time for the final drinks of the day

14.1

14.2

Johnson to Sehwag, no run, yorker tried, meets Sehwag's open face, and goes towards gully. Well bowled, well played

14.3

14.4

Johnson to Sehwag, no run, almost played on, looks to open the face of the bat for that same gap between slips and gully, but this is very close to off stump, it's under edged and bounces over the stumps

14.5

Johnson to Sehwag, no run, full, in Sehwag's zone, he looks to bludgeon it, but can't pierce the field; mid-off does the fielding

14.6

15.5

Watson to Gambhir, no run, wide, angling away, and left alone

15.6

Watson to Gambhir, no run, pitches in his own half, looking for some bounce, but gets none. Haddin collects it ankle-high

End of over 16 (1 run) India 58/0

Johnson to Sehwag, 1 run, wide, angling away, driven with an open face to sweeper cover

16.5

Johnson to Gambhir, 1 run, angling in to the pads, and worked away towards fine leg

16.6

Johnson to Sehwag, FOUR, Phew! this one didn't deserve to go for a four, this was pretty accurate, maybe just outside off, on a length, Sehwag opens the face at the last moment and finds the gap between the two gullies

End of over 17 (10 runs) India 68/0

17.2

Watson to Gambhir, no run, left alone again, but this one was much closer

The thirdman area is presently bleeding runs for Australia, with both the batsmen having found a liking for opening the face of the bat and finding the gap between slip and gully

Meanwhile there's a hold-up in the play, with the cloth covering on advertisement hoardings in front of sightscreen flying away

17.3

Watson to Gambhir, no run, full on off stump, driven down to mid-off

4.32pm local And the impending rain has reached the stadium in full force. It is really heavy and the covers are on. Everyone is going off. There are 9.5 overs to go in the day. Play can be extended till 5pm local. This shower is unlikely to go away and the damage has been caused.

That should be it for today. An engrossing day's cricket, highlighted by a great hundred from Michael Hussey, his ninth in Tests and his second outside Australia, and some top pace bowling from Ishant Sharma and Zaheer Khan. Ishant took out three wickets today and Zaheer followed up with a five-wicket haul.

Australia put up a very good total of 430 on a good batting track. India have chipped away 68 of those courtesy a solid opening stand. The Delhi boys, Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir, have looked good.

That is indeed stumps on day two, folks. Its been a pleasure as always to bring you the live ball-by-ball commentary. Thanks for all your feedback emails, and apologies for not publishing all of them. I can ensure you that each of them has been read. Lots of good stuff in there.

Do come back and see us tomorrow morning, when we will bring you the third day's action from the Chinnaswamy Stadium from 9.30am local time. Until then, this is Jamie Alter signing off. Good bye!

Welcome to day three from Bangalore. No rain in sight this morning, instead bright skies and good conditions for cricket in the subcontinent. A few cracks in the pitch could start acting up today, but still it remains predominantly a batting track.

I'm Jamie Alter, here to start off proceedings before Sidharth Monga takes over for the day.

The Australians are taking the field. India are 68 for 0. Sehwag and Gambhir take their places. There are five balls to go in Johnson's over. He was a bit erratic at times last evening. He marks his place. Sehwag to face.

18.2

Johnson to Sehwag, 1 run, back of a length and angled away through gully down to White at third man for a single

Two slips and a gully in place, by the way

18.3

Johnson to Gambhir, no run, on the mark, a good length, Gambhir's feet start working well on his first delivery and he defends positively

18.4

Johnson to Gambhir, no run, pacier delivery, short and angling away and he leaves

18.5

Johnson to Gambhir, no run, swings down sharply and past leg stump, 144ks, Gambhir cant touch it and Haddin pulls off a great dive to his right, really acrobatic stuff that

18.6

Johnson to Gambhir, 1 run, straighter one, clipped out to White at deep midwicket

So thats the first over of the day. Still Johnson searches for the right areas.

End of over 19 (2 runs) India 70/0

19.2

Lee to Gambhir, OUT, and he's nailed him second ball! A quick delivery, and very accurate, good length and swinging in from just outside off, good angle there from Lee, Gambhir shapes to work it away towards leg but is early into the shot, the ball straightens and traps him in front and Lee knows he's got his man ... and early success for Australia on day three and India lose their first wicket

G Gambhir lbw b Lee 21 (96m 61b 3x4 0x6) SR: 34.42

Rahul Dravid, with an average of 21 at his home ground, walks to the crease.

19.4

Lee to Dravid, no run, back of a length, too wide, and Dravid shoulders arms

19.5

Lee to Dravid, no run, fuller length, Lee searching for swing, there's but a hint of wobble off the pitch and Dravid plants his front foot out and shoulders arms

19.6

Lee to Dravid, no run, bit of room there and he pushes it to backward point

Successful first over from Lee, getting rid of Gambhir for cheap.

End of over 20 (wicket maiden) India 70/1

20.2

Johnson to Dravid, no run, back of a length on middle and off, much tidier, defended

20.3

Johnson to Dravid, no run, hello there! That one stays very low, pitching on a length and scooting under Dravid's bat as he feels for it outside off stump, dribbling then to Haddin

20.4

Johnson to Dravid, no run, fuller and wider and he can leave that alone all day

20.5

Johnson to Dravid, 1 run, edged but it doesn't carry to Hayden at first slip! It's lunch on day three. The first session has well and truly belonged to Australia. They got the dangerous opening partnership out, and then Tendulkar and Laxman for good measure. Only 65 runs were scored, and four important wickets taken. Mitchell Johnson has been the pick of the bowlers: quick, fast, and exploiting the variable bounce to its fullest. Join us in half an hour or so to see whether Ganguly and Dravid stage a comeback or Australia run through the Indian batting line-up.

Welcome back after the lunch. Australia hold all the aces, as we speak. Their bowlers are accurate, their fielders alert, and scoring is mighty difficult right now. Facing them are two men who started together 12 years ago, and have been under immense scrutiny for some time now.

Sourav Ganguly has already announced he will retire after this series, not without a controversial comment or two being attributed to him. And Rahul Dravid needs a big score badly. They have personal demons to fight, and also a Test match to save, which is fast moving out of their reach. The Aussies are not giving an inch; and if the two batsmen can bring out their best, this should be a fascinating session. This is Sidharth Monga, and Jamie Alter will keep making the odd cameo appearance through the day. The middle session starts in five minutes.
