In Test Shami not bowled well compare to Ishant is better. So that Dhoni chooses Ishant. I would like to say they take another one fast bowler Umesh or Ishwar pandey. I think for next test he left Shami and Jadeja then choose Umesh and Ishwar.

@sagsaw- Murali Vijay played much better in SA than Dhawan or Rohit. Also most of IPL and CLT20 matches are going to happen in India. When totally out of form Sehwag and Yuvraj Singh can set themselves so much baseprice, why not Vijay who has outplayed them both so far in IPL?

Who fixes the reserve price ? The player himself or a committee ?

  • POSTED BY EashwarSai on | February 7, 2014, 6:57 GMT

Teams should be careful not to pick too many foreign players as this does nothing but cause selection problems. Classic case being that of RCB. They were so pre occupied with picking who among Murali and Vettori , that they often failed to pick a 11 with the right domestic players. Huge reason for them not making the playoffs the last 2 years despite having Chris Gayle.

  • POSTED BY EashwarSai on | February 7, 2014, 6:53 GMT

Considering how poor India have been in tests and odis away from home, why does the BCCI not think of having a longer IPL? Time to dispense with these useless international tours. A longer IPL will also make the franchises to turn a profit. It's clear that the Indian public will soon be sick of seeing India lose and would rather watch the IPL where an Indian team is certain to win.

  • POSTED BY Siva_Bala75 on | February 7, 2014, 5:39 GMT

Some one like Hafeez will be a hot pick for any team. then you have four or five world class bowlers. Sadly, Pakistan is excluded. I will think this is more a political decision than something to blame BCCI.

After studying this list, 2 Players stand out at great Value, Muirhead leg spinner who rips the ball more than any current bowler and at 20 thats some skill, will love Indian pitches. Tim Paine one of the Best Wicket keeper Batsman around, who bats with technic, not a slogger, scores quick and bats any where asked of him, plus side he is a leader. At under 5mill reserve price, best deals at this auction

  • POSTED BY on | February 7, 2014, 4:19 GMT

@leleraja, MI CSK & RR already have 3 to 4 Marquee player.... and based on previous auction exp one indian marquee player can easily sold around 10cr rupees, so MI CSK & RR always have adventage by retaining 5 players instead of purchasing them feom auction.

  • POSTED BY jonesy2 on | February 7, 2014, 4:08 GMT

  • POSTED BY on | February 7, 2014, 3:39 GMT

CSK and MI spent almost all the money therefore they will be totally curtailed in getting any more quality player if they want to have. Therefore the fight will be with other Franchises only. For CSK I want them to go for 1. Vijay 2. Badri 3. Dinesh Karthik, 4. Balaji 5. M. Rangarajan 6. Yo Mahesh 7. Rishi Dhawan 8. Ishwar Pandey 9. Aniruddha Srikkanth 10. Sachin Baby 11. Baba Aparajith 12. Shadab Jakathi 13. Mohit Sharma and 14. Rajagopal Sathish from Indian Group. 1. Bollinger 2. Morne Morkel 3. Chris Miller 4. Santokie 5. Jerome Taylor/Fidel Edwards 6. Fau De Plesis 7. Michael Hussey and 8. Tim Southee. Since they have only 21 crores to spend, I doubt that they could bid for higher value.

India's strategy of keep Pakistan out of site like they do not exist in World Cricket is pure shame, its clear now that India will carry on avoiding Pakistan, but world knows Pakistan cricket is a real force and has, and will keep producing world's best cricketers in the country. Pakistan is power house of t-20 cricket, finalist in 2007, winners in 2009, semi finalist (whisker away to reached to the final) of 2010 and again semi finalist of 2012 t-20 world cup and yet again IPL will miss out some quality baters and bowlers from Pakistan, but never mind shame on BCCI.

  • POSTED BY gauravm5 on | February 6, 2014, 21:27 GMT

CSK should pick at least 7 overseas fast bowlers including all rounders, Bravo is already there in the team. CSK doesn't have too much money in their pocket so they cant go for big names but I wud like to see Starc, Hilfenhaus, Juan Theron, Kane Richardson, Azhar Mahmood, Holder and Albie Morkel in the CSK bowling stock. Starc could be an excellent strike bowler, good pace & more than useful in death overs. For Starc & Morkel, they need to pay big bucks but they can easily get Theron, Hilfenhaus, Kane Richardson and Azhar Mahmood at low prices. Theron & Kane Richardson are proven death overs bowlers in their domestic circuits. In case CSK fails to buy Albie Morkel then the best replacement for Albie could be Ben Cutting, who as an all-rounder is much much better than Chris Morris.

Hussey is must, but in his book he mentioned Gurunath as an owner of the CSK so it luks improbable that CSK wud bid for Michael Hussey. I think CSK's overseas batsmen could be George Bailey & Faf Du Plesis.

  • POSTED BY leleraja on | February 6, 2014, 18:00 GMT

Chennai, Mumbai & Rajasthan cannot afford any more marquee players. They have to chose 12 to 15 more (say) players spending only about 21 crores to have a reasonable bench strength. So they have to carefully play the 'Rights to Match' card to get not-so-marquee players (like Albie for CSK, Coulter-Nile for MI etc).

I feel Delhi will get the best of the marquee lot :)

  • POSTED BY android_user on | February 6, 2014, 17:48 GMT

I think George Bailey is best palyer available in the auction list because of his leadership skills & ofcourse his power hitting ability.I think small teams like punjab or RR should buy him & make him captain

  • POSTED BY on | February 6, 2014, 16:32 GMT

For some reason i don't see Jason Holder on the list guess he was cut and i thought he was a good bowler last season for CSK. I'm hoping one of these clubs also take sheldon cottrell and mold him has they do holder he is a raw talent and with this exposure will go great for experience and bowling with more control and not only about raw pace. Santokie will be a steal for the club who scoop him up as he will be very good and remember you heard it first he's going to be very successful in this league if given a chance. The IPl is the stage for young unidentified talent to breakthrough and hoping that teams will give young players the chance but with the restrictions it going to be tight. It should be designated that young international talent should be also chosen. INDIA if you want to rule the cricket world you have to show your willing to develop talent within your league and not just that of your own.

  • POSTED BY on | February 6, 2014, 16:30 GMT

Many Afghani Fans are disappointed I think. Their players should take it step by step to get into IPL. They should try to get into other leagues like BBL etc. Sorry Bro! That is reality.

  • POSTED BY GoCho on | February 6, 2014, 16:05 GMT

I am astounded that Ishant Sharma is not in the marquee list! Definitely DFL or Pepsi or whoever sponsors the sixes in IPL should encourage teams to pay a lot of money for Ishant. That way the team is forced to play him and spectators are happy!

  • POSTED BY gauravm5 on | February 6, 2014, 15:46 GMT

Why Ishant Sharma, who once proclaimed himself as Indian bowling spearhead, is not in the marquee players list? How could BCCI treat him so badly? how could BCCI ignore the fact that IShant is BEST FAST BOWLER India has ever produced.

For Ishant, 98% of the world pitches are flat and whenever he gets opportunity to bowl on bowler friendly pitches (2%), he backs his poor performance with the statements like:: "it was one of the bad days for me, that can happen to any cricketer"......"Indian batsmen didn't put enough runs on the board thats why we failed to put pressure on the opposition batsmen"...."my job was to contain the runs".

Sixteen marquee players in final IPL auction list

ESPNcricinfo staff
  shares

Virender Sehwag, Kevin Pietersen, Jacques Kallis and Yuvraj Singh are among the 16 marquee players who will be the first set of players to go under the hammer in the IPL auction to be held in Bangalore on February 12 and 13. The marquee players' list, which has been split into two sets of eight names each, also includes Mahela Jayawardene, Mitchell Johnson, M Vijay, David Warner, George Bailey, Faf du Plessis, Michael Hussey, Dinesh Karthik, Zaheer Khan, Brendon McCullum, Amit Mishra and Darren Sammy.

The final list has been trimmed to 514 from the original 895 names. There are 219 capped players in addition to 295 uncapped players. There are 30 players listed at the maximum base price of Rs 2 crore (US $320,000 approximately) which includes 11 Indians. Australia fast bowler James Pattinson, who was in the original list of players with a base price of Rs 2 crore, is not there in the updated list. This will also be the first time the auction will be carried out in Indian rupees.

In addition to the marquee groups, players have been split into various categories according to their specialistation: batsman, fast bowler, spinner, allrounder, wicketkeeper.

It is likely that the uncapped players will be auctioned on the second day considering the volume of players on the list. This is the first time uncapped players will feature in the auction. In the past the absence of uncapped players in the auction was a controversial topic, with many franchises complaining of horse trading by their richer rivals who, it was alleged, were luring players with under-the-table deals. With the IPL restricting the squad strength to 27 this year, including a cap of nine overseas players, the franchises have been forced to lay more emphasis on domestic Indian players.
