Australia in India ODI Series - 5th ODI

India v Australia

Australia won by 3 runs

Toss Ponting has won and chosen to bat. Ponting: " The wicket looks pretty dry. Hopefully we won't get much dew tonight. We have struggled with the injuries but our cricket has been actually good considering that. We have 5 guys sent back but the guys coming in have put in honest performances. Clint McKay replaces Mitchell Johnson, Adam Voges for Henriques and Hilfenhaus for Siddle. "

Dhoni: "I would have batted first. One plus point here the pitch doesn't change much. Delhi game was the one game where dew came in, this part of the country it doesnt come. Now its a three-match series. Munaf replaces Ishant and Gambhir comes in for Virat Kohli."

So three changes for Australia and two for India.

Ravi Veeraswamy: "watch out for C Mckay.. as a thumb rule fast bowlers hv had a decent debut against India!"

Senthil Kumar: "i, Mitchell Johnson, who has been struggling of late should have been given a break a little earlier. Should we consider that he is dropped or rested?" I would say dropped and he deserved to be dropped. Pretty poor performances for quite a while now.

Gaurang Shah: "I am sure Clint McKay is going to have Sachins Wicket on his debut."

Ha! Right. SRT does have this uncanny knack of throwing his wicket to new comers eh. I saw McKay bowl in Champions League... he had one of the best slower ones in the business.

George: "What does Dirk Nannes have to do for a chance? I was so impressed with him throughout the ipl that i thought he was a certain bet to get a touring spot. And why do Australia have such a vendetta against Stuart Clark in the shorter forms of the game, he is a solid, economical, experienced bowler."

Ankit Dalal; "Facts: India played 2 matches on this ground & lost both. 7 runs needed for Sachin to complete 17000 runs in ODI. 25 needed for Ponting to reach 2000 runs against India, the most by any Australian. 76 needed by Dhoni to complete 5000 ODI runs."

Jimmy: "what about Simon Katich, the guy consistently makes runs in all forms of the game, can bat at any position but is continually recognised as just a test player."

Brenton Pappas: "In response to everyone calling for the likes of Clark and Nannes, they're not exactly the youngest players going around, and my guess is that Australia would rather inject some young faces into the team for the future and give them experience rather than have older players in the line up as a short term fix."

Ok See you in five minutes for the start of the game. Take a break.

Ankur: "speaking of unlucky batsmen, our Shakib-al-Hasan was left out without a buyer in IPL, though he is the BEST all-rounder in the world." Ah! Ankur, I was surprised when they picked Mortaza and not Shakib. Mortaza was struggling with injuries even at that stage and Shakib was coming along superbly. Anyway, lets see next year

5.5

Nehra to Marsh, no run, full in length, around the off stump, left alone ... Dhoni throws down the stumps at the striker's end and asks the umpire whether Marsh was outside the crease; Marsh had just about got back in time

More support for Hodge. Dhawal Bhandari: "Hodge is a gun. He has an avg of 55 in Tests and has 16,000 first class runs. They should give him a spot in the test team, he can take wickets too. Maybe Hodge instead of White."

SR Watson    28* (31b 3x4 1x6)      MM Patel    1-0-2-0

Pat: "Hodge may have an average of 55, but if you take away one innings, 203* vs South Africa, he has an average of 30. Australia need players under 30, preferably under 25 to step up. If this means that a whole host of players miss out, or only play one test like Chris Rogers, then so be it."

9.1

9.2

Patel to Watson, no run, that nagging line and length continues; again on that off stump line from a length, pushed out to short cover

9.4

Patel to Watson, 2 runs, fuller in length and outside off, steered very fine and Harbhajan does really well to cut off a boundary with a dive at third-man region

9.5

Patel to Watson, SIX, Top shot! Lovely bit of stuff from Watson. It was a length delivery outside off but Watson knifed through the line' up and over the bowler. Flamboyant shot.

10.4

Nehra to Watson, no run, Nehra moves from round the stumps now and hurls it in on the middle stump line, defended on the front foot

10.6

Nehra to Marsh, no run, around the off stump line, Marsh tries to jab it away but misses it

End of over 11 (11 runs) Australia 67/0 (RR: 6.09)

JimDavis will have the last word on Hodge: "Have been a big fan of Hodge all his career, but as Pat points out, his too old now. The time to leave him in the side was when he was scoring that double hundred against South Africa. The fact that they dropped him right after he made that score was the big disgrace. Not picking him now is just common sense."

11.1

Patel to Watson, FOUR, tries the slower one and Watson appears to have been slightly beaten by the lack of the pace but goes through with the shot and scoops it well clear of mid-off

Shahul Marzook: "i feel Australia must take the batting Powerplay right now as both the batsmen are well set and Watson can do the big hitting. Taking it in the slog overs makes no difference as anyways they can score at around 9 runs per over during the slog overs without Powerplay"
