V Sehwag    5* (14b 1x4)      JM Anderson    2-1-5-0

5.1

Anderson to Sehwag, FOUR, that's nothing but a push from Sehwag, thrusting bat and pad forward and timing that one, hardly a half-volley, down the ground past mid-off

5.2

Anderson to Sehwag, OUT, Anderson's got Sehwag playing a feeble shot! Pitches back of a length and comes into Sehwag, who stands leaden-footed and tries to play a cramped guide to third man but only chops it back onto his stumps .. Anderson is thrilled, for thats a dangerous man to dismiss early

V Sehwag b Anderson 9 (24m 16b 2x4 0x6) SR: 56.25

R Dravid    0* (4b)      JM Anderson    3-1-9-1
G Gambhir    6* (16b 1x4)      SJ Harmison    3-1-6-0

6.1

Harmison to Gambhir, no run, they are trying to cramp the batsmen for room. This one is on a length and homing in towards the off stump, Gambhir taps it gently to the off side

6.2

Harmison to Gambhir, 2 runs, bit of width on offer this time and Gambhir eases it through covers for couple of runs.

6.3

Harmison to Gambhir, no run, slips down leg side, Gambhir misses the flick and Prior appeals for a catch behind decision. No nick. And Harmison has pulled up in pain. Right knee seems to be the problem area. He winced as he let the ball

6.4

Harmison to Gambhir, 1 run, 134.8 kmph gentle stuff on the middle and leg, tucked towards midwicket for a single. Harmison is still mumbling as he walks back to the crease. Still in pain.

6.5

Harmison to Dravid, no run, around 136 kmph delivery, full and just outside off stump, Dravid takes a big stride out to defend in front of him

6.6

Harmison to Dravid, no run, beaten outside off. It was a length delivery that held its line and Dravid had a stab at it before withdrawing his bat away.

End of over 7 (3 runs) India 19/1
R Dravid    0* (6b)      SJ Harmison    4-1-9-0
G Gambhir    9* (20b 1x4)      JM Anderson    3-1-9-1

Harmison has gone back to the pavilion. He pulled up gingerly after releasing one delivery in the previous over.

7.1

Anderson to Gambhir, no run, 137.5 kmph length delivery angling away from Gambhir who is neither forward or back and just dabs it to the off side

7.3

Anderson to Gambhir, no run, angling away from Gambhir who shoulders arms. India 19 for the loss of Sehwag

7.4

Anderson to Gambhir, no run, switches round the stumps and hurls the full delivery just outside off and Prior collects.

7.5

Anderson to Gambhir, no run, around that off stump again, Gambhir opens the bat face and pushes it towards backward point and then practices playing it in the V

7.6

Anderson to Gambhir, FOUR, lovely strike. A touch short in length, a tad wide outside off and Gambhir shifted his weight to the back foot and punched it on the up and through the point region.

End of over 8 (4 runs) India 23/1

Flintoff to bowl

8.1

Flintoff to Dravid, no run, 139 kmph screamer outside off stump that beats Dravid comprehensively. Dravid pushed inside the line and the ball tailed past the edge

8.2

Flintoff to Dravid, no run, 138.3 kmph lifting delivery around the right shoulder and Dravid quickly sways away from the line of the cherry. Game on.

8.3

Flintoff to Dravid, no run, another short pitched delivery but a touch outside off stump and Dravid has no problems in letting that one go past him

8.4

Flintoff to Dravid, no run, touch too wide to interest Dravid and Prior gathers. Will he bowl the fuller delivery around off and get it to straighten?

8.5

Flintoff to Dravid, (no ball) 1 run, shapes this one back in to Dravid who tucks it to long leg. And the crowd cheer Dravid. They are completely behind the man from Bangalore. They love and respect him here.

8.5

Flintoff to Gambhir, no run, from round the stumps to Gambhir and bowls a ball that straightens around the off stump, Gambhir does well to judge the off stump and the bounce of the ball and shoulders arms

8.6

Flintoff to Gambhir, no run, lands outside off stump on a length and shapes away, left alone

End of over 9 (2 runs) India 25/1
G Gambhir    13* (28b 2x4)      A Flintoff    1-0-2-0
R Dravid    1* (11b)      JM Anderson    4-1-13-1

Anderson stretches before delivering. Three slips and a short midwicket await Dravid.

9.1

Anderson to Dravid, no run, well bowled, that one's full, fast and swinging into Dravid, who pushes forward and sort of stops on the shot, a loose defensive and Anderson runs across

Now a silly mid-on comes in for any loose shot from Dravid

9.2

Anderson to Dravid, 1 run, a smart single, Dravid strides real forward and gently nudges the ball into the cover and gets good support from Gambhir

9.3

Anderson to Gambhir, no run, back of a length and angling away and Gambhir leaves it be

9.4

G Gambhir    15* (32b 2x4)      JM Anderson    5-1-16-1
R Dravid    2* (13b)      A Flintoff    1-0-2-0

A watchful start by India against a revved-up pace attack. And Sehwag's out, mind you.

10.1

Flintoff to Dravid, no run, there's further evidence of Dravid's mindset, poking from the crease at a short ball that he would have left alone most days and getting beaten again

10.2

Flintoff to Dravid, no run, short and Dravid this time correctly leaves it alone for Prior

10.3

Flintoff to Dravid, no run, good bowling from Flintoff, hitting a length and Dravid pushes down the wrong line, beaten once more by the pace and carry of that delivery

10.4

Flintoff to Dravid, no run, slips in a bouncer at 138ks, Dravid arches the back and leaves

10.5

Flintoff to Dravid, no run, gets forward and defends a fuller ball to cover, Flintoff runs across

10.6

Flintoff to Dravid, no run, eases forward and across and pats one back to Flintoff

11.2

Anderson to Gambhir, no run, back of a length and angling away and Gambhir watches it go

11.3

Anderson to Gambhir, no run, uses his crease and comes across to defend one towards point

11.4

Anderson to Gambhir, no run, hits the dime and Gambhir can only defend to the off side ... he's bowled well today, Anderson, mixing his pace and keeping it up there in a channel to Gambhir

11.5

Anderson to Gambhir, no run, a tad straighter this time and Gambhir eases it back to Anderson

11.6

Anderson to Gambhir, no run, gets room and crunches a pleasing back-foot drive but point intercepts

End of over 12 (maiden) India 28/1
G Gambhir    15* (38b 2x4)      JM Anderson    6-2-16-1
R Dravid    2* (19b)      A Flintoff    2-1-2-0

Just about 10 minutes till tea. Flintoff continues. Dravid, the architect of India's most memorable Test victories, has had some mediocre numbers recently. There have been some worrying lapses of concentration. A class player, though. He's got a a good batting track to ease back some form.

12.1

Flintoff to Dravid, no run, short of a length outside off stump and he shoulders arms

12.2

Flintoff to Dravid, no run, change of pace, pitches in line and Dravid taps it back to Flintoff

12.3

Flintoff to Dravid, no run, much wider, 143.5ks, and Dravid shoulders arms easily

12.4

Flintoff to Dravid, 1 run, steals a single now, getting to the pitch of this one and gently easing it into the covers, calling Gambhir eagerly across for the sharp run

12.5

Flintoff to Gambhir, no run, lands outside off stump, wide, and so Gambhir allows it pass

12.6

Flintoff to Gambhir, 1 bye, oh thats close to off stump, Gambhir leaves one that pitches and comes back in very sharply, near the top of off, and then behind the stumps Prior fumbles the take

End of over 13 (2 runs) India 30/1
G Gambhir    15* (40b 2x4)      A Flintoff    3-1-3-0
R Dravid    3* (23b)      JM Anderson    6-2-16-1

First sight of the offspinner Graeme Swann in Test cricket. He's keeping his shades on. Spin comes into action on the verge of stumps, and interestingly Swann ahead of Panesar.

13.1

Swann to Gambhir, FOUR, not a good start, short and wide and Gambhir punches past point

13.2

Swann to Gambhir, no run, and an exciting appeal second ball! Swann flights it down leg stump, the ball turns back in from outside leg stump, Gambhir shapes to dad it away and the ball flies to a tumbling short leg, they all break out into appeal but Daryl Harper says no bat on that, mate

13.3

Swann to Gambhir, OUT, Swann's struck in his first over in Tests! Gambhir is the man to go, opting to pad away a delivery tossed up full just outside off stump, he doesn't get a massive stride forward and the ball turns back to hit him, England ask the question very confidently and now Harper agrees

G Gambhir lbw b Swann 19 (65m 43b 3x4 0x6) SR: 44.18

In comes Sachin Tendulkar, at arguably his favorite venue. India trail by 282. Swann, shades on, is confident after striking with this third ball.

13.4

Swann to Tendulkar, 2 runs, off the mark with a couple, pushed off the front foot past cover

That ball to Gambhir pitches full and turned. Replays show it would have just hit off stump. A marginal call. Harper though it would have hit.

13.5

Swann to Tendulkar, 1 run, spins down leg stump and he turns it towards midwicket

13.6

Swann to Dravid, OUT, what an over! This one pitches just outside off stump and turns in, Dravid pushes down the wrong line and misses to get struck on the front pad, Swann and England believe they've got their man and Swann goes red-faced in appeal before Harper slowly raises the finger

R Dravid lbw b Swann 3 (44m 24b 0x4 0x6) SR: 12.50

2.10pm Well, well, well, what a last over. . Amazing scenes for England, and Chennai has gone completely silent. Pietersen gave the ball to Swann for one over before tea, and wouldn't have believed this was possible. Two wickets in six balls. Gambhir will think he was unfortunate to be given out, as his was a marginal call that could have gone either ways. Dravid was unable to break a miserable rut, looking to defend an unassuming delivery that turned and rapped the pad. It appeared Dravid was struck outside the line. A tough call you can say.

Not a few week after Australia's Jason Krejza burst onto the Test scene with 12 wickets on debut, including eight in the first innings, Swann has stunned India. Is that a Swann song?

Let me catch my breath and get a cup of coffee. Back shortly for the final session. Understandably, a lot of passionate emails coming in. Do feel free to vent and share thought with other fans on our Facebook page.

2.30pm Welcome back. A fascinating session beckons. VVS Laxman joins Tendulkar. Let me address the Dravid dismissal again. Pietersen brings back Harmison, back on the field after a minor injury scare.

18.1

Harmison to Tendulkar, no run, hello there? Tendulkar loses sight of a shortish delivery and ducks into it, the ball was not a bouncer by any means and thuds into his left shoulder, Tendulkar was down on his knees almost, a la the controversial time McGrath had him lbw in Australia, this time there is no appeal from England, rightly so

Pietersen calls back Swann. Interestingly, the last two bowlers to take two wickets in their first over on Test debut are both Englishmen. Richard Johnson dismissed Mark Vermeulen and Stuart Carlisle off successive balls at Chester-le-street in 2003. Both dismissals were lbw on that occasion as well.

Doesn't augur well then for Swann. Ian Botham, in a Question of Sport the following year, was asked which bowler had taken all 10 the previous summer and when he had to be told the answer, he replied: "Who's Richard Johnson?"

By the way, Swann's band back in England is called Dr Comfort and the Lurid Revelations. Okay then.

You can put that wicket down to the hard work done by Flintoff. He repeatedly worked Yuvraj with an outside-the-off-stump line from around the stumps, peppered in some words of advice after a few deliveries, and now Yuvraj perishes to a new bowler who pitched the ball across him from over the stumps. Should be the final over of the day. Just about two minutes to go. Flintoff to bowl.

44.1

Flintoff to Dhoni, no run, short into the body, Dhoni hops across and defends off his chest

"The situation was precarious when Yuvraj Singh entered, and it demanded a true Test player to graft and battle his way through to guide India to safer waters. But yet again, Yuvraj Singh fails when it counts. He's wasted the perfect opportunity to cement his place in the side. Shame, the boy's got tremendous talent," says Rohan. "So who's missing Dada now?" asks Mono.

Flintoff to Dhoni, no run, steams in and drops it short, and Dhoni jumps across and takes the ball flush on the chest, another probing over and that is the end of the day

England's day. They crossed 300 thanks to a dour nightwatchman's innings from James Anderson and a half-century from Matt Prior in his comeback innings. The bowlers then took six Indian wickets to put England in charge of this Test.

There were successful and tense spells of fast bowling from James Anderson and Andrew Flintoff as India crashed to 137 for 6, but it was that stunning first over in Test cricket from Graeme Swann, just before tea, that will hog the headlines. Swann removed Gautam Gambhir and Rahul Dravid and India were stunned.

Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman put on 61, but their departure in consecutive overs to Monty Panesar and Flintoff hurt India plenty. To ice off the cake, Steve Harmison dismissed Yuvraj Singh just before stumps.

Hope that sums up in brief what happened today. It was an enthralling day's cricket and I hope you all enjoyed our coverage. Do join Binoy George and me for day three.

End of over 45 (6 runs) India 155/6
MS Dhoni    24* (35b 3x4)      A Flintoff    12-2-26-1
Harbhajan Singh    13* (6b 3x4)      SJ Harmison    8-1-29-1

9.15am Its day three in Chennai and this is Jamie Alter to kick off things. Binoy George will be in shortly to handle the scoring responsibilities. A very good morning to all of you, wherever you may be. Early risers in England, hope its not too freezing cold.

India will resume on 155 for 6 with Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Harbhajan Singh at the crease. England's lead is 161. Harbhajan was batting in the nets earlier today. India will need runs from him. He did bat well against Australia recently. England will look to their fast bowlers to try and unsettle Harbhajan and get into the tail. After the exhilarating three sessions we had yesterday, this one's also shaping up into something awesome.

We've tried to put together the best round-up of yesterday's action, a lot of focused on the debutant Graeme Swann, in the Surfer. There's also a piece on 'The Wall' coming down.
