Big Picture

First points are always good. But just a day after registering their first win in this IPL, Sunrisers Hyderabad are faced with the worrying prospect of facing a red-hot Chennai Super Kings machinery that, just like every season, is steam-rolling other teams into submission. Sunrisers' top three clicked for the first time in the match against Delhi Daredevils, bettering their previous-best total of this season by 51 runs, but life is not likely to be as comfortable against the yellows.

Shikhar Dhawan, Aaron Finch and David Warner, all got vital runs to boost their confidence but there were extended periods in the match against Daredevils when they looked short on fluency. The good news for Sunrisers is that they rode those spells as how the three perform against the impressive trio of Super Kings seamers and their steady spinners is going to be critical for them.

More important perhaps is going to be how Sunrisers' bowlers deal with Super Kings' batsmen. The sight of Dwayne Smith and Brendon McCullum can send sepulchral chill waves among bowlers early, so a lot will depend on if Dale Steyn raises his game a notch. Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been impressive and can draw on the success he had against Smith in the recent World T20 match. Big efforts will also be needed from their stars from last season - legspinners Amit Mishra and Karn Sharma.

Super Kings, on the other hand, are a confident bunch. Their batting is firing, their bowling doesn't have any weaknesses their fielding remains one of the best in the tournament and they have never lost a game to Sunrisers. They just need to ensure no complacency sets in.

Watch out for

Amit Mishra spun an un-breachable web around batsmen during the recent Asia Cup and in the first round of matches in the World T20, fuelling questions about why he was not regular in the national side in the first place. But after overstepping once during the semi-final against South Africa, something has gone amiss. He is not able to control the flow of runs. He went wicketless against Daredevils and was torn apart in the match before that too. It's a big game now and Dhawan needs his trump card to find his mojo again.

Faf du Plessis is the only Super Kings batsman in top four not to score a half-century till now. But apart from one match - against Rajasthan Royals - the lack of runs from his bat hasn't really affected the team as the openers have been brilliant. There is no immediate threat to his place in the team - MS Dhoni likes to stick to his XI - but du Plessis needs some runs to fortify the team's batting further.

Stats and trivia

  • Amit Mishra is one short of becoming the only second bowler in the IPL to collect 100 wickets. The only other bowler to do so is Lasith Malinga
  • Chennai Super Kings have picked up 30 wickets, the most this season. Royal Challengers Bangalore are second, with 20 wickets.

In india Aparajith should come in for Manhas. His off spin will be useful. Hilf/Badree can swap according to the pitch conditions. Otherwise csk team is settled. For todays match, should get Finch and Warner early. They both can do a Maxwell on their day and win the match single handedly.

  • on April 27, 2014, 9:13 GMT

If CSK make this one Lil change before the tournament moves to India, it will become the most invincible team ever played club cricket. Just bring in Baba Aparajith in for Mithun Manhas then feel the invincibility.

  • ravin_cricluv on April 27, 2014, 8:54 GMT

chennai, lets win the last match played in UAE.

  • ramprabhakar on April 27, 2014, 8:29 GMT

It's time for CSK to give Baba Aparajith a chance before IPL moves to India. He should come in place of Mithun Manhas. Baba can bowl to and his off spinner will be handy when other bowlers go for runs..

  • on April 27, 2014, 8:22 GMT

CSK get fumble with the bat rarely..may be this pitch will allow them to slow down like Dubai..but anyhow they will built the momentum through their field and bowling accuracy..

  • D-Coach on April 27, 2014, 7:47 GMT

Missing D.Bravo is affected CSK balance. MS.Dhoni trying all the death bowling options just to bring in S.Badri. I don't see something special in Badree to be in number 1 bowler on delivery but seems keep all simple as read the batsmen mind and delivers in reverse. Faf needs to be bang with fluency in batting. CSK didn't lost a game simply to G.Maxwell but including negative approach due to D.Bravo where no option for plan C. All the best for both teams to have competitive game.

  • on April 27, 2014, 7:25 GMT

My team for csk Brendan smith Raina du plessis dhoni jadeja manhas ashwin Badree pandey mahit

Leave hilfenhaus because he gave too many runs

  • on April 27, 2014, 7:21 GMT

SRH, will start as an underdog against Titan CSK, and this time SRH has some powerful arsenal in the top order to fire. Just Finch, Warner and Dhawan, if these three get early, then match is with CSK.

  • on April 27, 2014, 7:20 GMT

bring baba in for manhas. give a chance to Henry. bring rasool for rao. rahul should play he got very good talent he has the ability to build the innings.

  • on April 27, 2014, 5:51 GMT

    SRH XI should be:

Dhawan, finch, KL rahul, Moises, Venugopal, sammy, rasool, karan, amit, styne, Bhuvi

with this team you have 7 bowing options(2 leggies, 1 off break, 3 fast bowler and sammy) KL rahul helps to build the score others can score at higher strike rate

Dropping warner will have a team balance.

  • Riddymon on April 27, 2014, 5:46 GMT

Sunrisers batting is letting them down again this tournament which is a depressing because they're batting line up is much better than last year. Hoping for good things for this game tomorrow..if the top order can put on some runs....guys like Sammy will be more comfortable with their stroke play and they can guarantee a good score on the board if they bat first or a comfortable chase. Let go SUNRISERS!!!

  • varada59 on April 27, 2014, 4:49 GMT

The only way SRH can win this match is to bat first and put on 185 runs. CSK with its accurate bowlers and good fielding can defend even small totals.

  • chikkubukku on April 27, 2014, 3:47 GMT

The balance that CSK possess as a team is the one that sets it apart from other teams. SRH depends heavily on Finch and Warner for batting and expect some other batsman to click. A weak batting line up and decent bowling attack against the best team in terms of balance, the odds are definitely against SRH. If at all Hyderabad aim to win this match, it will be Steyn & Co. to ensure that. But then, if the match against Delhi was an indication there is a problem there also.

Best wishes to both the teams.

  • Samychennai on April 27, 2014, 0:47 GMT

There is no team for contention against mighty SuperKings except Kings11 Punjab. That one also SuperKings played as testing squad and removed errors immediately. If Chennai meet Kings-11 Punjab again, they will tear for sure.

So, all team just waiting for the chance when lion is going to sleep.

  • on April 26, 2014, 22:36 GMT

CSK with the most wickets till now....and they said that their bowling looked weak at the the start of the season.

  • on April 26, 2014, 22:10 GMT

Sunrisers have a good team on paper but they lack when it comes to middle order. My playing XI would be Finch, Dhawan, Warner, Ojha, Sammy, Rao, Rasool, Karn, Mishra, Steyn, Bhuvi. With Rasool they have an advantage of off spinner considering the form of Raina. He has scored crucial runs in the domestic t20 format and if given chance might prove his presence like Tambe and Chahal. Batting order as mentioned. Sammy should come up the order in order to face enough balls, he can sure be destructive. Let's go #OrangeArmy

  • ravin_cricluv on April 26, 2014, 21:28 GMT

good thing about csk is,its winning matches without bravo ,without badree, without Faf's form ,without Indian(spin friendly) pitches.wonder what would happen when the gun is fully loaded.hope to see punjab in final posting 200 and chased by csk

  • ramz30380 on April 26, 2014, 20:13 GMT

A test of the best batting side and the best bowling side of the tournament! CSK start as favorties. SRH can give Anirudha a go as he was with the CSK team for 6 yrs before and knows them in and out! He is a free hitting bat like his dad, and probably can give a diff dimension to their batting order. Also he is a decent fielder....

  • on April 26, 2014, 19:49 GMT

the BEST team for SRH would be

    dhawan//finch//taylor//sammy//n ojha//pathan//rasool//mishra//karn//bhuvi//steyn

it will be good to see henriques if given a chance and let go finch

  • NikSaid on April 26, 2014, 19:21 GMT

Irfan is a must in any IPL. He is much better than Venugopal Rao/Rasool/Rahul/Ishant. Just use him wisely.

  • on April 26, 2014, 18:27 GMT

Sunrisers middle order is weak....they should have bought one or two good International Indian batsman in the auction rather than spending for Irfan,Rasool and Ishant. All these 3 will be in bench.

Bring back Manpreet Juneja,Naman Ojha and Anirudha.

Drop Venu and Rahul. They are given a chance but found not effective.

  • kc69 on April 26, 2014, 17:38 GMT

SRH should give a try by including Pervez Rasool instead of Rahul and same team as it was in previous match because Rasool is good with bat as well as give an specialist offspinner option to bowl along with any or both leggies while Sammy being promoted to bat at #4.However I might believe toss being crucial as CSK is a good chasing side and would be tested if put in to bat first.

  • on April 26, 2014, 17:04 GMT

if superkings play like superkings then there is no bowling attacks to beat them. lions will roar

  • ladycricfan on April 26, 2014, 16:33 GMT

With Amit mishra and Karn Sharma in the squad, SRH should not have acquired Rasool as well. His talent is wasted on the bench.

  • ramz30380 on April 26, 2014, 16:25 GMT

@ Rapid Chase - Are u sure tht SRH's bowling will become stronger by adding Ishant?! That will be the worst mistake if they do tht! SRH has the best bowling attack of this IPL, I dont think they shud tamper with their bowling - probably the same playing XI will be best suited for this match too. Any team needs to play on its strength and not on the opposition's weakness!

  • on April 26, 2014, 15:44 GMT

I just want one change in Sun Risers. Sammy power batting is not used till now, he should come next to Warner to make use of last 8 to 10 overs effectively. Ishanth Sharma should be in, in place of Rahul to make bowling little stronger for inform Super Kings.

  • on April 26, 2014, 14:11 GMT

hope Parvez Rasool is included in playing 11. he besides an off spinner will contribute with bat as well.

  • on April 26, 2014, 13:32 GMT

Capable batting till 9. 4 seam bowlers with 3 full-time spinners. Top 3 now finding form, 2 finishers in Pathan and Sammy. Hence, this is the best possible team for SRH in this IPL and beating the most consistent team, the Chennai Super Kings. Go SRH!
