the ground, hits Hussey on its way through to the long-off fielder

14.2

Perera to Hussey, FOUR, that was a quickish ball on his pads and he wants to whip it through the leg side, what he gets is an inside-edge and that runs away to fine-leg for a four

14.3

Perera to Hussey, 1 run, on his pads yet again and easily flicked away to fine-leg for a single

Sham: "Dale Steyn gave only 7 runs in 3 overs. That means CSK 117 runs in just 11 overs...Great!!!"

14.4

Perera to Raina, 2 leg byes, that's on his pads, it was a quickish delivery too and he fails to get any bat on it, hits his pads and there's an appeal from the bowler but the ump just walks away, it rushes to the fence where it's stopped and they get a couple of leg-byes

14.5

Perera to Raina, no run, down the leg side and he wants to flick it again, misses it this time and the umpire does not give it a wide, was too close to the leg stump I feel

14.6

Perera to Raina, FOUR, and this is an excellent shot, that was on his pads again, or would have been on his pads had he not shuffled across to the leg stump and got it off the middle of the bat, through to the deep point region for a four

End of over 15 (12 runs) Chennai Super Kings 136/1 (RR: 9.06)

    • SK Raina 44 (33b 3x4 1x6)
    • MEK Hussey 58 (38b 5x4 3x6)
    • NLTC Perera 3-0-29-1
    • A Mishra 3-0-25-0
15.1

Mishra to Hussey, 1 run, and now he goes down the track and wants to crack it away, gets it off the middle of the bat too but straight to extra-cover

15.2

Mishra to Raina, FOUR, clean as they come, very full from the leggie and not too much turn, he jabs it down through wide long-off for a four

15.3

Mishra to Raina, 2 runs, shorter in length and tucks it to the leg side for a single, hey but wait, he's tapped it so slowly that they are able to come back for the second by the time the fielder gets in, 50 for Raina

15.4

Mishra to Raina, 1 run, on the off stump, slightly shorter in length, tapped to the off side for a single

15.5

Mishra to Hussey, 2 runs, and now he goes down the track and takes it on the full, hits it over the bowler to get the two runs that will mean that OC will sit on his head tonight

15.6

Mishra to Hussey, SIX, and he celebrates that now with an inside-out shot that goes all the way for a six! it was a googly that was shorter in length, he only taps it over, times it and that's gone all the way!

End of over 16 (16 runs) Chennai Super Kings 152/1 (RR: 9.50)

    • MEK Hussey 67 (41b 5x4 4x6)
    • SK Raina 51 (36b 4x4 1x6)
    • A Mishra 4-0-41-0
    • NLTC Perera 3-0-29-1

Ravinder Phogat: "Suresh Raina completes 400 runs in this edition of the IPL. Only player to do so in all editions"

Yasasvy: "Come on man! I have given lesser runs in as many overs in EA cricket game! Guess its time I should switch off and go back to my PS!"

16.1

I Sharma to Raina, 1 wide, wide, wide, wide outside the off stump and called so, he's not found his line or length tonight Ishant

16.1

I Sharma to Raina, FOUR, up and over, yep, he's not found his line and length for sure, it was on a very full length but more vitally it was very wide too, gave him enough room to free his arm and that's tonked

16.2

I Sharma to Raina, 1 wide, whoa, that is Stephen Hamisonesque in his wide, he was moving towards the off stump alright but Ishant has sent it down so wide that the batsman on the adjacent pitch could have got a nick on it

16.2

I Sharma to Raina, SIX, see that's what he was afraid of Ishant, finally gets it close to the middle-stump, in fact it's on the middle and it's on a length and Raina does a Miller, in his arc and it's outside the park, six more

16.3

I Sharma to Raina, FOUR, this is amazing batting, added to some poor bowling, it was a full-toss this time, on the off stump and easily patted over the extra-cover region for a four, good shot-making off some poor bowling

16.4

I Sharma to Raina, FOUR, wow, he's continuing to play those strokes like he's got nothing to lose, on a length and he stands tall, and hits it on the up and over the extra-cover region, inside-out again!

16.5

I Sharma to Raina, FOUR, this is a bouncer attempted, for a change I may add, but I should also say that the result does not change, the ball does not rise too much and it's easily pulled away over the in-field for a four

16.6

I Sharma to Raina, 1 run, finally gets one right, it's fuller outside the off and they get only a single to long-off

End of over 17 (25 runs) Chennai Super Kings 177/1 (RR: 10.41)

    • SK Raina 74 (42b 8x4 2x6)
    • MEK Hussey 67 (41b 5x4 4x6)
    • I Sharma 4-0-66-0
    • A Mishra 4-0-41-0

Perera is on now.

66 already by Ishant in his four. 25 in his last over. Understatement to state that he was off the mark tonight.

Bhagyesh: "Ishant gone past Dinada's 4-0-63-0. Worst ever @ipl" Wonder what's the worst ever in T20 cricket.

17.1

Perera to Raina, 1 run, full-toss on his pads and he's lucky the batsman can only get it to short fine-leg, straight to the fielder

17.2

Perera to Hussey, OUT, bowled him, that's the line, that's the length and that's the wicket! it was very full but slight swing back into the batsman, he was looking to play it over the leg side but fails to get under it, it sneaks through to hit the leg-stump, which lies flat now

MEK Hussey b Perera 67 (90m 42b 5x4 4x6) SR: 159.52

Dhoni comes in at four.

Ashok: "@Bhagyesh- Worst over in IPL must be the 30 run over bowled by Parameshwaran of the erstwhile Kochi Tuskers team."

17.3

Perera to Dhoni, (no ball) 2 runs, full-toss and that's dropped! Sitter! Dale Steyn! he was looking to pull it away and gets the top-edge of the bat, goes high to the left of the fielder and he drops it, called a no-ball for the height, so wouldn't have mattered

17.3

Perera to Dhoni, 2 runs, another full-toss and he wants to flick it over the leg side, gets an outside edge for a couple

17.4

Perera to Dhoni, OUT, and now he's gone is Dhoni, another full-toss and he seems to have hit it well, but Karan Sharma is on the boundary at deep mid-wicket and he judges it rather well while on the run back, takes the catch and the captain's walking back

MS Dhoni c KV Sharma b Perera 4 (3m 3b 0x4 0x6) SR: 133.33

17.5

Perera to Raina, FOUR, another full-toss, and this time Raina is able to find the gap on the leg side, flicked away through to the deep square-leg fence for a four

Hitesh: "@Suneer, the worst ever is 81 runs conceded by Sarmad Anwar from Sialkot Stallions"

17.6

Perera to Raina, SIX, whatever's happened to Perera, he continues to bowl those full-tosses and while off a couple he's got wickets, the others have been dispatched away by Raina, looks like he's waltzing towards another century here

End of over 18 (16 runs) Chennai Super Kings 193/3 (RR: 10.72)

    • SK Raina 85 (45b 9x4 3x6)
    • RA Jadeja 0 (0b)
    • NLTC Perera 4-0-45-3
    • I Sharma 4-0-66-0

Ashif and many others: "Samrad Anwar : 4-0-81-0 vs Lahore Lions"

18.1

Steyn to Jadeja, no run, outside the off stump, really quick and he was giving himself room, trying to cut, does not get close to the edge of the bat, through to the keeper

18.2

Steyn to Jadeja, FOUR, slows the pace down and now Jadeja joins in the fun, it was shorter in length and cut away through backward point and to the fence

Ravi B: "Parameshwaran conceded 37 runs in that over to Gayle. Could have conceded 43 had Gayle connected the 7th ball."

18.3

Steyn to Jadeja, FOUR, wow, even Steyn's been taken for runs this over, this is shorter in length and that's cut away through that same backward point area for another boundary

18.4

Steyn to Jadeja, 1 run, too much width yet again but Jadeja only cuts it through to third-man for a single

Raina on 85 from 45.

18.5

Steyn to Raina, no run, slows down the pace and shortens it, he was looking to play that favourite shot over extra-cover, beats the shot with the change of pace and it rolls back to the bowler

18.6

Steyn to Raina, 1 run, fuller, width and gets an outside edge through to third-man for a single which means that Raina gets the strike

End of over 19 (10 runs) Chennai Super Kings 203/3 (RR: 10.68)

    • SK Raina 86 (47b 9x4 3x6)
    • RA Jadeja 9 (4b 2x4)
    • DW Steyn 4-1-17-0
    • NLTC Perera 4-0-45-3

Sammy will bowl the final over of the innings. He's bowled only one so far.

19.1

Sammy to Raina, FOUR, it starts as was expected, shorter in length, very slow too and easily pulled away to the leg side for a four

19.2

Sammy to Raina, 1 wide, shorter in length, wide outside the off stump and that's called wide too, poor delivery

19.2

Sammy to Raina, 2 runs, up and over yet again but this is hit squarer this time and it was going away to the fence yet again, Vihari gets his hand out to the right and stops it, gets a couple

19.3

Sammy to Raina, 1 run, fuller on the off stump and drives it straight to extra-cover which gets him a single

19.4

Sammy to Jadeja, FOUR, very full and on the off stump, that's drilled down the ground, easily beats the long-off fielder for a four

19.5

Sammy to Jadeja, 1 run, goes down the track and cuts it through to deep point for a single to get Raina back on strike

93 for Raina, one ball remaining.

19.6

Sammy to Raina, (no ball) 2 runs, that' very full and driven through to extra-cover for a single, no wait, they are coming back for the second and there's a run-out appeal now, and to add to it, he's also bowled a no-ball! Raina's in and that means he moves to 95, he's got a Free-Hit and more vitally an extra ball to get to a century, replays show it was a marginal call

19.6

Sammy to Raina, FOUR, full-toss and whiles spanked it over the extra-cover fielder for a four, he misses his century by a single, still an excellent innings and a trademark shot to end it too!

Phew, that took a lot out of me but I think it would have taken a lot more out of Raina, who scored 99 from only 52 balls. Unlucky not to get to a second century given the class associated with that knock (as far as T20 cricket is concerned). Hussey's half-century wins him the Orange Cap for the time-being while Murali Vijay's three sixes off successive balls are almost forgotten in the mayhem that followed. Back in 10 with what will be a stiff ask.

Abhishek: "Raina becomes first player in IPL to score 98, 99 & 100..."

End of over 20 (20 runs) Chennai Super Kings 223/3
