Profile

The son of Niranjan Shah, the former BCCI secretary, Jaydev has the distinction of captaining Saurashtra to victory in the 2007-08 Ranji one-dayers, incidentally the team's first ever national-level title. The win capped an impressive season for Saurashtra; they had earlier reached the semi-final of the Ranji Trophy, a feat they would go on to repeat in 2008-09 too. Though yet to blaze as a middle-order batsman, as his average in the late 20s suggests, his leadership skills convinced the selectors to name him captain of a select Indian squad for a short tour of Israel.
