The forgotten star

Sunil Narine had taken 92 wickets in 64 matches at an economy rate of 5.88 for Kolkata Knight Riders, but was forced to miss the first two games after the death of his father. Considering Knight Riders' bowling issues in their last game against Mumbai Indians, it seemed natural for captain Gautam Gambhir to be desperate to have him back. However, when asked about Knight Riders' changes at the toss, Gambhir forgot about Narine's inclusion, eliciting laughter from everyone involved.

Morkel's transgression

Morne Morkel made the perfect start to his first T20 game since August 2015. He hustled David Warner, who has been Sunrisers' best batsman in recent times, with a back-of-a-length delivery, enforcing a miscued pull. It settled in Piyush Chawla's hands, at square leg, after a juggle. However, Morkel's eagerness for a hard length may have cost him as replays showed he had overstepped. Warner was reprieved on a ground where he averaged 63.10 in T20s, before this game.

The catch and release

Andre Russell's athletic prowess in the field, as was evident in the 18th over of the first innings, has left many in awe. Naman Ojha, batting on 37, lofted one towards the long-on boundary. It looked set to soar over but Russell didn't think so. He covered plenty of ground, stuck out his left hand and held on. His momentum took him over the boundary, but not before he lobbed the ball back to Piyush Chawla, who was rushing towards the ball from long-off. Chawla stretched out, juggled, and latched on.

Mustafizur's lethal weapon

Mustafizur Rahman has a few variations, and he brought out his best to pick up his third IPL wicket. Bowling to Andre Russell, promoted to No. 3 with Knight Riders cruising, Mustafizur produced an inch-perfect yorker to hustle him. Russell hurried to get his feet out of the way, stumbling over in the process, and by the time he got his bat down, the ball had already uprooted the middle and leg stumps. With Knight Riders still needing 46, Sunrisers believed again.
