Pune Warriors won by 38 runs
19 May 2013 - day/night match (20-over match)

Change in the batting order then, Mahela Jayawardene with Dave Warner this time. Wayne Parnell will take up the new ball.

Spaurabh : "@Thushantha, I dont think comparing him with Dinda or parnell would help(that is not the bechmark you want to set while comparing) He hasnt delivered, besides all the talent he possess."

0.1

Parnell to Jayawardene, 5 wides, on the leg-stump and that's swung down further for a wide, fumbled by the keeper, and it's gone for five wides

0.1

Parnell to Jayawardene, 1 run, on the leg stump line again and bit of swing too, tapped to fine-leg for a single

0.2

Parnell to Warner, 1 wide, wide outside the off stump and not too much of swing, just a straighter ball but too wide and called one

0.2

Parnell to Warner, 1 run, gets his line right now, back to bowling the middle stump line and gets an inside edge through to fine-leg for a single

0.3

Parnell to Jayawardene, FOUR, good, good, shot, just caressed from the middle stump and through mid-wicket for a four, it was not hit too hard but times it rather well

0.4

Parnell to Jayawardene, no run, length ball, pulls it back this time and he taps it to mid-wicket this time

0.5

Parnell to Jayawardene, no run, ooh, swing back and probably the first time he gets his line right, swinging back and hitting it on the leg-stump line, misses the bat, hits the pad but swinging down

0.6

Parnell to Jayawardene, no run, shorter in length and outside the off, MJ did not know whether it would swing back in or go away and that hesitation beats him, misses the edge through to the keeper

End of over 1 (12 runs) Delhi Daredevils 12/0 (161 runs required from 19 overs, RR: 12.00, RRR: 8.47)

Bhuvneshwar to share the new ball.

1.1

Kumar to Warner, no run, edged and dropped! that was a difficult one to Finch at the first slip, low down on his right, almost exactly like how he got out against Punjab, this time it's floored

1.2

Kumar to Warner, no run, on his pads and tapped back towards the direction of the bowler

1.3

Kumar to Warner, 1 run, that's right up to the bat yet again, gets an outside edge through to the third-man region for a single

1.4

Kumar to Jayawardene, no run, shoulders arms to the one that's outside the off stump and swinging away from the bat

1.5

Kumar to Jayawardene, FOUR, and now he goes down the track and manages to chip it over mid-off, not quite off the middle of the bat but gets enough on it to get it to the fence

1.6

Kumar to Jayawardene, no run, good ball that, on a length and swinging back to the batsman, defended back to the bowler

End of over 2 (5 runs) Delhi Daredevils 17/0 (156 runs required from 18 overs, RR: 8.50, RRR: 8.66)

    • B Kumar 1-0-5-0
    • WD Parnell 1-0-12-0
2.1

Parnell to Warner, OUT, gone, caught-behind! short of length and he wants to pull it away, there's an appeal for a caught-behind and it's been given out! Warner's not too happy about it but replays suggest there's some bottom edge on it.

DA Warner c †Uthappa b Parnell 2 (10m 5b 0x4 0x6) SR: 40.00

Bharat Chipli comes in at three.

Sandeep: "PWI home wins 1/7, DD away wins 0/7. Now this is called "clash of the titans""

2.2

Parnell to Chipli, 1 no ball, swinging down the leg side for a wide, but before that he's over-stepped too and that means that's a no-ball, which will be followed by a Free-Hit

2.2

Parnell to Chipli, SIX, short of length from WP and that's cracked over deep square-leg for a six! Makes the Free-Hit pay but not the best of lengths he will bowl off a Free-Hit

2.3

Parnell to Chipli, 4 leg byes, and now it's rushed away to fine-leg for a four, there's been some swing all the way through today but Parnell keeps missing his line, gets it on his pads and that's flicked away to the fence

2.4

Parnell to Chipli, 1 run, edged and dropped again? it was outside the off and this time its Mathews who's tipped it above the bar, difficult chance

2.5

Parnell to Jayawardene, FOUR, length ball, on the middle stump and swinging further down the leg side, easily glances away through to fine-leg for a four

2.6

Parnell to Jayawardene, no run, gets the radar right, on the off stump and bit of movement back into the batsman, defended back to the bowler

End of over 3 (16 runs) Delhi Daredevils 33/1 (140 runs required from 17 overs, RR: 11.00, RRR: 8.23)

    • DPMD Jayawardene 13 (10b 3x4)

Dinda to bowl the fourth. Will be desperate for a good game.

3.1

Dinda to Chipli, no run, length ball outside the off, swinging a bit away and defended back to the bowler

3.2

Dinda to Chipli, no run, shortens his length but the line remains outside the off stump, keeps a tad low too and the pull shot goes to the mid-wicket fielder

3.3

Dinda to Chipli, FOUR, and that's been cracked through the covers for a four, short of length and smacked on the up, beats the fielder with some ease

Nikhil: "WP ( Wayne Parnell ) is giving away lot of extras With Pleasure, is he being complacent of the sides good batting show?"

3.4

Dinda to Chipli, no run, closer to the off stump and there's a lot of bounce on that one, it was a slower one too and still rises too much for him, beats the outside edge

3.5

Dinda to Chipli, no run, slows it down yet again, on the middle stump and pushed to the off side

3.6

Dinda to Chipli, no run, short of length outside the off stump, quicker this time and he wants to pull it away, there's bit of swing away from the bat and that's beaten him

End of over 4 (4 runs) Delhi Daredevils 37/1 (136 runs required from 16 overs, RR: 9.25, RRR: 8.50)

    • B Chipli 11 (10b 1x4 1x6)

SD: "The way Stuart Broad is bowling at the Lord's now makes me think he could be an asset in the IPL (provided he bowls full). Other than Dale Steyn, no one bowler has really lit up the competition this year, not even Malinga or Johnson, despite having bowled devastating spells. Broad at his best, like Steyn, is a sight to behold, I believe." A five-wicket haul for him here.

4.1

Murtaza to Jayawardene, 1 run, shorter in length and tapped to the leg side for a single, there was a quick throw coming in and could have been close had that hit...replays suggest that was out had it hit

4.2

Murtaza to Chipli, no run, round the stumps and a bit fuller, hit to the leg side for a single

4.3

Murtaza to Chipli, 1 wide, outside the off stump, very wide but inside the line, given wide though

4.3

MrGarreth: "What an unhappy fella Warner has been of late. Losing the plot a bit with those Tweets"

4.4

Murtaza to Jayawardene, no run, stumping missed, tough one, the batsman yorked himself there, missed the bat and the keeper's missed it too

4.5

Murtaza to Jayawardene, OUT, whoa, he lasts exactly one extra ball after that missed stumping, it was a widish delivery outside the off, had it left it alone it would have been called so, the batsman wanted to get his bat out there and can only loop it straight to point, gone!

James: "@SD: Havent you watched much of the Royals this season? Faulkner has been superb and has the purple cap despite playing only 14 games."

5.1

Kumar to Chipli, 1 run, middle stump line and fuller too, tapped to Yuvraj at mid-on who fields well and gets his throw in at the non-strikers end, the batsman was way out but the ball never hit the stumps

5.2

Kumar to Sehwag, FOUR, short of length outside the off stump, not too much width on it and he still throws his bat at it, gets it through to deep cover for a four

6.1

Yuvraj Singh to Chipli, 1 run, pitches right up to the bat from round the stumps, tapped it down to long-off for a single

6.2

7.2

Murtaza to Sehwag, OUT, gone, caught at deep covers! he was looking to play it inside out, probably over wide long-off but he manages to slice it more than he was looking for and it goes straight to deep cover and he's gone!

Time-out time. 111 runs needed off 11. Dinda with the ball.

SD: "@James: You could argue that one or more of Dwayne Bravo, Kevon Cooper or even Mohit Sharma has/have been fantastic with the ball this season, but what I mean to say is that Broad can be quite spectacular and a game - changer, when he is at his best. I don't exactly think any of these bowlers are quite that spectacular, if you know what I mean. Surely not like Steyn, Malinga or Johnson. Speaking of the relationship between Yuvi and him, we know that Broad has dismissed Yuvi quite a few times across all formats of the game. I remember how Yuvi's wicket once inspired a devastating and eventually match winning hat trick from him."

CpTeja: "@Vyom 7-8 Players are too much...I like the proposal of having 1-2 overseas and 2-3 domestic players for retention. This allows the franchises to hold onto their "heart" but also allows them to redefine their image if they want to(like delhi, pune etc)"

That's been a rather comprehensive win for Pune, their fourth victory to end the season at the penultimate position. Who is last then? It's the team that lost by 38 runs today, the Delhi Daredevils. Both teams have been under-par this season, Delhi a tad more than Pune.

Presentation:

Jayawardene: Tough day at the office for us, sums up the season. They played better cricket on this wicket. Rough season for us but need to move on.

Finch: Very happy with the way it ended. Disappointed we haven't been able to do it more often. Crowd has been good throughout the season.

Luke Wright is the man of the match: Very nice to finish on a high. Different track from what I am used to at home but this one was a better one.

End of over 20 (6 runs) Delhi Daredevils 134/9 (39 runs required)

    • UT Yadav 8 (9b)
    • S Kaul 0 (0b)
