Tripathi, Rahane end Mumbai's six-match winning streak

A 76-run opening stand between Rahul Tripathi and Ajinkya Rahane helped Pune narrowly beat an inform Mumbai, by three runs, halting their six match winning streak in the Indian Twenty20 competition at Wankhede Stadium on Monday.

Having been beaten by Pune earlier in the tournament, Mumbai looked to avenge their loss in familiar home conditions. Given Mumbai's recent success while chasing, Rohit Sharma, had no hesitation in putting the opposition in to bat first. His seamers though found it difficult to dislodge Pune's openers, Tripathi and Rahane. With the ball coming on nicely, the duo found the boundary frequently. They guided Pune, with a patchy record in the tournament thus far, to 48 for 0 by the end of the Powerplay.

The Rahane-Tripathi combine smashed four fours and a six in the first five overs. When the seamers failed to make inroads, Sharma turned to his spinners for a breakthrough, however the openers stood firm and continued their attacking display. They eventually added 76 in 9.2 overs that they batted together, falling just two short of their team's best opening stand. Rahane fell first for a 32-ball 38 and Tripathi followed with a 31-ball 45.
