  • England and India are tied at 5-5 in the head-to-head battle in the last ten matches that have had a result. Of the 22 matches England have played in India, they have won 12 and lost 10. The overall head-to-head reads 25-24 in England's favour.

  • The last overseas one-day series that England won - excluding ones in Zimbabwe and Bangladesh - was the Akai-Singer Champions Trophy in Sharjah in December 1997. England have won just seven of their last 20 games of which three victories were against Bangladesh

  • India, on the other hand, are on a hot ODI streak, winning 15 of their last 20 games. In their last three series, India thrashed Sri Lanka 6-1 and drew 2-2 with South Africa at home, and thumped Pakistan 4-1 in Pakistan.

  • India's record in Delhi, though, is not as encouraging. They have lost four of their last five matches here. Their overall win-loss record at the venue is 6-5. England beat India by two runs the last time the sides met at the Feroz Shah Kotla. Nick Knight scored 105 and Andrew Flintoff bashed 52 off 39 balls to spur England to 271. Ashley Giles took 5 for 57 as India were restricted to 269 for 8 in 50 overs.

At the moment, he has 888 runs from 19 innings at an average of 68.30 and a strike rate of 100.45. Viv Richards is currently the fastest to 1000 runs, reaching the landmark in his 21st innings.

He decided that he wanted to be one of those lucky few who did what they love at work. Alas, his prodigious talent was never spotted and he had to reconcile himself to the fact that he would never earn his money playing cricket for his country, state or even district. He jumped at the opportunity to work for ESPNcricinfo and is now confident of mastering the art of office cricket
