Phil Damon: "It seems that Michael Clarke's scoring has stagnated somewhat. Is he tiring, showing signs of loss of concentration/frustration, as is wont to happen to batsmen in this situation? Or is he showing the patience and maturity that we have become accustomed to seeing from him in the last couple of years?" Phil, its the latter. He's really focused, defending with purpose but not hesitating to put the bad balls away. Top player, Clarke. There has also been a lot of outside-the-leg-stump stuff so he cannot score as freely.

164.6

Sehwag to Clarke, 2 runs, and there's his hundred to the last ball of the session! Clarke gets room and cuts the ball between cover and point and sets off in celebration, thats a hard-earned, committed century, dropped three times today, twice in the nineties, but no taking away from how well he's serves Australia's cause, and he's all smiles as he and Lee head inside for tea

So that is indeed tea on day four. This pitch has turned lifeless, and Australia have inched closer to safety. Clarke has played excellently, and found good support from White, who fell a short while ago for 44. Australia's session. Sehwag was the man for India, taking his fifth wicket to become the first player with two triple hundreds and a five-wicket haul. India's fielding was pretty poor, with two catches being dropped off Sehwag's bowling, allowing Clarke his eighth Test hundred. It has been a treat to watch him bat.

Do join me shortly for the final session.

Stevie Bryan: "The only good to come out from this pitch is that over-rate has been good because spinners have bowled most of the time. And very little time has been spent in batsmen getting out and new ones coming in."

MJ Clarke c Khan b Mishra 112 (357m 253b 6x4 1x6) SR: 44.26

End of an excellent innings from Clarke, irrespective of the three dropped catches today, once in the first half hour and two in the 90s, because you take what you get. 179.3

Kumble to Johnson, OUT, chuck that, says Kumble, I'll take it! Kumble finishes the innings with a good return catch, running across towards the off side and taking it with both hands, despite the left one in pain, after Johnson swings a top-edged slog sweep miles up in the air

MG Johnson c & b Kumble 15 (22m 12b 2x4 0x6) SR: 125.00

So Australia finish on 577, trailing by just 36 runs. We have a little less then an hour and a half left in the day. A very strong first innings from Australia, with the top five all getting past 50. Clarke's hundred was the highlight of the day, helping Australia reach safety. India's catching was abysmal, and only Sehwag's maiden five-wicket haul will give them reason to smile. Kumble came into the act to take three wickets. This match is all but drawn, kudos to Australia for their efforts.

We'll have India's second innings shortly. Don't go away.
